I have my 2018 Jeep Compass for literally 10 months now not even a year. Bought the car in April of 2019 and it is now January 2020. I've taken my car approximately 2 times to the shop for routine maintenance. Any time I put the car in reverse it jerks as if something underneath the car is about to fall out. When placed in drive it goes into some sort of limp mode where it does not want to go this has happened to me about 3 times now. Twice in traffic! where I'm stalled out on the highway waving for people to go around. An absolute nightmare. As of last night I was parked at a grocery store about to pull off when the car jerked and shut off again. When I tried to turn the car back on the dash light started to go hay wire and the engine light popped on with the transmission light dinging red that the transmission needs servicing when I put the car in drive again it went no where. This is a huge burden in my life right now this is my only transportation to get my children and I back and forth from school, work, church etc. And I can't even rely on it this is frustrating this car is only 2 years old and has this many major problems with it. I'm literally afraid to drive this car anywhere anymore. I can't believe that this issue hasn't been recalled yet it's soo many complaints on this vehicle. I literally look up everyday to see if this issue has been recalled or if I've received a notice in the mail of this particular recall and nothing! this is not right at all and something needs to be done ASAP.

Car stalled 4 times in the last 4 months while at stop lights. I was stopped at light and when I went to move again the car stalled-all panel lights flashed and car would not turn on again. After multiple attempts the car finally started. After the most recent occurrence I drove immediately to the nearest midas because oi was afraid to drive it any farther. They ran diagnostics and could not find a definitive answer. The battery was fine.

1) the Jeep Compass was traveling in motion on a farm to market road and stalled. It completely shut down. No steering, no braking. Complete failure. No way to signal or let others traveling down the same highway that the vehicle was stalled. 2) the hood has popped open while traveling down a major highway. 3) all the alarms in the vehicle have gone off while traveling down the road. 4) the low oil pressure light and alarm has gone off while traveling down the road. 5) settings, such as park brake and radio, have changed indiscriminately. * far, the most serious and dangerous problem is the vehicle stalling when in motion. Then, it was hard to restart, in the middle of the road!!**.
Several times after filling up my 2011 Jeep Compass with gas, I turn the car on and drive off. In minutes the steering locks up and car stalls. Car is getting power, all components are still working (lights, radio, etc. ). I turn car off and restart and it sputters and finally starts and is drivable. I have read several other complaints of the same issue and it is dangerous due to the steering locking up and the inability to control the car when it stalls.

The car stalls or does not start. When we hit the start button it clicks and then the display says the car is running. By no means is the car running. We have checked the battery and disconnected the battery to see if it would reset anything. No go. This has also been happening since we bought the vehicle two years ago. It has now decided it will not start at all.
The vehicle at any known time goes into the parking brake mode and stalls! the dealership does not recognize the problem and twice we were advised to change the oil? the oil changes which should not even be entertained has always been kept up to date. My question should we change the oil before or after the severity of the accident that can occur due to this malfunction. And why is this not a recall there are so many complaints online people experiencing same problem. Are you waiting till someone dies before doing something about it? that would surely sore sales? not understanding how this is going on so long. It has occurred on three incidents now highway and side street , it should not matter it is extremely dangerous!.
On three separate occasions our newly leased 2019 Jeep Compass stalled while at high speed. We all had to pull over with out power steering. This happened shortly after we pulled out on to a main road from our neighborhood.

This Jeep cannot go 3,000 miles between oil changes. Even when using a fully synthetic oil that has a life span of 5,000 miles, the "low oil pressure" warning comes on. If not serviced, the vehicle stalls (usually while turning the steering wheel, usually in the middle of an intersection!). Upon towing it to a service station, they state that they can't fix it, only the dealership can fix it. The dealership states that it just needs an oil change. So, instead of using the "mileage to next oil change" sticker, I have to have the oil level checked to estimate when it will stall again. I do not feel safe in this car.
The stop/start battery had to be replaced. Within 2 months the car battery had to be replaced. This was because the stop/start engine died various times. The car would not start for over 10 minutes. A month after fixing it , it stalled again. I am 65 years old and this is very unsafe. I stop at a stop sign and start to go and it dies. It seems that the stop/start engine has to be stopped for a period of time before you can go.
I had been driving the car for a few minutes and stopped at a red light behind another vehicle. When the light turned green, I drove and turned right. After about 10 yards, my car stalled just as I was trying to accelerate. Fortunately, no one was behind me, or I would have likely been hit. This had happened twice before, so I knew the process: put the car in park, turn on the emergency break, turn off the emergency break, turn off the car, turn on the car, put the car in drive. This sequence seemed to work, but my car should never stop in the middle of the road while I am driving. It is scary and unsafe.
While driving my car and making a turn on a busy intersection in chicago my car completely shut off. It appears to be on, but I cannot accelerate. I turn the car off, there's a stall before my car completely restarts. No lights have come on at all. When the car finally comes back on, the emergency brake is activated and it takes some time to get it to turn off. I am not due for an oil change for at least another 2k miles.
My vehicle has 15562 miles on it and is 400 miles from it's oil change. When driving vehicle on neighborhood streets it would randomly stall and shut off causing a loss of power steering and vehicle acceleration. When we arrived home we did a once over on the engine and the oil dip stick was bone dry. We called our local dealership and they mentioned that they had seen several Jeep Compasses with the same issue.
Car stalls\stops while driving whether driving straight or making turns. Very dangerous.

