- vehicle engine shut down & lost all power to engine at major intersection - in turning lane at rush hour could not move car- others slammed brakes -resulted in angry drivers & no ability to move car 3 lanes either direction. - problem reconfirmed by Chrysler -Jeep dealership - inspected by Chrysler mechanics to confirm loose connection that caused fuse to blow & burnt (tipm) circuit board allowing no power to throttle. -no warnings at all at a center intersection when entire car shut down. 2nd occurrence after a fuse repair resulted in vehicle throttle shut down again no warning & this time on a 2 lane highway at 50+ mile speed which could have been on 6 lane hwy. At 70+ mile hours speeds which could have resulted in a deadly accident involving numerous drivers! this (tipm) part has a major recall for many chryslers models. It does not show for our VIN but we have experienced the exact issues as described for this specific recall. Costs include tow fees, repair quote at over $1700. 00, time in shop without a car all significant. Concern: will it happen again ? request recall reimbursement that should qualify for our vehicle as well !!.

5 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2019 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 07/20/2020

The first time the car had a sign that said stop safely vehicle will shut off soon I pulled into a parking lot and the car turned off and wouldn't turn back on. The second time I stopped at a stop sign I got no message or warning and the car completely turned off, and would not turn back on. The third time I was at a red light and got the stop safely message as well as various other warning messagesthen the vehicle shut off again completely. Wouldn't start. The forth time, I was at a 4 way intersection with a 3 way stop I did not have a stop sign but the person to my right thought I did. He thought he had the right of way, I slammed on my breaks to avoid a collision and the car stopped, completelygave all the warning lights and would not restart.

9 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 02/21/2019

Randomly the Jeep will completely go crazy. The windshield wipers with fluid run, blinkers, horn, and ----> the engine shuts off while driving at any speed. I lose power steering and power brakes at the same time. This is seriously dangerous. I called the local Jeep dealer and they told me to call Chrysler. I did some research in Jeep forums online and found this is a very common problem with the Jeep Wranglers from 2007 forward. Jeep has a recall for the most recent models, but no recall for the previous years to include mine. I'm really confused how this happens to so many Jeep Wranglers around my year, but there are no recalls. This is a significant safety issue for the vehicle occupants and definitely for other vehicles around.

10 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2013 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/13/2018

My 2013 Wrangler unlimited has recently started to stall while driving. It happens randomly, 4 times in the last 3. 5 months - the latest was today and yesterday. It starts again after sitting about 5-10 minutes or disconnecting the battery and seems to drive fine otherwise. No lights go off, it just dies and I loose power steering. This has happened in lower gears as well as higher. The dealership states they have never heard of this problem and advised me that they would not be able to do much since no dash lights go off. I have bought a code reader and no codes are thrown. It happened while driving on a major highway doing 65-70 mph while in the middle lane. The car literally just shuts off with no notice. My family could have been killed! in short. . . Car was moving then shut down for no reason.

11 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2013 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 09/01/2018

Driving on highway and the engine shut off for no apparent reason. When the engine is off there is a loss of power steering etc. This has happened several times. Starting at about 32,000 miles. The dealership has tried to fix it but the vehicle still has this problem.

12 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/06/2018

My Jeep with 86k miles engine blew. One week earlier when driving over 40 miles per hour it seemed to wobble a bit from left to right, I thought maybe it was because I had 4 wheel drive on. I have only owned it for a month and it is a 2nd vehicle and I was not sure if that was normal or not. Then after not driving the vehicle for 4 days I moved it out of my driveway and was less then a block from my home when the oil light came on and half a block later the engine cut out. The car wouldnt start again and I had it towed to the dealer where I purchased it. They told me the internal fuel pump seemed to malfunction and the engine was blown! when I returned home I noticed a pool of oil in my driveway. This car sat for days and was barely driven by me since my purchase. How does an engine at 86k miles just blow? how does oil just dump out of a vehicle? why? well doing internet research it appears that this 2007 engine year there was a mistake in the engines where pistons were put in upside down? there was no recall for this and many 2007 Jeeps have had this happen. I am lucky it happened on a local road, if I was driving 65 in middle lane of a highway and my engine just shut off I would be dead. I couldnt steer it. It just stopped. . . . . I have tried calling Chrysler and have been transfered many times to other people, I am at a loss of what to do. Again, I have had this vehicle 1. 5 months. . .

