1 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 04/10/2021

The first complaint is when the car was overheating and it needed a new transmission which was covered under the power train warranty. The second was when the car would have difficulty accelerating, and the main incident was when I was on the freeway (westbound 80 in hercules, CA) and the car would not accelerate beyond 60 mph so I needed to exit and when I was able to safely park the car, it died on me and I had to have it towed to the dealership, costing me over $2500 in repair regardless of the fix a couple years ago. This most recent incident occurred when at a stop light (antioch, CA)the car started shaking about to the die and the screen read must place car in park. after placing the car in park the car started up again, but at every stop the car would shake. Most recently (concord, CA) an alert came on the screen service shifter. after doing my research I was informed that my car may have been a part of a recall affecting the engagement of the gears. Bringing it to the dealership I was told it was not part of the recall, but am still concerned about the vehicle shifting gears, or lack thereof. I have documentation of the repairs and complaints, but do not have access to them right now. If needed I can provide them.

2 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2017 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/25/2020

While driving the service shifter lighter appears on dash and shifter position lights all light randomly and has been becoming more frequent. They turn off once I stop, turn the car off, and restart the car. I have read models previously have been recalled for this issue but not 2017 which appears to have the same issues. Also I've had to change my spark plugs at about every 50,000 miles. I replaced them once already and once again I am having the same issue the check engine light is on and at times the car is shaking from the misfiring. The check engine light remains on at a times. The check engine light flashes and the car is shaking the power and acceleration are significantly reduced when the spark plugs are actively misfiring. This only occurs with accelerating and pressing on gas pedal and happens constantly while driving. I've never had to replace spark plugs this often they usually last atleast 100,000 miles. There is a problem when they barely last for half that and require replacement atleast 2 times before they should go bad. These seem to be a common issue but when you ask the dealer they act clueless and something needs to be done. These are costly problems that should not be occurring or occurring this frequently. Please investigate.

3 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2018 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 07/03/2020

When my vehicle accelerates the transmission seems to be slipping or not fully engaging. The rpms will spike to about 4,000 before the transmission will shift, and when it shifts the whole vehicle will shudder like it's been hit by a sledgehammer wielded by thor himself. To be able to continue driving my vehicle I have to slowly accelerate and keep the vehicle under 3,000 rpms. This only seems to be a problem on a highway or roadway that is 55mph or higher.

4 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2017 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 06/08/2020

For over a month now ive received"service shifter" message. Car shakes badly and loses power as if its going to shut off. Three different times it did shut off and struggled to re-crank! service shifter message goes away after turning the Jeep off & back on. Very unsafe when driving on the highway (or anywhere)!!! purchased brand new and is up to date on oil changes, etc. Jeep also burns more oil than it should.

5 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2017 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 06/03/2020

Car revs up like it shifted into neutral while traveling 65 mph, loss of power, no acceleration. I was on highway and was able to make the shoulder safely. Several error messages popped up on the screen, place into park and restart, etc. . Did not catch them all. Put into park, shut off and restarted. Regained power but the car stutters and shakes at about 25 mph, seems like it is missing out while idling. This has occurred several times the past month. At first turning the car off and restart would run fine for several days. Until yesterday, now it is stuttering while driving on local streets. The service four wheel drive is on. The service engine light comes while driving but does not stay on once put into park.

6 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 07/03/2019

Bought the car about 6 months ago started having issues with transmission shifting and took it in and they told me all it needed was a software update and still to this day I have even more issues car don't start at time and then when it does check engine light turns on and when I try to put it on drive I big a big club I noise and you can really feel the car shake from the shift and and says service transmission and then all of a sudden all the service light come of by far the worse car I have ever bought!! and tell this day I still have those issues.

7 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2015 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/11/2019

When I am driving on the street I always feel a jerking when I accelerate after braking. While driving on the highway or expressway when I accelerate I notice a jerk and when I decelerate my car shakes and vibrates.

8 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2015 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 04/02/2019

When slowing down between 25-35mph, the transmission clunks violently and the entire car shakes and it is very loud. I have had it to the dealer twice; first time they said it needed a software update which they supposedly did, but nothing changed. I had it in again and they said there was nothing wrong with the transmission, that it is normal, and to just drive it so the computer can learn my driving habits. What??? this is my fourth Jeep and I've never had problems like this. I bought it used and have only had it a month and feel I'm stuck with a lemon.

