36 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2008 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 02/09/2019

My wife and I purchased a 2008 vw Passat 2. 0 sedan new from a vw dealership and recently (within the past 6-8 months the air bag light came on from time to time). Because the vehicle is not a primary vehicle for me or my wife it is seldom driven, but about 2 to3 months ago I notice the air bag light coming on which immediately concerned me and I remember hearing about the takata air bag recall, but due to my/my wife work schedule it was hard to get to a dealer, but I recall receiving notifications, but I honestly will have search for them. Anyway I took the vehicle to hagerty Volkswagen and they told me that I missed three(3) factory recalls and if I wanted them done now I would have to pay out my pocket. The air bag light is on, I am afraid of being injured seriously or killed. The dealership says it's they can do about the issue because the vehicle is one which was not tagged as needing attention, that's mighty nice that mike hagerty of orland park feels that way. What I want know is does the NHTSA feel that car manufacture are so honest that if a tax paying american citizen should base on the word of a global manufacture who already has been caught using defective parts. I received something about a recall, I expect that the NHTSA has enough experience as to correct the manufacture to repair a clearly dangerous situation in which and others may perish from an unforeseen explosive steering default that the manufacture and takata are making every effort to avoid any responsibility/liability by simply denying a faulty bag was placed in this particular vehicle. I have always look upon every individual as an equal, I would appreciate it if whom ever processes this complaint. I do not want to die in a car that I paid for according to the contract that I signed, can vollkswagen of America and it parent company do the same. I pray your agency will represent me.

37 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 01/30/2019

Loss of airbags, power brakes, power steering, transmission shifting functions, engine hesitation. Indicator lights on dash flash or stay on steady include: coil, steering wheel, air bag, abs, image of car skidding, brakes, and tire inflation. The speedometer does not work and the fuel gauge just keeps sweeping. The rev limiter does not work either. The auto start feature is non functional and the push button to stop the motor from running must be pressed twice instead of once. Car had this discrepancy on 30 Jan 2019, 06 Feb 2019, and now 27 Feb 2019. The dealers keep working on a grounding nut but the problem keeps persisting. Problem has always accursed immediately after starting the car, not while driving.

41 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 11/18/2018

I was parked on flat ground while starting my car this morning and noticed the air bag light on the dash board stayed light. Then I noticed the stereo control on the steering wheel was not light and did not work. At work I did some research and found that it could be the clock spring. When I got home from work I tested my horn to find that my horn does not work. My vehicle has 47773 miles and I bought it new. I'm almost positive it is the clock spring after all the research I have done. I feel vw should extend the recall past 2014 because it seems obvious that the issue continued into 2015 models.

48 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 09/16/2018

My 2013 vw Passat has 56,000 miles. I replaced at 33,000 on 12/29/2016 at a vw dealer that is no longer in business, based on their diagnostic, the clock spring and airbag harness in the steering wheel. It costed me $610. Fast forward on 09/16/2018 it turns out that I have the same problem, no controls in the wheel at all and airbag light on. The only symptom was a crunch sound in the steering wheel while turning and the airbag light came on right away. A vw dealership stated that it is unusual for a clock spring to go bad that quickly, there's some cars that don't need a clock spring replacement at all and mine needs a second one already at 56,000. Through a phone call Volkswagen of America stated that won't stay behind the problem. I strongly feel that it's a defective/malfunction part that affects my wife's and my children's safety since they are primarily using the car. Currently we're driving the car without any front airbag protection! please investigate this and have the ones who's fault it is fix the problem! thank you!.

49 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 09/16/2018

Last month, September 2018, while driving my car on surface streets, I started to hear a cracking noise coming from my steering wheel whenever I turned the wheel. My airbag light also came on. As I continued to drive, I was worried that my steering would fail from all the noise I was hearing from the steering column. Once I got home, I researched online what the problem might be and I also verified with the vw dealership that it was a broken clock spring coil and my airbag and all electrical components to the steering wheel failed and I was driving my car without the main safety feature which is the airbag. I went to the ventura vw dealership on September 20,2018 to have them replace the clock spring coil. They kept my car overnight and I had to pay for a rental car from them. From my understanding, vw knew that the clock spring coil could break and therefore they issued the vw recall # 15v483000 in 8/14/2015, to place a protective cover over the steering wheel clock spring. I had this recall already done to my car prior to this issue happening. Therefore it seems that vw's recall fix did not prevent the clock spring from breaking in my car. The ventura vw dealership service manager attempted to have vw reimburse me for this issue but they would not. It seems like this should be fixed by vw since they knew this is a problem and attempted to fix it with a recall in 2015 which failed. My car's clock spring broke despite having the vw recall protective cover in place and it was an expensive repair.

