This vehicle has problems since day one I bought it air bag light came on I don't think the recall was done properly cause I have same issue as it was stated by other driver's airbag light on steering making noise it's ridiculous.
The driver airbag light went on, the whole steering wheel control stopped working as soon as this light went on. The agency advices us that this is a very common issue with this vehicle. That there was a recall for this same issue for the clock coil I believe he called it, and I want to verify why my vehicle is experiencing this same issue and is not one of the recalled models? how do you determine that only certain models where affected, this you use different coils for different vehicles?.

On 1/12/21 while turning into a fast food restaurant I heard clicking in the steering column and then the air bag light came on and error codes across the digital screen and a clock emblem signal came on. Pulled over and looked at my manual. Drove on home and did research and found that the clock spring is a major issue with vws. I went back out to test the steering column and sure enough the horn and all controls on the column did not work. Called the local vw dealer the next day. They said there was a recall on this 2017 Passat sel model. They replaced 6 days later.
When turning the wheel while driving, I heard a clicking sound from the steering wheel. Then the airbag light turned on. Now my horn does not work or any of the controls on the steering wheel. I know this is the clock spring malfunction, with the takata airbag malfunction that happened with the 2015 Passats.
Steering clock spring was reportedly fixed as part of the recall but has failed again. Airbag light is on. Horn does not work. Steering wheel controls do not work. Cruise control is not working. Vw will not repair the recall work done without charge. Seatbelt tensioner is also now reportedly affected.
Failed steering wheel clock spring as described in 2015 recall 69l2. Airbag light is illuminated and all steering wheel buttons, including horn, do not function. All symptoms began while making a turn while driving vehicle. Dealer reports that this vehicle is not eligible for recall repair.
While turning the steering wheel, I started hearing a clicking noise. Shortly after the horn or controls are not working and airbag light is on.
I was driving and I heard very weird noises were coming from the steering wheel everytime I turn it in either direction and the next day, the air bag light comes on. By the time I took it to the dealer, my horn stops working. So the dealership told me that there is a known issue with the clockspring in the 2012 vw Passat. What concerns me most is that the airbag will fail if an accident occurs, and it is unsafe to drive the car with a non working horne.
Airbag light on for driver side airbag, horn will not work, crinkle sound when turning steering wheel. No power to steering wheel controls.
The driver airbag light is on. Has been on since I purchased the vehicle.
When I was driving on the fwy my airbag light came on and my door lock are keep going off as if im hiting the lock button.
While driving on a city street, the airbag light was activated in my vehicle. Upon review of the vehicle no functions on the steering wheel are working or the horn. My vehicle was recalled in the past due to the clock spring not working and taken to get fix. The same clock spring issue are occurring again.
I had turned my car on and noticed my airbag light had come on and all my controls and horn had stopped working. This is a major safety issue. I took it into a repair shop and they showed me a recall that happened in 2015. The recall said the airbag clock spring may fail and that this could effect all controls, including the horn. (NHTSA campaign number: 15v483000) they asked me to look into this before fixing. So, I called the Volkswagen service center to check, and unfortunately my car was not covered under this recall, even though it says 2012-2014 Volkswagen Passat the cost of this happening to my car is over $800. 00. Nothing I did to make this happen, it just happened. I am baffled that this was a recall in the past and only covered a certain amount of vins. Clearly, my car and others (based off of the other complaints I have read) are having this same safety issue that Volkswagen is liable for but not taking it into account. I am very upset knowing they will not cover this cost. What is the point of having a recall if they only fix a fraction of the cars? very disappointed.
I took my vehicle in to vw of chattanooga in August to get the airbag recall taken care of and now my surprise my "clock spring" is now not working. I called vw of chattanooga and described that the controls on the steering wheel was not working, there is a clicking sound when turning the wheel and discussed my safety concerns. I mentioned to vw of chattanooga that I was concerned that the airbag will just blow up and he said it just will not deploy in the event of an emergency. So I'm like now what do I do, I have a vehicle I cannot drive and the last ones to mess with it was them! they asked if the airbag light came on why didn't I bring back in? I said because I have been on military orders for awhile. They also said initially it was covered under warranty and now they are saying it will cost $732 to get it fixed! I called vw care and they just said my car was out of warranty and it maybe a worksman issue but the dealership will have to work with you on that. Not to my surprise but vw of chattanooga chose not to provide any means of solution or customer service.
The problem I'm having with my 2014 Passat is that one day out the blue my airbag light came on. I parked and turn of the car thinking that would solve the problem. When I started my car back up, the airbag is still on and now the horn and also the buttons on the steering wheel isn't working anymore. I have not hit anything or had any accidents period. I see many complaints from vw owners about the same issue. . . . But I don't see any recalls about this problem. This is a big issue for me because I live in illinois and my car horn doesn't work.
Tl the contact owns a 2012 Volkswagen Passat. The contact stated that the passenger side air bag warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to joe pecheles Volkswagen (3021 evans st, greenville, nc 27858, (252) 756-1135) where it was diagnosed that the seat sensor needed to be replaced, but was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. The failure mileage was 60,000.
While driving the vehicle make a right turn the airbag in the steering wheel opened without impact or sudden movements. It did not break through the steering wheel casement but indicator light came on and all the functions on the steering wheel stopped working.
