Engine problems with the 2. 7l motors.
1999 Dodge Intrepid. Timing chain broke with no warning at idle. Towed to garage where they charged me 900. 00 for new chain and then it was determined that the engine would need to be replaced or rebuilt due to bent valves. I ended up towing the car home and it sits in my driveway with 72000 miles on it-junk.
I was driving on the highway and just as I was getting on the bridge, the engine on my Dodge Intrepid malfunctioned. My husband is a certified mechanic and he kept the maintenance up on my vehicle. We were told by the dealership that the sludge buildup was due to us not changing the oil at every 3000 miles. We were told that the cost to repair this problem would start at about $4500.
The contact was driving 1999 Dodge Intrepid when the car locked, including the steering and the engine. The car came to a stop on the highway. This was the first incident of this kind with this car. Also, the contact has a 2000 Dodge Intrepid and the same thing happened. He reported of having no problems with the car prior to this. No lights came on, and there were no noises or any warning. The dealer said they could not do anything about it because the warranty on the engine expired.
While driving down the highway my 1999 Dodge Intrepid suddenly lost power almost causing an accident. Had the car checked out and the timing chain failed causing damage to the valves and the cylinder. The price to fix this is over $4000.
Blown 2. 7l engine.
On August 15, 2005 my car seized its motor. A 99' Dodge Intrepid. I filed this information at that time . It has casued extreme fianacail disaster in my life since. I can't afford to pay for the car.
My 1999 Dodge Intrepid 2. 7 motor seize up for no reason, oil is always changed on time, but have found out that this is a on going problem & that there are several company's taking up law suits for this situation.
1999 Dodge Intrepid 2. 7 liter engine stopped working around 86,000 miles.
Contact states the engine completely shut down while driving the vehicle. The service dealer said the engine needed to be replaced.
1999 Intrepid engine blew up due to sludge problems. The engine blew up due to engine oil starvation from oil sludge ( the timing chain broke). It only has 78,399 km and in the maintenance schedule the timeing should be replaced every 160,000km.
Engin failure no warning.
I am the owner of 1999 Dodge Intrepid which has a 2. 7l v6 which recently blew up due to oil problems. . . . .
1999 Dodge Intrepid.
Engine failed. The cause has yet to be determined.
I have a 1999 Dodge Intrepid, which was purchased new by myself. Since I am the original owner I know how my car was treated. Basically, my car has 120,000 miles on it and has run pretty well all its life. The car started to jerk while accelerating on my way home. I took it to our Dodge dealer and was told that the engine was going to fail due to sludge in the engine. The dealer stated that this was a known problem and that chryler wouldnt do anything about it. They had gotten many complaints on these engines.
2. 7 liter engine went out, costing lots of $$$$ to get fixed.
Like soooo many others my Dodge Intrepid 2. 7l engine starting knocking, then while driving to work in the middle of the road stopped! my husband had to push the vehiclle off the road but was unable to completely get it out of an intersection alone! we had it towed to a Dodge dealership where they informed us that we needed a new engine. After I did some research and found that there are thousands of us out there with the same problem (sludge build up in the engine) that casues the engine to blow with no warning. No only a saftey hazard but it is very coslty to repair. The dealership wants 6500 to repair it and the car is not even worth that. So we are still paying on a car that dosen't run. . . Because the engine is defective!.
I was driving to work one evening when the car just lost all power and died. I was almost hit by another car. A few young men had to help me push my car on the side of the road. I work third shift and it was late at night so I was very scared. I got a tow truck to tow the car back to the house and the next day I had a mechanic checked it out and he said the engine was no good. The car only had 63,000 miles and it was serviced on time. I got a second mechanic to check it and the result was the same.
Engine seized without warning at 89,000 miles, and not knowing what had happened I took it to a local Dodge dealership to have them look at it to find out what was wrong, and they didn't even have to look at it, they told me exactly what happened and why without even looking. I had the look at it anyway, and they came back with there original response "the engine seized to oil sludge, a common problem with this engine".
