To whom it may concern: I am writing to notify you of the problems I have experienced with my (2022, kia, Soul, VIN - [xxx] ) and to request that you kindly check in on this problem within thirty (30) days of your receipt of this letter. I purchased my vehicle from (reed Nissan of clermont) on or about [xxx]. Approximately (3 months) I began having trouble with (with the engine burning a lot of oil and had to put oil in it in between changes, which I have had a 2015 kia Soul so I was used to this). I have taken my vehicle for the proper amount of oil changes on 12/12/23(first oil change and the oil was black when I went), 1/30/24, 4/8/24, 5/28/24, 7/20/24, and 10/8/24. On the last oil change my car was about 60,284 miles and they found a small oil leak at that point they told me to call kia that it should be under warranty. Kia said there was nothing they could do. While I was trying to figure out what to do and continuing to check my oil which stayed at good levels my engine failed on the highway at 61,104 miles. This is not a very old engine to be failing and Kia Motors are known to do this. As, of now I know there is no known recalls, but there have been for all other kia Souls in the previous years. I would like an investigation into the failure of my engine. This problem of the failure of my engine has cost me $9,826. 55 and being the second owner of this vehicle I had no warranty past the 60,000-mile warranty(which I was not aware of until I called kia) and since I feel the problem existed before I even purchased this car I would like my case to be considered under a warranty or some help from kia. I also feel the car was not inspected properly before being sold as a certified used car. Please contact me on receipt of this letter at the above email or telephone number to arrange a mutually convenient date and time for you to have an opportunity to discuss what can be done to help make this right. Attached are the auto shop car eng information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia),.

Oil consumption. I expressed concern at 140,734 miles to dealership as oil light kept coming on every 1000 t0 1500 miles. Service rep said I needed a new engine, $9. 000. I have just recd notice of an engine class settlement. I am concerned if engine would stop working while driving on interstate, what happens.

When oil changed, been told that there is no oil in car. No warning lights come on. Oil has to be added before next oil change due. Not on recall list but having same problems as other 2016 kia Souls with it burning oil and check engine light coming on for catalytic converter - but does not stay on.

I have a 2016 kia Soul, base model 1. 6l. Attaching recall notice, as I do not know the number (there have been 2 that I know of) after receiving product improvement campaign notice dated 4/6/2021, I notified my kia dealership in which I purchased the vehicle (7301 new lagrange rd, louisville ky 40222) and was told the next available appointment to do the recall update was 2 weeks from when I called, I asked if it was safe to drive since the recall is about engine fires and my engine light was on. I was told it would be fine, this was a "software update" but unfortunately, the rate at which my engine was burning oil, the day before my schedule recall appointment (5/11/21), my engine apparently blew while I was driving on the hwy. Prior to the smoke coming out the back, I heard clicking and then what seemed like something shooting out from the bottom of my car. The oil that I had put in (even though I was not due for an oil change) was leaking as they towed my kia to the dealership. I did not hear back about my car until I reached out for the 3rd time Friday 5/14/21, where the tech told me I needed a replacement engine and Kia Motors will not cover it, stating it was because "there is an open recall for my engine and I had not had the recall completed" I have opened a case with kia customer affairs. Kia service center was unable to give me the date that the recall started. I do know that my car was serviced for a recall prior to this, 3/31/2020, in which there had been so much damage to the catalytic converter, it needed replaced. That was covered under the recall apparently, but for some reason this most recent recall is now showing that it is no longer open according to my VIN on the NHTSA website. So the dealership must have cleared it, but still claims it was not completed so that they are refusing to replace my engine, quoting me $6. 3k should be covered 100%.
Tl the contact owns a 2014 kia Soul. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 20v750000 (engine). The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to pride kia (793 lynnway, lynn, MA 01905) for the recall repair and the dealer inspected the engine compartment and found there was an oil leak in the oil pan. The dealer informed the contact that the vehicle needed to be driven for 1,000 miles before the next oil change to do the oil consumption test. After the vehicle was driven for 900 miles, the failure occurred while the contact was driving 55 mph. The vehicle drove rough and while idling prior to stalling. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer and an oil consumption test was performed. The contact was informed that the vehicle consumed 1 quarts of oil. The dealer informed the contact that the oil change service history receipts were needed. The contact provided 2 years of oil change history receipts, which the dealer deemed was insufficient documentation. The dealer informed the contact that he needed to pay for the engine to be disassembled, and there was no guarantee that the recall would cover the cost of the repair. The dealer offered to cover half the cost of replacing the engine. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 117,000.