Yesterday, as I was turning out of my driveway, I heard an unusual clicking noise coming from my steering wheel. I drove to work (approx 2 miles from my home) and parked car. When I started my car 8 hours later, my dash screen read "error airbag" and the airbag light was on. The clicking noise is still present but doesn't occur every time I turn the wheel. . . Only sometimes. This morning,(error light still illuminated) as I was pulling out of my driveway, I noticed my control functions on steering wheel were no longer working. I am terrified that my airbag will deploy. My vehicle has not been involved in any accidents and I am the only owner of the vehicle. My vehicle is not part of the takata recall but the issues I am having seem very similar.
Takata recall. I tried to do factory recall airbag, but my airbag module is not working. The dealer doesn't/cannot do anything about it. Airbag indicator sometimes blinks and sometimes doesn’t. My Volkswagen Passat is 2015.
While driving my 2013 vw Passat, the airbag light came on, on the dashboard and started beeping. When I pulled into my garage, I noticed that the horn no longer worked and none of the steering wheel functions work anymore. I have only 56,718 miles on the car and the vw dealer says it is not covered under a recall and I would have to pay out of pocket for the repair because my warranty deductible is $500. This is a safety issue and vw should be required to repair these airbag issues, not us, the consumer. This is not something we (the consumers) are causing, this is a vw quality issue.
Update June 2019 - now my car has 53,000 miles. My replaced clock spring has failed again. No horn, or steering wheel controls and the airbag light is on. This is 8 months/10 miles after I had it replaced. This is a safety issue. I am requesting that dot NHTSA investigate a safety issue with clock spring part on my 2015 vw Passat, which controls both the air bags and the horn. I purchased the car new in sept 2015. I started my car with 42,500 miles and the airbag light came on and stayed on. The vehicle was stationary in a flat parking lot the first time I noticed the air bag light. When I drove the vehicle and turned the steering wheel there were clicking noises coming from the steering wheel area. When I got home, I googled a couple possible causes and scheduled the vehicle in to a mechanic. Before I could get vehicle in for service, the horn and other steering wheel controls went out. I was left without airbags and a horn on a vehicle that I drive daily. The mechanic determined that the clock spring needs to be replaced.
Air bag light on for driver airbag and made everything on steering wheel stop working.
My vehicle was making a ticking sound when turning, then out of nowhere a error message came up that said error airbag, and the air bag light came on. I looked up to see if it was a recall, since I bought the vehicle used, it is for the clockspring, when I used the VIN search it did not so as an active recall for my vehicle.
Everything on my steering wheel stopped working( buttons, horn, etc. ) passenger airbag light is on as well. Does not work when the car is moving or stationary.
"takata recall" air bag light is on when I started vehicle up.
Airbag light stays illuminated. None of the steering wheel electricsl works, including the horn.
Clock spring failure!!! clock spring failure!!! clock spring failure!!! while moving and executing a right turn a crunching noise was heard from the center of the steering wheel. The airbag light immediately came on. Also, the horn & all steering wheel buttons/controls failed. This car was purchased a week prior from carvana. 49,300 miles on the odo. Too late to return it. The clock spring failure means that the airbag system is not active until the part is replaced, installed, and the system is reset. A quick read thru of these numerous complaints from model year 2015 show these failures of a safety-critical part over the last 18 months are now occurng with increasing frequency. It is quite obvious to me that vwoa/chattanooga installed the same defective part, from the same supplier, that fails after about 2. 5-3 years in service. This problem is no different than that of the thousands of identical failures in vw Passat model years 2012, 2013, & 2014 leading to a recall of the defective component. Immediate action is required by dot to readdress and recall this previously recalled part. Vw dealers are currently charging 2015 Passat owners between $500 and $800 to install a $35 part. If their Passat is older than 2015, the part is installed gratis as part of that recall. . Vw will not act until prompted/ordered to do so. Something is rotten in wolfsburg again! let's quickly act before more are harmed/killed because an airbag system failed to operate when parameters dictated it should have deployed.
Tl the contact owns a 2014 Volkswagen Passat. While the contact attempted to turn the steering wheel in a parking lot, a clicking noise was heard and the air bag indicator illuminated. A week later, the horn seized. The vehicle was taken to Volkswagen of murrieta (951-249-7072, located at 41300 date st, murrieta, CA 92562) where it was determined that there was no recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no warranty. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 126,000.
Feb 2018 vw replaced the airbags and clock spring. Approximately one year later, the airbag lights came on together with the abs and tire pressure lights. I have no power to the steering wheel, no horn etc. My steering is getting tighter and tighter to turn. I'm sure this poses some sort of a safety risk especially when this is the only vehicle I have. I wish vw would correctly identify the problem and issue a nationwide remedy to cure this defect. The sooner the better since vw has known about this since 2011. All of this happened overnight while my car was parked. I got into it to go to work and this is what happened. Please help your consumers to cure this defect and not put a band-aid on it.
Takata recall I looked up vehicles VIN an noticed 6 recalls on it I had got the issue fixed and I noticed my sensor in my tire was blinking I took it back to the dealership guy working told me only a sensor I need to pay for which I have already looked up an seen that it was a recall on the tire sensor on the 24 of February I'm riding down patton st in greensboro nc I noticed my airbag light was blinking steering wheel started to shake rattled me I pulled over and airbags deployed I began to get in the car I'm not sure why the airbags came out I had to go to the hospital due to the airbags hittn me in the face I have reached out to the dealership spoke with supervisor ebbie also disrespectful I'm only wanting my car fixed because of an issue that was recalled on Volkswagen vehicles.