The engine in my car needs to be replaced. Cylinder 3 and 6 have rods that will eventually go through the engine. It is a 2. 7 liter 6 cylinder Dodge Intrepid. I have contacted the company and they will not respond to my inquiries. I have done some research on this engine and there seems to be quite a few owners who have the same problem. I took it to ferris state university's automotive program and the instructor told us that those engines are notorious for doing that. He explained that it is a manufacturer defect because the hole that allows the oil to flow through to the cylinders is not large enough so the engine starves for oil which causes rod bearings to go bad. Chrysler needs to recall all vehicles with this type of engine because it is not right that they continue to let them stay on the road when they know there is a problem. I have a 3 year old to take care of and I still owe almost 4000$ for the car and to have the engine rebuilt will cost 4700$.
Ooil pressure light comes on when stopping and car at idle. It goes out when acell erating. This has been going on for three months. Have noticed sludge buildup inside oil filler cap and oil just seems to disappear at times.
Engine seized while driving. Oil sludge.
While driving at 35-40 mph engine failed. There was no warning. Contacted the dealer, but problem recurred.
While driving 25 mph the engine seized without warning. As a result the vehicle had to be towed. The cause has yet to be determined. Please provide additional information.
I received my 1999 Dodge Intrepid December of 2002, the car had about 23000 miles on it one day in October 2004 while on my way to work I felt something put and I no longer had control of the car. The engine never started agai. I have always changed my oil regularly and am able to produce receipts of this. The warranty company would not authorize the mechanic to diagnose the problem stating I had not produced enough receipts of oil changes. Carmaxx from whom I purchased the car states there was little oil on the dip stick then stated there was no oil on the stick.
The engine in my 1999 Dodge Intrepid failed in the middle of traffic with no warnings whatsoever. I was told by the dealership that it not a default, but it was the fact that the oil needs to be changed every 3000 miles on point and use 5w 30 oil. If this is true, why was this information not included in the manual or even relayed to us before we bought the car. If you know that oil has to be changed every 3000 miles exactly, shouldn't there be a sensor that lets you know that. Who would buy a car if they were told that your engine would malfunction if you go over 3000 miles without an oil change . In my opinion , this is a defect.
While driving 35 mph motor blew. Vehicle was towed to dealership, but dealership did not resolve the problem.
Replaced the engine at 38,000 miles because of accumulation of sludge which caused the engine to fail.
Vehicle had excessive amount of motor sludge found at the base of the engine. This caused the engine to completely shut down. Consumer had the vehicle less than a year and already the vehicle needed to have the motor replaced. Vehicle had been properly maintained.
There was nothing leading up to the failure of my 2. 7l engine. As soon as I came to a stop sign (in a vacationing town). The engine just stopped. When I tried to start it again, it started to screech like metal scratching. I had to pay to get my car towed back to my home, where it now sits for at least three weeks. I have always maintained my car mechanically, so this shouldn't have happened. So basically I can't drive my car until I replace the engine which will cost at least $6000 or more, money I don't have since I'm laid off of work. I have no vehicle to even look for a job. Ak.
I have a 1999 Dodge Intrepid with the 2. 7 liter engine. The engine was replaced under warranty at 12,000 miles and 36,000 miles. It has been maintained regularly and oil changed every 3000 miles. The enigne has now gone out again. I have read all of the horror stories from people with the same problem that I have. I now have a car that I am still paying for that is totally useless to me and Chrysler is unwilling to do anything for me. The problems with these are clearly a design flaw and should be corrected at the expense of the manufacturer.
While driving, the consumer heard a noise coming from the engine. Please provide more information.
My 1999 Dodge Intrepid developed an engine knock. Upon taking it to the local Dodge service garage I was told that the rod bearings were shot and the engine had oil sludge build-up. The only remedy is a new engine at a cost of $6700. 00.
Engine started knocking and weeks later the engine died while on a busy street. No action has been taken to correct the failure due to the high cost.