Excessive oil consumption. Kia dealer states after performing two oil consumption tests back to back at 1000 miles each that the engine needs replaced. Kia will not replace engine as vehicle has now passed the 60,000 mile engine warranty. Vehicle has 65,000 miles. Dearler states that I have to pay.
My 2015 kia Soul has 71,500 miles on it and has the base 1. 6l engine. Apparently this vehicle has not been recalled yet even though it has the same issues as the other recalled engines regarding burning oil. This car has an ongoing issue with excessive oil consumption between regular 3k mile oil changes. It burns over a quart of oil per 1k miles driven. We have a cpo warranty and extended dealer warranty and we still are unable to get this fixed under the warranty. The dealership is claiming what they've documented is normal oil consumption and they refuse to file a warranty claim. The dealer will not take our word that we've had to put more oil in the car between oil consumption tests and told us we'd have to drive it to the dealer to have them verify the oil level without us putting more in it--therefore drive the car while it has no oil and the dipstick isn't registering it, which is unsafe. We keep getting the run around when this is a known issue with the other 1. 6l engines. Why hasn't this been recalled?.
Yes ive been experienceing a strong gas smell when idle and a fast not normal oil consumption and problems withe the elctric system.

I've been having trouble with burning oil, significant oil lose in a short time, have already done the oil consumption test, I already had the ksds software update, the car started jerking around and slowed down, lost power, it was finally determined they would replace the engine, before the recall actually started. They put another band aide on the problem and instead of replacing the entire engine, they only replaced the block. I was on a trip and the new fix started to heat up, I could smell burning oil, I pulled over and checked the oil and it was 1 quart low in about 378 miles. I have noticed over the last 1 1/2 years that it gets extremely hot on road trips and looses oil fast. I put oil in because I was so far from home and did not want to be stuck in tennessee. I've been going through this crap for almost 2 years. Now they are saying I have to do the oil consumption test all over again, 4 times! I am worried, frightened and paranoid driving this car knowing it could catch on fire at any moment. I filed complaint back in sept. Or oct. And kia is still fighting on doing the right thing and putting my life in danger every day. It made no sense to me that they would only replace the block when they clearly state in the recall letter that they do not know what is causing the problem. They have not identified the defect but they decide to put my life in danger by just replacing the engine block. I am furious and now they won't fix it without 6 more months of me driving the car and being freaked out. My job is business to business sales so I am in my car all day. Please help me! this is terrifying for me. I am older and have bad knees and constantly worried about being caught in the car in a fire and burning to death! help me please! I'm about to have a nervous breakdown. My recall # is 20v750, my first complaint was 19v120. Please help!!.
Engine burnt oil at 10,000 miles - dealership replaced motor, however now having issues with transmission.

It's been burning up oil way too fast. It started with a ticking coming from the motor. I added more oil. And the ticking got worse. Then while driving down the highway there was a loud pop. Something fell off from the bottom of the car. It started smoking then just died on me. Now I'm out a vehicle.
Lost of power . Moter shaking . When accelerating car loses power . Burning oil.
I have a 2015 kia Soul. 2 years ago my check engine light came on had it put on a machine it needed a new catalytic converter and an O2 sensor it was burning oil and smoking. I changed both. 8 months I called kia when there was a recall on the 1. 6 engine because my car was doing exactly what the recall was stating I was informed by kia it wasn't my motor. I was adding 2 quarts of oil a week I was driving down the road and all of a sudden it would not go over 20 mph and started knocking I was taking off from a stop when the engine started knocking. I checked the oil and it was dry and it had oil earlier that day. I received the recall had it towed to bob rohrman kia in lafayette in. The person who worked at the car dealership took it off the tow dolly stated it would not pass the engine test. 2 days later they said it passed the engine test but I need $4600 of work but the engine was ok even though it was burning oil and knocking. I called kia and they said the motor was to be changed no charge to me. Now they are saying it has too many miles and does not qualify for the recall. There was then 140000 on my kia when this all started.
Checked my oil and the dipstick was showing no oil at all, 2 quarts had been added 2 weeks prior. No sign of an oil leak anywhere. 2 days later I started the vehicle and it was idling very hard then died, I waited then started it back up. The engine light came on but it didnt die again. It has since continued to run very rough. This started at about 90,000, oil consumption is ridiculous. There is definitely a problem here, so many people are making complaints as well!!.