13 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2012 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/01/2017

When driving my Jeep it has shut off on its own. Today I when from drive to reverse and was trying to park on a busy street and the vehicle just shut off on its own. I had to put the vehicle in park turn the key to the off position and then start the vehicle again before I could drive again. This is very dangerous and could possibly kill someone if this happens on the interstate. Ive read many reports on line of people having the same problem.

14 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2013 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 09/26/2017

I have 2013 Jeep Wrangler unlimited sport. I'm having an issue the the vehicle shutting off while in operation. There are no warning light or any indications. This has happened 3 times to me so far. First time was in late August, my girlfriend and I were heading home from work. 2nd time was on 9/16/17, and most current was yesterday 9/26/17. It happens at any speed, once it shuts off, it won't start back up right away, usually you have to let it sit for 10-15 minutes. If you try to start it before it will sound like it is trying to turn over but will not. The 1st time it happened I took it to my mechanic, he hooked it up to the computer and it came back with no open codes. At the point I'm not sure what to do. Dealership will not return call. Hate to just replace items if it is not going to fix the problem. All 3 times this had happened on local road ways, on sunny clear days, and the vehicle was in motion all three times. I do feel lucky so far our kids have not been in the Jeep nor have we been on an interstate traveling 70 mph. Having your vehicle just shut off puts you in danger from all the other drivers.

15 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2012 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 06/25/2017

Driving at freeway speeds some bumps or uneven surface cause car to lurch. Engine shuts down to no throttle; this is very disconcerting for driver. Happens 2-3 times a month on such roads. I suspect the skid control. When that is turned off it does not do it. Jeep needs to fix this. Car recovers after 2-3 seconds but in meantime this could easily cause car behind to hit you. So far have been lucky this did not happen.

16 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2015 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/08/2017

Vehicle engine shuts down unexpectedly at highway and low speeds. Difficult to restart. Difficult to put in gear. Vehicle was in motion when engine shut down.

17 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2012 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 07/09/2016

Vehicle caught fire while I was driving and lost all power. Engine shut off and there was little ability to steer. As soon as I pulled over smoke started to come out from the sides of the hood. When I opened the hood, there were flames coming from the engine near the firewall. Luckily a police officer happened to be driving by. He quickly put out the fire using an extinguisher from his patrol car; had he not been there the car would have quickly been consumed. This happened a few days ago. Since that time I have done some research and I have become aware that this is an ongoing problem with Wranglers for many years now. It's disappointing that Chrysler has not figured out what causes these fires; had this happened while I was driving on a highway the lack of steering ability could have easily resulted in the serious injury or death of not just me but other drivers as well.

18 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2011 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 11/23/2015

Monday, January 11, 2016 4:21 pm transmission fire. 2011 Jeep Wrangler rubicon with 81k miles all maintenance. No modifications and no off roading. Lost power on an inclined road. Then the car shut off after all the panels went crazy and then black smoke started pouring out of the hood area. Only thing that kept my car from going up in flames was it was pouring down rain and I was on an incline. The 100000 mile / 5 year power tran warranty ended the day before this happened. At the time I did not know it was an engine fire do to the rain and all the black smoke. The dealership has been no help and both did not even mention fire until I did further investigation and had a private mechanic look at it. I am in the process of waiting on an insurance adjuster to complete their investigation.

