My Dodge Intrepid was serviced at keystone Dodge or bud brown Dodge in overland park, KS for every oil change. At just under 70,000 miles the engine blew because of sludge. I was driving and I lost all power. I had the car towed to a Dodge dealer and they told me that this is a common issue. Dodge was not responsive to questions about the engine issue.
Driving my 1999 Dodge Intrepid from clarion, PA, to bloomsburg, PA, on route 80, the engine started banging and died while I was in heavy highway traffic. Dealer tells me engine is dead, needs to be replaced.
This is a vehicle that was leased from the time it was new by a colleague and then was sold to me. It was impeccably maintained. With no warning vehicle would not shift and engine ran under strain. Car has less than 74,000 miles on it but two independent mechanics have declared the engine and transmission unusable. No repairs undertaken to date because of value analysis.
Engine blew out while driving the car. There was no warning, no warning lights, no engine problems and then the entire engine was lost within 5 minutes.
On Jun 27, 04 lustine Dodge of woodbridge, virginia informed me that my engine starting problems in my Dodge Intrepid was a direct result of a recall pertaining to part# c45. I was also informed that the parts are not available and there is no anticipated shipping date. I contacted the recall division at daimlerchrysler and the recall has been identified, but they could not giver me a shipping date to the lustine doge. The problem can result in the car coming out of park and possibly moving. I also have an additional problem with intermitting starting that is a direct result of the recall. I have never been notified of the recall by daimlerchrysler prior to my initial contact with lustine. I am concerned that there more customers that are unaware of the potential safety problem. I have also contacted two other Dodge deals in northern virginia and they are also unable to obtain the parts.
While driving consumer noticed a large amount of smoke coming from rear of vehicle. Dealer serviced engine two months later. Upon attempting to start vehicle it did not start. Vehicle was towed to dealership, and technician determined that there was sludge inside engine.
Consumer stated that while driving engine blew. Consumer pulled over and restarted the vehicle. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.
While driving 45 mph engine blewout. Consumer managed to restart the vehicle. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.
Our 1999 Dodge Intrepid 2. 7l lasted us 17 days! we bought it used with 64,000 miles on may 24, 2004. After 1,000 miles, it was 2 quarts low of oil. We changed the oil to see if that would help. After 300 more miles it was another quart low. We added a quart. After 2 days, it was, again, a quart low. . . So we added a quart. On my husband's way to work that day,June 9, 2004, the engine blew. He lost his job because he was late to work. We had to have it towed home. We had not even made the first payment. Now we have a car that won't run, and no job to pay the payments. It will cost us $5,000 to fix it. We didn't pay that much for the car in the first place.
Engine was rebuilt by 5 star dealer at 51,000. Now at 91,000 mile engine had to be replaced as timeing chain broke and destory the left bank of values. This is a 2. 7 liter v-6. After talking to several mechanics and was told basicly this is a through away engine meaning it is not a good engine so basicly I have had to replace this engine twice in 91,000 miles I changed the oil every 3000 miles and had all mantaince done on schedule. I bought the car a 1999 interpid at arburn berwer in washington. I think that Dodge should recall all these engines and replace them with something good.
While driving 60 mph engine blew out. Consumer managed to pull over, and had vehicle towed. The dealership will be notified.
In July 2003 my 1999 Dodge Intrepid began ticking on the way to the grocery store when all of a sudden the car quit running and would not start. Luckily I was able to coast in to a parking spot and not cause any damage. Had it towed to a local repair shop and was told the timing chain was broke and needed replaced. I contacted the Dodge dealer I purchased the car from and was told there was nothing thay could do even though it only had 30,000 miles on it, the warrenty had expired. I went ahead and had the repair shop I had it towed to fix the car. It is now April 2004 and the timing chain is again bad with 35,000 miles on it. I again contacted the Dodge dealer and Dodge's customer service. The dealership offered no help what so ever but the customer service was willing to maybe help depending on what the dealership found when they tear the motor down for 375. 00. After searching on the web about this car I found an unbelievable number of people with the same exact problem. I seem to have gotten lucky and do not have to replace the motor. Yet! to me this seems to be a very critical problem with the 2. 7 liter in these cars that poses a serious risk to drivers. I haven't heard form the Dodge customer service rep yet to know what kind of damage to the motor there is this time but I just wanted to be heard in regards to this major engine problem and hope Dodge could take some responsability for making a bad product.
