The vehicle involved was a 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe. As soon as we drove our used 2008 Tahoe off the dealer lot we had a tail light out that they claim was just a light bulb blown but it still continues to turn off and on by itself. We've had to replace the drivers seat belt because it wouldn't retract all the way. The dash cracked almost all the way from end to end and it is garaged unless we are out driving around so there should be no reason for it to crack. The driver side chrome door handle is peeling and has cut our hands. We've had to have the alternator replaced right after we bought it as well. This whole truck is a lemon! the truck is currently in the dealership because it wouldn't start and kept throwing a code "service security theft system. " haven't heard from them saying what is exactly wrong with it now. It was Monday, April 28, 2014 when this tail light switch issue occurred.

The vehicle involved is a 2006 Chrysler town and country. The vehicle identification number (VIN) of the car was 1A4GP45R96_. When pulling out of a parking lot flames were seen in the side view mirror coming from the driver's side rear tail light. The plastic light encasing was kicked out and snow thrown on the flames. The blinkers, dash board light, and speedometer no longer work. This problem occurred on December 17, 2013.

The vehicle was a 2007 Chrysler Pt Cruiser. Vehicle identification number (VIN) of the vehicle is 3A4FYF8B67_. The multi function switch on the steering column just stops working. When this happens you lose head lights, tail lights, turn signals, windshield wipers, and windshield spray. The switch has been replaced twice now and the same problem keeps occurring. It either fails totally or works intermittently. You cannot drive the car at night or when it's raining - it's a major safety issue. This tail light switch issue occurred Sunday, August 25, 2013.

The car is a 2013 Dodge Durango. The dash indicator for the right turn signal began flashing rapidly. Upon inspection I found that the right rear turn signal was not functioning. Since my dealer is over 50 miles away I was able to easily remove the tail light and replace the bulb. Since that incident I have replaced 3 more bulbs. Today's replacement made me investigate more closely and found that the bulb was ok but it had tilted slightly. Manually moving the bulb caused the bulb to function again. Is the socket faulty? the right signal has never stopped working. This issue happened on Sat., Jun. 1, 2013.

The vehicle having this issue was a 2014 Dodge Charger. The new line of Dodge cars (challenger, dart, Charger) have a led ring of lights as the rear tail lights on the cars. They are way too bright for tail lights (notice I didn't say brake lights). They need to be changed out with softer/dimmer lights. It's like following someone with high-beam tail lights. I hope there is something that can be done to make Dodge stop doing this, and prevent other auto makers from installing bright led lights on the rear of cars. This issue happened on Friday, May. 2, 2014.

The car involved was a 2007 Ford Edge. The vehicle identification number (VIN) of the car was 2FMDK39C67_. Tail light blinkers are melting into the sockets. I have to replace the bulbs once a year because they blow, I was also told by a mechanic that the reason my speaker blew on the right side of the car was do to extra electrical power. This problem occurred on 04/06/2009.

The vehicle having this issue was a 2010 Ford F-150. Have been having electrical issues including failing backup camera at night and tail lights not working (dangerous at night) as well as fuses blowing. Dealer could not duplicate but dealer states there is corrosion in the fuse panel because water entered the vehicle. There are several instances where Ford is aware of this issue where water is entering the vehicle on the dot. Gov and other websites. They are refusing to do anything about it. Please do something about this, Ford knows there is an issue and there is no reason for them do get away with issues that may cause fatal car accidents including tail lights going out while driving. It was Tuesday, July 19, 2011 when this tail light switch issue occurred.

Acura Rsx 2002 to 2006 owners have experienced a flood in their rear tire well, causing tail lights, in some to rust out. This could cause a safety issue, particularly when driving at night and your tail lights have gone out. There is no recall on this issue, yet the blogs on Acura Rsx web site are huge! it's an expensive fix and not always covered by warranties. My car jack is rusted out and the spare tire won't come out due to excessive rust. It was Mon., Jul. 2, 2012 when this tail light switch issue occurred.

The vehicle is a 2006 Acura Rsx. The VIN of this vehicle is JH4DC54896_. Water leaks in to the trunk (where the spare tire is kept). It puddles and causes rust and mold. It causes asthma exacerbation and respitory illness. Due to the water, the tail lights get fogged up and it makes it difficult to see the brake lights. It also fogs up the inside of the car and makes it difficult to see out of the car . This car has never been in a rear end collision. This problem occurred on May. 2, 2013.

