36 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2016 Kia Motor Soul

Failure Date: 07/30/2020

Engine loses 3 quarts of oil between scheduled oil changes. Started at around 70k miles and is getting worse (now at 90k miles). There is no indication of low oil or problem in the driver controls. No smoke from burning oil. This is a safety hazard as the engine can die suddenly with no warning. I have two of these cars and both have the same problem. This should be investigated as there are many of these cars on the road and it is clearly a design flaw.

39 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2015 Kia Motor Soul

Failure Date: 07/02/2020

2015 kia Soul + has just been checked by our dealership service department for not accelerating and shifting properly. Dealer performed transmission service at 106,768 miles on June 30, 2020, and this did not clear the issues, 2nd service inspectrion on July 1, 2020 resulted in service department saying the issues are with a plugged catalytic converter, which has been a potential contributor to the ongoing NHTSA investigation of all kia Soul models with the 2. 0l nu engine. We also noted excessive oil consumption to the service department on multiple occasions, but they have declined starting an oil consumption test. Neither the dealer nor extended warranty company will cover repairs, and allowed us to leave the dealership with the vehicle in potentially unsafe condition, with no remedy other than us paying for parts and labor to replace the catalytic converter. I want to have my complaint added to the ongoing investigation, and can provide and encourage other kia Soul owners to also add their similar issues,m which are well documented on line in forums and social media.

40 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Soul

Failure Date: 07/01/2020

Whenever I start up my car, the engine seems to knock. I took it to the kia dealership 3 times and they insisted I just needed an oil change. I finally took it to a mechanic in my neighborhood who finally told me that I have an oil consumption issue. When I went back to the dealership, they refuse to fix it because their is not a recall on these vehicles. I have children and it is very dangerous for them to be in a defective vehicle and not know when it's finally gonna give out. Please recall these vehicles immediately!!.

41 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2015 Kia Motor Soul

Failure Date: 06/18/2020

I purchased my vehicle certified used from enterprise rent a car. A little over 30,000 miles I began having engine oil burn issues in which I was losing engine oil quickly and with no discernible leaks after bringing it to a mechanic. I have learned from researching other complaints online that this is a problem many with this model vehicle are experiencing and that dealerships are often telling consumers who voice their concern that they must not have handled maintenance correctly. I have since been keeping oil on hand to refill my oil somewhat regularly and checking the oil more frequently as this issue apparently may cause an engine to seize with little warning and no oil warning light, as mine does not go off when it otherwise should when I am ridiculously low. The rate of burn is inconsistent and I just had another surprise to that effect and I am worried that while I still owe money on the vehicle I may not be able to afford replacing the engine myself and am interested in why this hasn't resulted in a manufacturer recall?.

42 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Soul

Failure Date: 06/01/2020

I first started noticing that my vehicle was burning oil faster than normal in Aug. 2018. I took it to midas to get my oil change and explained to them that my car was burning or leaking oil because I had to put more oil in my car. However there is no leaking no where. Midas told me to come in sooner for my oil change and that's what I did. Then in late part of 2019 and earlier 2020 I will be driving and my car would stall and act like it is going to shut off. In June 2020 I was driving on the highway and the car started slowing down and losing power. I pulled over and waited a little bit. I thank god I wasn't in an accident. My engine then started knocking once I got home and check engine light came on. The code was my O2 sensor. I got that replaced but my engine kept knocking. So I took it to fort wayne kia be a two repair shops stated that it something wrong with the engine, and kia dealership said it wasn't my engine knocking it was the catalytic converter that is bad and causing the knocking/noise. But that's part of my exhaust system and have nothing to do with the noise coming from my engine, and burning oil. Of course that piece supposedly isn't covered under my warranty. Kia said it was going to cost over $2000 to replace the part but never explained why my car is burning oil so quickly. I have purchased this vehicle brand new thinking I wouldn't have the same issues that come with buying a used car but nope. I need my vehicle to get around and work. Why isn't kia understanding that in the 2014 kia Soul + 2. 0 liter there is a major malfunction that needs to be fixed.

