I brought my vehicle in for the open recall as my engine seized: manufacturer safety recall issued NHTSA: #21v259 recall: #sc209a sc209a ecm update (piston-ring noise) kia is refusing the repairs and has not completed the recall, which includes the following remedy: kia will inspect and if necessary replace the engine at no cost to you. If it has not been done already, kia will inspect and, if necessary replace the engine the estimated time required to perform the inspection is approximately 1-2 hours. If engine replacement is necessary, the estimated time required is 8 hours or more. In addition, kia will install the piston-ring noise sensing system software for the engine control unit in the vehicle that will alert the driver of potential damage to the piston oil rings. The estimated time to install the software will be approximately 1 hour. The software should be installed wiether or not your vehicle's engine was already inspected and/or replaced under the original campaign notification. If you have not had the engine inspected, please immediately contact an authorized kia dealer to arrange to have both the recall and the piston ring noise sensing system software installed at no cost to you. The car has been at the dealership for over 1 month with no resolution.

I have contacted kia several times about this recall, the latest being today. I tried to schedule an appointment with galeana kia in fort myers, FL. The service departement told me there was no remedy for this recall. I referred the dealer to the kia website. "remedy dealers will inspect and replace the engine as necessary, free of charge. Dealers will also install piston-ring noise sensing system (pnss) software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed April 4, 2025. Owners may contact kia customer service at 800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is sc336. " I then called kia directly. They told me to contact the dealer. I told them I already had done so. The kia rep told me that I had to wait for the dealer. I said I don't accept that because the kia website lists the remedy. I eventually spoke to two supervisors. I was told that kia does not own the dealership, so they can't force them to service the recall. Kia told me that if I went to the dealer now the dealer would bill me. I said that is unacceptable. In November 2024 I had an issue with my kia that may be related to this recall. My vehicle stalled and I could not restart it. I had it towed to galeana kia. Turns out that the oil level was low in the engine. However, there was never any warning or warning light indication that the oil level was low. I was billed $315. 96. I expect to receive a refund of that amount as this is related to the recall.

The defect may cause damage to the catalytic converter due to overheating, resulting in abnormal engine combustion and damage to the engine pistons. Piston damage can result in a stall, increasing the risk of a crash. If a piston rod breaks and punctures the engine block, oil can escape, increasing the risk of a fire. The engine caught on fire while I was driving on the highway. I was sold this car without being told of any recalls. The dealership has refused to take responsibility for not informing me of the recall. Kia cooperate office has minimal contact with me. They are currently having it towed to a kia dealer for diagnostic testing. Currently I own $400. 00 just for the rental.

Kia sold me a 2016 kia Soul that does not have "immobilizer" software. Kia's cheezey solution is a steering wheel lock. Of note, Hyundai is now offering software updates that install immobilizer function. Thought kia and Hyundai are one company. So, I have a vehicle that can easily be stolen if I park it anywhere except in my locked garage. Thus far, no good solution from kia nor from the dealership where I purchased my 2016 Soul. I bought this vehicle in good faith which now is crumbling.

While driving on the NJ turnpike at night time, I went to change from the right lane into the middle lane and the car stalled not able to pick up speed. As the car stalled there was a fast moving truck which was coming and that was able to switch lanes forcing me to move into the last lane which made the cars behind me have to come to a sudden stop. I then had to put on my hazards and slowly move back over to the shoulder. Once completely stopped I shut off the engine. After waiting for some time I started the car again, but nothing changed. I remained in the right lane with hazards on and drove the car not being able to go above 40 mph. Eventually the car got back to driving normal right before arriving home which was about a 40 to 50 minute ride. The car was taken to the dealership and I learned that the catalytic converter needs to be replaced. This is after taking this car to be looked at twice and being told that there was nothing found. Now I find that there is a recall on the car (NHTSA 19v120000), but it says that my vehicle is not amongst the vehicles recalled.
While sitting in traffic my car began to shake and then stalled and turned off. It was able to restart and then later while driving down the interstate it began to stop accelerating when I pressed the gas. Fortunately I was able to make it to the shoulder from the left lane as car slowed to a stop and the break pedal locked up. The car would not turn on any more. After mechanic inspection, they reported that a piston had melted in the engine and because the oil had dried up, even though the car had its last oil change two months ago.

December 2020 while driving on the freeway my 2014 kia Soul started stalling and threatening to lose power, and then, without warning the engine light appeared. My car jerked and threatened to turn off-acceleration was decreased-it was very alarming and very sudden. The engine light stayed on for a few seconds then it started flashing off and on. I took my Soul to a nearby mechanic and was informed that I needed motor. In September 2020 the same thing happened, my kia Soul started stalling and jerking, engine light came on, I had decreased acceleration-started losing power. I was close to a kia dealership service center, at that time, and kia diagnosed my kia Soul-and per the invoice there was a cylinder 3 misfire detected. Cylinder 3 coil has open circuit. I paid $500. 00+ in repairs. Three months later December 2020-same symptoms but worse, and now there is a much larger problem. I reached out to the kia dealership who performed the repair in September 2020, and informed them of the problem, and shared what the mechanic informed me of, and was told to bring it in for a diagnosis which would cost approximately $200. 00, so that the kia service center could determine whether or not my Soul needed a motor. I'm sorry, but I just paid $500. 00+ for repairs in September 2020, and I had to pay $79. 00+, to the mechanic who diagnosed my Soul, I did not, and still do not, have $200. 00 extra dollars for kia to run a diagnostic and give me the same diagnosis. Nor did I, or do I have, the extra money to tow my Soul to kia. I had one tow, and I made the decision to have my kia Soul towed to my residence where she sits today. Sadly in the cold weather, and during a pandemic, I have to seek a ride or take the bus to and from work, and the grocers etc. . This is not good for me or my family at this time.