9 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2015 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 07/26/2018

Today being 7/26/2018. Today my vehicle just shut down while coming to a stop sign in the morning, and again in the afternoon when making a u-turn. And for about 2 weeks before, a few times I felt the engine attempt to shut off when coming to stop signs and lights, which the vehicle shaking would take place and the motor sounded like it was going to die. In the case of transmission, for the past month in random moments while stopped at an incline or turning onto an incline street, the gears would delay shifting into the next gear, and it would sound like rpm was reaching higher than normal rotations before actually shifting into the next gear, the car jerking from the catch. All events occurred while vehicle was in motion, on streets, both when turning or stopping, or incline climb involved.

10 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2017 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/01/2018

While driving the service shifter lighter appears on dash and shifter position lights all light randomly and has been becoming more frequent. 11 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2015 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/14/2017

Service transmission came on after I purchased this car 3 days ago with 47k miles. As I slowed to a stop coming off the highway the car vibrated violently repeatedly and then cut off. It took 3 tries to finally turn the vehicle on and it continued to have the same issue. At one point I was having to throw the car in neutral to get it to stop jerking as I decelerated. That created a whole other problem because I then when I shifted back into drive I had no acceleration control. I had to roll off the road, throw it into park, kill the engine, and restart the car to get back control of the accelerator. Very scary and unsafe!.

12 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2016 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 06/09/2017

This Jeep has been nothing but problems. When we were in an accident I didn't think that it could be due to the lack of acceleration and poor transmission operation. As the last 2 years have gone since the accident, it is obvious that the accident was a clear result to the powertrain failing. When pressing on the accelerator the vehicle will hesitate or cough before it moves. Once it does the rpms shoot to high. When driving in traffic the car shakes as it stays in gear to long, or doesn't shift to the proper gear at the proper time making the ride very whip lash like. Aside from that the vehicle burns oil so fast I change the oil every 2000 miles. The vehicle currently has 39k miles and I can not wait to get rid of this car. It is unsafe and a true example why I never liked Jeep/Chrysler in the first place. I'll never buy another mopar brand again.

13 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/14/2017

I had it in to fix a recall on the transmission, a few months later I started it and put it into reverse, I pressed the accelerator and had zero engine power, I put it back into park and the engine started running extremely ruff shaking the entire car, I turned the car off immediately, waited a few moments and restarted again only to have the same issue plus the transmission went into what I would call self destruct mode, it clunked and growled it was the worst sound ever. I took the Jeep to my local Jeep dealer and they reflashed the transmission, they told me if it happens again they'll drop in a new transmission, it still doesn't shift right and I'm worried I'll end up needing a new transmission after my power train warranty expires, there was clearly damage done to the transmission when it went into self destruct mode and I think the trans should have been replaced at that time, also the Jeep goes into neutral by itself while driving down the road so this is also a safety issue, I don't feel safe driving this car and or having passengers in it.

14 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2015 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/08/2017

Transmission is very jerky when shifting, often fails to shift into higher gears without long pauses. Vehicle seems to vibrate in lower gears.

15 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/28/2016

Vehicle has always had a lurching forward motion when it goes into gear from a stopped position. We bought it in 2015 with 14000 miles on it. In early October husband was out of town with the car and the service engine light came on. Took it to dealership and was told it needed an update to the computer system that runs the engine area. Drove for one evening and left town for a week. First time car was driven after that week vehicle service engine light was on again. Upon backing out of the driveway it lurched forward and ran into the curb. Drove vehicle home and took to the local Jeep dealership immediately. Kep overnight before they said it needed a new transmission. They kept vehicle for a week and we picked it up on a Wednesday afternoon. By Thursday evening every time we take off the car shakes and lurches getting into gear. Have an appointment to take back to the dealership on Monday.

16 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2015 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/05/2016

The transmission is not working when the vehicle is shifted into drive, reverse, no power sent to the wheels only revs up. The vehicle also makes a grinding noise when the vehicle is placed into park and check engine light is on. An indicator states on the dash states get transmission serviced. Stalled out on my way home from work had to push it about a block. Calling the dealer today.

