The bushing on the top hinge-pin on the driver's door has literally disintegrated, thus causing the door to not close properly. It also has caused the hole for the pin to become oval over time. Various quotes for repairs run from $180 to $350 or more, depending on if the shop will weld the hole shut and redrill a new hole. A new hinge-pin kit with bushings costs about $6, but it doesn't help once the hole has oval. If the door is not lifted to close it properly, the door swings open in a right hand turn. I have witnessed approximately 100r so s-10 pick-ups and blazers in my area that are presently using ropes or bungee cords to keep the door closed. One gentleman around town actually physically holds the door by hand when driving. I believe this is a very unsafe practice! can anything be done to cause a recall? what if it happened on the passenger side, and a young child without a seatbelt were to fall out, would that be cause for a recall?.
Frame is cracked, two body shops stated it is a fatigue crack due to defective metal used during the manufacturing of the vehicle. GMC has stated they are not willing to do anything as the vehicle is over the warranty, however, the vehicle is only four years old and never been in a serious accident. Both body shops, an independent shop and bob maguire Chevrolet body shop, have agreed this is not a wearable part and never should have cracked. Even with 500,000 miles the frame should not crack. I take care of my vehicles, otherwise I would not be able to get 179,000 miles on the truck. I have a 1991 Chevrolet silverado at home that has 286,000+ miles on it and still has the original frame with no cracks. I still have 10 payments left on the S10 and the truck is unsafe to drive. The body shop manager at bob maguire has informed me that he would not even drive the truck around the corner, that is how unsafe this vehicle is. I believe Chevrolet should be responsible for replacing the frame or truck, as I intended to have this truck in use for another five plus years, as I have done with my 1991 that is still on the road. I was told that I was very lucky that I noticed the crack, as it was just about to break all the way through and I would have been in a very serious accident if it had. If the entire frame is not replaced, how would one know if the vehicle will ever have its full integrity again, as other parts of the frame might have additional defects, as well. If you need any additional information, please call me. Also bruce is the body shop manager at bob maguire and is willing to answer any questions.

The frame welds are failing. A military certified welding shop examined the welds and said the welds were not done correctly when the vehicle was built. He said the the failure of the right side welds is beginning also. I have reported this to gm and have taken the vehicle to the dealer twice for them to examine. Gm says they will not fix it.
The bedliner was installed at the car dealer ship at time of purchase. At that time we were told that you can fill gas containers in the back of the truck because there was a problem with static electricity igniting the gas. There is also a sticker on the bedliner warnining of this problem. There also seem to be another problem problem. After stopping to gat gas at a station on I-95 outside of washington and with no flamible materials in the truck the bed liner ignited in flames about 1 mile down the highway. I belive that because it is an over the rim bed liner and the fill spot for gas is just 8" away from the edge of the liner gas fumes during the filling process get traped under the liner and can be ignighted by static. Because of the type of liner there is a gap between the truck boby of about a 1/4" all the way around the truck. Becauce that gap is only 8" away from where the fuel is put into the gas tank fumes are getting onder the liner. This problem needs to be looked into. If fumes can be ignited that are in the back of the truck then certianly fumes that get trapped under the liner can ignite.
Consumer was told by frame shop that manufacturer's welds were not strong enough as they should be. This has destroyed frame. Vehicle has never been in a crash, and vehicle is considered a total loss.
Vehicle body frame leaks water.
The frame is bent. The vehicle has a problem with the alignment a week after being repaired. The vehicle has been to the dealer several times for this problem. Chevrolet, S10, blazer extreme 2002.
I have replaced the leaf springs and the rear shocks and the right side of the truck measures 9 3/4 and the left is 8 3/4 from the top of the wheel well to the tire, the dealer agrees that it is off but they say it is within gm specs, they have yet to show me this book with the specs in it. I called the gm consumer hotline and they just told me the same thing as the dealer. So I e-mailed clark howard and now you, this is cousing undue wear on my tires and I have a wife and a little boy to think of, I want to know if they are being truthfull? thank you.
