Thursday I had a check engine light come on and called kia service and they said as long as engine light is not flashing I will be ok to drive it so they scheduled my appt. For the following Monday. Saturday I was driving 45mph on a busy road and my car starting making ticking noise & lost power and steering. I smelled a chemical smell similar to gasoline. I had my oil changed every 3000 miles for the life of this car. Connecting rod cap to piston rod came out of my engine. My kia is @ dealership waiting for consumer affairs process. Dist. Mgr has already declined repair. Now waiting for escalation dept to contact me. Its now been 19 days. My kia is a 2014 with the 2. 0 engine. My son has a photo of the cap sticking out of the engine. (I will try to upload once I get it. ) why does the recall for the engine not pertain to all engines when the same problems are happening? and why has kia not sent everyone letters notifying of the recall especially when a crash or engine fire is possible? is this safe and acceptable when human life is at risk? or do we wait for the first person to die?.

Loud clacking noise and lost of power ## VIN passed ## kia Soul 2014 ##.
In motion going about 50 miles per hour when vehicle made a kind of crackling noise and felt a slight sputtering like it was going to stall. Pulled over immediately to check engine. After checking fluids while vehicle was off started vehicle again. Immediately heard even louder crackling and clanking noises. Turned it off again. Tried again to crank and switched into different gear to see if noise changed and it got quieter when changing heard but then when right back to loud noises. After letting it sit that afternoon had to drive it home a short distance but did so very carefully trying not to strain the engine. Then had it towed the next day to local dealership. Engine issue, broken connecting rod clanking around in engine damaged the engine block. After researching I found there was a recall for this issue but that my kia Soul plus with the 2. 0l engine was not included. I scoured the web looking for other plus or exclaim Soul owners with similar issues and there was no shortage. I think the 2. 0 l engine needs to be included with this recall issue. Thank you for your time.

Kia Soul all of sudden had engine light on and acceleration started to decrease for 5 minutes. Car then went back to normal but engine had klanking sound. After slowing down off highway, clacking sound was louder and engine started to sputter and stall out. When car turned on it engine had loud clangs. Once towed to dealer, dealer said metal shavings was found in oil filter and required a new engine be installed for 12k. This happened at 115,000 miles just outside the powertrain warrenty.
Engine losing power engine stalls low oil for the last year tapping sound from engine. My family and I feel very unsafe driving this car it's parked in the garage. We've heard about the fires about the breakdowns the car freezing up and we will not drive it. We need help getting this issue resolved. 101,000 mi on the car. Please reach out to us if you can. 6514926532 muskyhuntrer2@gmail. Com this is lisa's father I'm trying to help her get this car repaired james jackson thank you.
I had the original 2. 0l engine throw a rod even though I stayed up with its routine maintenance schedule. So I replaced it with a used motor that had 30000 less mi on it than the 65000 the original motor had on it. On the second motor the 1st piston disintigrated and fell into the oil pan. This was proceded by a ticking sound and eventually turned into a loud knocking sound and a intermediate loss in power, like a partially clogged catalytic converter. I highly recommend an investigation into the 2. 0l engine as it is doing the exact same thing as the 1. 6l engine was doing.
Tl the contact owns a 2013 kia Soul. While operating the vehicle, the contact heard a clanking noise under the front of the vehicle. The cause of the failure was not determined. High country kia (4004 e. Main st, farmington, nm) was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 31,000.
I own a 2014 kia Soul + model. Today while I was driving around 35 mph down a local city street, I started to lose power in traffic. I thought I had some bad gas or something. About a minute or two later, the oil light illuminated. I got a little nervous while driving, so I threw on my hazard lights. I was about a 1/4 mile from the nearest service station (the closest place to evaluate the situation). I proceeded cautiously, driving around 15 mph, to the service station when I started to hear a tapping sound. I became overly concerned then. I made it to the service station, popped the hood, and checked the dip stick. The oil appeared to be at the proper level. Just to be on the safe side, I purchased a quart of oil and poured half of the quart into the car. I got back into the car and started it up. It was still tapping. I was located about a mile and a half from kia atlanta south. So I decided to try to drive to the dealership. Upon pulling out of the service station's parking lot, my car stalled then shut down. The battery light and other service lights popped on. I coasted you the side of the road and called roadside assistant. My kia Soul has approximately 75,553 miles on it. I get my oil changed regularly. I was confused as to why my car was malfunctioning like this. There no signs of smoke or anything. My car just stopped. I had to wait 2. 5 hours on a tow truck. The guy towed my car to kia atlanta south in jonesboro, georgia. The service department was closed. I have to wait until in the morning to find out what's going on. While waiting for the towed, I discovered that there were many cases similar to my current situation. It's strange that there are many others feeling my pain. Now, I'm awaiting on the dealership's verdict.