43 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Soul

Failure Date: 05/20/2020

My car was brought in for the recall and they told us it was fine but I noticed it offen got hot and it liked to burn oil or leak oil I had to put oil in each week and one day om my way home the motor blow a rod and this was only a couple months after they checked it and said it was fine the car only had 125000 miles on it and I had to pay 1700 dollars for a new motor and I'm still waiting on it to arrive I don't think I should have to cover the cost of the motor or the repairs because it falls in the recall list our car had all the problems that the recall was listing. I would like to here back from someone on my concerns.

44 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Soul

Failure Date: 05/15/2020

Car wasn't getting power to go up hills or accelerate on highway, and burning thourgh oil. Took it to kia dealer ship and was told catalyst converter needs to be replaced. There seems to be a lot of the same model cars having the same exact problems as me.

45 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Soul

Failure Date: 05/11/2020

My kia Soul 2014 since March has been consuming enormous amount of oil had it checked no leaks. I had the oil changed on Feb 28th 2020 and then by the end of March nothing on the dip stick had to put 3 more courts in, not even 4000 miles. Took it in to change the oil two days later, the next day April 1st went to maryland checked oil when we came back, down just a little. Checked again two weeks later down half and put oil in. On may 2nd checked the oil before my husband went to asheville for work and no oil on the dip stick added oil and took to kia on the 4th. Started a oil consumption test on may 4th by may 11th was half way in between low and full so I went to kia and they topped it off. They also said it is a know issue but no recall and they have three vehicles in the shop right now waiting for new engines. They could quote me on an engine or I would just have to keep adding oil. It is shameful that they now about this issue but will not correct it.

46 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Soul

Failure Date: 04/01/2020

Tl the contact owns a 2014 kia Soul. The contact stated that his engine consumed excessive amounts of oil without warning, while driving at various speeds. The contact stated that he would add at least 16 oz of oil into the engine every 500 miles. The contact had taken the vehicle to kia of old saybrook (275 middlesex Ave, old saybrook, CT 06475) where he initially believed that the oil failure was due to NHTSA campaign number: 20v750000 (engine) however, the dealer informed him that the excessive oil consumption was not related to the recall. The dealer also informed him that they would perform an oil consumption test which confirmed that the engine was consuming excessive amounts of oil however, since the vehicle was not under recall, the dealer offered no further assistance. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and informed him that the VIN was not subjected to a recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

47 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Soul

Failure Date: 03/05/2020

After multiple attempts at the shop, the kia has been burning oil. There is no smoke or leaks. A compression test was not done at the original inspection of the car, and there is no oil in the car after about 500 miles. This engine has been burning oil since 85000 miles and there is "nothing" that kia can do for our issue. Thus, in line with other complaints about this issue there should be something done for the engine replacement. This is a known issue for the other engines, but the 2. 0l engine is not under recall. . . . Yet. This is a very serious issue and a general consumer should not have to monitor oil consumption of an engine at 60-80k miles. There is something wrong with the engines and it could be a real concern for safety.

48 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2016 Kia Motor Soul

Failure Date: 03/04/2020

Was driving car and it lost power while on highway. Causing cars to swerve to avoid hitting me. After going to shop found out it was the catalytic converter. Car was also burning oil and misfiring. Had the 3 and 4 coil relpaced ,spark plugs , but still not able to figure out what us causing oil to burn. Car had regular oil changes. Kia basically said that after I fix the coils car would be fine . Well it's not still doing the same thing. I was informed that it just needs a new engine. Kia has refused to honor warranty.

49 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Soul

Failure Date: 02/20/2020

Engine burning oil. No signs of leakage or "blue smoke". Usually have to put in between 3 and 5 quarts of oil between oil changes. Kia won't fix the problem, even though there have been many other complaints about this issue. I bought the car used, didn't know it had an issue. Oil got dangerously low within 30 days of owning the car. That's when I found out it was burning oil. It has 11,0000 miles on it as of this compliant. Issues started for me at around 100,000 miles. When I took the car into the kia dealer, they said that the previous owner had brought it in to have an oil consumption test done. Kia dealer said engine needs to be replaced.