Subject: 2008-2009-2010 Honda Odyssey tail light defects comments: 2008-2009-2010 Honda Odyssey tail lights are susceptible to water penetration which will eventually short out the tail lights. This applies to the portion of the tail light which is attached to the rear hatch door. Water accumulates in the white part of the lens which is at the bottom of the tail light in these model years (I. E. , the back up lights). There is apparently a design or manufacturing defect in the sealed light system. I have had both tail lights replaced in my 2010 Odyssey due to water penetration & collection. I have photographic evidence to support this claim. This issue happened on Tuesday, Sep. 10, 2013.

The car involved was a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. Add me to the growing list of tail light issues. My taillight was found hanging for no apparent reason. When I took it to the dealership for warranty replacement, pictures were taken and forwarded to their rep as the dealer had not seen this issue before and they were looking for authorization. Although there was no exterior damage to the tailllight, the inside plastic where it is mounted to the car was all broken up. A determination was made by someone who had not even seen the vehicle to deny warranty work due to damage. There is no damage to my car! the dealer offered to install the taillight at no charge if I would buy the part. I didn't feel that I should pay $182 for a new taillight and they offered to find me one used. What does that tell you? I was able to find an aftermarket replacement for $61 and they will install for free. How foolish of Hyundai to lose a customer for a cheap repair. What good is their warranty if they don't honor it? and, by the way, they don't recognize your website with all others who have issues. This issue happened on February 26, 2013.

The VIN of this vehicle was 5NPEC4AC0B_. Nov. 21, 1013 exterior lighting tail light. I am the original owner of a 2011 Hyundai Sonata (approx 28,000 miles). I walked out to my parked car and noticed that the drivers side rear tail light was hanging by some wires. I had passengers in the car and there was no impact , accident, or anything else to cause the tail light to pop off and hang by some threads. Upon further inspection I could see that the plastic studs were broke and the metal stud was detached or never attached. The following day I took it to the laguna niguel Hyundai dealership that I purchased it from. One the service advisors ,346, came out and looked at the tail light. . He saw plastic pieces around the screws that were cracked and broken off which caused the tail light to dislodge and fall off. He said that I was fault and he wrote me an estimate for $248. 00. I am obviously not at fault. The dealership taped the tail light onto the body frame. I was very lucky that the tail light did not fall off ,I did not cause an accident, it was raining, and that I was not pulled over by the police. I phoned Hyundai to file a case. I received a phone call from the dealership on 11/28/13. I was told to bring the car in so that the service manger, [xxx] could look at the car (very in convenient, the car had been at their dealership 3 days prior for several hours while they serviced 3 more recalls for this vehicle). [xxx] basically did nothing except walk out to the car. He did not take the tape off to inspect the problem. He told me that he had been touch with Hyundai. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6). It was November 21, 2013 when this tail light switch issue happened.

The vehicle involved was a 2006 Infiniti G35. Vehicle identification number (VIN): JNKCV54E36_. 3rd brake light works less than half the time. The reflection of the light when on is visible from the rear view mirror. It has been a concern for about 3 month. Viewed on a G35 forum that this problem is very common for our cars. Filling out to this complaint to try to get a recall for this problem. This problem can potentially cause an accident as the tail lights would look like night lights and not brake lights. This tail light switch problem happened on Saturday, January 1, 2011.

The vehicle having this issue was a 2001 Jeep Cherokee. I have two Jeep grand Cherokees and have had nothing but problems with both involving the rear tail/brake lights. I have replaced the bulbs on and off for the last 10 years and last year I replace the entire ligth housing. I am expericing this with both vehicles and have notice many other Jeeps on the road with their taill light or brake lights not properly working. This is an ongoing problem. The tail lights work sometimes but the brake lights may not work at all, very frustrating. When there have been times when the tail lights will work and the brake light will not, both using the same bulb. This is a very dangerous situation when applying the breaks and having the lights on the rear of my vehicle not indicate that I am stopping or in fact making my vehicle less noticable. I have heard there are numerous complaints for this same problem. I am having the same problem with both vehicles - not a coincident but a manufactuers defeat. The failure date was Sunday, January 1, 2012.

The vehicle involved was a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I have replaced the rear passenger tail light multiple times. The light will not illuminate with a new bulb. The rear passenger window regulator has become ungrounded multiple times. There is no power on the passenger side of the car. I have spoken to multiple Jeep owners with models of the same make and model and they have had the same issue of sorts. I had contacted Jeep as well, only to be told the vehicle is old. I purchased the car 9/2007 and within one months time the regulator died and was repaired. The vehicle was 3 years old. The regulator on the same window failed and the taillight began to malfunction. The failure date was Monday, April 4, 2011.