My 2015 kia Soul stalls and won't pass 45 mph I was at the turnpike when it happen. I also know people with the same problem and that there was a recall on the catalytic converter. But when I look up for my car its says I don't have a recall. Why isn't there a recall for this?.
After sc176 recall repair the vehicle still did not run correctly. After escalating for a vp, kia replaced the catalytic converter. I asked for the parts but kia said the parts were theirs. The engine seemed to be running correctly but failed in Nov. 2020. I went about a mile with the car after it was sitting for 2 days and the check engine came on and blinked and engine ran rough. I had it towed to the kia repair. Kia said I needed a new engine, with parts and labor would be 6k to install. I talked with 2 mechanics besides kia and both said that the car age and miles it should not have failed and that it had to be an over heating issue but it never overheated. I followed maintenance schedule for most of the life of the car.

Driving down the highway and started stalling cutting out and loss of power it went into limp mode called our dealer they said to far away to tow take it to one closer so we took it to patterson kia and told us it would be 5 weeks before they could put it on the computer and they didn't have a loaner so we are on a waiting list.
8/1/20 driving on hwy 231 at 65mph when my car felt like it was stalling, pulled over and turned engine off. It would crank but only go approximately 20 mph or rev to about 2000 rpm, then just putter out. At tuffys where it was said "nothing was coding". Said needed knew fuel pump for $1600. That was replaced but was not the issue. He said there is an active recall associated w/ car and to get it to the local kia dealership. I immediately started researching an found recall 19v120000, I called kia 800# and was told there was no recall associated w/ car and that their search is VIN specific and was no active recalls on this car. I continued to research, called back and yes indeed there was a recall. Car arrived there Friday 8/7/20 at 9:30 am. Spoke w/ chuck and was not given any details though I called him daily. Following Friday(8/14/20) I spoke w/ jared who said they wern't sure but it was looking like possibly a recall issue but that they weren't sure and to call back and they could get me set up w/ a rental car because the engine likely needed replacing. An hour and a half later a women left me a voicemail asking me to get receipts of all oil changes done on vehicle. I still had no explanation on what was wrong with my car. Gave 2 receipts but was not really sure the pertinence if this was a manufacture recall. Kia says the only recall was for a system update. When asked him if this had been done he said no. But I had previously been told by robert at 1800 kia that this had been done. I told jared this and he said "we probably just told tech support that" when I demanded to know if system update had been done he put me on hold, then replied '"OH well that was just done". He said but none of this has anything to do w/ ur car. When asked wtf the actal problem was he said engine was knocking due to my lack of maintenance and needed a new engine but in no way due to a recall.
While driving at 55mph,white smoke began pouring from rear of vehicle from under car and exhaust. All of these symptoms are covered under the recall and service bulletins, please help this is our only vehicle and we can't afford the new engine that should be covered, thank you.

I have been having my car stall at stoplight since the middle of may. I complained on here because there are no recalls on my car but on the same make and model some in the same year as mine does have recalls. Then it started to stall while driving. Then I took video on my phone of having to restart it and the rpms did not work at all. I took the advice from one of the phone numbers on here and they told me to take it to a kia dealer. The kia dealer said there is nothing wrong and no codes, and no lights on the dash. Today it died 3 times the third time was turning left onto a 55 mph road. Thank god the driver coming saw me and my hazards. Yesterday I had a friend drive it and it did the same thing died at lights and while driving at 40 mph. Today I called the kia number and she said to keep taking it in to the dealer but I cannot afford a 90$ service charge every time. I know others were recalled. So I will keep complaining until my car gets on that list or I end up in an accident and have to get a lawyer.

Driving to work from lunch my car stalled and then completely stopped in the middle of the road. The engine light started flashing and then my car started to move again but it was sluggish and slow. It wont go past 45 miles before slowing all the way down. I had got my car recalled three days before, they said nothing was wrong with the engine/transmission at the time of the recall. Now three day later my cars stuck in limp mode showing a p0326 code.
My 15 yr old son (permitted driver), my husband, and I were driving when the car started to jerk, and then stalled completely in the middle of traffic! luckily nobody was hurt, and we were able to get it towed to a kia service center. I have an open recall sc176. The diagnosis from kia fell under all of the criteria & symptoms with the recall. They first diagnosed it as a timing valve, sent a quote ordered parts, then called 2 hours before I am supposed to pick it up, and said my engine now needs replaced. It won't be warranted under the recall because a "code" did not appear. Mind you they found all of this out after they did the ecu upgrade with the recall. I know nothing about a code, but first it was misdiagnosed, then now I need a new engine, and the recall is still open for my VIN. No engine compression test was done, and it took me calling kia headquarters for them to own a tech line case. I was told by headquarters they can only request info via email, then get a voicemail saying that they "called" them, and they said they cannot get the code. Not buying it, and this was a safety occurrence that happened with my son driving. Waiting on the diagnosis now from kia after the 4th request to them.