50 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Soul

Failure Date: 02/15/2020

Regarding NHTSA campaign #19v120000, I reported to kia that my vehicle is excessively burning oil, they've advised me my VIN doesn't apply to this particular recall. In between oil changes I'm adding 5qts of oil because the oil is just mia. There's no leakage and no smoke from the vehicle. Although I'm losing oil there is no warning light to advise of any issue. I can generally detect I'm low on oil when vehicle is sluggish on an incline, upon checking the dip stick has no oil. As a precautionary measure I'm requesting that my VIN number be added to the current recall. Last oil change was 01/03/2020; I just purchased a 5 quart container 02/15/2020 and had to add 2 quarts. My daily driving consists of about 16 miles a day; drive my daughter to school and myself to work, local. Too many complaints pertain to this very issue, how much longer please?.

51 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Soul

Failure Date: 02/10/2020

Noticed after getting an oil change not even a month later the car was low on oil. Complained to kia dealership that they didn't fill my oil up when I got an oil change. Brought it back in for a top off and it did the same thing again. Monitored the oil consumption for 2-3 months coming to the conclusion that it was burning 2quarts every 2 weeks. I have documentation where I have gotten the oil topped off every other week.

52 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Soul

Failure Date: 02/07/2020

My car has been burning oil in an abnormal rate. It begin at the beginning of 2020. I always took my car for recommend maintenance to the kia of carson in California. Now about every month I have to top off the oil. An estimate of less than 600 miles per month. Sometimes when I am at a light the car will shake a bit. Also if I use the ac the car will shake a bit as well it did not do that before. If am driving I don't feel that shakes. The first time that I noticed something was going on I was at stop light and my car shaked and felt like it was going to turn off. After that it shakes if am too long at a light but not too hard.

53 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Soul

Failure Date: 01/28/2020

In early 2016, my vehicle began burning oil at an alarming rate. November the same year I ended up having to get my engine replaced at about 120,000 miles. In 2019, the same issue began to occur. I have to put oil in my car multiple times every week. A family member who works for kia brought our attention to a recall on the catalytic converter that can cause converter and engine damage due to overheating. On Jan 28 2020 I took the kia Soul to stevens kia in harrisonburg va for the recall. We explained the issues we were having and pulled up the information about the recall possibly causing engine damage. They said they were unaware of that issue and that they don't believe it would cause the engine to burn off oil. Kia's information specifically says that it can cause the vehicle to overheat, burn off oil, and ultimately lead to engine failure. I still have to add oil to my vehicle multiple times during the week as it is damaged and hasn't been repaired. It is getting to the point where I'm scared it's going to leave me stranded somewhere or worse. I need to know what I have to do for kia to address the situation without contradicting their own information on the recall.

54 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Soul

Failure Date: 12/26/2019

My car is losing oil somewhere. Checked no leaks. Oil changed regularly and on time. Oil dip stick shows one quart low refilled. Drove car approximately 6 miles and light started flashing quickly. Parked checked oil and is once again low. No burnt oil smell but it has to be going somewhere.

55 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Soul

Failure Date: 12/18/2019

My kia Soul is burning oil every 1,000 excessively. Kia says it isn't burning that much. My dealer thinks it is. My car had the oil light come on in December. Received an oil change. February comes to start my consumption tests. My dipstick reads low level. I started 3 tests and they all 3 came up with different readings but burning oil at a rapid rate. I did testing each 1,000 miles. The 2nd test my car burnt a quart. I do think my car is burning at a rapid rate. It is a 2014 kia Soul with 94,000 miles. I bought brand new, only owner is me from my dealership.

