Hatchback/liftgate Support Device Problems of Jeep Grand Cherokee

Very disappointed in this how Jeep (fca) has allowed a driver to back-up with the liftgate open, without a chime or other loud warning (similar to that when your doors are open. By accident I backed up after automatically closing the liftgate and assuming it was closed. The liftgate was not able to close and automatically re-opened without warning. I was in a parking garage and unfortunately the liftgate rubbed against the cieling of the garage, causing minor damage to the liftgate. It could have been much worse. I contacted Jeep to log my complaint but was rebuffed and believe me, for their attitude in addressing a safety issue that should be corrected immediately, I will think twice about buying another Jeep. No vehicle should be allowed to be backup with the liftgate open, and without a chime to alert the driver.

The dealer was notified several times but the parts were not available which she considered to be a major safety issue especially since her air bag warning lamp was illuminated. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, he inadvertently engaged the rear liftgate release button and the liftgate opened while the vehicle was in motion.