While driving to a family function in kentucky our 2012 kia Soul started making a very loud clacking noise as it tried to maintain the 55mph speed limit while going uphill. When we pulled off we checked oil levels and checked the noise, it was much louder than the lifter noises and seemed to be a possible rod issue. After paying for a tow we contacted the kia dealership in pikeville and was told that our kia Soul was not under their recall. If the 1. 6l gdi engine is recalled for any model in this model year should it not be applied to all models? kia doesn't seem to want to help in any way.

2014 kia Soul 2. 0l gdi nu. 34,000 miles. Driving home from work and noticed a slight ticking sound from engine. Sound was getting louder and engine light came on and oil light was flashing. Stopped car checked oil - was very low. Car towed to kia. Diagnosis - metal in oil. Engine condemned. Brough car home. Removed oil pain - 1 bearing was spun. Replaced bearings/oil pan/oil filter - same thing happened again due to something restricting oil flow I suspect. 5 months out of warranty second owner.
While making a right turn onto the highway, vehicle made an insanely loud screeching, metal on metal noise followed by violent shaking. The engine light started flickering, as well as the oil light, then started to stall out. While pulling over, car continued to make grinding and clunking noise coming from what sounded like the engine. Attempted to restart the car, loud clunking and grinding noise. Checked the oil dipstick- metal shards and shavings on dipstick. Took to courtesy kia brandon. Who confirmed engine required a rebuild or replacement. I was told that this was not covered by recent recall of . . . All kia Soul's with 1. 6lt engines made from July 8, 2011 thru Aug 1, 2016 are being recalled. . . " for engine problems. I am now unexpectedly immobilized with a $8k+ repair for a rebuilt engine with 67k+ miles as my option?.
On the 4th of July I was traveling on the highway and my car started to slow down a little bit didn't think anything of it pushed down on the gas to pick speed back up, got off of my exit, I came to a full stop went to go and my oil light was flashing the engine had a horrible ticking noise. I pulled into the parking lot checked my oil, I had none. I then got a ride to the store we filled the oil back up turned on the car and the engine noise was even louder I then quickly turned it off. I left the car in the parking lot over night got it towed to kia of dartmouth where they told me I had no damage or leaks but I needed a new engine $6,000 to re-place since I am second owner the warranty runs out at 60,000 miles and I am at 69,295 they won't pay for it. Tired to get me into a new car but they couldn't since I don't have 6,000 for a new engine and I owe $7,000 on the car. I had the car towed to a safe place where I now still have to pay the loan and insurance for it to sit. I have been in contact with kia consumer they told me they would give me an answer by Tuesday 7/16 no one called. I called today 7/17 the women I spoke with said she tried to find the rep I spoke with before but couldn't she would send him an email to call me which he did and all he said was the towing company wouldn't give him any information I told him I used at&t roadside if that helps he said yes hung up on me and hasn't called back. I have kept up with all my oil changes and routine maintenance at quirk kia in braintree, have all my receipts to prove it. I even had an oil change and sticker scheduled for 7/11.
On Monday 06/17/2019 at approximately 4:15 I was on the expressway driving in traffic around 60 mph when my car started to make a ticking sound as I accelerated. Thinking maybe it had something to do with my recent oil change I so I dismissed it initially. After another ten minutes my car I heard a loud clank under my car but I continued to drive thinking I may have ran over road debris. Then I had a person in a white altima flag me down and told me I was on fire. I immediately pulled over on interstate 285 w in atlanta GA and lifted the hood where I witnessed my engine flaming from the bottom. I began dowsing the fire with my case of bottled water til it was under control. Kia has a recall on my engine recall statusrecall incomplete summary Kia Motors has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in the 2012-2016 my kia Soul vehicles equipped with the 1. 6l gasoline direct injection (gdi) engine. The defect may cause damage to the catalytic converter due to overheating, resulting in abnormal engine combustion and damage to the engine pistons. Piston damage can result in a stall, increasing the risk of a crash. If a piston rod breaks and punctures the engine block, oil can escape, increasing the risk of a fire.
I was leaving work and noticed a loud ticking sound and stopped accelerating . I pulled over about a block away from work into a parking lot and called for a ride. My car was out of warranty so I had it towed to a mechanic who told me the engine was blown. It was fine with no sound while driving to work 9 hours before. The engine was running super hot and I never got any indication of a problem other then that loud ticking when I pulled over. Of course kia won't do anything because my engine is a 2. 0 when only the 1. 6 was on the recall. But after my research I've seen many people with the same thing happening to them with the 2. 0 as well! now I have to take out a loan for 4000 dollars to have my engine replaced with a used one because I'm still paying on my car!.