56 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Soul

Failure Date: 12/12/2019

Been getting regular oil changes on track. And on time. Last 2 oil changes I been noticing oil levels dropping low after 1000 to 1500 miles driven. No leaks no burning smell. Engine would be burning the oil. Twice kia never noticed anything wrong. Now driving down highway engine light came on. Heard klacking aound and slowed down. Car lost acceleration for 5 minutes. After pulling out the highway it started sputtering acting like it was going to stall out like it had low oil. Again it was low. Added oil. This was after 800 miles driving. Still no leaks. Towed it to kia garden grove California. They said I needed new engine. Oil filter had metal shavings said it Sould be already in engine. Quoted me 12k. Car is 2014 and has 115k miles. It's worth 6k. Looking at everyone's else CO plained you can clearly see an oil engine problem that might produce fires or engine breaking. Possible lubrication issue around 75k miles and on. There should be a recall on the engine.

57 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Soul

Failure Date: 12/05/2019

On 05/07/2019, I took my car to joe myers kia for a repair in regards to safety recall sc176. My catalytic converter was replaced and my car was returned to me on 05/13/2019. According to safety recall sc176 bullet 4, this recall was to prevent excessive exhaust temperatures, which could cause damage to the piston connection rod. Damage to this rod could puncture the engine block, allowing oil to escape and potentially contact a hot exhaust surface. Weeks after my car was repairs I noticed that my car was now burning oil at an excessive rate, and I was now replacing oil every 1,000 to 1500 miles. This issue continued from June through October. I had the car examined for oil leaks, but none could be found. After my 10/06/2019 oil and general service, it was suggested that there's a chance that oil was getting into the engine block. On 12/05/2019, my engine began to misfire and knock loudly while traveling on the highway at 70 mph. After getting the car off of the highway and into a gas station I checked the dip stick. It indicated that the engine did not have any oil in it, but the oil light never came on. I also had an oil service in October and had not done much driving since then. On 12/07/19 I towed my car to my mechanic and after examination informed me that pistons 3 and 4 were misfiring and were damaged. I contacted joe myers kia, as they were the ones that recently repaired my car under recall sc176, and was instructed to bring the car to the nearest kia dealership for examination. On 12/10/19 I towed the car to fredy kia for an engine diagnosis and following day I received a call notifying me that my 1. 6l engine threw a piston rod and I would have to get the engine replaced. The Soul only has 109,775 miles on it, is serviced regularly, and barely averages over 12,000 miles annually.

58 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2016 Kia Motor Soul

Failure Date: 11/15/2019

I was getting dinner, and I admit that I pulled out rather swiftly and punched the gas, cause people in my area are very aggressive, however having the engine stall, should not have happened,or should I say my engine took a turn for the worst and stopped working for good. So here I was stalled in the middle of a busy hwy and people were honking and going around me. This was not a spot where I could just pull over. So I pushed the car to the next perking lot. I almost got hit initially and almost broke both my ankles trying to push this over sized toy vehicle. Towed it to the shop and I got a $6000 bill for a clunked engine. Now,prior to all this I didn't do many oil changes, however, how could I when the oil kept burning up. This always puzzled me as to why I kept having to put oil in it,with no visible oil leaks. I think that this engine also had a problem similar to the 192vwhatever engine. I think I had 130,000 miles on this vehicle, but I had no other problems with it. It may have had a lot of where and tear on it,but it should never have done this much damage. I think the,"NHTSA" should do some investigating on this and I will get to the bottom of this for everyone that had this problem.

59 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2016 Kia Motor Soul

Failure Date: 10/30/2019

2016 kia Soul high oil consumption now I am losing power it will stall at 60 down to 40 while driving on the highway . Was told my car was not recalled for the same problems of other recalls pertaining to this car. When it was under warranty they refused to do anything now at 83,400 they told me that my warranty has ended .

60 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Soul

Failure Date: 10/17/2019

The engine died with no warning on the highway. Had to be towed to mechanic, where they found there was no oil in the engine, but no oil leak. Must now replace entire engine or buy a new car. Car has had regular oil changes (died on a Thursday, next oil change had been scheduled for Saturday) and an extra quart of oil was added 2 weeks prior to engine failure due to low oil levels (we chalked this up to extra driving for vacation). Mechanic found no leak at previous oil changes. As stated by other owners with this problem, it seems like something in the engine is malfunctioning causing oil to burn off and the engine to overheat and die. The car was very hot/burn smelling when I got it off the road, to the point where I was afraid to sit in it for fear of explosion. My mechanic agrees this is a kia malfunction and has agreed to keep my engine in storage for further claim investigation. As kia has a history or catching fire, I believe this issue is worthy of an investigation and recall. Please help!.

