Nissan Armada owners have reported 49 problems related to brake grinding noise (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Nissan Armada based on all problems reported for the Armada.
My wife was driving my children on the highway at approximately 55mph and the brake icon suddenly flashed red on the dash. My wife attempted to apply the brakes and they did not function or respond other than by making a grinding noise. The pedal was able to go to the floor but with no braking accomplished. To stop the vehicle she had to downshift and let it coast to a stop in a parking lot that was fortunately on her path of travel. There are no leaks in the braking system and the nearby Nissan dealership said it had thrown a c1179 code for a brake booster sensor. Turns out this is a common issue with these models and Nissan lost a class action lawsuit about the issue in California in 2014. Several other owners have reported the exact same scenario on various Nissan forums. It is a wonder my wife and children were not in an accident.

All dash board lights suddenly turn on when driving on the freeway and breaks disengage. Pressing the break pedal results in a loud grinding noise and sounds like springs tearing. This happened four times. Dealer cannot find the problem and I have changed break pads and rotors but still continues. The only solve is to turn off the engine and turn it back on.

My vehicle was acting completely normal no dash lights until I went to stop at a stop light thats when I applied the brakes to come to a stop my breakes were soft grinding noise and did not want to stop. I look at the dash and the break light was on I pulled to the shoulder of the road put in the parking break and released it. Still same issue. Turned the truck off then back on and now is working completely normal again. After doing research this is a very common problem on the Nissan Armadas and titans. It is found to be a faulty break booster and sensor. I had 2 of my children with me. It was a frightening experience not knowing if I was going to be able to stop my vehicle. Nissan needs this booster to be recalled. There is absolutely no warning that you may loose your breaks.

Own a 2006 Nissan Armada le. Started my truck and the brake, vdc, slip, and 4wd lights lit up on the dashboard. Thought it appeared because it was getting cold. Drove a couple of blocks down a city a street and heard a loud grinding noise when the brakes were pressed and the truck jolted a little bit. After another block, lights went away and didn't have more any issues on the way home. When I got home, turn the truck off and restarted the truck, no lights. Did a google search and read many issues relating to this. A couple a days later checked the truck, on start-up. . . No lights, then when I put it in drive, the same lights lit up. Took it to the dealership, lights were lit, brakes engaged, and speedometer was fluctuating and then didn't move. When I arrived at the dealership, speedometer activated again when the truck was put in park. Nissan dealership did a diagnostic test and the advisor indicated both the ecm and abs actuator assembly were fried and needed to be replaced, $3,100 to start out with. Truck is still at the shop, no work has started. Notified Nissan customer relations since there is a known issue, waiting to hear back. Also called another dealership to see what they could tell me and it was mentioned that there is a known issue. Called the service dept. Back the next day and talked to another advisor, the advisor indicated since there are some are hard codes (u1000, u1001) displayed with the ecm and abs assembly, the systems potentially need to be replaced.
I was going down east chase parkway in fort worth going towards green oaks blvd into arlington texas and my brakes went out. I heard a grinding noise and my truck wouldn't stop. So, I pulled over and car my truck off and on and the problem seemed to go away. I proceeded on my way and they went out again and I almost rear ended a 18-wheeler with my two babies in the car. I immediately ran up on a curb to not hit the semi. And, immediately went to a brakes shop and was told it was my brake booster kit that was attached to the abs system. That was recalled and since I didn't find out til later and didn't have problems til later on I got screwed and had to pay over $1300. 00 dollars to fix it. And, have yet to be reimbursed which I think sucks.
The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Armada. While driving at various highway speeds, the brake warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel and the brakes made a grinding noise. There was a decrease in stopping power when the brakes were applied. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the brake booster failed and would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.
I have a 2005 Nissan Armada that have a serious braking issues that needs to bed looked into it doesn't happen all the time but when it does the brake pedal goes all the way down to the floor and make a grinding noise I spoke with Nissan consumer affairs they want me to take it to Nissan and have a diagnostic done, which will call me 99. 00 that is none reimbursable apparently there was a lawsuit for this issue in California that was settle by Nissan in my research I found other Nissan owner who are having issues with there vehicles from the year 2004 - present.

Doesn't matter the speed of the vehicle, brakes tend to press to the floor, grinding noise and the only way to stop this is to pull over the vehicle, turn off the ignition and restart it. It randomly happens, but I am very concerned that if and when I tow or am on the highway, I don't won't my brakes to not work. Could kill me. . .
Truck makes grinding noise and wont stop I eas deiving it in the highway . Brake ligths and check engine came on . . Tok it to check the check engine and it says code c1179 delta s sensor. I have been doing some research and look like there is a lot of complains regarding this issue. . Please help is my wife and kid daily truck.