My car has stalled out several times on the interstate and in busy in town traffic all due to low oil pressure. I have taken my car in several times to have the oil topped off because my dipstick is showing no oil. This happens about every 500 miles. This car is a death trap!.
Leased this car brand new. At 60 miles on odometer, went to start car, car turned started but then stalled/turned off instantly. Had to wait a few minutes to start again. At 250 miles car came to brief stop on slight incline while waiting for a parking gate to open, parking gate opened and vehicle was starting to roll with the car off, I released my foot from the brake but the car wouldn't start it stalled. I pushed the brakes back to stop my car. Car was still in drive, I tried to re-start my car by hitting the push button , car wouldn't turn over. Eventually was able to restart after 60 minutes. This is an extreme safety hazard, I am lucky this didn't happen at a busy intersection.
Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph the vehicle suddenly began to reduce speed before later stalling and not moving. After shutting the engine off and later restarting the vehicle operated as normal. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified. The failure mileage was 199,000. Jft.

On 2/28/19 I leased a 2019 Jeep Compass. I have been having minor issues with it when trying to start the car, sometimes it just doesnt start. As I write this on 9/3/19 I am extremely concerned about the lease I have and therefore why I am documenting my experience. Last week, Tuesday, 8/27/19 while in an intersection, my car completely shut off. I reached out to miami lakes auto mall on various occasions, this was a total disaster, I kept being transferred to voicemails and could not get anyone on the phone while in the middle of this intersection. I called Chrysler roadside (another mess) and ended up having to wait 4 hours until a tow truck could come and get my car, still in the middle of an intersection, had to call 911 so a police car could park behind me as obviously this was a safety issue. After finally getting the car towed, police, rain and being stuck in an intersection and all, finally made it to the dealership. Customer service was horrible except for a service manager called jonathan, he was the only person that spoke with me during this time, of course after I arrived to the dealership, enterprise was closed so I had to take an uber home. I had to leave to tampa for work so I had to go get a rental at national that morning and head out, on Thursday the 29th I spoke with jonathan and he told me the issues with the vehicle was a software failure and that the vehicle is working properly now. With hurricane dorian coming and if I had to evacuate, of course, I was not feeling confident that I wasn't going to get stranded with my family with a faulty vehicle so I had to keep the rental for a few more days. I am very nervous of taking this vehicle home as now I dont know if it will leave me stalled, I have read this is an issue with the Compass. I have filed a complaint with Jeep as well.
This is my third complaint on this 2019 Jeep Compass. While driving the vehicle stalls and the emergency brake and other lights come on. The vehicle is unable to be restarted and has to be towed. The dealership has updated software, and now has said that the car is low on oil every three weeks and that's why it stalls in the middle of traffic extremely dangerous and I have a baby on the way!. The oil change indicator doesn't ever show up and the manufacturer just gives the run around.
This is my third time with an issue on this vehicle stalling. I was turning at an intersection and the car just stalled lighting up every notifying signal including an emergency brake being locked in almost causing an serious accident.
The vehicle stalls without warning in all temperatures. Most often when accelerating after braking. Vehicle also looses power and runs rough without warning. At no time have any fault codes tripped.

Vehicle stalls after car has stopped at stop light or stop sign. Vehicle will properly turn off due to auto shut off. Remove foot from brake, vehicle starts and begins to move. Vehicle will then stall quickly after in intersection. Operator needs to put car in park, turn vehicle back on and begin moving. Problem has repeatedly happened during city driving at stops signs.
While getting onto a highway, my rpms dropped and I temporarily lost power steering and started slowing down, then it "caught" and I was able to drive it straight to a car place to get the free diagnostics. Everything came back normal so I left. Later in the day as I was pulling out of my neighborhood it stalled again and completely shut off this time. When trying to turn it on again it either would but then would immediately stall again or it would just never start. While trying to turn it on, all the dash lights light up including check engine, which has not been on until the car stalled the second time.
The auto start/stop feature in my car is not reliable. There have been three instances when I've been stopped at a light, I take my foot off the brake, the system activates start, and then as soon as I hit the gas, my car stalls. I then have to put my car in park, turn the vehicle off completely, and start it again. This obviously strikes high concern due to the strong possibility of being rear ended. I took my vehicle in to the dealership I bought it from and they said they didn't know. I left agitated. I just purchased my vehicle less than 6 months ago.
After refueling within 1-2 miles spits spuders bucks, then stalls! safty is at issue of causing a accident or getting hit!!!! make Jeep accountable! happens evertime now 6 mos.

