1 Noises During Shifting problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2020

No acceleration, rpm stuck at 5000 for an extended time before dropping, clunk noise, hard shift especially into park. Between 60,000 and 70,000 miles had 3 major repairs.

2 Noises During Shifting problem

Failure Date: 11/22/2019

The transmission has major operating issues. I am experiencing hard shifts, delays in power at start and in middle of turns. Most seriously now the transmission completely stopped working all together out of the blue. I was sitting at a red light and when the light turned green it had no power and I heard a grinding noises from transmission.

3 Noises During Shifting problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2019

On 7/19/19 - once car placed into gear, it barely moved 5 mph. Loud noise during shift of gear. Service transmission light came on. Placed car in park and had towed to dealer. Dealer said. . The batter was low. However, the battery was last replaced 7/13/18 (1 year ago). I haven't picked the car up yet as I'm concerned this isn't the real issue.

4 Noises During Shifting problem

Failure Date: 10/26/2018

While engaged, automatic transmission experiences delayed, or sudden shifting, causing a grinding noise or thud sound during shifting. Alternatively, there appears to be a harsh engagement of gears or reduced power when the vehicle shifts into gear.

5 Noises During Shifting problem

Failure Date: 10/06/2018

Vehicle was not shifting correctly from 1st to 2nd gear. . . There was a loud thud when putting vehicle in reverse. . . . Dealer is replacing the transmission. Vehicle has been down 3 weeks, no information. The passenger door lock button doesn't work. Center console is loose. The sunroof shade is wrinkling when it goes back, the sunroof makes a popping noise occasionally when it's opened. The ac stopped working all together, or will trickle out. The tires are very wobbly and noisy.

6 Noises During Shifting problem

Failure Date: 04/27/2018

The transmission shifts hard and sometimes skips gears. It will shift very late and do a jolt and it feels likes I was hit by another car, gives a slight whiplash feeling to the passengers. Sometimes when I go from reverse to drive the back wheels lock up and the back half of the car lowers to the ground while the front of the vehicle rises. The vehicle also sometimes accelerates on its' own when I don't have my foot on the gas. I can be driving at any point around 20-30mph and my rpms will jump to 3000+ and the engine makes loud noises like it is being overworked to go 20 mph and it will stay like that for a good 4-8 seconds. All of these problems have drastically decreased the mpg my car gets. All of these problems are when the car is in motion. The "start/stop" feature also has many problems. If I forget to turn it off I can be at a red light and once it turns green I let go of the brake and go to hit the gas and the car is still in the process of starting back up, takes anywhere between 1-3 seconds to startup. This has almost caused me to get into several accidents. I don't feel safe in this car anymore. It was fine up until about 30,000 miles, but it has gone down hill since then. I am at about 45,000 miles right now.

7 Noises During Shifting problem

Failure Date: 01/11/2018

Bought car new from an authorized Jeep dealer. Within a couple of months started getting recall notices. The first time, it took a week to re-program the transmission software because the dealer's service department was overwhelmed. No loaner car provided. Was told by dealer that "this is how they work the "bugs" out. "abrupt" gear shifting and "sluggish" performance not resolved. At six (6) months transmission was completely replaced with new unit by a different dealer. Took another week to complete, and as a "warranty claim" no loaner car provided. Was told by dealer that most owners were getting only two (2) more months use out of this model. And, that "Chrysler/Jeep will be happy to get this one back for research and development". "abrupt" gear shifting and "sluggish" performance continued. At 2. 9 years, just before warranty expiration, "check transmission" sensor replaced and reprogrammed. "abrupt" gear shifting and "sluggish" performance not resolved. "growling" and "sighing"noises began just after warranty expiration (9/17) and have become more pronounced. Latest issue is that the transmission seems to "fall out of gear" causing sudden and unexpected stopping of the vehicle when slowing at red light or "stop" sign.

8 Noises During Shifting problem

Failure Date: 10/28/2017

The dealership attempted two software updates and told me they couldn't fix it when I went back the third time for the transmission not shifting properly. I also had a clunking noise in the front end that was fixed with the noise returning shortly after the warranty expiring. The vehicle continues to miss downshifts and does not shift properly when trying to accelerate.

