I own a 2019 Jeep Cherokee latitude, VIN [xxx] ], with approximately 77,000 miles. The vehicle’s 4wd transmission/power transfer unit (ptu) has failed and requires replacement. This defect causes loss of 4wd function, reduced drivability, and presents a huge potential safety hazard. The symptoms are identical to those described in NHTSA recall 25v-011 for 2017–2019 Jeep Cherokees with ptu snap-ring failures, which can result in loss of motive power and rollaway risk. Although my VIN is not currently included, the year, make, model, and defect match the recall population exactly. This failure has significantly devalued my vehicle and created an unsafe condition. I am requesting investigation into why my VIN is excluded and for the recall to be expanded to cover affected vehicles like mine. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

The power transfer unit failed, needing repair. It is available for inspection upon request. My safety, and other's safety on the road, was put at risk because now the power can shut off while driving. The problem has been confirmed by the dealer, as we took it in when a warning light appeared. They confirmed it was a power transfer unit failure. They first appeared about a month ago, and today's date is 9/19/25.

Rear differential transfer case on passenger side eroding. O-ring partially exposed.
Vehicle has a "4wd svc" light on. I took it to the Jeep service center to get it diagnosed and it turns out the vehicle will need a ptu (power transfer unit). I was told that it is not covered under their 01c recall and that I would have to pay for the replacement which is almost $4000. I find it unfair since the vehicle is having the same symptoms stated in that recall and there is a class action lawsuit of this ptu failing since it is a very known issue. This vehicle is very unsafe to drive because it could just shut down on me randomly while driving. This will be the second time this vehicle will need the ptu replaced and I already paid them $400 for diagnosis.
The contact owns a 2017 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while his son was reversing out of a driveway, the vehicle shuddered and lost power with the check engine warning light illuminated, and the "service 4wd" message was displayed on instrument panel. The vehicle entered limp mode and failed to accelerate above 20 mph. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic which showed a defect with the ptu. The contact was notified of the failure and upon investigation it was discovered that the vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign number: 25v011000(power train). The vehicle was then taken to a dealer where the contact was informed that parts for the recall repair were not yet available. The contact was then informed by the dealer that the vehicle could be repaired out of pocket; however, the contact denied the offer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 91,000.

The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the “service 4wd” warning light was illuminated. In addition, the “service 4wd” warning light was flashing on and off. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with a power transfer unit failure. The contact was informed that the power transfer unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was advised to take the vehicle to the dealer for assistance. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with a power transfer unit failure. The contact was informed that because the connection point was worn, the power transfer unit needed to be replaced. The contact referenced an unknown recall which had a similar failure description; however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 102,000.