After getting off of the highway and coming to a stop at the light, I went to turn and my car stalled out as I was turning. I was on a one lane overpass with no way to pull over. It wouldn't even register that I was trying to turn off my vehicle for a minute. I was finally able to restart my car and keep driving.
This happened three times over the past two weeks. I have been driving my car in heavy traffic and car will throw itself in emergency brake mode and engine will turn off. Loss of steering control is gone as well. Have been extremely lucky to not get in an accident. Dropped car off to dealer who blamed it on "low oil. " due to "low oil" levels however car is only 7 months old and just 4k miles. He recommended I change the oil every 750 miles! 750! a standard car is every 5,000 miles. The fact that my oil change could be the determining factor between my engine turning off mid drive and getting in an accident is absurd. While researching there are hundreds of similar cases with the same car. People have gotten in accidents due to the car stalling on highways and intersections. Not safe to drive. Do not recommend. Legitimately scared to drive. Should not be allowed on the road!.
Vehicle will without warning stall in the middle of driving, in city traffic, on country roads, starting up a hill as well as driving on flat straight road. I've been driving 55mph, 45 mph 25 mph and it will stall, the traction control light will come on. Sometimes the car will not restart for 10+ minutes after stalling. Each time I was driving in traffic, and had children in the vehicle with people behind me. Engine just cuts all power, power steering is lost. Also have noticed a huge drop in fuel efficiency, used about 1/4 of a tank in 30 miles, acceleration and vehicle not shifting normally. This is the 6th time in two weeks it has stalled, and 2nd time to take it into the dealership with this issue. I've only had about 6 months, it was cpo and have driven it about 10,000 miles.
I purchased the Compass brand new and have only 4,600 miles on the vehicle. When I was pulling up to a stop sign at a very busy intersection, the "low oil pressure" light came on and the vehicle stalled and would not move. Dealership said that this is "how the engine is designed to function" and resolved with an oil change. The oil should not be so low that engine cuts off. Also, this "safety feature" is incredibly dangerous as it gives no warning and cuts out while driving. This needs to be corrected!!.
My Jeep Compass want to stall when I press the gas! it has been doing it now for 2 days and it does not happen all the time but did almost cause me to wreck on a highway yesterday! this has happened on highways and side roads. The car has not stalled out completely but it wants to and when in does it causes the car to jerk and lose speed. My car only has 33,000 miles on it.
The 2. 4 engine in the 2018 Compass is using oil at a very high rate. In the first 3200 miles our Jeep used 3. 5 quarts of oil. The oil got so low that the car stall in the middle of a busy highway on my wife. The performance of this vehicle is unsafe, you never know when the oil get low and the car stalls. I have followed up with the dealer who referred me to Chrysler customer care. I spoke with a person there who advised that a quart of oil in a 1000 miles was acceptable. I advies her that a new car should not be using any oil. Chrysler knows there is a problem with the 2. 4 engine and their answer is " we will put you on a oil change program"> I am not the only owner that is having a problem with the Jeep Compass, all you have to do is google Jeep Compass 2. 4 engine oil problem. The long and the short of this is, there is a problem with the 2. 4 engine, Chrysler knows it and will not recall it. The car is unsafe because it will stop running at anytime or anyplace when the oil get low. My wife was nearly broadside because the car stopped in the middle of a travel lane. When she got the car running again it stopped several more time before we were made aware of the oil problem. This car should be recalled due to the engine problem. I shouldn't have to keep adding oil to a $30k plus vehicle. Recall it before some one get killed.
Tl the contact owns a 2016 Jeep Compass. While operating the vehicle and turning left, the vehicle stalled and the malfunction indicator light illuminated. The vehicle was able to be restarted, but the failure recurred the following day. After investigating failure on the internet, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA campaign number: 16v907000 (engine and engine cooling). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The failure mileage was 39,000.
2018 Jeep Compass stalled while wife was attempting to cross 6 lanes of traffic. No warning lights or indicators displayed at all. Oil level in the car after 3000 miles did not even register on dipstick, so car burned 3+ qts oil.