We have a 1999 Dodge Intrepid with 108,000 on it and it just cut off and locked up going down interstate 77 in n. C.
1999 Dodge Intrepid 2. 7l sludge. The engine in our car stop while my wife was drive in the middle of traffic without warning.
Dodge Intrepid 1999 engine seizes up without warning at 84,000 miles due to sludge in even though oil was changed regularly.
My 1999 Dodge Intrepid 2. 7 liter engine seized at 62000.
We purchased a used 1999 Dodge Intrepid in July 2003. It only had 72,000 miles on it. The previous owners said they hadn't had any problems with the car. I took out a loan against my 401k to purchase the Intrepid because my previous vehicle was getting a lot of miles on it and I needed a reliable vehicle to get me to work. Well now the engine appears to be locked up and I don't even have the money to get it checked out at the dealer. Now I am back to my old reliable 1992 pontiac grand am with over 205,000 miles on it. This Dodge motor should of lasted to at least 150,000 miles. I am very disappointed. I thought they had improved there products since the 80's. Boy was I wrong.
1999 Dodge Intrepid. Change oil regularly. Was on the highway, when the oil lite came on for less than 5 min. Then the engine completely locked up. Now the Dodge dealership is telling me they're not sure, but it apparently looks out of oil. Which is obserd! and now of course, they aren't going to do anything, but charge $4800 for a used engine?!.
45,500 miles and told sludge build up in engine. Mechanic wanted $6k for engine replacement. Paid $800 for new tensions, told engine can seize at any time. Had to purchase a new car after only 4 years!!!!!!!!.
1999 Dodge Intrepid engine seized at only 5600 miles. The dealer said that there is a sludge build up in the engine. The engine needs to be replaced. I was told from at least 10 different auto shops that the 2. 7 liter Dodge engine is poorly made and that they have seen this same problem time and time again. It runs way too hot and if you don't change the oil every 1500 miles or so, sludge will build up in the engine and cause seizure. There should be a recall on this 2. 7 engine or a class action law suit against Dodge.
The 2. 7 liter engine on my 1999 Chrysler Intrepid failed due to excessive sludge buildup. Though the owner's manual states an oil change interval of 7,500 miles, I changed mine much more frequently. Upon complaint to the manufacturer, they refused to offer any sort of settlement or satisfaction or even to discuss it further.
We bought a '99 Dodge Intrepid 11/22/99 as a program car w/about 30,000 miles on it. We bought extended warranty to cover 'surprises'. On Saturday, 7/19/03 the oil light came on. We took it immediately to the closest dealer and filled out the after hours paperwork. On Monday 7/21 they called & said the engine was 'shot' and the cause was sludge. They said it was caused by not having regular oil changes so it voided our warranty. Estimate $8,000 on a car with a blue book value is $5,000. Mileage on this car is now 62,080. My husband called an engine repair place & they gave an estimate of $4,500. He said he did quite a lot of these Dodge/Chrysler products because their engines fail frequently. In fact the dealership we have our car at had just called and got the same $4,500 dollar estimate from him for a '99 Dodge Intrepid. Coincidental?! and they're quoting us $8,000. So they're making additional profit off our problem. Unfortunately since my husband changed the oil or we went to 'jiffy lube' type places so we have very few receipts to prove we changed the oil regularly. The sticker on the windshield indicates we had the oil changed about 1,000 miles ago. Since we are leasing this car so in 15 months we either have to turn it in in good working order or buy it now for $8,549. 51.
I have a 1999 Dodge Intrepid. The vehicles are just no good. The 2. 7 motors in those cars are blowing up, the timing chains break. You can't find other motors to put in the cars because all the motors are just not good. Most of the people I know have just sent their cars to the junk yard for scraps.
