37 Air Bag problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 04/22/2025

I received notice of this safety recall, and contacted ganley vw of bedford, 250 broadway Ave, bedford, OH 44146, (888) 650-9208. They scheduled an appointment for me to have my airbag fixed per the recall, but then they cancelled my appointment because the parts were on backorder with no foreseeable date to fix the issue. They said they'd call me when they could schedule, but it has been months and I have not received a call. I called again today, 4/22/25, and was told parts are still on backorder and I cannot schedule a time to get the issue fixed. I was told maybe in 2 more months I could get it fixed.

38 Air Bag problem of the 2017 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 04/18/2025

Today, as my wife was driving home, she heard a "crunch" noise while making a turn. Afterwards, the airbag light came on, and her steering wheel botton functions are not working, including her car horn. This all relates to the clockspring. This will be the third time we have had the clockspring replaced. This is extremely inconvenient, as the dealership is an hour away. The original clockspring didn't break until October 2023. The second broke and replaced in August of 2024. Now, we are scheduling to have the clockspring replaced again, 6 months later. I am unsure why the part is so unreliable. Whomever manufactures the part needs to do a far better job. This was our first new car, and now we regret the purchase due to this headache.

The vw dealers have started that they have no eta on replacement parts and are unable to order them currently. Vw corporate has stated that there is no stop drive initiative and to still drive the vehicle. They are refusing to take responsibility for the potential consequences this recall could have on the driver of the vehicle.

40 Air Bag problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 04/17/2025

In April 2025, my 2013 Volkswagen Passat developed serious issues: the steering wheel cover is lifted, horn and steering wheel controls stopped working, lights malfunctioned, and now the vehicle will not start. It also has an open takata airbag recall with no parts available until “after June” I contacted the dealership by phone and spoke to lykoto at molle dealership in kansas city. They have refused to provide a tow or a loaner vehicle. Due to this I have not had an in-person inspection. I no longer feel safe driving the car. The manufacturer has been notified of this via email due to their services being closed on the weekends but will contact over the phone Monday morning. Symptoms worsened over months and the no-start issue appeared recently. Will be taking to a private mechanic ASAP to have the no-start issue confirmed.

And the possible outcome of the airbag unintentionally going off is serious injury or death to driver and passengers. 47 Air Bag problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 03/14/2025

The driver-side front airbag in my vehicle is under a safety recall due to the risk of it deploying improperly and releasing metal fragments, which could cause serious injury or death. I initially contacted the dealership in March and was told that I was not affected by the national backorder, and that the replacement part would arrive by early may. I have now been informed that the part will not be available until September. This delay is unacceptable and directly endangers my safety. I live in a region with high summer heat and humidity, conditions known to increase the risk of inflator failure in recalled airbags. Volkswagen, as the manufacturer, has failed to meet its recall obligations. I have contacted their customer service, and instead of offering a timeline, solution, or safe alternative, I was referred back to the dealership, who also had no answers. Volkswagen has provided no transportation assistance, no escalation process, and no accountability, even though they are responsible for ensuring the timely repair of this safety-critical component. The part has not been inspected or replaced by anyone, and I am being forced to drive a vehicle I know could cause serious harm. There are no warning lamps or error messages in the vehicle, but the danger is explicitly outlined in the recall itself. Volkswagen’s delay, lack of communication, and refusal to assist puts my safety, and the safety of others, at serious risk.

65 Air Bag problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

I received a safety recall leather from Volkswagen on December 2024. Nhtsa: 24v834 subject: safety recall 69e6 - driver frontal airbag inflator since November 2024 my airbag light on my dashboard came on, I checked for recalls and there was none at that time. It said airbag error on the dashboard. A month later I received the above mentioned recalled letter and took immediate action. ( please keep in mind the light was on at all times, it didn't make any sounds, it wouldn't turn off at all) I schedule the recall service repair online on the Volkswagen website and came to my appointment on [xxx]. At the dealer I had to wait for 4 hours for the repair to be done and once they gave me my car back the air bag error and icon on my dashboard kept turning on and off every few minutes. Keep in mind the light was on before but it was solid on at all times but now it has a beeping sound that goes on and off while driving it multiple times a day and makes me think the repair was made with another faulty airbag inflator or there is another manufacturer problem with the air bag system of the car. I am [xxx] is my only car, I have to drive 45 minutes every week for my doctors appointments. The sound of the air bag going on and off is very annoying but my biggest concern is that being [xxx] with a faulty air bag system is a very scary situation to be in. I would like for the dealer to inspect all my airbags and make sure they are all working fine. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
