The car is a 2004 Chrysler Sebring convertible. The VIN of the car is 1C3EL55R94_. Plastic covering over front headlamp housing has gotten fogged over entire outside. The amount of light thrown by the headlamps is reduced. I notice this on most cars as they get older. This is a safety related issue and needs to be addressed. Cleaning products sold by auto parts stores to clear this situation are worthless. This issue happened on September 1, 2009.

The car involved is a 2002 Chrysler town and country. I am wanting to file a complaint on headlight lens quality/safety. The lens I am referring to are the composite "lexan"lenses used on most vehicles today. After just a few very short years the coating peels and the plastic breaks down causing poor light transfer and very unsafe driving conditions. "Chrysler"has denied any assistance to replace the lenses on my 2002 vehicle with 62,000 miles stating that it is way beyond any warranty period. I consider this beside the point. We're talking about the safety of millions who rely on safe lighting to operate their vehicles safely. The extreme costs of the lens assemblies makes simply replacing them an unacceptable option. Mine are not yet hazed over on my 2002 but the coating is peeling due to uv breakdown, my 1994 is yellowed and hazed and definitely suffers from poor light transmission. I know for a fact that most other manufacturers also have this problem(I am an auto technician)why does the consumer have to always bear the expense of something that is such a safety concern just because the manufacture does not care or wants to sell cheaper grade parts to increase profit. I never had this problem with old glass sealed beams on my older cars and they were just a few dollars compared to hundreds for composites. I feel the govt. Needs to review this condition and make the manufacturers stand behind such an important safety issue . I have literally had hundred of customers complain of this problem over the last 15 years or so. But now it hits homes and it affects me and my family so I figured it was time to make waves, especially after being told by the dist rep they wouldn't help at all . I know the imports also suffer from this hazing problem but I also know they are willing to assist as goodwill repairs, etc. I really feel there should be a recall investigation done concerning this as a safety issue, all personal dissatisfaction aside. That includes all makes/models. Thank you for your time. The failure date was March 26, 2007.

The vehicle having this issue was a 1999 Jeep Laredo. The VIN of this vehicle was 1J4G268S5X_. The plastic head light covers of my 1999 Jeep grand cherokee limited have clouded over both on the outside and inside. Therefore, making it almost impossible for the head lights to shine through this plastic covering. The dealer informed me that they do not replace these plastic covers. Instead, I must purchase the entire head light assembly units for both sides of the vehicle. The cost of replacing this is approximately $700. It seems to me that when these plastic head light covers cloud up, a safety issue has occurred. In addition, it is a puzzle to me why one must replace the entire working head light units just because the covers have clouded. Thank you. Both fog light lenses have shattered for no apparent reason while highway driving. Mazda Tribute is 8 months old. Taken to dealer for repair after first one broke, and shop man said they have replaced about six of them. The lenses are glass, and obviously very fragile glass at that. Was told that warranty would not cover as it is due to road hazard. Shop man also said at the time, that it would cost about $190. To repair, and I might want to hold off until there are some after market products available that would be less expensive. Since that time, the second lens shattered, also during highway driving. I have notified Mazda USA, and let them know I am disappointed in the less than adequate quality of the lenses. This issue happened on Jan. 4, 2003.

The VIN of this vehicle was JA4LX31F94_. Both headlights on our 2004 Mitsubishi Outlander are cracked in a similar pattern, bottom outer corner to upper inside corner, there are 2 -3 cracks on each headlight. This was not done by rocks, or any collision, considering they are so
similar in appearance on both headlights, it must be a defect in the plastic coverings. We have not attempted to replace these, since the estimate to fix this problem consists of replacing the whole headlight, costing almost $600. 00 per headlight. The vehicle was a 1999 Nissan Sentra. There was crash involved with this Nissan Sentra. The plastic headlights on my 1999 Nissan are opaque. The light output is diminished at least 40%. The dealer wants $200 for replacement of plastic headlights. I then noticed that many cars that are over 5 years old have the same problem, diminished lighting due to poor plastic headlights. I hope you can get Nissan and all other makes involved to replace the plastic headlights for free. The failure date was 05/03/06.

I purchased the 2003 Nissan Maximathe end of January 2003, I was never told that the headlights on these cars are easily removeable, by simply popping them out with a screw driver. So on may 21, my car's headlights were stolen. I complained to the Nissan corp but was told that there was noth they could do about the problem. They are aware of the situation, in fact they have already introduced the 2004 model with the headlights tamper proof. The police told me that this model car is very popular with the thieves and I should not keep this c ar in the street for more then 10mins at a time. So basically, I bought a car to keep under lock and key and not use at all. Why can't Nissan recall these cars and fix the problem, because every time the lights are stolen, the demage is more then $2,000. 00, also what happens if I am a distance away and they steal my headlights, I will not be able to drive back home or risk driving with no headlights and maybe hurt myself or someone else. Please check into this matter and advise me. This issue happened on May. 21, 2003.

The car involved is a 1997 SAAB 900. My concern is not about my car. My complaint is about the type of bright blue/white headlamps (halogen?) that I see with increasing frequency. I do a lot of highway driving, and whether in the city or in less well lit areas. When a car with these headlights approaches me the effect is like having flashbulbs go off in front of my eyes. I'm literally blinded and instantly become a compromised driver. The effect is only somewhat diminished when a car with these headlamps is behind me. I can switch my rearview mirror to night but can't do much about the sideview mirrors. I've taken an informal poll with friends and family and the greater percentage of people have a similar response to mine. My eye doctor said that people with fair skin and light eyes (like me) have a much greater sensitivity to light. Help! I don't want to be an unsafe driver and I feel defenseless against these piercing lights! thank you. Dt.

The car was a 2005 Toyota Highlander. The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) was JTEEP21A15_. Defective headlight lenses
in July 2006, a 1-inch diameter opaque "discoloration " appeared in left front headlamp lens, directly in front of area closest to halogen bulb. Besides impairing light output, I was fearful that defective area would eventually break or crack, allowing water to contact halogen bulb - causing it to explode when hot. (2005 Toyota Highlander was 18-months old at that time, with 25,263 miles. ) Toyota replaced same under warranty. Now same lens defect / discoloration is occurring to right front headlamp plastic lens at 45,000 miles, and again fearful that lens failure will result in exploding halogen bulb. Unsure it Toyota will cover this second repair. Headlamps and bulbs are original factory equipment. This headlight concealment device problem happened on July 12, 2006.

The 2001 Volvo S80 headlight & daytime running light system. The 2001 Volvo S80 headlight & daytime running light system. The dashboard lights and daytime running lights are on at start up. During darkness there is no indication that the night time headlamps are in the off position (because the dashboard lights are on and daytime lamps illuminate the road to some extent). The unsafe consequence is that by not turning on the night time headlamps in darkness, the 2001 Volvo S80 operates void of tail lamp illumination. My wife is the primary driver of our Volvo. She combats the problem by leaving the night time headlamps on at all times. When I drive the Volvo, I have a habit of turning the lights off after use. Many times, my wife has forgotten to turn the night time headlamps back on in darkness and has been in harms way as she drives void of tail lamp illumination in darkness! this is a safety issue.