9 Noises During Shifting problem

Failure Date: 08/24/2017

Sometimes, when the transmission shifts into 3rd gear (around 32 mph), it does a very hard shift and there is a noticeable clunking noise throughout the car.

10 Noises During Shifting problem

Failure Date: 05/25/2017

2015 Jeep Cherokee latitude 4x4 - when pressing the accelerator at a stop light/sign, it acts as if it is in neutral for a few seconds prior to taking off. It will often jerk hard when it does move as if it is dropping into gear. Often times the jerk is hard enough that it will throw me back in the seat and makes a horrid noise. The jerk can happen after stopping or randomly auto shifting while driving down the road. I've kept a diary of logistics (hill, flat surface, winter, summer, rain, dry, slow driving, fast driving, etc. . . ) and there is absolutely no rhyme or reason to when it's going to "act up". Someone mentioned an O2 sensor? I've had it into the dealer a few times and have been told there's nothing wrong with it, it's normal for this to happen (both the feeling of being in neutral when taking off and the hard jerking when shifting). I worry my transmission is going to fall out of my car when this happens!.

11 Noises During Shifting problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2016

While going up a steep hill,it makes a thump/bang when shifting between 4th and 5th gear automatically. It does not happen all the time. You can actually feel a vibration through the floor boards when it happens. It also hesitates slightly when it occurs. The noise it loud enough that even if the radio is on it can me heard. My wife in the passenger seat also made comment that she heard the noise and felt the vibration. Auto transmissions are not supposed to shift like this. I was told recently that is characteristic of the vehicle to shift ruff between those gears but this is more then just ruff shifting. It also accelerates on it s own when you leave off the gas on it's own and not slow dpown lie it should.

12 Noises During Shifting problem

Failure Date: 08/30/2016

All of my problems started August 30, 2016 in national city California. I went out and started my car for a trip back to yuma, as I put it in to drive I got three loud noises like the car had been hit with a sledgehammer, I also had a loss of power. I had it towed into ????? Chrysler with transmission problems. Three days later they told me I had a bad one-year old battery. By the time I got out of there it cost me over $500. The battery did not solve the problem. I did not have the noise anymore but I had shifting problems. (36294 miles) my first time in the shop at ?????? was October 11, 2016. Followed by five more times. As of now it has been in the shop 19 days for transmission problems. Not making any progress. Last time in I took the drive with the transmission tech. I felt a little insulted. I brought him up to date of what has been happening in the past. I told him the problem we are having now is loss of power and hard shifting taking off from stop lights and stop signs. I told him I did not have any problems at highway speeds. The test drive consisted of a high-speed run down 32nd st. I pointed out to him a couple of hard shift his reply was this is normal for a nine-speed transmission. I have talked to a lot of people that have nine speeds and I totally got to disagree that that is normal.

13 Noises During Shifting problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2016

The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. When the contact turned the ignition key to start the vehicle, it failed to start and the emergency brake stiffened. The vehicle started after several attempts and made a loud noise. An error message displayed on the instrument panel that read, "place the vehicle in park and then select desired gear", "service park brake", "service transmission". While driving approximately 15 to 20 mph, the gear suddenly shifted into neutral by itself and would not accelerate. The contact stated that the noise sounded and felt like the transmission was going to fall out of the vehicle. The failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that eight modules needed to be updated. The eight modules were updated, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 16v529000 (power train). The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 13,000.

14 Noises During Shifting problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2015

When starting from a stop car hesitates or jerks, sometimes clunks or grinds. Does the same thing when trying to pass a vehicle, pulling out at a stop light does the same thing. I believe it could be the transmission as the car seems not to want to shift correctly and makes rough, jumpy grinding noises does this most of time time you drive it and has for along time.

15 Noises During Shifting problem

Failure Date: 08/30/2015

Purchased a brand new 2015 Jeep Cherokee Friday August 28th. On August 30th with less than 300 miles on it my Jeep Cherokee's transmission seemed to fail going about 60 miles an hour on the highway the transmission abruptly slipped causing the vehicles rpms to spike near 4000 rpm. Along with an abrupt loss of speed. Transmission service light immediately illuminated. After exiting the highway and coming to a stop the transmission was making a horrible banging noise while trying to shift into first gear. I will be going to a dealership tomorrow to have it fixed since it is a Sunday. Only 300 miles on the vehicle! I'm scared to drive it.