52 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 09/08/2018

Clock spring recall - Volkswagen not honoring the recall for my VIN #. Steering wheel started to click last night upon turning while driving, and now the airbag light is out. Took it into the dealership today and they said it will be a $700 repair for the clock spring. 54 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 08/11/2018

We took our car in for service on 8/11/18 due to the air bag light coming on and steering wheel functions no longer working. The dealership confirmed the issue with the clockspring and stated that because our car was out of warranty that we would be responsible for repairs. We stated that this seems like an issue with defective equipment since the car is only 5 yrs old as well as a safety issue with the vehicle. We escalated the issue to the corporate customer service. The rep stated again that they would not cover the repairs because the car was past its warranty. We conducted our own research on recalls for this vehicle as there has been others (I. E. Air bag and adblue heater). We located the 2015 recall on the clock spring and discussed this with vw customer service as well. They refused to acknowledge our vehicle as one of the ones affected even though we are experiencing the same issues. We are concerned with this safety issue as we are not able to use the horn, the airbag is inoperable as well.

57 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

My clock spring was supposedly replaced in 08/17 by a vw dealer before I bought the car from chevy. When I took my car in because air bag light was on and no steering wheel controls worked, I was informed that I had an open circuit in my clock spring and since it had already been repaired by the recall I would have to pay for it this time.

58 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 07/20/2018

At around 47,000 miles I began hearing a clicking noise when turning my steering wheel. After a day or two of this my airbag light came on. I lost function of my horn and found that out while traveling at highway speeds when some one was merging into my lane without checking to see if it was clear. Failure Date: 07/01/2018

There was a recall on clockspring, and the repair was a clockspring cover that was repaired on my vehicle in March of 2016. July 2018 my clockspring had to be completely replaced costing $650. There was also an airbag recall that caused my horn to stop working, airbag light to come on, at the same exact time the clockspring stopped working. I took my vehicle to a dealership 2 days ago to have the clockspring looked at and the recall on the airbag repaired. The dealership informed me that I would have to purchase a new clockspring because only the cover was considered a recall, however obvioiusly this was not a sufficient clockspring repair.

65 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 06/24/2018

The air bag clock spring was originally replaced by recall in 2014. While driving over the weekend and making a turn I heard a noise and felt a thump in the steering wheel. The air bag light came on and I lost all controls associated with the steering wheel. Refrained from driving the car called the dealer on Monday 6-25-18 coulded schedule appt until wed the 27th. On the 27th deer diagnosed it as a broken clock spring. . . . Again. Said they do the repair in conjunction with takada air bag recall repair but that I would still owe $450 to repair clockspring. I protested the repair bill and said it should be covered since it was repaired previously. They said I could call vw myself and have them review the claim. The claim is pending with ve for the third day and I am without vehicle until claim is resolved. There continues to be an issue with these faulty clockspring and vw needs to make good on the previous recall repair.

66 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

My steering wheel has been making a crunching noise. While driving on the interstate, I got off at an exit to purchase food. I was very concerned since I still had an hours drive home and was unsure if the car was safe or not.

67 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 06/06/2018

While I was home, I noticed my airbag light came on and the buttons on my steering wheel didn't work. A few days later I was driving on the highway and a car almost changed lanes on top of me. I tried to honk my horn and nothing came out. Thankfully the car swerved back in it's lane because I didn't have anywhere to go. I took my car to the dealership and they told me the clock spring needed replaced. In 2016 I had my clock spring replaced as part of a recall (69l2). I've recently learned that many other people are having a similar issue with their recall-replaced clock spring. Volkswagen is not acknowledging the problem with the recall work and clock spring being faulty and will only replace it if I spend over $700 for another diagnostic and repair.

69 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 05/24/2018

Takata recall- had the recall fixed. Clock spring is broken again- airbag light is back on and steering wheel controls are no longer working. Vw says "tough luck" it's not covered a second time even though this fix didn't even last a year. Car is currently in the shop for a host of other issues surrounding the emissions recall and sensors that aren't working yet again.

70 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 05/19/2018

Clock spring failed after being "fixed" by previous recall. In early 2016 I had the recall on my clock spring. I took it to a dealer where they put on the cover that was supposed to fix the clock spring issue. Two days ago my airbag light came on while driving and today I noticed my horn and the controls on my steering wheel do not work. Vw will not fix the part even though it wasn't actually replaced during the previous recall.
