Vehicle had recall for exhaust too hot possible fire catalytic converter failure and rod end engine failure. The catalytic converter was replaced before recall and now 2yrs 10mo later has failed again?towed to dealership and my assumption was correct and catalytic converter bad again. Now filed kia complaint#14131010 and am waiting but spoke with service manager and waiting but pretty sure they're not going to cover even after failure of converter before and after their recall. I was driving on u. S. 19 in florida and vehicle just immediately failed with no power and no limp mode at approximately 4-5mph,was almost rear ended in a bad accident from this malfunctioning and what is said in kia's words that limp mode would come on and vehicle could be driven at 1800-2200rpm and 65mph. Not true more like 500rpm and 5mph. Very dangerous possible deaths from this failure.

Engine failure due to same issue the 2016 Soul has a recall for. Traveling on highway with a sudden loss of acceleration followed by power steering loss. Was able to get off highway but it took pressing hard on brakes and pulling e-brake to get the vehicle stopped. Service center says it's the same problem found in 2016 Soul but kia won't approve claims for 2017 Soul as they aren't officially part of recall.

To whom it may concern, the below email was emailed to john porpora (porpora). Porpora is the service manager for coral springs kia in florida. This email provides a timeline of the events and how porpora is informing this author the payment responsibility is not kia coral springs, but the author. The cost is over $800. 00 dear mr. John porpora, thank you for providing an update concerning my vehicle. The purpose of this email is to obtain clarity regarding the needed repairs for the vehicle. Below is a summarization of events that will lead us to today's email. First, the service department conducted a 120k service on 2. 20. 21 at your location. Note, the vehicle's mileage at the time of service was around 116k. This author communicated to elizabeth fraser (fraser); a safety recall notice was published for vehicle VIN kndjx3a52f7114074. Fraser responded, "we do not have a current recall for this vehicle. " on 3. 19. 21, the vehicle was returned to your service department due to engine failure while driving after urgently pleading this matter to fraser on 3. 18. 21 to have the car inspected. After you and fraser conversed, this author was informed a safety recall was published, and our system was unavailable to confirm the initial safety recall inquiring on 2. 20. 21. After reviewing the below recall notice from this dealership's website and complaining about the car's performance, why am I being charged for the repair you mentioned to me? 2016 kia Soul /w 2. 0 liter long block engine. Approximately 85k miles at the time of engine failure due to spontaneous oil loss. Vehicle had been well maintained with regular oil changes. Dealership and kia corporate refuse to provide any consideration that the failure is due to mfg. Defect despite numerous reported incidents of this exact failure.

Driving home a few weeks ago my kia stalled on the interstate, stopping me in in heavy traffic with out warning. I was able to get it safely off the road after it started back up. When it started it started blowing all kinds of white smoke, ran really rough, all the dash lights came on, and I noticed the engine was now knocking. The next morning I got it towed to kia dealer where they did some work under recall sc176 which was a failed computer which over heated the exhaust converter which resulted in internal engine failure due to back pressure and combustion. My engine now has a failed engine connecting rod. Kia did the basic recall work but now is refusing to replace the engine under their own recall. As it states right in the recall. If the catalytic converter is damaged, substrate particles can enter the engine combustion chamber and cause abnormal engine combustion. Continuous abnormal engine combustion can result in damage to one or more of the engine's pistons which can cause piston rod breakage, potentially puncturing the engine block allowing engine oil to escape. Engine oil that contacts a hot exhaust surface may result in a fire. In addition, the catalytic converter will also be replaced if it has been damaged. Depending on the extent of any damage, the engine may also be replaced. This car I have owned since brand new 1 person owner and was running perfect up until this event. The engine failed due to the issues of the recall and now they refuse to replace the engine that it is clearly listed din black and white on their own recall information.

The oil warning light flashed on and of mostly at intersections. We took it in for service. There was coolant/water in the oil. Also, they said it had extremely low oil pressure at idle. The repair shop stated that there was a possibility the car could catch on fire and also the possibility of engine failure.

Low oil pressure indication alerted while driving. Had my vehicle towed for an evaluation. Oil was full but engine failure was detected. No warning whatsoever. No knocking or stalling of engine. Car still runs but I will not drive the vehicle in fear of catastrophic consequences. Now out of a car and still owe $8500 on the loan. 82,000 miles on car. Out of warranty because I'm the second owner. Kia service center reps laughed at me. Infuriating situation. Was told my options were �fix it or don�t� thanks kia.