My motor has 103,000 miles on it. It started making a slight ticking sound. The oil is changed regularly and it was nearly time to have it changed. I took my little boy to school and the car lost power and the noise got a lot worse. I went ahead and took it to castrol to have them check the oil. The oil was fine but we went ahead and changed it. I ended up having to have my car towed home. A mechanic looked at it and said that I needed a new motor.
We literally bought our 17 yr old daughter a 2014 kia Soul 2. 0 a month ago! in less then a month from purchasing she was driving down our major highway and the car started to make a loud ticking noise and started to shake she said the car stalled and she was able to coast to pull over the check engine light and oil light came on together ! we just had the car serviced at our local kia dealership w oil changed . She was able to get the car home . We had a certified mechanic come tow it to see what the problem was he said he had to put 3 q of oil in it just to hook up for diognostic as the oil was bone dry ! all of the readings were unstable due to blown motor ! not sure why the 1. 6 liter was recalled due to engine failure but all the complaints I have read is on the 2. 0. We was quoted 6200$ to fix it because the 2014 engines have been discontinued! hmmm why is that ?! we have a 9,000$ car sitting that I have a loan on paying monthly and our daughter is without a vehicle let me add she lost her job ! I have called the consumer reports and explained what happened they gave me a claim number and said someone will contact me within 3 business days . It is now going on 2 weeks ! I will be looking at all my options at this point and will be contacting our lawyer !.
I was driving home from work and my car started making a clicking sound. A couple minutes later it slowed down until it completely stopped. I'm thankful I was pulling up in front of my house before the car completely died. I replaced the battery but it still won't crank. The lights, radio, and air conditioning works. I was told it may be the alternator.
I had my oil changed last month and noticed an odd smell around that time I didnt think much of it at the time because there was no noise or obvious leaks to weeks later my oil light started flashing sometimes and I checked the oil level. . . It was a quart low so I topped it off and went back to normal fastfoward to this month its emptied out twice I took it to a shop and they found the cat had overheated and caused an oil leak and there is now an awful ticking noise coming from the engine the dealership said this is a known issue on the model with the 1. 6 liter engine and a recall was issued but this recall doesnt cover the 2. 0 liter even though it is the exact same issue I have done some research and found several other customers who had this same issue on their 2. 0 liter models and had to buy new engines this is horrible and I as a consumer feel a full engine failure on a well maintained car that isn't even 5 years old should be covered by the same recall. Kia needs to expand this recall.
Tl the contact owns a 2014 kia Soul. The contact stated that the vehicle was using an excessive amount of oil and there was an abnormal knocking and tapping noise coming from the vehicle. The vehicle lost a quart of oil and additional oil was added. In addition, the check engine and low oil warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to hanson kia (2300 carriage loop sw, olympia, wa 98502, (360) 943-2120) and an oil consumption test was performed. The dealer diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 79,000.
Tl the contact owns a 2015 kia Soul. While driving approximately 50 mph, a clicking noise was heard from the engine. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road and a passerby extinguished the fire that ignited under the hood. There was no warning indicator illuminated. A fire report was not filed. There were no injuries. The vehicle was damaged and towed to an independent mechanic. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
A loud ticking noise developed in the engine this spring. It was diagnosed by a kia technician as worn connecting rod/crankshaft bearings. I have performed regular recommended maintenance, including oil changes, within manufacturer's guidelines. The noise began subtly and worsened over time. It can be heard when the vehicle is stationary and at all speeds. It is loudest while accelerating and is faint while coasting. My specific vehicle is 2012 kia Soul+ (plus) which has a nu 2. 0-liter gdi engine. The same engine in other vehicles and different engine in this vehicle have been recalled for this same problem. I believe this is an error in manufacturing and should be recalled because of the safety hazard it presents (engine fire).
I was driving about 30 mph north on harbor blvd and first st in California sudendly I heard a loud knocking/clicking sound coming from the lower left side of the engine & no error codes came on prior to the noise so I pulled over and called a tow truck to take my vehicle to the nearest mechanic. Until today mechanic has unknown origin of problem.
Tl the contact owns a 2015 kia Soul. The contact's son stated that the engine made an abnormal knocking and clunking noise, which was a distraction. The vehicle was taken to sons kia (100 sons dr, mcdonough, GA 30253, (678) 619-1393) where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 50,000.