17 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2015 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/20/2016

Nine speed automatic transmission. This is a safety issue. The transmission in the lower range of gears searches for the proper speed gear and when it finds one, it jumps into gear causing the vehicle to lurch and at times causes the vehicle to over accelerate. At higher speeds, the transmission will drop into a gear with a heavy thump which shakes the whole vehicle. The really serious problem is with the transmission when using cruise control. Just last week, I had the cruise control set at 55 mph and when on a downhill portion of roadway, the transmission suddenly went into a higher gear and the vehicle began a rapid acceleration. Before I could hit the brake to disengage the cruise control, the vehicle was traveling at well over 60mph. I have had the vehicle in four times to the dealer and they only do computer updates and can find nothing wrong with the transmission. When I call Jeep to complain, they send me back to the same dealer and nothing gets done. I think that this is a great safety issue and I feel that this vehicle will get me killed. I am a retired police officer who has driven hundreds of thousands of miles in a wide variety of vehicles having automatic transmissions and this is by far and away the worst one I have even used. Final note, the computer updates installed by the dealer has not improved the transmission and has decreased my overall gas mileage by 2 mpg. Kind of throws off the epa estimates, doesn't it.

18 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/03/2016

Transmission skips gears and sometimes is extremely slow to start getting the car going (acceleration) (every road including when you are stationary. The body of the car continuously shakes if you are driving on a smooth road (like you can hear the body of the car <shell of the car> (highway, city, straight and turning) when backing up, the car will break immediatley if there is nothing in the way causing a serious safety hazard. (backing up, or driving in the city it will break and I can't override the system making it very easy for someone to rear end you) this vehicle needs to be deemed unsafe to drive and recalled.

19 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/13/2016

Driving at low speeds on a city street, the car started to shake and buck and stopped without warning. I got a message readout that said transmission failure. Then it said to start the car in park? it took several tries, but I had cars in back of me honking and had to move it. Finally it started but continues to shake and kept turning off. I managed to get it into a parking lot so it was safe. The dealer says it is some part in the transmission and they are repairing it. I am too scared to drive it again. I commute on a major highway at high speeds. If it happens again, I will probably be killed.

20 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/01/2016

Tl-the contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 1-2 mph, the check transmission and parking brake warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle started to shudder. Additionally, while moving from a stop, the transmission experienced hard shifts between 1st and 2nd gear. The vehicle was taken to don miller Dodge Chrysler Jeep ram fiat, 5802 odana rd, madison, WI 53719, (608) 270-5000, to be diagnosed. The mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure or retrieve a fault code. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 65000. Ah.

21 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2015 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 04/10/2016

My Cherokee has never driven 100% since the first day I got it. It hesitates and jerks forward when initially accelerating, jerks to a stop or when parking and shakes when initially starting the car and vibrates. Over the last 6 months the car has completely died on me twice, the second time being just this morning. It is a brand new car; there is no reasonable explanation as to why this is happening other than the new 9 speed transmissions that Chrysler produced are insufficient and have not been thoroughly tested before putting consumers behind the wheel. The cars battery light flashed on my dashboard and then the car slowed to a stop and completely cut off. The dash told me to put my car in park and then shift back to drive but I couldn't do anything. There is no way the battery or engine is an issue so I have no idea what is causing this problem other than a faulty computer in the car. I have had the software updated and flashed and yet here we are again having the same problem that seems to puzzle the service department. They have given me a laundry list of bologna reasonings as to why the car drives the way it does and why this and that are happening but yet no fix for them. It is absolutely insane to me that because there have been no significant injuries or deaths due to these transmission issues that no recall or anything has been released. I have done my fair share of research on transmission issues in the 2015 Cherokees and have sadly found 100's of complaints from consumers yet still no solid fix or answer to these peoples problems. How Chrysler is getting away with this blows my mind. These cars are virtually death traps just waiting to happen. I don't feel safe driving this car anymore and something needs to be done.

22 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/13/2016

First - vehicle would shift into park and I could not turn it off. When shifting into reverse, the car would not move. I had to have it towed into the dealer. Second - while driving on the expressway, the vehicle gave 5-6 beeps and information panel said, "restart vehicle and service transmission. " the car stopped moving forward when pressing the gas. Shifting into park (to restart the vehicle) the car vibrated and jumped. Restarted the vehicle, the transmission light was on, message says service transmission, traction control light on, and the d(rive) light was blinking. Third - all of the above again, except everyone on the expressway was moving at 65-70 miles per hour, and my car stopped in the third lane. This seems to happen when the vehicle is moving and it is getting very dangerous for me and other drivers.

