Diesel Engine Problems of Kia Motor Soul

I own a 2014 kia Soul plus with the 2. 0l engine with approx 95,xxx miles. One morning the engine starting making a loud clatter (sounding like a diesel engine) and had a sudden loss of power while driving on a county road near my home. My daughter was driving the car and was able to turn around and return home without incident. I later took the car to a local repair shop where upon further investigation they determined the engine had spun a rod bearing causing internal engine damage. There were no symptoms or issues with the engine leading up to this failure. Through research I later discovered the many issues kia has had with this engine related to sudden engine failures.

Last summer we were on vacation, driving from texas to kansas. While driving on the highway, we noticed that the engine started sounding like a diesel engine. I pulled over to the shoulder, shut the engine off and checked the oil. I noticed that we had spontaneously lost oil. No leaks or anything. We pulled into an auto parts store and purchased 3 quarts of 5w-20 synthetic castrol gtx synthetic oil, I added the oil and the rattling stopped. Now the engine again has done the same thing and now its in need of expensive repairs because the engine has a piston rod knock due to spontaneous oil loss.
