3 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 02/09/2019

Takata recall: I want to voice my concern over the policy of Volkswagen not to issue loaner vehicles to owners with the takata driver side air bags. After several phone conversations with a representative of their case management team (rcm), their conclusion is that it not a safety issue granting the need for them to issue a loaner vehicle. I disagree to the point that we are currently not driving vehicle because we do not feel safe. And to make matters worse, they could not tell me when parts are going to be available to fix it. I know several car manufactures have loaner programs for their customers with this issue. I think the NHTSA should have a policy that all car manufactures should have to issue loaner vehicles to their customers with this issue. To be clear, we have not had an air bag deployment with our vehicle, I just wanted the NHTSA to be aware of what car manufactures are telling their customers.

5 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 06/20/2018

Steering wheel, upon parking, made a strange noise and then what sounded like a break of a plastic clip. Noise continued as I turned wheel the other way. Error on drivers side air bag appeared on display as well air bag icon appearing on console. Immediately called dealership and asked if car safe to drive and was told to bring car as soon as possible. Was only 2 miles away so I did and they were nice enough to look at car right then. Turned out to be clockspring which had been replaced in February of 2016, an initial recall of clock spring. So now the recall workaround needs a workaround.

6 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 02/19/2018

Clock spring has failed in less than a month after clock spring recall in January of 2018. Steering controls are not functional, air bag error light is on, I assume driver's side airbag is currently non functional. Turned the vehicle and heard a pop sound originating from the steering column, lost steering control, and air bag error immediately followed.

7 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 11/18/2017

8 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2007 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 05/21/2017

Volkswagen Passat 2007 Passat water leak footwell that causes passenger side airbag damaged : suddenly after a rainy day, water comes from sunroof to the passenger side footwell and made carpet wet and stores water below the carpet. That caused passenger side 's airbag malfunction results in airbag fault. I went to the dealer and they told me it happens with some vw cars and please get your car checked for water leak. They told that they are not responsible for neither the airbag nor the water leak. I believe there was too much water below the carpet which directly puts the integrity of the safety in danger since it the electronic parts and wires were in water for long time.

9 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 03/08/2017

The vehicle steering wheel clock spring was repaired under recall from vw in Jan 2016 at 42000 miles and failed again at around 46000 miles, leaving my car without driver side airbags. It is quite unsafe to have such a crucial safety part to fail so regularly and unexpectedly. I believed that the recalled clock spring that got installed in my car is also defective.

10 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 01/10/2017

Takata recall. An entire year has almost passed since being notified that the driver's side airbag in my vehicle is affected by the takata recall, yet I still have not received any notification on the manufacturer remedying the situation. All the dealer has to do is replace the airbag, that is the remedy! why am I waiting an entire year for the dealer to replace a defective driver airbag that has the potential to kill me if I get into a minor accident?! this is absolutely unacceptable and I demand a remedy free of charge soonest.

15 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2006 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 09/13/2016

Takata recall I have an '06 Passat. Why is it a year after I got the recall letter that I'm still waiting for it to be replaced? I have a 6 year old daughter that I drop off and pick up from school in this car with the killer air bag! my passenger side air bag sensor "sometimes" works. Why the entire car hasn't been recalled, only god knows. This is ridiculous and I'm ashamed more hasn't been done to ensure the safety of passengers of these cars made with short cuts and cheap parts. My life and my daughters life is worth far more than another cheap seat in front of a killer air bag. This is suicide and shame on those who are delaying the fixes because that is potential attempted murder on millions of people and their children.

19 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 04/01/2016

Takata recall. I have submitted a request to the dealer that I purchased the vehicle from requesting an update for the driver side air bag repair. To date I have not received a reply. The dealer is serramonte Volkswagen, 711 serramonte blvd. , colma, CA 94014. I purchased the vehicle new in February 2014 and received safety recall 69m9 in April 2016 from Volkswagen of America, inc. , 3800 hamlin road, auburn hills, mi 48326. I would like to know when I can expect this recall to be addressed.

20 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 04/01/2016

"takata recall". I am driving this vehicle as I do not have extra cars laying around. My son drives this car. It is very scary to me that vw has had no recalls done, why? other models have had some cars repaired. I am unsure of the difficulty with vw and why they have not had their driver's side airbags fixed. There is no timeline only a suggestion to "drive the care impacted less frequently". Does vw or takata think everyone just uses a car for extra or fun. If I had that kind of car, a for fun car, it would not be a vw Passat. We bought this car because it was practical and safe. Now I have to worry if my airbag goes off it could kill myself, my husband or my son. I am frustrated that we are told to not drive the car so much and that they can do nothing but by the way. . . You could be killed. It is stressful that you cannot sell this car to be rid of it because of this recall. What can you do? when will Volkswagen have a fix, why are they not fixing any airbags yet? we were notified in April 2016 and it is six month later with no update nothing.

