1 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2009 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 12/09/2017

While driving my vehicle, the brakes became spongy and required pushing the pedal all the way to the floor to stop. I was able to drive the car to a local auto shop and they replaced the master brake cylinder and brake booster, but the car is still having problems. Now they say it is the abs system.

2 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2009 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 02/08/2017

Spongy brake; had to brake pushing pedal almost down to the floor. No warning. Mechanic thought it was a cylinder issue but not the issue. Nissian mechanic stated it's a common problem with the 2009 nissian Murano & the solution is to repair the abs motor modulator valve. Car has 91,000 miles.

3 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2011 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 02/06/2017

On 12/15/16 I was driving my 2011 Nissan Murano awd and when braking for a left turn lane on a local street (going about 30 mph) the brake pedal all of a sudden had no pressure & went all the way to the floor. I could not stop the car & I had to veer to the right to avoid hitting a car in front of me. Towed the car to the Nissan dealer the next day, 12/16/16, & they said it was the master brake cylinder. They replaced the master brake cylinder for about $700 & it was working normally except for a slight whirring sound. On 2/6/17, approximately a month and a half later. I was entering a freeway on ramp (curving type of on ramp approximately 45 mph) and the brakes went to the floor again with no pressure. I had to sharply turn to the right to avoid hitting the car in front and coast to a stop. Took the car to the same dealer and they said the problem was now worn front brakes $400. Then they called a little later and changed their diagnosis and said the issue was now the abs actuator, $1900. Did some research online and found that Nissan has a recall for certain year Murano abs actuators. I believe they should expand the recall because it seems to be affecting my 2011 Murano and I have read many 2009 Murano owners experiencing many of the same issues I am. Interestingly both times the brakes failed were on very rainy days. I think this issue should be addressed before a bad accident occurs where there could be a fatality.

4 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2009 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 10/05/2015

I was braking at a stop light when I hit a pot hole and the brake pedal went almost to the floor, I was able to pump them up enough to get home. I don't have any leaks at cylinders and my pads are new and my fluid level is ok I am an aircraft mechanic and understand how abs systems work the next day the brakes were still loosing pressure so I took a rubber mallet and tapped on the abs valve while my friend applied pressure to the brake pedal, the problem immediately went away. It looks like the abs anti skid valve is internally bypassing fluid I called my Nissan service center and they said there are no recalls on the abs anti skid module.

5 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2009 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 01/01/2015

I have replaced the master brake cylinder in this vehicle twice. Both times, the brakes would inexplicably lose pressure, with the pedal traveling all the way to the floor. The two replacements were done by the dealer within a year of each other. The first was a warranty repair, the second happened out of warranty. I saw an article indicating this problem was being investigated and decided to add my complaint.
