The car stalled in traffic while I was at a stop light. I put the car in park, and the engine re-started. The car had 6,595 miles on the odometer, and the first service was due at 7,500 miles. After this stalling incident, in order to prevent this happening again, every time I had to stop after that, at a light or intersection, I put the car in park. The next day, driving at 25 mph on a city street, loud rattling and metallic sounds came from the engine. I checked the oil. There was no trace of oil on the dipstick. I put in 2 quarts of oil, and the dipstick showed the sump was now full. I checked the tailpipe and found a carbon deposit on the inside, indicating the burning of oil. I took the car to the dealership where I bought it - kirby kia in ventura CA - and they diagnosed a severe engine malfunction with evidence of metal shavings after removing the valve cover, and in the oil filter. They said they needed to replace the engine. They provided me with a complimentary rental car for 10 days, then a loaner, and returned my vehicle to me after 21 days. In the paperwork they gave me on returning my vehicle it states they installed a remanufactured long block engine and intake manifold. At no point in this whole procedure was I asked to consent to the engine being replaced, and I signed no document authorizing this to be done. At the end, I wrote that my signature only indicated my car had been returned to me. No apology was expressed to me by kia for the major inconvenience the failure of the engine in this new car had caused me, except when I informed the management of the dealership of this fact, they called me to express regret.

When cranking my vehicle on Monday evening, 12/14, approximately 40 degrees outside, I noticed a noise after initial startup that sounds like when you put a card or a soda can on the tire of your bike. The noise didn't continue so I drove it home, approximately 17 miles from where it was parked initially. I didn't hear it on the drive home, until I rolled down my window slightly as I came to a stop light, and it was making the same ticking noise, but much louder, and especially when I began to accelerate. I immediately called my fiance, and when I pulled into the driveway he immediately requested I turn off the vehicle. Pulled the oil stick, and noted that it was almost bone dry. Which is crazy because we perform routine maintenance on my car, as it's the daily driver for my 7 year old and myself. The last oil change was roughly end of September. He put oil in it, and hoped it would stop the noise, but it didn't. After having it evaluated, we're told it will need a new motor. I called kia, and even though the previous year models 2012-16 all have these same exact issues, they will not fix the motor, since there isn't a recall issued for my year model yet. This is so concerning, as my car is only 3 years old, and it has been taken such good care of.

Bought new in February 2020, as I was coming home down city streets, from work in October 2020, I notice a knocking pinging rattling noise coming from the the engine compartment. . When I got home the noise became louder and I immediately called kia of palm springs CA to take it in. They told me an appointment would take weeks to take in or drop off and would take about 4 days to take a look at it. I decided to drop it off as the car was still movable, dropped it of with no appointment. The dealer called me about a week later and could not find a reason for the noise and would keep checking. About another week into the issue we were told the engine failed and would have to be replaced. To date, and would take 3 to 4 weeks to receive a new engine and another 2 weeks for installation. We are now in December and have no car and have had to make monthly payments on our car loan. I have complained directly to Kia Motors and every time I have called they seem to not be able to satisfy our complaint and they keep passing the buck telling me that my case will have to be escalated to a higher and different department because no one has authority to make decision unless we go thru their process of escalation and each time say they will call me and I have to call them. I am very unhappy with this situation and regret having bought this vehicle.
My wife and I are the formerly proud owners of a 2014 kia Soul 2. 0 our first kia was a 1996 sportage, we bought it new at one of the first four kia dealers in the us, bob lanphere in beaverton or. We have been kia evangelists for many years. However, over some time, our 2014 Soul seemed to be slowly losing power, and also losing some oil between changes. We used it in town, rarely at highway speeds. I guess it is an example of slowly turning up the heat on the pot of water for the frog; but we just didn't pay much attention. We happened to take it to our mechanic to have the brakes done, he called up, said the brakes were ready but that the car had little power and asked how did we drive it like that? he further volunteered that the exhaust emitted a metallic odor he associated with a dying catalytic converter, and that a clogged converter can significantly hamper the power. We were surprised to hear the news but the gentleman has proved his acuity and integrity a number of times over the years with other vehicles. We subsequently had the entire converter replaced with an aftermarket product for a "mere" 900 dollars. After the fact, we thought there was still some hesitation when acceleration was required, but it clearly ran much better. Then we found out about the 1. 6 recall, and a class action suit for the 2. 0! now we worry that if there is a programming issue it could damage another converter and even worse if the converter is not the instigator then the car might stop dead and/or catch on fire at any time regardless of a new converter. It runs very hot, and has less power than it should. Nobody can explain why the bad ecu programming would not effect the 2. 0 engine's catalytic converter, we have asked the dealership and the kia customer assistance center to explain the distinction both verbally and in writing with no real answer.

Engine started hard in driveway and lacked performance when starting down the street. Hoped it was a possible damp condition that morning as it never happened before and I continued off for work. After nearing work, it did not correct itself so when I got to work I took the day off to get it to the dealer. Upon restarting it was the same however at the first stop it stalled and would not restart. Kept trying for 10 min and if finally started and I drove it to the dealer. After a couple days the dealer stated it needed a new engine as the timing was off by 4 degrees. This condition made the car extremely dangerous for lack of power and others passing but I never dreamed it would need the engine replaced. Byers kia in lewis center, OH service dept has not given me any information on what happened and why and has not given any further follow-up in 3 weeks!.

Tl the contact owns a 2015 kia Soul. While driving approximately 45 mph, a knocking sound emerged from the engine compartment, the check engine warning indicator flashed, and the vehicle started to hesitate and lose power. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The following day, the vehicle was towed to la fontaine kia (2027 s telegraph road, dearborn, mi 4812) where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. After the repairs, the contact received a recall notification for NHTSA campaign number: 19v120000 (engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was advised to submit the receipts to determine if there was reimbursement eligibility. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
