I drove 365 highway miles, the last 20 of which were on winding uphill mountain roads, stopping at my mountain cabin, with no issues. Parked, with engine off, to shovel snow allowing access to steep snow-covered driveway. Upon completion and restarting my vehicle, I attempted to enter 4wd low to proceed down the driveway. Would not enter low, displaying "4wd not available'. Repeated attempts were unsuccessful, with additional errors displaying: "service engine', "service shifter', "service p brake". Decided to attempt driving in 4wd (only); vehicle would not shift out of neutral. Shifter was physically locked in position. Kept fussing, while all error messages being displayed alternately. It eventually couple be shifted (with normal effort); unfortunately it was now reverse not drive (which I needed). Upon attempting to shift to drive, it stuck in neutral on its way to drive. Again locked in place. Eventually unlocked and could be shifted; but was now wary of descending the driveway and decided to drive it a bit to test. It seemed as though it might be unlocking after a timeout period, so start a stopwatch on my phone. Eventually determine that the transmission was timing out after 4:30, and could be shifted, with all shifts being very hard and loud. Finally got it in drive and drove the ~3 mile loop of plowed, but still snowy and sloppy roadway; on this test drive, with all messages still on and alternating, it became clear I had only rear wheel drive and was in a single gear speed, allowing only slow starting and poor stopping, with speeds of 20 mph per 1,000 rpm. After a few wifi calls from my driveway to neighbors and my Jeep dealer's service manager; decided to return to town for repairs. Each passage thru neutral locking the transmission for 4:30, and all shift into either gear, extremely "hard".
This is follow up to previous complaint 11281573: dealer received Jeep via tow and found stuck in neutral as I described. Let sit overnight and dealer indicates Jeep will only go in reverse, later in day second try Jeep drives fine and no codes to report a problem to fix. Cannot identify failure since no "codes" were available in system. Dealer drove vehicle several times without problem of going into neutral occurring. I picked up vehicle and drove home. Next morning while making a signaled left turn no city street, Jeep goes into neutral, coast to adjacent parking lot crossing over one lane and stop. Vehicle engages into drive so I proceed. Returning home a few minuets later and at about 50 mph Jeep again goes into neutral, I remove foot off accelerator but engine accelerates to about 5500 to 5800 rpm as I coast to side of road (quite shaken at this point due to accelerated engine). Check engine light comes on during this episode. Wait a few minuets to calm down and restart Jeep. Transmission engages and return to dealer. Dealer finds code is due to difference between wheel speed and engine speed- not transmission related. Several service techs drive Jeep throughout the day without problem. Later in day driver experiences neutral condition 3 times while test driving- still no codes to id problem. Adviser contacts mopar extended warranty (max care unlimited mileage) but cannot get auth to repair without "codes". Dealer has opened a "star case" with factory.
Car has been stutter starting. Once it finally starts I get an error code that says service park breaks service transmission. Then when putting Jeep into gear the transmission will shift hard and you can feel the car jerk and hear a clunking sound. Once you stop and turn the car off and back on a couple of times the error messages will go away and Jeep will drive normally. Two days ago Jeep had been driving normal. I stopped to get gas. After filling my tank I returned to the car to start it and the car would not start after inserting and turning the key I would not get a click or nothing. I also had no lights, not on the dash or out side of the car. After trying to jump start the car unsuccessfully I ended up having the car towed home. Once home the battery was removed and taken to be tested. I was told the battery was bad so I replaced the battery and Jeep started up fine however after starting I received the error message service park break and Jeep again would shift really hard. Error message went away Jeep started ro drive fine. Drove to the doctor and when I pulled into parking space Jeep got stuck in neutral. Finally got the Jeep to go into gear and went to drive back home and Jeep would not shift right and again jumped into neutral where it got stuck. Finally got home and parked Jeep waiting to get it into the dealer now. Jeep has 95000 miles on it.
Vehicle cuts off in the middle of driving on city streets and highway, flashes multiple indicators on dashboard. Truck has cut off while waiting to turn while in middle of a four-lane highway. Check engine light goes off and on. Hesitation and acceleration issues. When pressing on accelerator truck doesn't go as if stuck in gear then finally lurches forward unexpectedly. Very jerky during gear changes similar to driving a stick shift. Taken to dealership where purchased and was told to buy new battery but the same problems continue to happen. Diagnostics at dealership gave no indication as to how these safety issues can be resolved.
The transmission was stuck in neutral and required a tow to a dealership to have it repaired. Even though it is under warranty, Jeep denied the warranty claim, and couldn't tell me why it happened.