2015 kia Soul+ 2. 0 engine. Purchased in 2017 with 24k miles. Began having issues with vehicle at approximately 80k miles. Car began losing oil and I began having oil consumption test done at dealership. Car was losing 1 quart of oil per 1 k miles. Dealership informed me that although maintenance was done as required, they would not replace engine or help since extended warrenty was expired. Driving to work one morning, engine light came on. Vehicle towed 65 miles to dealership. Updated sensor code. Replaced pvc valve. Using 5-30 oil. Still losing oil. This morning, at approx. 92,300, engine light came on again as I was pulling out of my driveway. Very frustrated with costs related to towing. Very frustrated with kia and the dealership since from my research, this is a very real problem with the 2. 0 engines. Can't afford to trade in.
A complaint to kia consumer affairs addressing concerns and issues with my 2013 kia Soul in December 2020. The complaint was regarded to excessive oil consumption, low gas mileage, vehicle stalling and shutting down completely while in motion in the highway and faulty engine parts. I initiated a 2nd complaint about same issues in January 2021. Prior to all this in 2019 kia had a recall for ecu in which I strongly think is the onset beginning how issues I currently have have resonated into current issues leading up till (present). This year 2021, I called kia consumer addressing issues but rep. Stated, there were no engine campaigns or recalls issued at this time and insisted I call the dealership about issues with the vehicle. I called the kia dealership explaining to the service rep. An incident had occurred as I'm driving to work while in motion in ongoing traffic up a highway my car begin to stall like in limp mode and losing powertrain in the engine and shut off completely. While this happened the check engine lights were illuminated as the battery light, oil light and the check engine light were on all at the same time. I tried to start the vehicle but would not start. I called for 911 assistance for immediate help due to car shutting off on me in ongoing traffic. The state agent did not come in time, so dot happened to drive passed and slowed down and come back to help push my vehicle to the right side of the highway to safety. Eventually, 911 agent came and I explained everything to him as I called for roadside asst. To come and tow my car to the nearest auto shop. I phone the kia dealership the same day of this incident and explained everything, kia rep. Said that's because you show a recall open on your vehicle and need to bring the vehicle in for repairs. Ecu knock sensor was told by service mgr. This was the reason car shut down on me. Disappointed with kia.

Had knock soft updated. Changed plugs at 82,000 miles. Plugs show oil being burned. Oil goes low. Now leak. Omg. Recall the 2. 0 engine. Have a 2015 and 2016. Both having same problems.
Tl- the contact owns a 2014 kia Soul. The contact stated that while driving at 35 mph, there was a burning oil smell, noises coming from the engine, and the vehicle would not accelerate as it stalled. No warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to fred anderson kia of raleigh (9209 glenwood Ave, raleigh, nc 27617) where the contact was informed that the vehicle could not be diagnosed as their computer systems were down. The contact also stated he received a recall notification with NHTSA campaign number 20v750000 (engine)and the recall could not be serviced as the kia dealers computer systems were down. The vehicle was not repaired and was still at the dealer. The contact then contacted the kia manufacturer, whom confirmed that their computer systems were down and no further assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 157,245. Tp.
Have burnt 5 quarts of oil in the last 30 days during normal use. Oil light has never come on to indicate low oil.
Last month I took my car to the dealership for an ecu update which kia is calling a product improvement campaign for the cars computer system to put it into limp home mode, now a month later while on my way home from work when I turned onto a street 2 nights in a row the oil light was flashing but went off after I made it through the turn, and I checked the oil level the second night and the dipstick had little to no visible oil on it but the oil light still does not illuminate when driving or when idiling only when turning with momentum, but the 2. 0 engines are known to destroy themselves due to rod bering damage and that update they did served to five and early alert as to when it detects knock but these engines are also known to burn oil and the 2014-2015 model years are recalled for engine fires but kia should recall all these engines since they burn oil and are dangerous to drive because the oil light is not illuminating when the oil is critically low and now engine damage may already be present on top of the known defect in these engines.