The vehicle is a 2006 Kia Motor Sorento. Just driving down the road in the neighborhood. Made a turn on to a street and heard a loud noise and engine cut off and power steering had quit working. If I was going fast would have been a wreck. I got it stopped and had to have it towed home. My husband looked under hood and a belt was loose and the crankshaft bolt was laying there broke off. Called kia and they said it is not under warranty for that. I have 92,500 on my SUV and the powertrain is for 100,000 miles but they say a bolt is not covered. I have read online - this has happened to several people. Now hundreds of dollars to have it fixed. Should be a recall before someone gets killed. . . Also they should recall about the head and tail lights - they have to have a bulb replaced at least once a month and the interior light does not work. Has been this way since I bought the vehicle. This tail light switch problem happened on Mar. 19, 2014.

The car was a 2002 Land Rover Freelander. The VIN of this vehicle was SALNY22232_. The brake lights sometimes work and sometimes do not work (cited in 2 incidents by the police). All parts are fine (by check-up of a repair workshop), and no repair can be possibly done. Probably, the height of the brake lights above the ground is too low, so that it is sometimes too damp or wet (after snow or rain) for the brake lights to work properly. When they dry up, they work again. Next, the 2 brake lights are on the 2 corners of the bumper, and the central brake light is high on the tailgate. Theoretically, the 3 brake lights give warning enough when the car stops. However, there are 2 tail lights are high on the fenders (the 2 sides of the car's tailgate), relatively far away from the 2 brake lights on the bumper. The 2 tail lights give a wrong impression to any drivers behind this car, and let those drivers misunderstand the tail lights to be the brake lights (even the 2 police officers misunderstood in the 2 incidents). This will cause collision in reality. It was January 16, 2014 when this tail light switch issue happened.

The car involved is a 2004 Land Rover Range Rover. Suspension: sound coming from the front end suspension when making turns at low speeds. Its happens mostly when slowing down to pull into a parking lot or when you hit a bump or go over railroad tracks. Had lower control arm, lower strut and lower ball joint to try fix problem but not the case still having issue. Suspension: front/rear imbalance the eas will intermittently raise the front of the car and not the rear. Could be parked-I get in and start and it will pop up-leaving the rear down so the car appears to "squat". Had height sensors replaced. The front end has over 2-3 inches greater clearance than the rear when this occurs. Suspension: rattle under vehicle when you accelerate
body: passenger door cant be opened from inside or out, door lock seems to freeze/jam. Body: door seals leaking water getting in between the inner and outer seals on the rear doors. Lighting: condensation in tail lights. The failure date was Mon., Jun. 22, 2009.

The vehicle was a 2000 Lexus Rx300. Vehicle identification number (VIN) of the vehicle is JT6GF10U1Y_. I purchased my vehicle (2000 Lexus RX 300) in 2004 with less than 35,000 and every year since 2007 I have had issues with lighting. I have had the park light, break light, center stop lamp; center break light socket and bulbs all replaced. The unfortunate issue is that the lights have to be replaced every year sometimes twice a year because they continue to malfunction. I always take my vehicle to the Lexus of orlando dealership for testing, service and repair but they obviously never completely fix this issue. The most recent repair was replacement of th center brake light socket and bulb and reset on 4/14/2011 and in August 2011 on my way to the airport, an accident almost accrued due to my break lights failing to come while making a stop on a major highway intersection. I believe the problem is electrical, Lexus mechanic states the issue started with an untraceable problem in which the rear tail brake light stopped working and later on the park light and other lights thereafter. This problem occurred on May. 9, 2007.

The car was a 2008 Mazda Mazda3. The red plastic on my tail light has melted. I assume that this could have at some point created a fire or some other safety hazard. There are many complaints about this very problem in this make and model car and this needs to be addressed by Mazda even if the car is no longer under warranty. This is a safety issue and I believe the government should take this seriously and move to action against Mazda for this flaw in their manufacturing. We are now having to replace this part and it will cost about $600. 00. This problem occurred on 02/01/2013.