Am concerned about theses vehicles even being on the roadways with no resolution to the safety recall being resolved. Reported in Jan 2025, no resolution yet. For 8 months? "parts are not available". It appears by documentation that if you are in the states you can get a dealer to check via software to detect and monitor for excessive wear within a ptu. If ptu failure is confirmed by software, fca us will replace the ptu for all impacted customers experiencing messaging related to the defect to replace the ptu. Warranty extension terms and unlimited years/unlimited mileage. Why can we not check the vehicle out at a canadian dealer to confirm what we are potentially driving down our busy highways?.
This Jeep suddenly started smoking while driving. Driver immediately pulled over and noticed oil all over on ground. Towed to mechanic and the transfer case has a large crack and the rear differential is bad. Repairs exceeding $4000. Also, on a regular basis the car loses power while driving. Driver has to pull over and restart car. This has not been fixed yet. Not sure what it is. Both issues are known issues for Jeep Cherokees and also this year Jeep. Yet there is no recall for this VIN number. The costs for fixing this and the dangers are unacceptable. Scared about the power loss and not sure what my mechanic will find. This car should be included in the recalls for both issues. I am super disappointed in Jeep. I filed a report with Jeep cares and will also be contacting the attorney general and a consumer attorney. These issues need to be included in the existing recalls for this VIN number. Also, mechanic had to get a refurbished transfer case because there is a backlog of new transfer cases. Clearly this is a big issue.
The rear differential is suffering from corrosion, which caused a slight leak. If it fails, the car will suddenly cease operation, which could result in a collision. The part was inspected by the dealer, and said it could take up to 3 months to get a replacement. As of yet, no warning lights are active.
Less then 120000 miles and rear differential unit had to be replaced, and now roughly 158000 miles and now front differential unit has to be replaced.
Our vehicle started displaying a service 4x4 error and we no longer had the ability to shift into all wheel/four wheel drive. Looking up the VIN, it is not part of the NHTSA campaign 25vo11 (I think that's correct). In trying to understand the problem, I found many outside of the current recall are having issues with the ptu. This is what a local Jeep dealership told me the problem was. I also have seen several state the actuator was the issue and not the ptu itself. I would like to file this as a complaint and hope that the recall is expanded to cover other Cherokee models outside of the current recall. Thank you for your time.
Power transfer unit - my power transfer unit has failed. This appears to be a manufacturing defect identical to those under the recall provisions. For some reason, my VIN # is not included.
Since late last year we have experienced intermittent shift slippage when going from just starting out to automatically shifting to next gear. This has happened many times. We never knew about any recall until we took vehicle to dealer ( manahawkin Jeep ) for another issue with the oil filter housing leaking. The vehicle jerks forward and is not a smooth shift. The problem has not been inspected by the manufacturer or anyone else except the owner. No warnings or messages about issue.
This vehicle had multiple reprograms for transmission control module and still had same issue I have only had the vehicle 1 year and driven it 7k and I take. It to jim browne Jeep dealership they said they transmission control module needs replacement the Jeep when I brake jumps forward and speeds up its unpredictable and unsafe it also does not shift into gear it slips and I did a search and see. This has been a reoccurring issue . As well as my back up camera appears while I am driving and parked ,or screen just says Jeep or goes blue unable to change dash supply control at all ,this vehicle is a lemon and we were not told of any of these issues.
The "service 4wd" light came on in my 2017 Jeep Cherokee. The nearest dealership is 56 miles away. I took the vehicle to my mechanic, who is only 7 miles away. On the way to the mechanic, the "service shifter" warning light came on and all the lights on my shifter lit up. Once at the mechanic, my vehicle became stuck in 4wd low and cannot be shifted out of 4wd low. My mechanic was able to confirm that the power transfer unit had failed. When my mechanic contacted the dealership to order a replacement part, he was laughed at and told that the part was on nationwide backorder with no date available as to when the part would be in stock. This is unacceptable because now I am without a vehicle. I cannot afford to rent a vehicle until this part is available. When is the manufacturer going to be held accountable for the faulty ptu unit?.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle failed to shift into gear properly with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact also stated that the vehicle jerked while the accelerator was depressed, and the vehicle lunged forward while depressing the brake pedal. The contact also stated that the windshield wipers were inoperable and failed to function while activating the windshield wipers. The contact also stated that the rearview camera inadvertently activated while driving at undisclosed speeds, and the instrument panel failed to function properly. The vehicle was taken to the dealer was where it was diagnosed and determined that the transmission control module and windshield wiper motor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 46,000.
My vehicle was driving fine and I pulled up to a stop light. When I stepped on gas to drive after the light switched, the car would not move and made a loud noise. The brake automatically kicked in and car would not move. This could have been very dangerous as someone could have slammed into the back of my car which could have caused serious damage to me or my children. There was absolutely no warning of anything wrong with my car. I had to have my vehicle towed to a garage. The ptu in my Jeep went with absolutely no warning. This part is on back order apparently because there are so many issues with this part on Jeeps. Prior year Jeeps have this item as a recall which leads me to believe that this is a Jeep problem that should have been fixed already. So now I am without my vehicle for a month.

The contact stated that the dealer had been contacted several times; however, the contact was informed that parts were still not available. The contact was concerned about the failure occurring while driving the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the contact’s concern. The contact had not experienced a failure.