61 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Soul

Failure Date: 10/15/2019

I took my vehicle to kia for two recalls and a performance issue with the engine; specifically, a loss of power and increased oil consumption. Kia performed an ecu upgrade and replaced the catalytic converter related to recall# sc176. The recall also identifies internal engine damage to the pistons that result from overheating caused by high catalytic converter temperatures which was addressed by the ecu upgrade. I inquired about coverage for the damage to the engine; however I was told that the engine damage would not be covered by kia. An oil consumption test was performed and kia documented that 1 quart of oil had been consumed in the 1,000 elapsed miles (which exceeds the manufacturer's specification for normal rate of consumption), I was told that the engine would need to be replaced, and kia would not cover the cost. I was very surprised as the issues that I am having with the car are exactly the very same issues described in the recall.

62 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Soul

Failure Date: 10/14/2019

Tl- the contact owns a 2012 kia Soul. The contact stated that while her parents were driving approximately 60 mph whent the vehicle suddenly stalled. There were no warning lights illuminated. The dealer stated the vehicle's engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and informed the contact that due to the diagnostic code shown for the vehicle being different from the one mentioned in the class action lawsuit the vehicle would not be covered. The manufacturer opened case number: 13404459. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000. The VIN was invalid. Gl.

63 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2015 Kia Motor Soul

Failure Date: 10/07/2019

2015 kia Soul burning oil, no oil light comes on, vehicle has shut engine off 2 different times while I was driving it. I took to dealership they said they were having trouble with the piston rings failing and oil burning. Did oil consumption test after driving for 900 miles the the dip stick did not register any oil on it. I bought this as a pre owned certified vehicle with about 600 miles on it when I purchased it . The warranty company that warrants kia pre owned vehicles is refusing to cover the the claim. The oil burning problem started around 56,000 miles. The car stopped running while I was driving on two different occasions.

69 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Soul

Failure Date: 08/01/2019

Engine burned up all the oil and seized up, metal shaving were found in oil pan. We noticed thick black smoke coming from the tailpipe and got to the dealership as it stopped working, same issue that's happened to the motors that were already recalled, but no recall on this VIN.

70 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2016 Kia Motor Soul

Failure Date: 07/27/2019

The kia Soul 1. 6 engine has been recalled due to oil consumption related to excessive catalytic converter heat. I submit to you that the investigation needs to be expanded to include the 2. 0 engine. I believe specifically related to the special edition cars that have the larger sized wheels standard wheel is 16" these come with 18" and I believe that these vehicles are subject to the same issue as the 1. 6 due to the engine working harder to provide power to run the 18" wheels. I have so far suffered extreme oil loss on 4 occasions. They have done oil consumption tests and required me to bring my vehicle in at my inconvenience a great number of times. With one time having th oil down by 1 quart. But outside of this I have had it go down on me outside of these tests on those 4 occasions so that the dip stick barely had oil on it and my engine was tapping. Only once did the check engine light come on and stay on and another time I happened to see it blink once. This extreme oil loss on these special edition 2. 0 vehicles will lead to the same issues as experienced on the 1. 6 engine. And so far as I am concerned I am now paying monthly payments on a vehicle that must have internal damage as a result of this manufacturing error. Please consider further review of these vehicles as they relate to the 2. 0 engine and special editions with larger wheels. If you would like I do have a video of the oil level on my dipstick from this past Saturday that I can also send. Please believe me this is a recurring dangerous situation that is being overlooked> I have a 2010 kia Soul which does nto have the new technology and ive had no issues with that car and it has about 150k miles. I also run a scion xb that I have maintained and it has over 220k miles. My cars are cared for and ive never seen anything like this before.