The contact owns a 2008 Nissan Armada. While driving at 5 mph, the steering wheel seized without warning and the brakes made a grinding noise. The vehicle hesitated to stop completely. The failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000.
Every once in a while, when I apply the brakes, the brake pedal went to the floor and I heard a loud grinding noise from the front of the vehicle. This happens randomly. It could happen once or twice a month and then not at all for the next month. I immediately shut off the truck while cruising and turn it back on while cruising and it fixes the issue and I am able to stop fine. I have contacted Nissan before and they failed to help me. Through hundreds of posts of Armada owner with the same issue it seem to be the brake booster in which an be up to 1500$ to fix. I cannot afford this fix and it seem that it should be a recall. Were talking about brakes. I have 3 children and am very concerned. Please help me with this repair - this has happened over 20 times.
Tl- the contact owns a 2006 Nissan Armada. The contact stated that while driving at 65 mph, the contact depressed the brake pedal. The contact stated that the brake pedal traveled all the way down to the floor, with the brake warning indicator illuminating on vehicle and a loud abnormal grinding noise coming from the brakes. The contact stated that the vehicle was turned off and restarted and that the brake pedal lifted back into the correct position. The contact stated that the failure had occurred on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure could not duplicated. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 75,000. Wh.
I experienced a sudden loss of braking power as I was approaching an intersection at about 30 mph and applying my brakes. The brake pedal became soft and unresponsive and the pedal began to shake and the abs system or brake booster could be heard making a metallic grinding noise. I lost about 80-90% braking ability and was barely able to stop the car before it entered into a busy intersection. This occurred for 1 1/2 miles until I got home. Vehicle was taken to the dealership the next day, however, the problem could not be replicated. They suggested a $900 brake booster replacement with no assurance that it would solve the problem. I looked through the original service records of the car and found that the previous owner had taken the vehicle while it was still under warranty for the exact same issue on 3/5/2008 and a vdc software update was performed. That did not solve the problem. There appears to be a design defect in the braking system that is causing this to happen.
I was driving my kids to school, as I was reaching a stop sign I went to hit my brakes when all of the sudden I had no brake power, made an ugly grinding noise and stopped in the middle of the intersection luckily there were no kids crossing the road or could of been something really bad! please help us!.
Right rear parking brake cable bracket snapped. Cable dropped down on to right rear drive axle and a loud grinding noise was heard. Took vehicle to Nissan dealer and they claimed it was not a warranty repair.

The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Armada. While driving approximately 35 mph, the contact heard a grinding noise and the brakes failed when the brake pedal was depressed. In order to stop the vehicle, the contact had to shift it into park, turn off, and restart the vehicle. The brake warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. The failure occurred multiple times. The dealer and an independent mechanic were unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 104,000.
The vehicle differential control stopped working and caused a brake failure. The vehicle slide through a red light into an intersection where it was struck in the side by another vehicle. After the incident, I checked the brakes and it had stopped. This was one incident of many. The vehicle's brakes stop working and makes a grinding noise. If I turn the vehicle off and restart it, it will stop doing it. The vehicles brake pads, calipers, and brake booster has been replaced and it still continues to do it. There is no consistency to this occurring. It does this periodically with the same result. I researched the problem and it seems this is and has been a problem involving Nissan Armadas nationwide with serious consequences. There are tens of thousands of complaints being reported on the internet all of these complaints are described the same way. In fact I received a notice on a class action suite being filed against Nissan for this problem. I work for NHTSA and attempted to discuss this problem with odi to no avail. I would expect some sort of response when me and the public make complaints that can and will be life threatening. How many complaints and or how many people need to be involved in crashes, injuries, and/or deaths before something is done. The incident described is one event among many. It has also occurred on the interstate at much higher speeds. The only way to clear it is to turn the vehicle off and crank it back up again. The dealer will not recognize there is a defect, instead they continue to replace brake parts, at the owners expense hoping this will fix the problem. .
This happened twice with the similar incident in June 2013. While driving, break lights up on the dash board. Emergency break not engaged. We exited the freeway right away. Loud grinding noise when breaks is applied. The break pedal is all the way to the floor. It took awhile to completely stop. Thank god. We turned off the engine and restart and the break light on the dash board is gone and break is fine again. We brought the car to the Nissan dealership yesterday and they did not find anything wrong with the break system. This is an urgent issue that needs to addressed by Nissan. Life is really at stake here.
The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Armada. The contact stated that the front brake exhibited a grinding noise and simultaneously failed to engage. The contact shut the engine off and once restarted, the brakes resumed normally. The failure was recurring. The vehicle was not taken for inspection or repairs. The manufacture was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 86,000.
