Transmission Fluid Leaking problems of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Our Jeep Cherokee has had on and off transmission problems for over 3 years. 3 years ago the valve body failed while we were driving leaving us in a vulnerable spot while turning into traffic. The car started bucking, losing power, then gaining it back and flashing lots of dash warnings. We limped the vehicle home and then took it to the dealer. They informed us we had a faulty valve body and replaced it under warranty. 3 weeks ago the same problems started happening when I was backing out of our driveway. I rolled backward into the street and was stranded. I could not go forwards or backwards. After 2 weeks of waiting to get an appointment, we limped it to the dealership. It was revving high and struggling to go the whole way there. At first they diagnosed it at low fluid (which doesn't make sense because there was no leak. They acknowledged the strangeness of the situation. After being told it was running fine and we could probably pick it up the next day, we were suddenly informed that it needs a whole new transmission. It seems these problems are very common for this transmission. In the right circumstance, this could be very dangerous to someone. We were lucky in our situations, but I'd hate to think what could happen if someone suddenly lost power. Chrysler seems to be very aware of this problem and is only offering to cover some of the replacement. It seems that this vehicle, like its v6 counterpart, should be recalled for this very issue. Chrysler's refusal to fix the problem has left people broken down and stranded while also saddling them with thousands of dollars in repairs for a flawed design. Thank you for your time. Tl the contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. While driving 15 mph, the transmission slipped out of gear. The contact turned off the engine and waited a few minutes. When the vehicle was restarted and shifted into drive, the vehicle jerked violently and accelerated. Afterwards, the transmission failed and the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the contact's home. The contact's personal mechanic came to the contact's home and diagnosed that transmission fluid leaked out and the vehicle had a hard shift. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer and dealer were not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 95,400.

While at the dealership for a routine oil change,I was told that my transmission had a fluid leak. The entire under side of the vehicle was covered with transmission fluid! there was no warning, no lights and no messages! I was told the entire transmission had to be replaced!.

3 months after ordering my Jeep the transmission started shifting really hard and making noises, then started to leak fluid. Took it in to the shop where they couldn't move it from the show floor. The transmission was bad. Took them 30 + days to get my car back to me. Didn't install the transmission correctly and they broke the guard, as well as the passenger door handle fell off. After multiple return trips to correct the hard shifting this car was deemed a lemon.

On my way to work on March 16th when my service park brake message came across my screen along with my check engine light and park brake light. About 10 seconds later the service transmission message was displayed. I had no power when I pressed on the gas. I was lucky enough to be in a residential area still and coasted into someone's driveway. I put it in park. When I put it in reverse it shifted hard with a loud thud. It literally sounded like the engine dropped out of the Jeep. I still didn't have any gas power so I put it back into park with another hard shift and loud thud. I turned the Jeep off and back on. I had gas power and it no longer shifted hard but my engine light was still on. Took it in for service the next day. Of course they couldn't duplicate the condition with several test drives so they chalked it up to a software update recall "occupant restraint control module". Fast forward 11 days later, the exact same thing happens. Lost power in gas pedal, service park brake message across screen, changes to service transmission, the engine light, parking brake light and now the traction light all on. When I put it in park then reverse extremely loud and hard thud. Then another message came across the screen, shift to p then desired gear. Put it back into park with a loud, hard thud. Turned off Jeep then back on. Got power back in gas pedal and was able to get it home. Taking it in first thing Monday morning (3/30) for the exact same issue as almost 2 weeks ago. After reading all the complaints on this site and others, it doesn't sound too promising. I bought this Jeep brand new in Nov 2013. And this will be the 4th time its been in for service. The previous two were for a crack in the transmission case causing it to leak transmission fluid (3/3/14) and for a faulty internal controller in my shifter (5/16/14).

While slowing down preparing to stop, roughly around 25 mph, the transmission will down shift to the next lower gear, in doing so the system accelerates the vehicle. We've been told that this is normal operation by Chrysler. No, it's not! we also had the transmission cause the vehicle to go into limp home mode, almost totally shut down on us while driving. The vehicle had to be towed as it would not allow us to put the car in gear. Turns out there was a leak in the transmission line and the fluid was gathering in the front bumper. Wouldn't expect a leak with barely 10,000 miles on the car. These are serious safety issues with the vehicle. While preparing this compliant, we did receive confirmation from the dealership that chrsyler would be sending a replacement transmission for the vehicle. We think it is still important to document this issue as I do not believe we are an isolated case of this happening.