The car was a 2010 Mercury Milan. VIN of the vehicle was 3MEHM0HA7A_. In April 2013 I noticed that my left back tail light would go out and come back on intermittently. Eventually the tail light stayed on, but it was not a normal tail light the brightness indicated that it was a brake light. Every time I turn on my lights the brake light illuminates as a tail light. Now March 2014 my brake light in my back window went out. I replaced the bulb in this light. Two weeks ago may 2014 my tail light on the right side went out and when I used my brakes the right brake would blink like a blinker. Currently today. I have a tail light on the left that is as bright as the brake, when the tail lights are on I don't have a brake light. When the lights are off the brake light works. On the right side I do not have a tail light or a brake light. So when the lights are on, I have one tail light out completely. When I have my tail lights on the only brake light I have is in the back window. I called today about replacements and was quoted $376. 20 a piece! that is only the part. I did have an electrician friend come out and test the wiring and nope not the wiring, it is all in the light. I can not afford to get this fixed. Ford needs to step up! this is the 6th Ford we have had. This is the only issue I have ever had. If Ford does not take reasonability I will be trading it in for a Toyota!. The failure date was Tue., Apr. 2, 2013.

The vehicle having this issue was a 2001 Saturn Sl1. I can not understand why this board has allowed the use of "driving lights" on cars on our highways. These lights are misused constantly and pose (in my opinion) a severe safety hazard. They are used for driving in the rain and considered sufficient during dusk and evening hours. They present a reduced visibility and a danger to other drivers. They are especially a problem since they do not turn on the tail lights. Coming up on such a vehicle using driving lights at dusk in the rain is one of the worst experiences I have had while driving. I do not know of any specific accidents relating to this problem, but I bet there are many out there. I am not sure the authorities are fully aware of this potential cause of serious accidents. Your attention to this issue would be greatly appreciated. I hope you will consider this to be a serious issue. Thank you for your time and attention. This issue happened on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2006.

The car involved was a 2008 Toyota Prius. Vehicle identification number (VIN): JTDKB20U78_. I purchased my Prius new. I have had a chronic & constant issue with my head lights & tail lights not working properly. I have had this issue checked by mechanics and have been told this is a "Toyota electrical issue". There is no problem with the bulbs or components that can be found by mechanics. This is a dangerous problem, and occurs randomly without notice. My head lights or tail lights just "go out". . . Any time, anywhere! I have spoken with other Toyota Prius owners (other years too), and they have the same problems. This tail light switch issue occurred May 1, 2008.

The vehicle involved is a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta. I bought my 2010 Jetta used in June 2013. A month after I purchased it, I noticed the a/c was not working. I returned it to the dealer and they confirmed that the a/c compressor wasn't working. They installed a new one and I didn't have a problem until 8/7/13. I went out to start my car and noticed I had a light on my dashboard. I got out of the car and noticed my right front passenger side headlight out. I walked around and noticed the drivers side rear tail light was also out. I got home and when I shut the car off and turned it back on, the light on the dash was out, and all my exterior lights were working. It was around this time I noticed a burning smell whenever I exited the car, but I couldn't' pinpoint where it was coming from. I didn't have another issue until 10/25/14 when I was visiting friends 30 miles away. I went to leave, and when I started my car I once again had the light on the dash, so I got out and noticed the same lights were once again out. I had to drive on the highway like this, but thankfully while I was driving they all came back on. The car was fine until 12/14/13 when I went out to start my car in the morning and once again the same lights were out. The last time I had an issue with this was 1/7/14, in the middle of a blizzard. I got out of work and started my car to clear snow off it, and everything was fine. It wasn't until I turned the headlights on that I noticed the light on the dash was on indicating I had a light out somewhere. I got out and noticed that in addition to the same headlight and tail light being out, the license plate lights were also out. By the time I could get in the car they were all working again. I took it to the dealership and they confirmed the 30 amp fuse had overheated and caused the fusebox to melt (hence the burning smell). $500 later my car is hopefully fixed. Thankfully the car didn't burn to the ground. This problem occurred on Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013.

The vehicle having this issue was a 2004 Volvo Xc90. Unsafe front suspension repaired 4 times by Volvo involving district factory technical supervisor and technicians on 3 of four occasions and the vehicle still has serious safety and handling concerns - no one in the family will drive the car. It has also had serious performance related safety issues regarding vehicle electronics virtually shutting the vehicle down in the middle of an interstate. Anti skid problems on multiple occasions. Drivers seat belt anchor was improperly attached and would not have held in an accident. The steering wheel came dangerously loose while driving and the dealership stated that it had never been properly affixed. (I have owned 300 cars in my life and never has a steering wheel come loose)! tires were abnormally badly and quickly due to significant suspension problems and were not warranty by the manufacture. . Electrical problems caused several fuses to blow in the dark effectively turning all rear marker and tail lights off. It was necessary to drive with the hazard lights on to avoid being hit by another driver. It was 06/30/06 when this tail light switch issue occurred.