This is the 3rd time the brakes have failed since I purchased the used 2004 Armada about 1. 5yrs ago. The Armada when purchased had approximately 123,000 miles on it. Not long after I purchased while driving at 50mph the brake pedal went soft the brakes were at approximately 5% and there was an electrical grinding noise. After turning the vehicle off and on again the problem went away. I took the vehicle to Nissan and was told that the rotors needed to be replaced because they were so thin the brake pads were having trouble gripping them and that was confusing the abs which is what I was hearing. I was also told the brake software needed to be updated at additional cost. I paid for everything to be done only to have the problem again a couple months later while driving slowly on a gravel surface. I contacted the dealer again and was told just to turn the vehicle on and off again and if it happens again to bring it in. While driving through a shopping center parking lot it happened again. Brakes go out, peddle goes soft and electrical noise. I took the Armada to the dealer again and was told this time the brake fluid needed to be replaced. I asked why wasn't that done when all the other work was performed only a few thousand miles earlier. They said it was not part of the work to replace the brakes. I paid to have the brake fluid replaced. Recalls have been done on 2004 Armadas for brake issues in the past, during my last visit to Nissan I was told the module that controls all the braking system in my vehicle could be bad which may need to be replaced. I have to wait until my brakes fail again before they supposedly will know. Nissan knows there are problems still with the 2004 Armada braking system and should be made to recall them all to fix them.
The contact owns a 2008 Nissan Armada. The contact stated that while driving 60 mph, she applied the brakes and heard a grinding noise. The brakes did not stop the vehicle, but the contact was able to successfully coast to a stop. The vehicle was safely driven to an authorized dealer and was in the process of having the failure diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 50,000. The VIN was unavailable.
While driving my vehicle at approx 45mph I was coming up upon a traffic light intersection and attempting to slow down. When I applied the brakes, the brake pedal went to the floor and I heard a loud grinding noise from the front of the vehicle. Luckily I was able to get through the intersection without injuring or killing someone. I immediately pulled to the side of the road and called for assistance. The vehicle was checked out by my mechanic and he advised me that a c1179 dtc was showing up in the computer. He also said TSB was on file for this problem but that I would need to take it to the dealer to have it fixed. I scheduled an appointment with the dealer and they "performed the repair". A week later, I was driving the vehicle and the same thing happened, the brake pedal went to the floor, the grinding noise was heard. I have another appointment scheduled with the dealer. Nissan must be aware of this serious problem and should do something about it. There are many complaints for this problem when I searched the web. I also found a lawsuit against Nissan that is being heard in us district court on 4/26/12. The NHTSA should act on this quickly before someone is injured or killed. Nissan has done nothing accept charge for the "repairs".
The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Armada. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the brake pedal was depressed with a delayed response accompanied by an abnormal grinding noise. In addition, the brake warning indicator illuminated. The failure was recurring. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who stated that the brake booster would need to be replaced and the abs would require reprogramming. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000. The abs control was reprogrammed. Also, the seat belt light flashed. The technician found an open circuit in the rear door harness. Updated 12/23/13.
Same issue everyone else is having spongy brakes when pressed not stopping, loud grinding noise, major safety issue. . . . Can NHTSA help out the little guy for a change and order a recall for this safety issue at hand with all Nissan Armadas breaking systems. . . . . . Nissan is aware of the issues but does not want to fix its problem. . . I guess it takes a death to have them listen. In all reality its not the death that will cause them to listen or fix the issue at hand it will be the law suit against Nissan for their unsafe practices. . . . .
Driving at 50 miles per hour and suddenly the abs brakes turns red, I try to push the brake pedal and it makes a loud grinding noise and the brakes just keeps on having like an up and down pressure and the vehicle would not stop. I asked some Armada owners and they have a same problem . Very unsafe for a family man driving kids with faulty brake system. This happens 3 x already I have to pull over and shut down engine. Nhtsa help us !.

2004 Nissan Armada; I've been monitoring these reports for years and find it ridiculous that Nissan is incompetent in dealing with this issue. This has been an issue since the advent of the Armada platform. I have had this same abs issue since we purchased the car in Feb 2005. Although the issue can be resolved or reset by turning off the engine and restarting, it does nothing to ward off close calls in traffic or busy streets with pedestrians. I've heard everything from replacing the computer, brake booster, pressure equalization valve. . . Etc. These are all blind attempts to do something if not anything. The problem needs to be resolved definitely and the remedy applied unilaterally across the Armada line. The grinding noise, I believe is not at the rotors, it is a spring like resonance that comes from the brake booster and the millisecond pressure reaction to each of the wheels. It sounds like someone hits a large coil spring with a hammer. I can't tell, but is this problem limited to just the 2004 models? come on Nissan. . . Do the right thing before someone gets hurt!.