Catalytic overheating, burnt out the spark plugs and harness. Car lost all power and would not go faster than about 20mph which was very dangerous in traffic. Car had to be towed. All other 2016 kia Soul with 1. 6l I-4 dohc gasoline direct injection (gdi) have been included in recall to fix this issue and this series of VIN should be included and covered as well. Can lead to total engine failure and replacement necessary. Dealership now wants $2000 to fix this issue that may have already done permanent damage to the engine. This would leave us footing the bill for replacement engine that is needed later because of damage done when motor was burning gas too hot. This kia Soul needs to be added to the recall already in insistence.

Complete oil lose, diagnostic indicates engine failure. Vehicle was in motion on a busy interstate 93 in new hampshire. . Oil light began to flash and power lose developed. Navigating the vehicle became difficult and collision was narrowly avoided as the vehicle came to rest in the breakdown lane.

Engine failed during regular daily driving. Spun rod bearing was the diagnosis. Engine was less than 1 quart low, not enough to cause engine seizure.

Sudden engine failure without any warning lights coming on. No slow down or apparent problems. Sudden engine failure in the middle of traffic in pittsburgh area causing a traffic hazard. Vehicle was in motion on a street. Found out this is the number one reported problem with this vehicle. Also issues with the kia sorento engine. Same problem? recall was issued for sorento. I feel this problem should be repaired by kia. This is a road hazard when vehicle stops in middle of traffic with no warning.

My engine failed and needs replacing but their recall doesn't specifically include my model. Even though the same engine with a turbo was included ( mine does not have a turbo) and the smaller non turbo was included! I don't seem to have a voice in this! I believe it should definitely be included in the recall! I still owe money on this car witch will cost more to fix than it is worth! they even extended the warranty on the other models but not mine!.

In 2017 while going straight on highway uphill, my vehicle suddenly started loud pinging and lost power while driving, no warning lights. I pulled over and stopped, kia towed to dealership. Said no oil in engine and engine failed. This was serviced by same dealership 2 weeks prior. Kia replaced that engine. 2019 car in being serviced and after I was told same seal is bad again and was replaced. 2020 car in being serviced and was told same seal was bad a third time. Afraid to drive car when not lubricated due to fire issue with Souls.

Engine failure had tp replace the engine last year . Now again having engine problems. Car stalls when turned on . When sitting at a stop light it sputters when you step on gas it back fires .

Vehicle stopped running without any warning, kia diagnosed it as engine failure requiring new engine and would not consider any portion of the repair cost as its obligation even though it would be warrantied to a first owner well beyond the approximately 74,000 miles it has. Ultimately, gave a few hundred dollars towards a trade. I have attached the disputed case information.

The consumer referenced recall 19v12000 and stated 2014 model year vehicles should be apart of the recall. The consumer requested to be reimbursed for the repair.

Update to complaint files 31 Jan, 2020. 2015 kia Soul with 72004 miles was towed to a repair facility. Upon evaluation, mechanic stated that the piston/rod had fractured and the piston was force into the head. Total engine replacement will be required as the block and heads were severely damaged. This is the exact failure mode that has been described on other kia Soul VIN numbers. This highway is a major route for large tractor trailers. Daughter turned on emergency flasher and exited the car for safety. Several people came by and helped push the car to the side of the road. This part of the highway has a small shoulder with guardrails due to the step drop off. Internet research describes other kia vehicles with the exact engine failure symptoms that resulted in numerous recalls. This vehicle's VIN did not indicate a recall. Mileage is approximately 71,000. Currently unable to get the actual odometer reading due to the electrical system is dead. Can provide the actual mileage when I can get the electrical system powered.

High exhaust temperatures with in the catalytic converter may cause internal engine damage to the pistons and connecting rods which will cause engine failure. The recall said that it would be free of charge if the consumer had this failure and we did. This happen in williamson county on i40.

Was driving my 2013 kia Soul and it threw a rod and my engine locked up. I found out that there was a recall on the catalytic converter. Dealership said they tried to run a diagnostic and it said engine failure after they replaced the recalled catalytic converter.