The car involved was a 2004 Volvo Xc90. My headlights, driving lights, park lights, and turn signals are not working. This began when I started to go somewhere last night. All of these things were working the day before. The tail lights, turn signals, and brake lights are working in the rear. My vehicle is garaged when it is not in use. My radio, cd player, or satellite radio would not operate 2 days ago and started working the next time I started my car. About 2 weeks ago the car wouldn't start. It acted like the security system had been activated as it would crank, but not start. I waited for about an hour and tried it again and it started the first time. I have checked all fuses. I am taking it to the repair shop today to see if they can figure out what is happening. These problems are intermittent and do not repeat often enough to diagnose properly. I can see this being very dangerous if I were driving at night and the headlights went out. I live in a rural area with a large deer population and it is hard enough to avoid them with the headlights working. This problem occurred on Thu., Sep. 9, 2010.

The car was a 2009 Audi A8. The vehicle identification number (VIN) is WAUMV94E89_. Multiple component failures relative to tail light assemblies. Both trunk mounted tail light assemblies were replace in 12/11 under manufacturers warranty. Sealed tail light assemblies were not water tight which caused failure of circuit boards and led lights. One of the two replacement units has also failed again (18 mo. In service and 6000 miles) lights have failed in this unit as well, causing potential hazard due to lack of illumination experienced identical failure on my 2007 Audi s8 which is the same chassis platform as the vehicle above. A total of four of these tail lights have failed on these two vehicles. There were no collisions or events that would have caused damage or affected the integrity of the lighting unit . Appears to be a design or manufacturing defect. In reviewing some of the Audi chat boards, this is a common failure on this d3 platform. It was 12/15/11 when this tail light switch issue occurred.

The car is a 2002 Buick Rendezvous. The headlights, dashboard instrument cluster, and radio, cd player, interior lights, and tail lights on my 2002 Buick, Rendezvous kept going out for no apparent reason while driving on the freeway. I took the car to the shop and they said it is the body control module. It is my opinion that this malfunction is a very serious problem. In my situation the several times that the lights went out, I was in a dangerous place (on curvey highway between pennsylvania and ohio at speeds between 55-70mph) the situation when the headlights and dash lights were out could have had fatal consequences especially when tall hills surround curvey freeways and roads and such as a deer crossing the road or worse yet, a person on the side of the road. The problem is still occurring and the bcm keeps malfunctioning every few minutes turning off all lights and dashboard clusters and it costs too much for me to fix-almost $1400. It was Fri., Dec. 23, 2011 when this tail light switch issue happened.

The VIN of the problem Cts is 1G6DM57TX6_. There should be a recall on all Cadillac Cts models 03-07 for faulty tail lights. The long center stop light is neon and moisture burns it out, difficult and expensive to replace, faulty product-some states require this third stop light, dealer wants $700+ to replace with new faulty part. The two regular stop lights are equally difficult to fix when they stop working. No brake lights on this vehicle. To check the fuses is additionally complicated as one or both are under the backseat which requires removal of the seat, including two other fuse situations. This is truly dangerous and the design and product is inferior, taking much time and cost to have repaired. I am not aware of any other vehicles at these model years with un-safe difficult brake light issues, and Cadillac is arrogant to say "it's a Cadillac thing" I think Cadillac needs to get it's lighting functions correct for road safety issues and I'm so angry about this problem that I think Cadillac should be forced to re-call these vehicles and fix them properly at no charge with properly functioning lighting electrics and bulbs. Mal-functioning brake light problems are in my opinion a grave safety issue. This tail light switch issue occurred 04/06/13.

2006 Cadillac Srx 5door
the problem that I am reporting is that the front r and front l side turning / lane changing light/indicators do not illuminate for purpose of turning/ lane changing indications. If neighboring lane vehicle is beyond the rear tail light indicator, that side traveling vehicle has no way of knowing the Cadillacs's directional intentions. The lack of knowing the Cadillacs directional intentions shall result in highway /expressway collisions! this is more particularly dangerous to the Cadillacs neighbor lane vehicle especially if it is in the Cadillacs blind spot. The factory marketed front side light, amber/orange in color, just comes on for marker lamp only. This marker light does not blink or flash to prevent a possible deadly crash!!!
for a factory recall, it would be cost efficient to reroute small segment of body illumination harness, verses the nightmare of highway crash deaths and the endless lawsuits. . . . . . . . This problem occurred on Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011.
