Chevrolet Suburban owners have reported 10 problems related to engine clicking and tapping noises (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Tapping or clicking noise coming from engine compartment. Car lost power, bucking with hard shifts, and stabilitrack, abs and check engine lights all come on. I took to authorized repair shop and they found misfire on cyl 4. Changed all spark plugs/wires and cleaned thottle body and tune up as well as oil change. Car continued hard downshifting after picking up. Drove for a week and symptoms reappeared again. Shop is currently trying to diagnose if it's a bad lifter(s) or possibly fuel injection problem. Shop owner admitted that he's heard of problems with gm's 5. 3 engines and the active fuel management system wrecking engines. I have my 3 kids in the car and it was scary almost getting stuck in the middle of a busy street.

First the transmission failed right after I purchased the vehicle 2 years ago. I had to buy a new transmission that wasn't cheap around $3,500. Then the front wheel bearings started with the right side last year just had a ton of play in it my mechanic found it when lifting up my truck for a tire rotation. Then the left front wheel bearing just started making a load roaring noise but had no play in it at all that I could feel when checking it out. Both cost around $250 a wheel to replace. Now my 5. 3 liter engine is having a knocking sound when at a stop after driving about 30 minutes or when the engine is hot. Also I am hearing a slight ticking sound from the engine cold or hot. I have 4 small kids so I need a very reliable large vehicle and this is Suburban is driving me and my wife crazy having to poor money in this vehicle every year. I am the soil provider for my family I cant afford putting all my money into a vehicle like this.

While driving on the highway I started hearing ticking noise from engine compartment and the stablizing light and check engine light started flashing. I shut off the Suburban and went to look under the hood. Started it back up and went back to listen again, still the same ticking. Chevy will not stand behind there bad afm which is causing this issue.
My vehicle is only 2 years old. At approximately 85000 miles on a car that is properly maintained it suddenly started to burn out spark plugs. After numerous spark plug burn outs and service appointments I was told that the engine is damaged because the number 1 cylinder was cracked and opening the engine was the only way to confirm how significant the issue was. As the cost and remedy was unknown and longterm fix seemed unfavorable to me, I took the option to replace the engine. I have tried to get to a resolution with gm but got absolutely nowhere. I am in a network of owners of these vehicles and a significant amount of drivers are experiencing the same issue. Some gm service stations have also mentioned that the issue was not corrected until the 2015 model year. This tells me that gm is aware of the issue and has chosen to do absolutely nothing to assist customers with this unacceptable issue. Overview of the many issues: excessive oil usage spark plugs burning out or failing sluggish engine clicking noise in engine prior to fixing the engine, I spent approximately $1500 in repairs and lost wages as I use the vehicle for work.

Oil consumption, steering column, side door panels, rear-end, seats cracking, front popping noise, steers to right constantly. This has been an ongoing thing since we bought the vehicle new in 2001. We have complained to the consumer reporting agency here in n. C. And also talked to the dealer and manufacture on numerous occasions. Dealer said they have had several vehicles with oil consumption that they have traded because of it and they just kept telling us it is within manufacture limits. They have tried to fix the oil problem but with no success. Also the steering has been broken down twice because of its problem. The door panels are still not fixed after 2 tries. The rear-end has been worked on 2 times because of differential fluid, the steering wheel still scrubs when turning to the right and the driver's seat is starting to crack. The consumer people in raleigh will not help us after we filled the complaint, they wrote us and told us to hire a lawyer and the manufacture only offered us a $1000. 00 owner/loyalty certificate towards a new vehicle. What is our next step without hiring an attorney?.
