1 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2018

This happens randomly on highway roads most times when at a stop light or sign. When its time to go you push on the gas it dose not move for a second then lunges or jerks into gear, also in the lower gears it seams to not shift wright feels like the transmission is slipping. It is going back to the dealer for the third or forth time April 10 / 2019. Dealer tells me they cant find anything wrong.

2 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2018

Our Jeep feels as though it is bucking/transmission will slip. We have taken it to the dealership only to be told that they can't duplicate the issue or they have did a software upgrade that should fix the problem. It is only a bandaid and decreases the amount it does the bucking but will go back to normal after a few hundred miles. Recenlty our screen as well will not turn on for up to 5th minutes of driving and occasionally get a message that says the phone is out of service and to contact dealer. Again we contact the dealer only to be told they can not duplicate the issue and nothing can be done. The shifting happens generally when going in between the speeds of 5-35 mph. It's becoming scary to drive as we jerk while in motion.

3 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2018

After the transmission is totally warmed up, taking off from a stop may cause the transmission to slip and then jump into gear with a jerk. This is more prevalent when starting uphill or downhill. Dealer says everything is fine but my wife almost ran into the back of a car because of it.

4 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2018

While parked, the lights on the shifter all turn red and a message appears on the dash screen saying, "service shifter". Also, this happens while driving at normal speeds. At times, the transmission may slip while shifting gears. Another issue is when coming to a stop or accelerating from a complete stop, the vehicle may jerk as if the transmission is slipping a gear or improperly timed.

5 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 03/23/2017

The transmission slips or skips gears. From a stop it hesitates to go. It revs high when down shifting. Shifts hard a lot. We have had it to the dealer 2 times. Programming updates were done. No improvement to its operation. It feels like it's going to fail soon.

6 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 06/27/2016

The transmission doesn't downshift properly. If you don't stop completely, when you try to accelerate, it feels like the transmission slips then is downshifts into first. They Jeep then lurches forward. It can be hard to control when turning. The dealership told me the it's functioning as designed.

7 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2016

Since the date of delivery - on a daily basis, when in low gears, stop and go city driving, the transmission slips, jumps, jerks, and will often bog down. Acceleration is extremely jerky when taking off from a light or turning a corner. The vehicle has had at least three computer updates to resolve the issue with only extremely slight to no improvement. On several occasions I have not been able to move the vehicle safely out of the way of danger as quickly and reliably as I should have been, only narrowly avoiding an accident.

8 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2016

Check engine light came on related to thermostat liftgate has been leaking since the beginning transmission is slipping or dragging constantly.

9 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 05/25/2016

The transmission slips, stalls, hesitates at acceleration at any speed. Particularly worrisome when traveling on highways when it jeopardizes our safety! happens continually despite the Jeep dealerships attempts to repair. Still telling us it is a software issue and a day after service problem continues. No fix.

10 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2016

The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 25 mph, the transmission slipped gears violently. The failure became progressively worst. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was being diagnosed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 26,000.

11 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 01/13/2016

My transmission has been slipping since I purchased the vehicle a year ago, (12-28-15) appx, they said they fixed the problem, but it has recently became worse that it was originally. When I'm stopped and then begin to start going again the car hesitates for about 3-5 seconds then it jerks and goes. It also seems to downshift on its own or not at all.

12 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2015

When I start the car in the morning stationary, the car leaps forward and then the car rocks back and forth. Ive complained about this before but dealer could not replicate issue since the issue usually only occurs when engine is cold. Also, transmission slips and revs when in motion changing speeds using cruise control. The Jeep has always done this since ive owned it.

13 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2015

At times, the transmission would shift so hard that it felt like I had been hit from the rear. They had an alert about a computer problem. As I drove home, it did it again. I took it to a different dealer to see if they would have any luck. It seemed to fix the problem for a while. The hard shifting incidents were greatly reduced. Then while driving home from highland, I noticed some hesitation in the shifting. A few blocks from my house, the engine light turned on and an alert to service the transmission came on. Just before I pulled on to my street I felt and heard three loud bangs that again made the car jerk like it had been hit from the rear. As I took off from a stop, it felt like the transmission was slipping. It just wouldn¿t go. I pulled into the driveway and when I got out of the car, I noticed an odor like burnt oil. I called royal gate and was told to bring it in. Trip number 4 for the transmission. No problems on the way there. A week later, I got my car back. Again, I was told that it was a computer problem. I got home and when I was backing into the driveway, I heard and felt another bang. I called royal gate again. I was told that they are having problems with the nine speed transmission. Then while on my way back from an appointment, there was more slipping. On 10-01-16, I picked up my car for the sixth time. They couldn¿t find anything wrong with it. I asked to speak with the store manager. While waiting, one of the sales people asked me what I needed. I told him that I was picking up my Jeep Cherokee for the sixth time. He laughed and said, ¿transmission?¿ the manager was too busy to talk to me. He was in the middle of a deal. The last time that I brought the car in, two of the service people witnessed all of the problems that I brought it in for. Now all of a sudden, no one can find the problem.

14 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2015

I had to had my transmission replaced at 8000 miles, after a short period of the car shifting hard and slipping (less than 2 days). They tried to replace numerous parts that did not fix the issue. At 52000 miles I began having hard shifting issues again. The next day I got a service stop/start technology warning light. The next day the light came on again and had rough idol, service engine light came on. I took it to the dealer (key Chrysler, xenia, OH) they replace an ignition switch yet still can't figure out the problem. The shifting issues occur mostly during two scenarios, accelerating uphill, the transmission would slip and then shift hard. Second would be if you have to decelerate (slowing down for red light), then have to accelerate without stopping (red light turns green) the car would hard shift. This was the same issues that preceded taking the car to the dealer for service and car not working properly. The first incident caused the car to go into "safe mode" which nearly lead to me be involved in an accident as I was crossing an inetersection and was unable to drive more than 10-15 mph, creating a very unsafe situation. I put the approximate date (as best as I can remember) of the first situation below. The second occurred on 8/7/16 with around 52000 miles on car.

15 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2015

When accelerating from a stop, the transmission will slip for 2 seconds before it engages, causing the vehicle to jerk forward very sharply.

16 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 03/26/2014

The nine speed transmission is horrible at lower gears. The accelerated transition between second and third gear cause the transmission to slip and lunge the car forward. Another issue is during a yield intersection the transmission either doesn't engage, stays at the lower gear or slips follow by a lunge. My father purchased a Chrysler some 30 years ago and vowed he would never repeat that mistake - the car won't run in the rain and transmission dropped. He laugh when I purchase the Jeep should have listen to him. I too vow never to purchase another Chrysler product.