21 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2006 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 02/09/2016

Takata recall the driver's side airbag was recalled over a year ago, and it still hasn't been replaced. Vw of America gives no timeline as to when it will be replaced. This has gone way beyond a reasonable time period in which the replacements could be obtained. My vehicle is not safe currently. Vw says it's safe to drive, but not safe to get into an accident. I am unable to drive it due to this serious safety problem.

22 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

29 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2001 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 09/24/2008

I have a vw Passat 2001 model. I was driving my car to office. At around 8. 10 am on 09/24/2008, a car collided from back while I was waiting at a signal. My bumper was damaged a little and my front passenger side air bag cover had popped out. Immediately I called my insurance and reported the accident explaining the series of events. The other party involved in accident complained his accident to his insurance company and accepted his fault, as per which their insurance company agreed on to pay for the damages. A estimator took an estimate after viewing the damaged car. A couple of days later there was a check issued on my name and also list of repairs to be done. The popped out airbag was not considered a part of accident by the estimator. I tried to clearly explain him saying that his client has seen the pop out happened because of the accident and has agreed on to proceed through his insurance. When I explained all this estimator was adamant that it was not a part of accident and said it would take 25-30 $ to fix it and as per which I took to a few mechanics to get it done and no one was willing to touch the air bag saying it is vulnerable and needs to be taken to the dealer. When I took to the dealer he was saying its going to incur a huge cost as it is airbag and the entire dash board needs to be removed to get this thing fixed. I have no idea what needs to be done about this and needed help in this aspect. I have all the claim numbers and also the required information in this aspect. I don't think my car is safe enough to drive as the airbag can deflate any tine. Please guide me in this aspect.

30 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2006 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 06/12/2008

Air bag fault light keeps coming on. This is the fourth time it has come on. First came on 10/2006 dealer replaced malfunctioning r/front side airbag, connecters to harness were faulty as well. 1/2008 came on again, dealer repaired faulty wiring for passenger side. 5/2008 came on again, dealer dio found upper limit exceeded drivers side unit, faulty electrical wiring again. 6/2008 air bag light on again, dealer inspection found wires for drivers side front crash sensor faulty/poor contact. 6/2008 to present my airbag light is on again, have not taken it in yet cause I'm quite annoyed. Something is wrong with the whole airbag system and I pray to god that if I do have an accident all of my airbags will deploy but with all the repairs done I don't think they will. I would appreciate your help.

31 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2004 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 12/15/2007

Side curtains airbag deployed for a non-crash impact while driving on a road at city speed after a snowstorm. There was no collision. There is evidence of very minor undercarriage damage to front rim of less than $225. Consequence is over $2800 in damage to interior of car from airbag, and surcharge from insurance total cost to us with airbag damage, surcharges, and car rental will be over $5000. The crash sensing algorithm seems to be too sensitive and may recognize certain non-crash impacts (wheel, tire and undercarriage impacts) as deployable events.

34 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2000 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 07/05/2006

Premature driver's side air bag failure. I have received an air bag fault' warning code. Further diagnostics have indicated that replacement of the driver's side air bag is necessary. This on a 6-year-old vehicle. Considering that there are vehicles 3 times as old that are still on their original air bags, I would consider this failure unacceptable.

35 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2003 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 11/12/2005

Driving a 2003 vw Passat glx wagon on a road under construction and the passenger side curtain airbags deployed for no apparent reason. Luckily, this shocking incident didn't cause us to get in an accident, but it did fill the car with smoke and we had to pull over immediately and get our 2 year old daughter out of her car seat. I brought the car to a vw dealership (king Volkswagen, gaithersburg, MD) and they charged me $100 to look at it and then told me that the car sustained damage to the undercarriage. They told me that the car probably hit a curb at 35 mph and came to a sudden stop. I was a passenger in the car at the time and I know that the car was not slowed down at all, and we didn't even notice hitting anything. Because this road was under construction we may have brushed a man hole cover that was sticking up into the road, but not hard enough to slow the car down or to cause any serious damage. I looked at the impact point in the undercarriage and it is just a small dent to a metal cup. I took the car to my mechanic and he was shocked that this small dent would have caused the airbags to blow. The car does not require any repairs except for the replacement of the airbags. I complained to vw corporate and they had me bring the car back to the dealer to take pictures and readings from the airbag sensor. They sent that information to vw corporate and corporate called me back and said that this was considered to be an accident that was my fault.
