In November 2020 I had a dangerous encounter on the I 94 expressway in chicago. My car a 2015 kia Soul engine light came on , and the engine began stall, while this was happening a semi was behind me , thank god I was able to veer off the expressway to the emergency lane and turned off the car. This was the start of the craziness with this vehicle. The engine light has been onand off 4 times since the expressway episode. I've had many encounters with the kia dealerships (5) and Kia Motors of America regarding the engine light and the cars poor performance . In between the time of now and then I have done everything they have requested from getting a catalytic converter oil changes all these things nothing has changed is actually has gotten worse I've even gotten a knock sensor replaced which at thomas kia in indiana see it would fix the problem, didnt. I received a recall letter for this vehicle dated January 27 2021 with all my prior complaints documented, from the oil light being on ,to again the engine light coming and staying on . Kia and the kia dealers refuse to stand by there words stated on the recall notice of the vehicle . The 2015 kia Soul is currently napleton kia in river oaks illinois. I was told by a kia of America representative and kia napleton service advisor that I would need to pay $400. To have them assessed to find out the reason for the engine light staying on. The recall plainly states that the vehicle would be assessed to determine why the light is on.

This vehicle was purchased in March 2020 and in January 2021 started experiencing stalling and smoke. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and they diagnosed the issue as having bad gas. In February 2021, the car had the same issue, stalled while driving, and was also smoking. After two weeks of sitting at the dealership and awaiting the diagnosis, the service manager at southside kia reported that the engine would need to be replaced and it would cost approximately $7700. Upon research, kia has recalled over 300k vehicles due to engine stall and the risk of catching fire. These are the same issues that my mom's car is having, however, the dealer will not entertain or pay the cost and rather attempt to sell her another car. I am still awaiting the documented estimate. I have only spoken to the service advisor on the phone. My concern is that they were aware of the engine trouble in January 2021 and potentially in March of 2020 when they sold the vehicle to her. This appears to be dishonest and that kia's staff took advantage of a senior citizen. The car was in motion while stalling and smoking.

The vehicle stalled while driving and the engine light was illuminated. The car would crank after sitting for a moment and then the car would stall again while driving. This was very dangerous being that this was in traffic. In February, the car was stalling and when towed to the dealer they diagnosed as having bad gas and to run the gas out of the tank. The engine light did not come on at this time. The charge was $168. 00 to diagnose. The same problem is occurring a month later and the dealership responded that in order to diagnose the problem it will cost $420. This appears to be an excessive amount just to diagnose the problem and does not include any repairs. Being that the engine is stalling this and the seriousness of this, I would like to bring this to this agency's attention. I am a senior citizen and would hate to think that the dealership is trying to take advantage of a woman who is a senior citizen. The car was in motion on surface streets but also on the highway at one point.
Within ten minutes of driving the car, it stalls when stopped at lights, stop signs, etc. , geared in drive and low idle under normal driving conditions. When restarted it proceeds at a slow crawl and will not accelerate or will accelerate normally in 15 to 30 seconds. Had oil, oil filter and engine air filter replaced but did not correct the problem. Engine light comes on when it stalls. After six times of dying and not accelerating, it is now parked in driveway and fear it is too dangerous to drive. These incidents happened within one week with no prior operation issues. I have read countless complaints on this issue from other kia Soul owners but no resolves, just astronomical repair bills with no fixes and no help from kia, dealerships or the government.

In 2018 I known my 2012 Soul 1. 6l consume too much engine oil about 1qt for 1,000 miles. I told it the kia engineer. But the engineer said, it is caused by mileage over 140,000. I had added engine oil pretty often. I visited the kia a couple of months later for engine stalling and and extra oil consuming. I asked for recall 19v120000. But they said it is not for my car. They told other repair about $ 400 instead.
My 2015 kia Soul was operating fine until 1-7-2021. At about 45 mph the oil light came on , then the engine light, then a pounding sound and then the engine blew up. I had it towed to myrtle beach kia, the dealership where I bought the car. They submitted the incident to their engineering dept. Which approved a new engine. On 1-18-21 the kia service man called to say that the new engine has been installed but that the car doesn't run right. It needs a new fuel pump at a cost to me of about $900. I talked with the general manager who checked with the service dept. And he said that the warranty only covers the drive train, plus they found no evidence to show that the fuel pump was affected by the engine incident. I paid the $896. 40 for the new fuel pump and picked up the car yesterday. Does this sound right? the car runs fine. . . There's an engine incident which is covered by the warranty or the recall. . . Now I have to pay $900 to get my car back to where it was???.
I was at a red light, the engine stalled, or cut out very low almost cutting off, but caught up and proceeded. This is the second time in less than a year that this has happened. . The first time I was driving on 75 when it sputtered twice but then proceeded. . .
Had been driving on the highway for about 90 minutes/90 miles when we were coming to the summit of stevens pass on hwy 20 east-bound. The car suddenly started running rough so we pulled to the shoulder just in time for the engine to stall and all dash lights to come on. Tried to restart the engine when a puff of smoke erupted from the engine compartment and a bystander alerted us to visible flames. Thankfully, a passer by had an extinguisher and was able to put out the fire almost immediately.
I took the car into kia dealership in cape coral, FL. Engine light on. The car kept stalling and would lose all power while driving. I wanted service done on it and all recalls fixed. They fixed recalls and put a new catalytic converter in it to solve the engine from stalling and lose power. They told me the car was fixed. I picked it up and drove it on the hwy and it stalled at 75mph and totally had nothing and had to maneuver the car off the hwy with my grand kids in the car. I managed to get it started to get it home and it stalled again at all the stop signs and was almost t-boned from the side. It happens when the converter heats up and the fuel is not feed into engine right. It was towed back to kia and they told me the engine has metal shavings in the oil from the convert getting hot. I cant believe they let me drive this car off the lot knowing that there is a recall # sc176. . . I almost got killed with my family in the car. I spoke with corporate and they refuse to help me even though the recall exists!! I was hung up on during the conversation with a consumer affairs mgr. Named kayla. . . She told me the car is out of warranty and I would have to pay for a new engine! recall# sc176!! I need help! the car is still at the dealership since my family was in the car when it kept dying on the road and we almost was killed or in a very serious accident. Kia is not honoring sc176 even though it states on my invoice that the car needs a new engine because of the converter failure. Its printed on the invoice with the work that was done on it. Engine light is still active and the car sits. I took the car into kia to service it and all they did was the oil change w metal. . . . And converter recall. But it was to late the damage has been done from the recalls overheating. They say its not throwing the right code for a new engine so they wont fix it. I talked to 3 people .