23 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/27/2015

Last Thursday the vehicle lost all power after applying brakes going down a hill, when attempting to start it up again, it remained in the run position but was not functional, engine sounded like a car grinding. Pressing the starter did nothing, the vehicle would not turn off, but remained in the run position but with an abnormal sound and no ability to drive it. I just kept trying to put it in different gears, give it gas and finally the engine engaged and it was driven back up the hill to my home. It was driven to Jeep service the next day. They could not reproduce the problem and the "diagnostics" did not reveal a problem. The same thing happened today and it took me about 10 minutes of pushing starter button, trying different gears and giving it gas to get it functional again. This vehicle has been into Jeep at least 3 times for transmission problems. One time the vehicle was worse after going in, and 2 of the times it seemed better initially but was worse again within several weeks.

24 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2015 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/20/2015

Thank you!! the first incident occurred at 304 miles. Check engine light came on and the car started shaking and could not accelerate. Check engine light started flashing and called the dealership immediately. Had the truck towed in and they advised at first that the upper head of the engine blew, after speaking with my customer resolution rep (case number: 26750843) the dealership called me again and advised it was just a bad spark plug and they fixed it. The second incident occurred about a week after this service I took a 200 mile trip to PA to visit family and on the way back from this trip the check engine light came on again. I checked the oil levels and there was nothing on the measuring stick. Had to car towed again and this time bayside Chrysler advised the o-ring went on the car and that it was replaced/fixed. After the o-ring service the car is still loosing oil but I can't smell is burning and there is nothing under the car after leaving a parking spot. However, when the car first starts blue smoke comes out of the exhaust and the engine knocks/tics a bit upon starting but that stops after the oil hits the engine I guess. On 8/5/2015 I started the car after work and the check engine light came on and flashing again and the car began shaking. It was towed to the dealership again this morning for service. The above covers the engine issues. Two weeks ago at a stop sign I stepped on the gas but the engine just reeved for a few seconds followed by the transmission engaging. Since then the transmission has not been shifting normally. The transmission has not failed yet but it appears it's on its way. Currently the car has 2,400 miles on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've been in contact with many other on forums and these people have family's/small children as do I. Something needs to be done about these cars. Their not safe.

25 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2015 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/02/2015

While driving at low speed, making a right turn and accelerating into traffic, the whole car shakes/wobbles from side to side. Almost frighteningly severe at times. Dealer claims they cannot reproduce. Sometimes get this shake while accelerating gently in straight line, usually always when in second gear. They continue to produce these Jeeps every day, many will have this defect. There are bulletins out there, but nobody really has claimed the issue is fixed. Unacceptable for a modern, new designed car. Feels like a safety risk, but dealer refuses to help. Shouldn't I feel safe driving my new car?.

26 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2015 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 04/01/2015

Vehicle shakes / wobbles when accelerating from a dead stop. The passenger side front tire actually feels loose until approximately 30 mph. Also, when turning right and / or going up an incline, the front end shakes and the vehicle hesitates. Jeep acknowledges that this is an issue and they are redesigning the front axles with a sturdier design. The issue is that the repair is not available for several months at least, because it's still in development. There is a real concern that the axle could fail and cause an accident.

27 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2015 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 03/03/2015

Transmission shifts very rough when shifting from first to second. Sometimes the whole vehicle which shake when it shifts.

28 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/10/2014

I was traveling on the freeway during rush hour traffic in the left lane, traffic was stop and go. Traffic slowed down, once traffic started moving again I stepped on the gas but the car would not accelerate, it would not respond at all. I looked at the dash board and a service transmission message appeared on the screen. I also had a (p)! light on but the parking brake was not on. I tried turning the car off and turning it back on and the car jerked very strongly because I was in traffic I thought someone had hit me but it was my car that had shaken very violently. I put it in neutral it roll just a bit and then would not move the car would not move at all. Chp had to tow me off the freeway. After a day at the dealer, we were told it was a bad connection between the computer and the transmission and that the car was now fixed. I was lucky no one hit me while I was stuck in the middle of the freeway and that my kids were not in the car. I drive on the freeway all the time, the car is less than a year old and I am very afraid to drive this car. After reading other similar cases I feel this is a major safety issue with this type of car and that someone (ntsb) should review transmission issues with these cars further.

