Car amost ran over me, struck another vehicle. Was placed in park and jumped out. Did a moderate amt of damage to the other vehicle. I drove immediately to the dealership. They told me nothing was wrong and it was not the car it was me the driver. Told me the Jeep passed inspection and that I just thought I put it in park. This also happened on 7/1/01 again, however the Jeep was stopped before striking another vehicle. All of this infromation can be verified by a police report and insurance information. This caused a moderate amt of damage. If someone was behind the car, it could have crushed them. I had minor scrapes from trying to get back in vehicle and stop it to avoid a collision. This has cost me an increase in insurance premiums and also a wreck on my record. I have never had any type of accident. This was a very scary incident. However, the dealership convinced me it was operator error. However, after this happened again last week, I am not so sure. Thank you for your time.
On July 4, 2000, our 1999 Jeep Cherokee jumped from park into drive and covered approx. 40 feet before plummeting into a hole being dug for the foundation of our new home with our then 15-mo. Son inside. The Jeep flipped onto its roof trapping our son (who had fallen asleep inside) upside down within inches of more than a foot of water that had collected at the bottom. Fortunately we were able to rescue our son who was uninjured. The Jeep was in park with the ac on full and was stationary for more than 15 minutes on level ground before jumping into drive. I have pictures of the Jeep at the scene and the conditions prior to the accident, as well as a police report. I would like to help make sure no one ever has to experience something so horrifying (and potentially fatal) again.

Car was put into parking spot in front of apt building. Park setting of auto transmission was engaged. Vehicle was left running. Parking brake was not engaged. Driver began to exit vehicle noticed vehicle was moving forward. Driver got back into drivers seat to attempt to stop vehicle. This parking spot has only a small curb in front of parking spot. Beyond the curb is a steep bank. Car proceeded over curb and as soon as front wheels went over curb car traveled down embankment, struck 2 vehicles and came to rest. I noticed 2 1998 Jeep Cherokees have been reported to odi for same problem. Vehicle had some visible damage but may be totalled for damage to frame.

My wife parked our 2000 Jeep grand Cherokee in our driveway on 6-29-01 after arriving from a short trip to the stores with my two kids and mother-in-law. My wife stopped the car about 1-2 ft in front of the garage door, placed the car in "park" and removed her foot from the brake. The car then accelerated unexpectedly and catapulted them through our garage door and into our other parked car which was inside our one-car garage. My wife had complained about 1 1/2 months earlier about the Jeep surging forward after it being placed in "park" and the foot being removed from the brake. I shrugged it off believing that maybe my wife had her foot on the accelerator and the car in "drive". I should have believed her then because after this accident I'm convinced it wasn't my wife's fault. The Jeep is not safe! my wife is a mature, responsible and healty 38 year old dentist who has never been in an accident during her 20+ years of driving. Please take a serious look at this complaint since the dealer denies any problems with the car and only wants to fix it and give it back to us. We do not want the car back, even after allstate pays for the repairs nor do we think the dealer should be able to sell the car to another unsuspecting buyer. Please advice. Thank you.

The Jeep was in park with the keys out of the ignition and my son who is five years of age accidently knocked the car out of park. It went into neutral and went down the driveway across the street and up in to my neighbor's yard and came back down the yard and was physically stopped by a neighbor before it hit our rural mailbox. Ther were approximately 20 children playing n the cul-DE-sac. This all happened with my five year old son inside the vehicle. To repeat the keys were not in the vehicle, yet it could still be manuvered into gear accidently by a five year old. It was a miracle that no one was injured or killed due to the activity level of our street at the time.