I took my 2012 kia Soul into the dealership to have two recalls taken care of. One of the recalls involved high exhaust temperatures within the catalytic converter may cause internal engine damage to the pistons and connecting rods, resulting in an engine stall and failure. Dealers will upgrade the catalytic overheating protection engine control unit logic to prevent overheating of the catalytic converter, and replace the converter if it has been damaged, also assessing and repairing related damage to the engine as needed free of charge to resolve the concern. They did an ecu upgrade but at the time of the recall service they noted that the engine was knocking prior to service. They did not notify me that the engine was knocking. A week later I noticed the engine knocking and took it back to the dealership to have it addressed. I was told that the #2 rod bearing was bent and that I needed to replace my engine to the tune of $5500. They stated that the bent rod was not caused by the recall defect but could not tell me any other reason for how it was bent either. They have refused to replace the engine as part of the recall.
Tl the contact owns a 2015 kia Soul. The contact stated that the engine was faulty. While driving, the vehicle decelerated and lost power. The contact pulled the vehicle over onto the road shoulder and could not restart the engine. In addition, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who stated that a new engine needed to be installed. A new engine and catalytic converter were installed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. The dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 122,000. The VIN was unknown.
My car does not seem to be covered under recall 19v120000, however it is having the same issues associated with that recall number. High exhaust temperatures within the catalytic converter may cause internal engine damage to the pistons and connecting rods, resulting in an engine stall and failure. My vehicle stalls when operating, sometimes while stopped, sometimes while accelerating. I took it into kia service previously and they told me it was related to the above concerns, but at the time a recall was not know.
When I go to come to a stop at a stop light or stop sigh, sometimes the engine will stall out and all power is lost. The have to turn the car off completely and restart it. Then it drives fine again until I come to another stop. It doesn't happen all the time but it happens alot.
Tl the contact owns a 2014 kia Soul. While driving 65-70 mph, the vehicle shook uncontrollably, made an abnormal bubbling sound, and stalled. The vehicle was coasted over to the road shoulder and towed to classic kia carrolton (2920 n interstate 35e, carrollton, TX 75007, (866) 559-8140). The dealer stated that the engine did not stall and the vehicle was not included in a recall. The contact stated that the VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 19v120000 (engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 87,000.
Tl the contact owns a 2013 kia Soul. While operating the vehicle, the engine stalled and the check engine indicator illuminated. Occasionally, the engine would immediately restart and the vehicle would operate normally. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the engine crankshaft was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The local dealer (deland kia, 2322 woodland blvd, deland, FL) and the manufacturer were notified of the failures, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 48,000. The VIN was unknown.
The contact owns a 2014 kia Soul. While driving approximately 40 mph, the engine stalled without warning. The vehicle was able to restart. The failure recurred four times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure was undetermined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 6,500.
On or about June 27, 2013, I had about 58,000 miles on my vehicle and while on the freeway I noticed a slight hesitation and then a light knocking in the engine. Engine light came on, so I had the code read and it idicated that the knock sensor was bad. I had it replaced and still had the knocking niose and engine light on. Had the code read again and it idicated that it was the knock sensor, so I replaced it again. Engine light went out but the knocking continued for several months. Then it started stalling at stops, also engine was running odd and not having power. Engine light came back on and this time the code indicated that it was the crank sensor. I replaced it and the odd running stopped. The engine still stalls on occasion it stalls even while driving. I've had both recalls completed on my vehicle, and was told arapahoe kia, (9701 e arapahoe rd, centennial, CO 80112) after the catalitic converter recall was completed, that I should get the engine flushed and if it still continued, I had to have engine replaced at my cost. To say the least, that after 241,436 miles, it is still knocking, using oil. I think the catalitic converter had something to do with this issue, but you know how dealerships treat customers, like they don't know anything. I'm a mechical engineer inspector, so good luck with your kia Souls, I think there should be a recall on all 1. 6l engines.