Gear shifting does not go smoothly . When shifting it lurches , hard shifting . Engine light goes on says service transmission. I was driving on freeway and gear got stuck and wouldn't change gears . Had to make my way across the freeway to get off the freeway . Very dangerous . Stopped the car put in park , shut off engine and restarted. Was able to drive but engine light stayed on . Have had hard shifting and lurching for over a year and a half now . Brought in to dealership to fix . This will be the second time bringing in .
I bought my Jeep with 12,000 miles. I have taken it to the dealer 3x so far for the same exact issues. Transmission clunking, lurching, wont down shift at low speeds. When in traffic below 20mph some times it revs for a few seconds and doesn't move and then the vehicle lurches forward. Sometimes it just has no acceleration like its stuck a few gears too high. The shift going into 5th gear sometimes feels like I got rearened it shifts so hard. When this happens the vehicle jerks back and fourth and has a metallic bang going into 5th. The 5th gear hard shift is intermittent. The bogging, lurching and refusal to down shift at slower speeds is constant. Dealer has yet to be able to do anything but computer updates. They say its "normal". It is very dangerous in traffic because you never know what its going to do when you try and accelerate. I can't count the number of times I have tried to cross in between traffic and the truck refuses to go or just moves at a turtle speed. Once I press the accelerator hard enough it will down shift hard enough to break the tires loose and peel out when it lurches ahead. It is very troubling and I don't want to let anyone besides myself drive it because I dont want them to get in an accident. I can also assume that all of these hard shifts are causing a lot of premature wear on my drive train. Its like putting the car in neutral, revving it up and then slamming it into gear. It is a daily occurence.
Near accident. My Cherokee got stuck in fourth gear or higher. When I stopped and tried to go again, it creeped very slowly until it reached 40mph. This was during rush hour traffic. If stopped on a hill, it would roll backwards. Very dangerous. The rpm's frequently went high before shifting. I just bought this a month ago. Noticed hundreds of complaints on the internet about the same issue. Transmission problems. Many people getting new transmission after long battles with the dealer and put in dangerous driving conditions. Some with children in the car. Jeep in shop already. Help!.
2015 Jeep Cherokee transmission: warning light four wheel driving system unavailable service required! when driving the transmission would shift through 2nd gear and get stuck there with very high rpms, then slamming into third. (city street & highway) it accelerates when downshifting. Normal driving, no power. While driving loud whining sound from under the SUV. When stopped and in drive and turning on ac or heat, the rpms would drop below 1k and the SUV would automatically increase the rpm causing it to lurch forward. Transmission shifted randomly. The dealership we leased the Jeep from replaced/reconfigured the drivetrain control module and flash programmed the ecu. They replaced a defective transfer control motor. They checked wiring harness and called a regional technician. All of these "fixes" failed after an extended test drive. Rt 46 Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge said they now need to replace the transmission control motor. The car has been at their shop for almost a week. Chrysler corporate said they will not cover consequential damages due to defective parts under warranty. The sales manager at rt 46 Chrysler Jeep Dodge would not take our 2015 Cherokee as trade in for a new SUV because he called it a lemon. This vehicle is unpredictable and unsafe while driving. The dealership we leased the Cherokee from doesn't even want it back.
July 31, 2015: vehicle transmission overheated warning light came on while driving (8-10 miles) in morning and again in afternoon. In pm turned of vehicle and restarted, various warning lights including transmission requires service warnings appeared and transmission was stuck in one gear. July 31-augusts1 Jeep was at dealer for complete transmission replacement (approximately 5500 miles). October 5-October 7 vehicle left with dealer due to continued transmission issues while driving. Vehicle periodically clunks and jerks forward when shifting into low gear when coming to a stop. Becomes confused when slowing to a rolling stop, and hesitates to take off when accelerating from a stop. Currently when driving in daylight the auto headlights periodically flicker on and off when I drive through a shadow and make viewing displays in daylight problematic. Jeep customer care says that they could find no error codes and without "replicating the problem" or having error codes they can't do anything.
This vehicle does not shift properly. It has been through multiple reprogram and relearn events for the transmission. It does not know how to shift down from 3rd gear at a rolling stop, and stays stuck in third gear upon acceleration. Moving into traffic, this causes a concern, as the vehicle is not accelerating properly. This causes the driver to floor the accelerator, which causes a high rpm, and clunky shift to 1st gear. Then the car pulls away with a lot of torque steer and a jerking motion. This occurs on a inclined driveway as well, clunking into 1st gear from 3rd. It is an unsafe transmission. It does not have a predictable driveline response.