19 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2015 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 09/30/2015

Engine problems: starting summer 2015 engine shuts off while driving, accelerating, slowing down, stopped engine will not go back into gear engine loses power when accelerating or cruising brought into dealership (purchase location) approximately August 19th 2015 released September 2nd 2015 problems persisted brought into different dealership approximately September 14th 2015 released approximately September 26th problems persisted brought into dealership September 30th 2015 still in custody as of October 8th on September 29th, I was taking an on ramp for an interstate. The ramp is an uphill, hair pin turn that then turns into an off-ramp for oncoming traffic. I have never experienced an issue accelerating and merging into the interstate traffic here. However, this afternoon I was not able to get the acceleration that I expected. When I ran out of ramp room, I would have needed to slow down significantly in order to allow the side by side tractor trailers to go by. However, because of other cars that were behind me on the on-ramp, that was not an option without possibly causing an accident. So I merged with as much power as I could get, which was not enough. The closest tractor trailing came barreling down upon me quickly with horn blaring. On September 30th, just a couple miles away from the dealership, I was the first in line at a red light. The Jeep shut off. I could not get it back into gear. It just remained in neutral no matter which gear I tried to put it in. I shifted in and out of park and other gears turned the vehicle off and back on many times. A few times drive would engage but then the engine would shut off again after a few feet. I finally got it into gear and accelerated quickly hoping to cover a greater distance and it worked. I was able to finish my trip to the dealership.

21 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2006 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/21/2015

2006 Jeep Wrangler unlimited after getting fuel filled I pull out of station and it starts hesitating and then stalls in middle of street. It nearly caused an accident from car behind me I had to restart and it would stall and bog few more times then run ok. Today I fueled up and pulled out of station at a 6 lane divided road with an interstate with on and off ramps both sides so I had only 100 feet to cross three lanes to get into left turn lane for interstate as this lane goes under and at light turns left to on ramp, just to give you insight on situation, I fuel up pull out and it shuts off cars have to stop I am in middle of three lane dead in the water it starts back up and I pull up thank god a safe distance to car in front of me and it bogs down and the surges making the Jeep thrust forward had to brake hard no accident was caused but god forbid it could have please research this.

23 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2012 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 06/27/2013

. I have a 2012 Wrangler sahara 4dr and this past week I had to tow my Jeep into a dealership in texarkana. I was driving 45 mph and not trying to gun the rpms. I had total shutdown but was able to get off the road. The dealership hooked it up and told me that my asd 25 amp fuse had blown but couldn't figure out why. My Jeep ran okay for much of the day but by night it blew another fuse as I accelerated from a green light and into the intersection. I replaced it with another 25 amp fuse but fear that if I put a 30 amp in that it would be too much for a burn out but I wanted to make sure I got home. I drove back home (an hour drive up and down hills) and it seemed to always want to ramp up the rpms suddenly. I would love to know if anyone else has had this kinda issue? I have less than 25,000 miles on my Jeep. Update. . . I have now had three fuses blow and two tows to dealerships because I couldnt keep a good fuse. I hope someone can please help me point out the direction the dealership needs to be looking for. This is getting frustrating. It seems to blow a fuse when I hit any type of bump in the road. No electrical mods were made except my warn winch, which was installed at the dealership for warranty reasons. Currently my Jeep remain in a tow yard until tomorrow where they tow it back to the dealership * no warning lights are indicated * new air filters * no electrical mods * factory sound system * rides rough * when fuse blows, total vehicle shutdown occurs including power steering and brakes.

25 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/06/2012

My 2008 Jeep Wrangler 4x4 spun a bearing due to inferior manufacturing, assembly and parts. I was turning a traffic circle corner at approx 40mph when the engine shut off once the bearing spun. As a result, I lost power stearing and brakes. Unfotunately this is very common with 2007-2008 Jeep Wranglers. I think the manufacturer of the vehicle should be held responsible for the repairs as its due to poor workmanship and inferior parts. This is a very expensive fix and dangerous since the engine will shut off shortly after the incident.