The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to park on the side of the road. The vehicle was not drivable. The vehicle was towed to local dealer ed voyles kia located at 2145 cobb pkwy se, smyrna, GA 30080, (770) 952-2621, where it was diagnosed with engine failure. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer has not been informed of failure. The failure mileage was 76, 472. Dp.

2015 kia Soul 2. 0 l engine. Engine failure at 83,000 miles. Driving home from work the engine started ticking, within 1 mile it started knocking. I went to pull over in a safe spot off of the road. Before I could pull off the road the engine stalled. I put the vehicle in neutral and coasted off of the road. It would not restart as the engine was seized. The vehicle was towed to a kia dealership in longview texas - peltier kia. The vehicle has been well maintained with all service and oil changes performed at manufacturer specified intervals.

While driving onto interstate Soul did not want to accelerate, engine revved but was not increasing speed, which almost caused an accident. Loud knocking began, but warning no lights were on. Vehicle was towed to local mechanic, who diagnosed engine failure. Vehicle was then towed to engine repair shop. Kia then advised vehicle be towed to kia dealership. In process of getting to dealership.

Tl the contact owns a 2012 kia Soul. While the contact was backing the vehicle into the garage at 5 mph, it completely stalled and the engine seized. The contact did not know if any warning indicators were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to folsom lake kia (12751 folsom blvd, folsom, CA 95630, (916) 846-9825) where it was diagnosed that the engine failed and needed to be replaced. The contact reached out to the manufacturer and was provided with case number: 13236089. The manufacturer offered to cover $2,000 towards the repair, which would make the contact responsible for the remaining $3,700. The failure mileage was 44,000.

At 75k miles the engine failed on my 2017 kia Soul. Specifically, it threw a rod. The car was sold to me as a certified used car, that being the dealer said there was nothing wrong with the car. I took the car into gossett kia in memphis, where I purchased the car for an oil change. I was called later and told the engine was knocking. The service writer told me, "do not worry about this. It is a known problem with the 2016 amd 2017 kia Soul and your car is under warranty. " kia told me the car was not under warranty because I chose to drive for a ride share company and that voided the warranty. The problem is they sold me a car as certified when they knew about the engine failure issue.

My car is very sluggish when I press the gas pedal it feels like my engine does not want to go, and when I'm idling I feel as if my engine will stall unless I press the gas, I have contacted kia regarding this problem and the associate I spoke with said that my vehicle has been recalled under the sc176 campaign ( this was in February 2019) it is now April 14th, and according to kia my car is not officially recalled as of yet. . Basically I feel I'm driving around in a ticking time bomb. . And according to the recall I am, the recall is due to a possible engine failure and fire . . My 2015 kia Soul only has 22,500 miles on it . . . I feel kia is ( no pun intended ) stalling regarding this highly dangerous safety recall.

I noticed a strange clicking or sputtering of my motor and then the engine completely cut off while driving down a city street. Fortunately, I was on a street, turning right at a stop light. . . And not the freeway! found out that the engine blew and that all the oil was sucked up out of my car. My next oil change wasn't due for another 1000 miles. I had no warning lights! no nothing other than non-functioning car. Researched engine failure and found out about the recall on 1. 6 l engines (I have a 2l) but same issue. My mechanic said that he sees this at least once every 2 months in kia's. The 2l needs to be added to the recall! apparently, after research on this site, many people are complaining about the same issue. People could get hurt! what if I was on the freeway??? or, my engine caught fire??? I'm so grateful I'm alive right now.

Sudden loss of oil while in motion on a highway resulted in engine failure.

Fuel efficiency had declined greatly over past month. Car stopped working and had it towed. The kia dealership replaced the started but said the engine had a knocking and needs replaced. Has only had kia work on it and all regular maintenance has been done. Checked the recall and say my car is not covered, yet the engine failed out of the blue with no warning.

Prior to the failure, the engine rattled and the check engine indicator illuminated. The contact called dick hannah kia at 360-342-9104 (located at 3400 ne auto mall dr, vancouver, wa 98662) and was informed that there was a recall. The contact waited for the unknown recall notice and, once it was received, towed the vehicle to the same dealer. The technician stated that the engine failure was due to "oil out", which was not covered by the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a decision was not made on how to proceed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 86,000.

While in motion on the highway I experience engine failure. I was told that my engine threw a rod and punctured a hole in my engine.