There has been a safety recall issued since January 16, 2025. Today's date is August 11, 2025. To this date there is still no remedy available. I own two Jeeps with this same recall as part of my business. I am losing close to $3,000 in revenue per month between the two. I'm quickly approaching lost revenue of $21k. Is there a time requirement for manufacturers to address their safety recalls? seven months is far too long. Thank you.
A light appeared on the dash that said awd failure. After 2 weeks of being at the dealership, I was told it was a complete ptu failure. Other vins have been recalled but not mine. This was after I had already taken the car because it just stopped while driving and wouldn’t start. I was told then it was the starter needed to be replaced. I am just happy it wasn’t my [xxx] that was driving. I believe it was the ptu the whole time. The car also will not start after stopping at a stop light unless I turn the automatic setting off. Dealership says ptu is on back order with eta of 45-60 days. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Oil pressure light came on the same day the engine sees on freeway.
When taking off out of my driveway the car hesitated to send power from the engine to the wheels resulting in a delayed start. Unknown which component caused the issue but based on my previous 2014 trailhawks ptu 2 x failure it appears to be the suspect. This placed my me and my family at a risk of a side collision as vehicles drive down our road at high speeds. If we cannot pull out in time, a collision is likely to occur causing serious injury or death. Vehicle I available for inspection upon request but has not been inspected by a dealer, independent shop, of police for this problem and there were no indicator lights that came on.
The contact owns a 2017 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at 75 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. The check engine and an unknown warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle then decelerated to 64 mph, and the transmission sputtered. The vehicle was taken to o’reilly’s auto parts and was diagnosed and dtc: p0303 (misfire in cylinder #3); was retrieved. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 128,941.
The power transfer unit (ptu) failed, which is part of recall 01c. A warning light came on, which prompted me to bring the vehicle to the dealership. The dealership inspected the vehicle, confirmed the ptu had failed, and stated it is unsafe to drive. They also confirmed there is no remedy or replacement part available at this time. Because of this, the vehicle cannot be safely operated and I have been left without transportation.
Ptu failure at 65,000 miles. Unknown timeline for the replacement part.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 25v011000(power train); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. An unknown dealer was contacted and confirmed that the recall parts were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 25v011000 (power train); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle jerked abnormally. The local dealer was contacted. I was at a red light, the first in line, and when the light turned green, I pressed the gas, and heard a horrible thud(thinking someone hit me because my car rattled) and then the car would not move forward. Each time I pressed the gas, nothing moved. I put it into park and back to drive, nothing. I put it in reverse and nothing. I put it in manual, and nothing. I even switched to sand, snow, etc, and nothing. Every time I revved the motor it did not move. It remained on, and revved the engine, but would not move. I have never had any signals (sounds, emergency lights, etc) come on in the four years I've had this vehicle. It did have a recall on it and supposedly was repaired the day I purchased the vehicle. I had it repaired by the same place it was purchased (and where the recall was fixed) and the head service guy told me I needed to contact mopar to let them know of this and they denied anything. . My 2019 Jeep with (at the time of this) had only 96964 miles on it should not have had this occur! if I'd have been on the express way (instead of a very busy intersection at rush hour) this would've been catastrophic for me and others!.
On multiple occasions when driving and trying to increase speed (such as after pulling out of my driveway) the car makes a sudden jerking almost or like something "misses" and it slows down and takes a couple seconds to regain again. On the most recent occasion, the engine light then came on and wouldn't go off. The code when tested, said it had to do with the transmission.
The svc 4wd light came on, it coded to the ptu. There is a recall on 2017 Jeeps but being told mine is not affected which I don't believe is correct.
A component (power transfer unit (ptu)) in my 2018 Jeep Cherokee latitude has failed but my VIN is not included. The power transfer unit has failed. This appears to be a manufacturing defect identical to those listed under the current 2017-2019 Jeep Cherokee ptu recall. I am requesting immediate inclusion and repair under the recall provisions.
Ptu unit has went out. 4wd light on shows needs service. Currently with dealership and told ptu needs replaced, but told there's only 112 available in the nation with over 1200 orders for one currently. It looks that this has been an ongoing problem with Jeep Cherokees with under 100,000 miles. Mine only has 88. 000. Other year models have been recalled in fact up to Feb. 2019 for manufactured Cherokees. I missed it by a year. With this increasing problem, it sure looks as though they should recall since the odds are becoming greater for failure and people are out thousands of dollars and still making payments on it in this economy for not being able to have confidence in a vehicle and company. Thank you for your attention and action!.
Transfer case failure. Transfer case cracked and created hole no warning or indication.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at 70 mph, the vehicle lost motive power with the 4 by 4 malfunction warning message displayed. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 25v011000(power train); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the power transfer unit had failed and needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that the remedy parts were not yet available. The dealer also informed that the remedy part could be ordered by the dealer under the warranty of the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