Since first oil change done with delray florida kia I complauof kicking sounds in engine loss of power oil burning smells occasionally. I was told each time they put on computer n nothing wrong. I bought new at 11/2014 now oil lights engine lights flashing on irrationally car consuming oil no leaks just eating iol now 2-3 qts in 2 months knocking getting louder but quiets some after oil change but loss of power and knocking persists. Oil is scary how much it's consumes I have been complains of this issue for first oil change. Was told by dealer no need to change oil more than 2x per year but I still do regularly 3-4,000 or 3 months. I feel damage has been done to car and I am seeking new engine replacement. Dealers never did identify issue said no codes going off. But I noticed it from beginning. Once this year oil was changed I took to get oil done and they said oil was almost empty. I never got oil light. Then nor engine light. The engine light when on the day I took in for oil change. They said the engine could have ceased. I strongly feel I have kept up w maintenance but I feel I got a bad car from the start only to be dismissed each time I complained to dealer. Also there seems to be an electrical issue blows light bulbs constantly and had motor in window replace w stater under warranty most driving is local but many hwy.
My vehicle has been having issues with the engine for months now. I have had to have parts replaced that clearly are related to the engine , can not drive it after having it towed to the kia dealership . They corrected two recalls , but did not check for problems with my engine. They did a dx test however did not drive it to clearly see it still has same issues as when I brought it in , but worse than before now. My vehicle is part of the campaign 20v750 with code sc200. My vehicle is also burning oil , two times I was told by a mechanic that they are sure it has to do with engine issues. I called them back and addressed my concerns after leaving with it the same problems as before and was treated as if I was making up the issues I am having with the vehicle . Due to I am the 2nd owner they did not want to use my warranty I have on the engine to repair or even check into the engine for problems . Now I am having to wait until the manager comes back to work in two days to get a resolution, I can not afford to keep paying for tow charges for the 2nd time.
I have had to replace my catalytic converter twice within the last year due to engine failure which is causing the catalytic converter to become clogged. The second time this happened, I was driving on the freeway and my vehicle began to lose power on an uphill portion of a bridge. The vehicle then stalled, forcing me to pull over on a narrow shoulder. After being towed to safety by the chp, I had the vehicle towed to my mechanic who informed me that the engine is burning huge amounts of oil which in turn is causing the catalytic converter to become clogged. My mechanic informed me that I would need to replace the engine to solve the underlying problem, as there is clearly engine damage causing the exhaust to contain large amounts of soot and unburned oil. I have maintained this vehicle fastidiously, and the vehicle has just under 150,000 miles on the odometer.
In may 2019 I had a repair done due to a recall on the catalytic converter in October 2020 barely 1 1/2 years later the catalytic converter went out again. As it was out of warranty 1yr it wasn't covered. I had it replaced at my cost a part that should have lasted 10plus years only to have my car stall as I was driving to work not even a month later. I had it towed directly to kia dealership where it is still currently. They said the engine is bad and needs to be replaced. Kia states that good will doesn't extend the engine replacement due to the fact that the catalytic converter was out of warranty. This vehicle stopped in the middle of the highway with lights flashing and a rumbling of the car; thankfully I was able to restart it and move over so that we weren't hit as my daughter was in the vehicle with me. I have had to change coils, spark plugs have multiple cans of oil available as it burned through oil in between oil changes as though there was a leak. No light ever indicated that it was low we just had to continuously check it for oil and it would usually be more than 1 quart low. These problems all stared after the supposed fix in may 2019. This vehicle is a safety hazard and should be recalled completely.
Recall #176: according to the recall, there can be piston damage from the overheating and misfiring as result of a bad ecu. I recently had this recall repair completed but the dealer is unwilling to acknowledge the possible engine damage and check deeper. Currently, I am burning about 1 quart of oil every 200 miles. Obviously, this is a problem. My contention is that the cause may be from piston damage originating from the original recall and I am currently still at risk of severe damage and/or danger. I do not know the next steps in getting the dealer to investigate the cause of increased oil consumption.
Tl-the contact owns a 2013 kia Soul. The contact stated that while driving 60 mph, the contact depressed the accelerator pedal as the vehicle decreased in speed. The contact veer to the exit ramp exit the highway. Pulled into a gas station waited for a couple of minutes attempted to depressed the accelerator pedal which failed to accelerate past 50 mph. The vehicle then stalled as all warning light illuminated. The contact mentioned that odor appeared from the exhausted pipe. The vehicle was towed to the contact residents, then towed from her resident to the dealer evergreen kia 9205 s western Ave, chicago, IL 60643 (773) 779-4281 where it was diagnosed that the oil consumption damaged the piston rods and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact mentioned NHTSA campaign number: 19v120000 engine, engine and engine cooling as a possible solution to the failure however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that no recalls was under the VIN. The failure mileage was approximately 103,000. Ck.