My husband john and I purchased a 1999 Dodge Intrepid from easy rider auto sales 3980 pine grove Ave. Fort gratiot, mi 48059 on April 11, 2003. The mileage on the title at time of sale was 86,554, current mileage is 88,290. I drove the car for a total of 1,736 miles. We also bought the extended warranty policy from the dealer for the car. Guardian warranty company (nadn)1-800-482-7357. Ext. 111. We had the car for a total of 25 days when the transmission went out. We took it to who easy rider auto sales said are a good company to do business with. . . Lee's auto & truck repair 810-984-8947. After having the car back for a total of 8 days, I was backing out of my driveway and felt an sudden surge of power, the rpm reading was at 4,000. I was backing out slowly. I then braked and put it into park, watched the rpm gauge and seen it go over 5,000 rpm's in park at an idle. My husband contacted his friend who owns a repair shop and accepts this extended warranty we purchased. B & d auto and truck service in memphis, mi 810-367-8881. They currently have the car. The engine is totaled. B and d called the Chrysler company, who told them to replace the motor because of the damages and they are aware that the 2. 7,v-6 engine is trouble. B and d called the nadn company and told them about the engine. I was told that nadn doesn?t like to pay it?s claims. B and d always has to arburtrate over the money for the bill. B and d said to replace this engine would cost $8,600. 00 plus tax. When we bought the extended warranty, we paid for it in full, we didn't argue about it. It is still covered! before we bought the car, lee's auto did an oil change on it. There is a sticker in the windshield that states to have it changed again at 3 months or 3,000 miles. I drove it for 1,736 miles and had it for less than 3 months. Other problems include excessive rpms in idle, the power window in the back passenger side doesn't work, the trip meter doesn't work.
Various sensor problems. Have replaced on several occasions. Motor has been replaced twice, and going on it's third repair. Have yet to replace any power window/door/seat.
My 1999 Intrepid died in traffic, not to start again. I had my 3 month old granddaughter with me. I had a very hard time controling the vehicle with no power. Thank god they people around me slowed up and stayed behind me as I tried to get it to the curb. The mechanic said the engine blew at 43,000 miles. Nothin but sludge in it.
Bearings went bad even with regular maintenance and oil changes. Mileage is long distance mileage. Of all the cars and various makes of cars we have had (other Dodges, chevrolets, oldsmobiles, fords, hondas) we have driven long distance high mileage and and provided regular mintenance and never had to replace a motor. In our research on replacing this motor, we have been told by various mechanics and auto parts stores that the 2. 7l motor was known to give problems.
We replaced the #6 injector and the fuel pump. Shortly thereafter the car stopped altogether. We had to have it towed to the dealer to have him tell us that it has a broken timing chain and it would probably cost us $5700 to replace the engine. We had it towed home.
Car heater not operating properly and engine fan does not work properly.
This car was purchased used from carmax in September 2002. After 5 months of use, the engine died. The car was not abused, oil changes were performed on a basis recommeded by the manufacturer. (receipts can be provided. ) the car was taken to a Dodge dealer where the diagnosis was made and we were advised the engine had to be replaced. Prices ranged from over 8000. 00 for a new engine, $6000. 00 for a rebuilt engine and $4000. 00 for a used engine from a junk car. The car is sitting unrepaired in a mechanic's field.
On Dec 20 2002, the vehicle engine started rapping while traveling apx 60 mph on interstate. It then stopped within 30 seconds with no restart. Dealer has replaced engine 20,000 miles prior for same thing. Dealer has had the vehicle for 5 business days and has not fixed it. Also, history of multiple window failures, multiple fuel gauge failures, multiple a/c failures. Ts.
1) the oil light showed up at low idle , checked oil and found okay, the level okay. Took the car to the dealer and was told that the car needed a new engine (9400) e to sludge after paying (194. 00) for a diagnostic check.
While driving at 70 mph the vehicles oil indicator light flashed on and off then the vehicles engine would cut off. The consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealer who indicated that they had replaced alot of 2. 7 engines.
Engine "blew up" with 90,000 miles and with regular oil changes.
The driver's side power window didn't go down, the passenger's side power window operates intermittently. The window motor must be replaced. The anti-lock brakes were inoperative, and Dodge neglected to repair an oil valve which caused the engine to fail. The vehicle was involved in a fender bender after the leaving the dealership, the consumer believed it was due to the anti-lock brakes.