Bought a used 2014 kia Soul in 12/2015 with 34,000 and put on 17,400 miles to date. Approx. 12/27/18 heard a very slight knocking, tapping noise (had to turn the accessories off to hear it) and checked the oil level (which was fine-just had it changed). No loss of power, no smoking, and no warning lights came on. The weather was cold (winter in the northeast) so I assumed the noise was a cold engine and the noise was hardly audible as the car warmed up. It eventually got louder and louder and got faster as I accelerated (still no loss of power, etc. I stopped driving the car middle of January 2019 and parked it in my driveway. (I was afraid I would do more damage) and had it towed to a kia dealer to have them assess the noise. On 1/29/19 the dealer called me at work and told me "you need a new engine". . . . And also told me she spoke to service dept. And there is nothing they can do for me because it was out of warranty by 5 weeks (approx. ). I've submitted all of my maintenance records to date (done by manufacturer's dates/only oil changes/ did not need any mechanical repairs). I've contacted kia headquarters approx. 16 times and no one has returned any calls. Last time I spoke to them they are in the 'waiting stage' to see what decision can be made as far as ?? repair or replacement of the engine. They would like me to pay for it. (they want to make sure it's not something I did to the car). Meanwhile my vehicle is sitting on the back lot of the dealer. Keep in mind I've only put on 17,400 miles in 3 years. . . . . . . Please address if you can. Thank you! (I do have all the invoices, maintenance records, but cannot scan at this time).
I was driving down the highway and suddenly heard a clicking sound in the front. My car seemed to be put of gear and was revving up. I immediately pulled to the side and it died right there. I have 102k on this car and it is completely dead. I was told engine needs to be replaced.
Engine oil is disappearing. No leaks to be found. Exhaust clean, no oil burn smoke. While driving engine made tapping noise. Checked oil dipstick an found no oil showing. Added 2 qts. . . . I change oil every 5,ooo miles. I changed oil and filter and checked the oil after 2k miles and had to add another quart. Car has 119k miles now. I have worked on engines of all sorts for 50yrs, and this puzzles me. I see no evidence of why or how the oil is disappearing.
Tl the contact owns a 2013 kia Soul. While driving 40 mph, there was an abnormal clicking noise coming from the engine and smoke under the hood. The vehicle lost power and all the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was able to be coasted to the side of the road. The contact powered off the engine, but the vehicle failed to restart. The contact also stated that thick white smoke came out of the tailpipe. The vehicle was towed to hatfield kia (located at 1455 auto mall dr, columbus, OH 43228, (855) 226-5444) where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided case number: 12952277. The approximate failure mileage was 64,000.
Tl the contact owns a 2014 kia Soul. When the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle stalled and made an abnormal noise as if pressure were being released. The contact stated that the vehicle began to drive, but shortly after, began shaking, smoking, and making clunking noises. The contact shifted into neutral and pulled the vehicle over to a safe location. The vehicle was towed to oakes kia (2900 burlington st, north kansas city, mo 64116). The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 19v120000 (engine). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 73,350.
This incident occurred on Saturday, the 11th of August, 2018 at 12 noon. In motion on interstate i75 southbound. Medium traffic, dry and clear conditions. I heard what sounded like a rock or other road debris hitting the bottom of the car. About 15 seconds later I started hearing a sort of tapping noise from the engine compartment. All the gauges showed normal. I pulled over thinking I may have picked up something under my car. I pulled to the shoulder and examined under the car and saw nothing. I started driving again and changed my destination to the kia dealer where I purchased my car. I noticed the noise increasing and it seemed as if the engine lost lost compression. I then turned on my flashers to alert the drivers behind me. About this time the lcd screen turned white and had the message that the system may have received an error message from the engine and noted that I should get to a kia dealer ASAP. The screen then went blank. I drove for about another half a mile and the engine light illuminated and the engine died. I was able to get to the shoulder and I notice "steam" coming from under the hood. Upon opening the hood I saw the steam was smoke and flames were shooting from the top of the engine, from under the oil cap. I took a blanket from the back of my car to beat out the flames and it caught on fire. At that time I got away from the car and dialed 911. At that time a trucker had pulled over and came running back with a fire extinguisher and doused the flames. A fire truck arrived and wrote a report which I do not have. The car was towed to sons kia of mcdonough, GA.
Takata recall my 2013 kia Soul had been a great car for almost 5 years now. Out of no where when I was driving my car it just started to make this really loud knocking and ticking sound. The check engine light came on and it shuts off while I'm driving. I got it to turn on I took it to kia they did the diagnosis its an engine failure my rod is faulty the guy said but my warranty apparently just ended but how does my 5 year old car have engine failure out of the blue it only has 56. 263 miles on it I only use it locally I maintenance my car how does this happen.
Tl the contact owns a 2013 kia Soul. While driving various speeds, the contact heard an abnormal ticking noise and the temperature gauge increased to high. Additional oil was added to the vehicle and the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to jenkins kia of ocala (2305 sw college rd, ocala, FL 34471, (352) 502-4425) where it was diagnosed with high heat symptoms, engine failure, and the catalytic converter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 206,000. The VIN was unknown.