Tl the contact owns a 2014 kia Soul. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 20v750000 (engine) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the check engine warning light illuminated and the vehicle loss motive power and hesitated to accelerator above 50 mph. The vehicle was taken to kia country of charleston (2361 savannah hwy, charleston, SC 29414 (843) 573-2300) where it was diagnosed that the vehicle had oil consumption failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact managed to drive the vehicle to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed a second time and determined that the catalytic converter failed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA to file a complaint. The failure mileage was 175,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
Two weeks after receiving a letter from Kia Motors that the expectations of oil maintenance has changed from what it was when I originally purchased my vehicle. I notice that my car burned oil quickly and even accused the dealer of not putting enough oil in my vehicle at oil change intervals but I never seen oil leaks on my drive way. While driving, my vehicle suddenly would not accelerate in mid traffic. Took to the dealer and my catalytic converter needs to be replaced. Come to find out that the oil that I thought was buring was actually getting into my cat. Converter which caused the damage. My vehicle has less than 100k miles. Reported to the kia consumer assistance for recall and after 4 weeks of going back and forth with them on claim number 13810354, their response was that they could not reach me and denied my claim. I have actual dates and time that I have called and reached out to them to get a assistance. I was constantly told that they could not reach their dpsm and ecr to get approval. My case was closed. I find out that other owners are having a similar problem with their kia Souls. Please help. This appears to be a manufacture defect causing the oil to burn and destroying the catalytic converter in these vehicles. My vehicle has been at the bowie Kia Motors service station for 4 weeks while I was waiting on a response from kia consumer assistance. Called kia consumer assistance today and was told of the denial for repair assistance.
Tl the contact owns a 2014 kia Soul. The contact stated the check engine warning light remained illuminated. The contact inspected the vehicle and found that the engine was consuming oil prematurely. The contact also found that the catalytic converter was overheating due to the premature oil consumption. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The mechanic retrieved failure code: p0420 catalyst system efficiency below threshold. The manufacture was contacted and informed of the failure. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 19v120000 (engine, engine and engine cooling). The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 106,000.
The engine in my 2014 kia Soul + began knocking while I was driving on a highway. Within seconds of hearing the knocking, I was unable to drive the car and the car dangerously slowed doown on a highway with fast moving vehicles. I pulled over to the shoulder to find my oil had burned and my engine would no longer start. My oil was changed exactly 7 days before the oil was complelty burned out of the oil tank. There was no indication that there was a problem until my cars engine was no longer able to turn over due to lack of oil. Aaa came to pick me up on the side of the road and drove my car 60 miles to my mechanic before a kia dealership could take it. My car is now at kia, and they are refusing to replace my engine. There has been many complaints about this engine in this specific type of car. I am hoping that kia will admit to the engine and oil tank being faulty and replace mine free of charge. There should be a recall on these engines and the manufacturer should pay for the damages.
Lifter tapping and burning oil. Took it to kia of savannah around 2000 miles and they said nothing was wrong with it, even oil was full which I know is incorrect had car checked out by mechanic before I took it there.
My daughter was driving her 2014 kia Soul 2. 0 gdi home from work this afternoon when she said without warning the engine hesitated then started knocking, she made it home but at great risk to her safety. I checked the oil and it did not show on the stick. I had to add 3. 5 qts. Engine continues to knock very loudly and has no power. Oil was changed only two months ago. There are no visible leaks and there is every indication that the engine has burned the oil. After doing some research I see that there has been numerous recalls for kia engines because of engine failure and oil buring. I don't understand why this particular engine has not been recalled? how many complaints does it take? now she has a undrivable car that is also not paid for. Warranty has also expired.
Recall 19v120000; sc176 excessive oil consumption. Manufacturer will not honor warranty and is aware of problem. I am being told costs involved with this issue are not warranty and to be paid out of pocket despite known problem.
Kia and dealer aware of this vehicle consuming excessive amounts of oil which could catastrophically cause engine failure with a high risk of driver/passenger death if vehicle runs out of oil. Kia is unwilling to replace/repair/fix the problem. This lack of acknowledgement by booth the auto manufacturer and the dealer is just cause for negligence and may result in death or fatal injury. The vehicle is at 65,000 miles and has had two oil consumption tests performed by spitzer kia, cleveland, ohio at 1000 mile intervals. The problem is well known to the auto manufacturer and they will not intervene with replacement. Engine fire could cause accident, and or death to occupants and or other victims if engine runs out of oil and creates excessive heat. Warning lights do not illuminate to warn driver and occupants of danger. A law firm suggests reaching out to NHTSA to resolve.