16 Noises During Shifting problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2015

I have been consistently having transmission issues with my Jeep Cherokee 15' to include but not limited jumpy, lurching and rough shifting during acceleration and deceleration, inconsistent acceleration, grinding/clicking noises during automatic shifting and delayed shifting. The rough shifting, lurching and jumpiness is noticeable on city streets and at low speeds in my parking garage. The delayed shifting has happened on city streets. The inconsistent acceleration is noticeable at highway speeds along with erratic shifting patterns that are unpredictable. The scariest thing about this transmission is its tendency to lurch forward when I try to park my car, when I am stopped at a red light or when I start my car and head out of my parking garage.

17 Noises During Shifting problem

Failure Date: 05/06/2015

Tl- the contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving 5 mph the transmission slipped and the rpm increased significantly. The transmission failed to respond. Also, there were repeated attempts before the gear lever shifted into drive. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the transmission was replaced. However, the failure recurred and the vehicle was not repaired for a second time. The contact mentioned that the sun roof rattled making a loud noise while driving. The vehicle was not repaired for the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 3,173. Ad.

18 Noises During Shifting problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2015

I have experienced violent crashing noises/feelings under certain conditions while driving my v6 Cherokee trailhawk. I first experienced it at around 1000 miles, then again this morning when I was able to repeat it. I got a violent crash and lurch, when I accelerated, let off, accelerated again, let off, and apply normal throttle to maintain speed. This can be a common occurrence, turning into traffic or maneuvering around other vehicles. I was able to repeat it over and over again, by simply doing a hard acceleration from stop, letting off the gas, and then hard acceleration again, and then applying normal throttle input. Rpms go wild, sometimes get up to 6000, and it smashes into 4th gear. It's startling and I have minimal control over vehicle speed while it's doing this. I also get rough shifts and overall I'm very uneasy about the reliability of this car.

19 Noises During Shifting problem

Failure Date: 01/13/2015

Tl-the contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated various incidents while driving at various speeds she notice the front wheel wobbs while driving. The transmission will jerk as if its in neutral, she also stated the vehicle doesn't shift gears effectively and the vehicle accelerates on its own while in park. There was an abnormal noise coming from the front end of engine when changing gears. The vehicle was taken to dealer where it was diagnosed that th vehicle cannot be repair because parts are univalable. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 6,000. Ng.

20 Noises During Shifting problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2014

Purchased vehicle Nov 2014, shortly after I noticed it would shift irregularly and the vehicle tended to cruise on its own when off the gas. What made me take to the dealer was I noticed that when coming to a stop, the rpms of the engine will increase and cause the car to start going faster while applying the brakes. So I took to the dealer. Dealer did not investigate the issue. They preformed software updates. None fixed the issue. Time passed, the Jeep started to develop more noises in the transmission, it started to put gears harshly so I took it to the dealer again after it continued to do the same issues. Dealer claimed there was an issue with the transmission and it was replaced along with updates. New transmission and same issues. Jeep tries to cruise when off the gas, tries to accelerate when slowing or braking, rpms go up when slowing, noises coming from the transmission, irregular shifting, does not feel like a new car. Took to the dealer about 3-4 more times since transmission swap for software updates and nothing got better. The Jeep is actually getting worse. Now it has starting slamming in gears when coming to a stop, has some sort of wobble when accelerating, noises from the front (sounds like clutches slipping or something) and dealer has no fix. I had a ride along with dealer rep and they claim its normal for the vehicle, that its software and I must wait for updates. It is now oct 20, 2016 and I have lost countless time and money trying to get this Jeep correct. I have tried to get the dealer to give me my money back and they do not. I opened a case with fca when transmission was swapped and they have not helped to get out of the car. Why should I be stuck with a faulty and dangerous vehicle? fca and dealer should be held responsible for the sale of a faulty vehicle and refund me in full. The vehicle should be considered a lemon from day one.