29 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2015 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/01/2014

I am at a stop sign with cross traffic that doesn¿t stop, with a mph limit of 50, there's a gap big enough for me to go through the intersection. I put my foot on the gas pedal, Jeep slowly advances forward but not engaging into the correct gear, it's starting out in 3rd gear! when it should be shifted into 1st, coasting through these lanes of oncoming traffic, I am rocking back & forth in my seat saying ¿come on Jeep, shift! let¿s go!¿ as I look to my left & right & see cars getting closer to me, my heart beats a little quicker at this point, especially when my 2 year old son is in the car with me. Finally half way through the intersection Jeep drops down hard into1st gear from 3rd gear & boom we are off, whiplash, sounds of a transmission fallen to the ground, heart beating so fast it's going to explode but we get across the road in the nick of time of the oncoming traffic! same scenario has happened several other times, I could go on with stories but I think you get the picture. This happens so much that I don¿t know what to do. The dealership that I have gone to, of course, can't duplicate my issue but they're told that this is a common complaint they've been receiving from other Cherokee owners. I've also had the software updates done. I did get a recall notice for possible incorrect info. In the user guide/owner¿s manual regarding flat towing vehicles which may result in vehicle shake while flat towing over rough roads. This is recalled but a transmission issue isn¿t? Jeep claims that they depend on the satisfaction of their customers for the success of their business & are constantly monitoring the quality of their products & looking for ways to improve their vehicles, even after they are sold. I am not asking for anything except for this issue to be resolved. I know Jeep has acknowledged this issue but I would like to have Jeep come up with a solution.

30 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/30/2014

Since getting this vehicle in oct. 2014 we have had nothing but problems with it. The car switches gears when it shouldn't and lunges forward. Also when you slow down to stop the car lurches and shakes before coming to a complete stop. Sometimes you can feel the pedal pumping under your foot when you are moving slowly in traffic. Whenever you are going up any type of hill the engine sounds like it is going to explode. We have taken it to the dealership where we purchased it numerous times and continue to just be told that it is a known issue with 2014 Jeep Cherokee's. There is also a clicking noise by the tires whenever your make a turn. We also took it to the dealership for this and they claim they didn't notice anything. It sounds like the wheel is going to fall off! we should not have these problems with a car that has less than 20,000 miles on it! I cannot wait to get rid of this Jeep. I've had older cars in the past and had not nearly the amount of problems as I have had with this Jeep. It doesn't feel safe to drive. Jeep is well aware of this issue yet they continue to do nothing about it.

31 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/10/2014

So far, I have experienced three issues with my brand new Jeep Cherokee 2014. 1. When accelerating from a stopped position, the vehicle vibrates/wobbles, while at low first gear speeds. 2. When breaking to stop, a brief surge of acceleration happens just before the stop completes. 3. When accelerating from any speed, the vehicle hesitates with a jerkiness before shifting into gear. I plan to bring the vehicle into the dealership, but, research to date indicates there are no resolutions for these issues. I have owned the Jeep Cherokee for less than three weeks.

32 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/17/2014

While traveling at normal speed in snow mode. The car started to shake a little and was making grinding noises. I drove about ten miles to my host and made an appointment. When I drove the Jeep to the dealer the problem got do bad I thought it was going to break down. I dropped it off and later found out it was the power transfer unit. The part is on back order and I am told I won't get my Jeep back for three weeks. I have only had it for two weeks.

33 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/03/2014

The vehicle wobbles and shakes due to a jerky movement when it shift to 2nd gear. It drives with jerk all throughout 2nd gear till it changes into 3rd gear. At first I thought the vehicle was new and I should wait for break in but the same still continues and my odometer reads 1900. I feel like it is something to do with the clutch plates for 2nd gear.

34 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/19/2014

When you step on the accelorator from 0mph the car stutters and shakes for a few mph until you get to about 15-20mph and then it drives like normal.

35 Vehicle Shudder problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/01/2014

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. While driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle shook and vibrated when shifting between first and second gear. The dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The contact indicated that both front axles and motor mounts were replaced. The computer was also updated, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failures, but no solution was offered. The failure mileage was 1,000.