The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Armada. The contact was driving 30 mph when the brakes were depressed and the vehicle failed to stop properly. The contact also stated that a loud grinding noise could be heard when the brakes were depressed. The vehicle was taken to both a local repair shop and the dealer but not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted but provided no assistance. The VIN was unavailable. The failure and current mileage was 86,000.
At slow speed, brakes appear to fail. Grinding noise with very minimal braking as a result. Turning off vehicle and restarting seems to clear the "trouble". Would be dangerous in traffic situation. Recurring yet very occasional problem.
Sudden and complete failure of the braking system. Brake pedal becomes hard to push and the brakes issue a scrapping and grinding noise. Very scary. Brakes become unusable and it is clear that the abs controller has somehow come one at an inappropriate time such that the braking system is not operating properly. If this occurred at high speed, it would surely cause a major accident. This has happened several times with this vehicle and there are many other accounts with other vehicle. You are referred to the website of Armada. Com for the same. Nissan should have recalled these vehicles long ago for repairs. I am told that some dealers are reprogramming the computer and are charging owners for this inherent defect in these vehicle and poor design from the factory. This rampant condition which affects thousands of vehicle in the u. S. Both Nissan Armada of all years 2004-present and Nissan luxury companion vehicles under the infinity qx design. The above prevalent defect is a clear and present danger to all owners of Armada and qx vehicles. Nissan knows about this, but has failed and refused to issue a recall. They should be directed to do so, or be heavily penalized for failure to repair these vehicle to prevent future injury to vehicle owners and their families. Updated 08/31/11.
Nissan Armada brake issue for 2004-2006 model year. Nissan USA is not acknowledging Armada has issue with the brake system. While driving approximately 10-15 mph,I applied pressure to the brake pedal and the brake pedal fell to the floor. I heard a grinding noise coming from the brakes. I contacted Nissan and they had me do a diagnostic at the dealer. Nissan is still not doing anything to repair the brake.
The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Armada. While driving approximately 20 mph, the contact applied pressure to the brakes and heard a loud grinding noise. He was unable to bring the vehicle to a complete stop, causing the pedal to jerk. He was forced to use the emergency brake in order to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who performed a diagnostic test which concluded that the brake booster failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer did not offer any assistance. The current and failure mileages were 67,287.
SUV failed to stop properly, brake pedal pulsated and very loud grinding noise. Pulled over and turn car off and problem went away. Drove to dealership and was repaired the same day. Service center knows of problem due to bulletin but says there is no recall, incident put me and my passenger in serious danger. Did some research online and seems to be a common problem in this model SUV.
While driving down the road I would be approaching a stop sign or light and I applied the brake and suddenly hear a loud grinding noise. When I pull over and turn the vehicle off and then start over, it was like it reset itself. I freaked out because I had children with me. Nissan, please figure this out!!! also when I try to turn my air on or off I hear a very loud clicking noise. Even while driving down the road without touching the air it just randomly does it.
I own a 2006 Nissan Armada le. It has recently had serious braking problems, it is intermittent, it doesn't happen consistently. Approx. 2 weeks ago I was driving home with my children in the truck, I went to apply the brakes and they did not engage at all. I had no braking power, then it started making grinding noises but I still could not stop in a safe manner. My husband looked at the car and we switched keys-meaning we turned the truck off then on again. After the truck was turned off the brakes began to perform normally. We took the truck to les schwabb and they couldn't find anything wrong with the brakes but they bled the system and put new fluid in. It has happened several times since and the fix is always turning the truck off. I and my children were put in a very dangerous position on a major road. I looked on the internet and there are pages and pages of people that have had the same problem with their 2006 Armada's. Nissan needs to recall these vehicles immediately and fix this problem before more people are injured.
I was operating my 2005 Nissan Armada on Monday, September 20, 2010 when my brakes failed to operate correctly. Fortunately, it did not cause an accident, but the brakes when applied did not cause the vehicle to stop and there was a grinding noise when I applied pressure to the pedal. I had the vehicle towed to the dealer where they discovered a code c1179 which required them to replace the brake booster sensor. The repair was over $800 which included the cost of towing the vehicle. I have learned that Nissan issued a service bulletin for the issue on may 12, 2006. My husband complained to Nissan, but they would not cover the cost of the repair. My vehicle had approximately 79,000 miles at the time of the incident. I am concerned with this issue because it was a failure of a safety system of the vehicle which I do not believe to be associated with normal wear and tear. In my situation, I had just replaced my front brake pads two months prior to the incident. My vehicle was well-maintained and regularly inspected by the dealer.
