1 Door Hinge problem of the 2001 Chevrolet S10

Failure Date: 09/16/2010

The contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet s-10 pick up. The contact stated that the driver side door hinges were fracturing from the vehicle and the doors were glued to the frame instead of welded. The contact stated that the driver side door could fall off while driving and cause a crash. The contact called the manufacturer and the manufacturer informed the contact to take the vehicle to a dealer for a diagnostic test. The failure and current mileage was 174,500.

2 Door Hinge problem of the 2001 Chevrolet S10

Failure Date: 09/25/2008

I have a 2001 chevorlet extreme "s-10". It has the third door behind the drivers door, in the last two years, I have had to replace the door handle for the third door atleast 6 times. The third door is not used regularly, but again, atleast 6 times in the past two years it has snapped at the hinges.

3 Door Hinge problem of the 2002 Chevrolet S10

Failure Date: 10/09/2007

Third door handle/latch keeps breaking making this door unusable. This handle has been replaced three times and is now broken again. Anyone using the jumpseat would be trapped in the vehicle and/or have a very difficult time exiting the vehicle in an emergency.

4 Door Hinge problem of the 2002 Chevrolet S10

Failure Date: 06/14/2007

I own a 2002 Chevrolet s-10 with 72,000 miles. Since purchasing the vehicle, the door hinge pin bushings have failed, resulting in the vehicle doors falling out of alighment and opening while driving. The dealership, and gm, while acknowledgeing the design flaw have failed to do anything. I have researched this problem on the internet and have found in to be a wide spead situation with all gm medium duty door hinges. This problem started with the introduction of the welded door hinges rather that the bolt on type. This seem to be a very serious safety concern to me, and I cannot understand why gm is not willing to fix this problem.

5 Door Hinge problem of the 2003 Chevrolet S10

Failure Date: 04/04/2007

Upper front door hinge on the Chevrolet. S-10 crew has worn out where the pin anchors the door hinge bracket to the frame's hinge bracket, welded to frame. The failure of the pin's bushing has caused the frame' hinge bracket to wear out in such a way that the driver's side front door hangs, and must be slammed shut to insure full closure. Due to this defect that Chevrolet mechanics stated they were aware off. The remedy to correct this dangerous hazard was for the owner to incur the costs of repair. The truck was just a little over 4 years old from date of manufacturing with 77,000 miles. The dealer stated that the defect was caused by normal use of opening / shutting door. This problem should be immediately addressed as vehicles displaying this defect were a safety hazard for the door(s) opening unexpectedly, possibly while the vehicle was in transit. I am currently a police supervisor in command of the department's traffic safety division and was aware of this site for redress of problems.

6 Door Hinge problem of the 2003 Chevrolet S10

Failure Date: 01/05/2007

On my 2003 chev S10, the pins and bushings on the drivers door hinge wore out with only about 30,000 miles on the vehicle. The door would sag and became difficult to close. I currently have an appointment to replace the pins and bushings at a cost of about $150. 00 (w/tax). Upon speaking to other late model (since 2000) gm product owners and repairmen at gm dealerships, it is evidentially common for these pins and bushings to wear out. I feel doors sagging and being difficult to close could potentially be a safety problem.

7 Door Hinge problem of the 2002 Chevrolet S10

Failure Date: 12/10/2006

The driver's side door is loose. One can literally jiggle the door approximately half of a centimeter up and down. The auto dealership in portland, maine (forest city Chevrolet - now called quirk Chevrolet) advised me that they could fail my inspection a couple of years ago - that there had been reports of this and what the progression would be of such. The door did not jiggle at all during that time and was operating properly. It did pass maine's tough inspection law during said initial notification by the dealer (inspected by vip auto, south portland, maine).

8 Door Hinge problem of the 2001 Chevrolet S10

Failure Date: 11/30/2004

I have 2 gm trucks in my family. Both have had the same problem with all the door hinges - the hinge pins lock up and the doors will not open or close without deforming the body. I have been told (when I went in for repair at a dealership) that this is a standard repair for all gm trucks. The risk to the passenger is that the sheetmetal weakens and the hinge rips from the body of the truck.

9 Door Hinge problem of the 2000 Chevrolet S10

Failure Date: 10/18/2004

While standing on the tailgate of my s-10 pickup, the left supporting cable broke. The cable on the other side held so there was no injury or damage. My inspection of the breakage revealed the multistranded steel cable had become heavily rusted and thereby weakened. The cable is covered by plastic tubing which can be easily abraded by repeated opening and closing of the tailgate. Moreover the cable is obviously made from unprotected metal ie. Zinc-dichromate at best, rather than ganvanized or stainless. (zinc-dichromate sacrifices itself to moisture over a short period of time). I went the area dealer who, after checking to see it was on the recall list, quoted over $100. 00 to replace both the left and right cables. I learned some larger truck models already had recalls for this problem. I called gm and after a day was told they would split the costs with me which I told them was unacceptable as I considered the problem to of a saftey related nature stemming from poor design which essentially made the product unfit for it's intended use. It remains unrepaired at this time.

10 Door Hinge problem of the 2002 Chevrolet S10

Failure Date: 08/01/2004

I have a 2002 chevy s-10 pick up (zr2) and the drivers door hinge is separating from the weld causing the door to be approximately 1 inch out of alignment and getting worse. I currently have 41,000 miles on this vehicle and it is out of warranty.

11 Door Hinge problem of the 2002 Chevrolet S10

Failure Date: 06/08/2002

The door opened fine all day and all of a sudden when I went to open the door it opened only 2 inches. It appears that the front right fender panel has slid back towards the door approx. 1/2 inch and that is what's blocking the door. Upon further inspection the hinge is slightly bent. Dealer is trying to say that the door was sprung. Witnesses that I have including 2 police officers can state that this did not happen. They can state that the door opened fine the first 2 times and then not at all later. Body shop mechanic slid something inside the door hinge and popped it open resulting in the paint on the hinge to be scraped off. This should have been a warranty issue but the dealer refuses to fix it without payment. I feel since this did not happen by cause or fault of me nor was this vehicle hit on the driver side, that it is a defect and needs to be investigated. ***dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12-12-02 cut over to artemis***762999.