27 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 08/03/2007

When driving my 2007 Jeep, it has 2x, completely shut off while going about 70 mph in traffic. I took it to bondy's Jeep dothan, looked at by service depart. And given back - nothing wrong. The second time, returned to bondy's, some wiring harnesses were replaced. Then recall was issued, took it back-they fixed recall. Continued to have issues, been to bondy's eight times. It has not shut completely off again that was pretty scary - but the dashboard lights up with errors and I lose power everything (air conditioner, signals, radio, entire control panel, etc?). The same thing happened when it shut off completely, so my concern is that it will happen again. If I were to pull out onto a highway, that could be it. Please advise me on what action I need to take. Following is a timeline of what has been going on. I have not been able to get anyone from Jeep to call me to help me with this issue. I have only been working third party with my local Jeep dealer, who has been great, but has not yet solved any issues. 4/14/2007 Jeep cuts completely off while going 70 mph on hwy 431 all cluster lights lit up. 4/15/2007 Jeep cuts off completely again pulling out of the grocery store parking lot. 4/17/2007 took it to bondy's. Got it back on 4/19/2007. Service dept stated it was fixed. 4/26/2007 all clusters lit up like before but did not shut off. No air conditioner, radio, nothing electric worked. Took to bondy's. 7/11/2007 same thing 7/12/2007 recall received by mail, took to bondy's. 8/2/2007 it happened again. 8/3/2007 took to bondy's left it with the service dept. Do not have it back yet. It has been at bondy's 39 days total since time of purchase, in the service dept.

30 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 06/21/2007

I own a 2007 Jeep wranger unlimited (4-door) yesterday I was driving on a rural highway between 60-70mph and I lost all power, the radio shut down and I looked down at my dash and all my lights lit up. I felt the engine shut down as I begun to move to the shoulder all the power came back up. I came home to tell my husband and he looked on the internet and found similar situations being reported. I called my local dealer and the dealer I purchased the car from and they both had no idea about this being an issue. My concern is will this be an ongoing issue and can it be fixed. I don't want to be driving at a fast speed to have this happen again, this cannot be safe. The dealers said they would run diagnostics but will that truly identify the issue if this has happened only once.

31 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

I exited the highway on to the ramp doing 35mph and in the turn I lost all power, the engine shut down, within a few seconds all the dash lights came on and the engine restarted. 32 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

33 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/31/2007

At approximately 8,100 miles, while driving through a subdivision at 25 mph, vehicle engine shut off and restarted. Also had loss of power steering and the radio turned off. Both returned once the engine restarted. No action taken on my part, but vehicle speed did slow. Total time from shutdown to restart was one or two seconds. Have not scheduled dealer service yet.

34 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/15/2007

On multiple occasions, the vehicle has stalled at speed. Four out the five times it has happened so far, it started back on its own. One of the stalls required stopping and restarting the vehicle. Each stall has occurred randomly, twice with cruise control on, once while accelerating, once while braking and once while driving steady without cruise. Two times it stalled on the highway at speeds between 65 to 75 mph, two of the times it stalled on an on or off ramp to the highway between 35 to 45 mph, and once in a parking lot at about 15 mph. Each time it has stalled, the engine shuts off, all electrical equipment shuts off completely (radio, a/c, lights) and the gauges drop to zero like the vehicle is off. All but one of these time, the vehicle then starts right back up within about 1 to 3 seconds, the gauges return to normal, radio turns back on, etc. Each time the vehicle stalled like this, the transmission was fully in gear (no clutch being used at the time). I have taken the vehicle in three times for repair. The first times were supposedly to update the vehicles computer system. The third time, I don't know if anything was done or not, but dealer told me that neither they, nor Chrysler can figure out what is wrong with it and will not fix it at this time. Obviously, this is very much a safety concern and hope for this to be resolved soon.
