1 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2016 Kia Motor Soul

Failure Date: 04/22/2021

A few months ago car intermittently started bucking as if watery fuel or fuel depletion was occurring accompanied with a loud sound as of grinding metal. Check engine light would come on intermittently for a short while and then go off again. Braking and slowing would temporarily stop it until it recurred. With time those episodes grew more frequent. I consulted martin kia of bowling green, ky from whom I bought the car whose service department seemed to offer no suggestion as to the defect. Two autozone stores tested the engine, one with with check engine light off and another with it on, and both tests agreed that the catalytic converter was malfunctioning. Tests at the above kia dealer confirmed that finding and replaced the converter at a total cost of almost $1300. 00 saying its 98000 miles was out of emissions warranty. Problem is, the intermittent bucking and grinding persists. Online I then read that this is likely a recall case already receiving 147 similar complaints and that some of these vehicles had been finally totally destroyed by an engine fires. It has become a fearful thing to drive it with that knowledge. What is your advised course foe a remedy?.

Oil light came on, checked oil and it was low. Added oil. The next day the car loss complete power and stalled on the side of the road. Engine made a loud sound and stopped. Had the vehicle towed to our dealer and was told the lower part of the engine blowed at 82,509 miles. Regular maintenance was done at a dealership in our town. Extended warranty that was purchased had went out 1000 miles back and now we are told the regular power train warranty doesn't cover because we were the 2nd owner. We were told about $9000 to fix the car. I have contacted kia and because they dont have any issues with this VIN# they can't help. Even though when you google engine problems with this year there are plenty of complaint all over the internet. If these cars are giving so much trouble, why isn't there something they can do. I work with 2 people that own kia's of other models and had the same problem and their motor was replace free of charge. I need help, please. We front have the money to replace the motor and my daughter still owes over $9000 on this car.

4 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2016 Kia Motor Soul

Failure Date: 02/13/2021

I was on the freeway in the fast lane and my car started acting like it wanted to stall. The engine light came on briefly and went away. I hit the gas to try to get over to the right lane so that I could exit the freeway and nothing was happening with the rpm it would not go over 2 and I thought I was going to stall on the freeway. I was so upset and finally made it to an off ramp. When I stopped at the off ramp the car was shaking and making a terrible noise like it was going to just explode. I contemplated staying off the freeway and taking the streets but I was not in a good area so I got back on the freeway and stayed in the right hand lane to exit and head straight to the dealership. I immediately called them and told them what happened to me. They said it was a cylinder that was misfiring and that they replaced it. Well I was driving yesterday and the engine light came on again and my car wanted to stall again and it had only been a week since they supposedly fixed it. I took the car in and again they blamed it on the oil and are now saying that my engine may be burning the oil faster than it should and if that is the case they will need to replace the motor. The car has me on edge as I drive my kids and grandkids everywhere. I do not feel safe in this car at all anyomre. I feel like the engine can give out at anytime without warning.

November 25th on my way to work I started hearing a rattle while driving on hwy 30. About a mile from my house. The noise didn't seam to be present while rpm was under 3,000rpm so I decided to be cautious of rpm and not push my car too much that morning. As I pulled into the parking lot the engine stopped, and the oil light flickered. I started the car and parked it. After work the car started fine but as I pulled into the road I heard the rattle again so I went to the nearest place I could to buy oil. Before checking I purchased a quart and found out I had enough oil in the car. The rattle was still present so I purchased oil, filter and decided no harm would come from refreshing the oil in the car. I kept my rpm under 3,000 on my way home and experienced some sudden speed shifts while using cruise control, but kept a slow and steady pace. At the top of a hill near my home the engine made some louder noises and stopped that is the first time the check engine light came on. I bumped the car into neutral and costed into my driveway. I later towed my car to it's parking spot, not wanting to make a potential issues worse. After consulting with a mechanic, he. Suggested an oil change may be the first action to fix the issues. I changed the oil in place and recorded my attempts to start the vehicle after. Mechanic consultant said the first attempt after oil change sounded like a knock that he did not think would be a long term issue. But the second attempt started into a lower rod knock and advised to not attempt to start the car again until it's in a shop with proper diagnostic equipment.

16 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2015 Kia Motor Soul

Failure Date: 08/28/2020

As of last year, my car started eating up about 5qt of oil in a month. I took it in to several replicable service centers, and no one ever found the issues as to why my car was engulfing so much oil. Finally, the end of July 2020, my car started to not accelerate. I took it into a kia service center this time and they explained to me that my car catalytic converter was clogged, and I needed to replace it. At this time, is when I found out that my car was out of warranty. Now remember I'm thinking I have 100. 000-mile warranty and was only at 84,000-miles. This is when I first found out I was lied to. As I'm sure you know, I immediately called the car lot, there was nothing they could do. I then called kia, and they gave me a good will repair for the converter. I myself still had to come out another $700 dollars at the time. Now here is where it all gets complicated. Not even two weeks after I received my car back, the engine gets a hole in it. Yes, the engine goes out. Now here is where I'm trying to get assistance at. I do extensive research, (I will add links below) I first found the recall issues on my car. This why kia paid for the converter because I found it there was a recall on it. But the issues that caused the converter to go out in the first place was never, either 1. Detected or 2. Looked over, because not even two weeks later my car, as I'm driving starts making noises, smoked, blew out a very loud noise and stopped in the middle of the highway. This time the diagnosis was the crank shaft in the engine was dry, no oil which caused it to seize up then cause it to forcible move, which created the hole in the engine. Now going back to when I first started, I was putting 5 qtrs. Of oil a month. My car was never fixed or diagnosed correctly, I. E. Leaving to this current issue. Which is now over $6,000 more to fix.

I got in my car and left work. As soon as I started to drive it was making a horrible noise. I immediately drove it to the local mechanic which is in close proximity to my work. It was diagnosed by both that shop, and a kia dealership shop as having "connecting rod knock. " I was advised not to drive it because it is unsafe. It is at risk of either a sudden stall, which could cause a crash or, a rod may be thrown out the side of the block, puncturing engine oil causing a fire. In addition, the repair is essentially a new engine, which costs over 10k. I have repeatedly sought remedy via kia corporation to no avail. Kia has refused to fix this dangerous car despite there being a recall on this exact issue on the 2014 kia Soul but, the loophole they are sticking with is that mine has the bigger engine. I've had this car about a year and a half, driven it just over 5,000 miles, have done regular oil changes and only done small town, light driving. The car has just over 64,347 miles on it. There has been media coverage about this exact issue that states kia has many more faulty vehicles that need recall status, Souls being mentioned. . Read more...
