Wheel problem is a common vehicle problem that happens to most car brands and models. The following is a sample list of Wheel problems reported in most popular vehicles.
The car was a 2000 Chevrolet Suburban. At the end of a 1320 mile (round) trip from fairfax, virginia to brunswick, georgia and back, the left front wheel hub suddenly disassembled, locking up the wheel and sending my 2000 Chevrolet Suburban out of control. Fortunately, I had left I-95, wher I had been travelling for 10 1/2 hours at 70 mph, and was travelling on a side road. There was no warning. The wheel made a loud, grinding noise and then immediately locked up. Upon having the vehicle towed to the local Chevrolet dealer for repair, the technicians examined the wheel and found no apparent reason why the wheel should have disassembled itself. I see no other option other than a defect in the product. Considering the way that the vehicle handled when this happened, I am sure that if it had happened 10 minutes earlier, while I was travelling on I-95 at 70 mph, the vehicle would hve careened out of control causing maximum damage to the vehicle and serious injury to myself and family. Coincidentially, I had the vehicle serviced just the day before at the local Chevrolet dealer in brunswick, georgia, and had requested that the front end be examined prior to the long drive ahead and due to a rattle that I had noticed. It had also been checked approximately 3 weeks prior. I was advised that there was nothing other than lubrication that needed to be done in the drive shaft. There was nothing unusual noticed with the wheels, etc. The final note in this situation is that I have paid $570. 80 for this defect to be repaired, and been without my vehicle for a week. Again, this was a very dangerous occurance, even at a slower speed than I had travelled at all day long. This problem occurred on Tuesday, January 7, 2003.

The vehicle involved is a 2000 Chrysler 300m. Wheel center cap falls off. Rusted through spindle dust cover. Wheel center cap is held in place by steel spring tabs. The rim is aluminum. The center caps start getting loose and wobble when driving followed by them braking and falling off. This last time when I got the tires replaced the tire installer informed me that severe corrosion was taking place and that the spindle dust cover had rusted through allowing moisture and dirt to attack my wheel bearings. This vehicle has just turned three years old and I expect the wheel center caps and spindle dust covers should last more than a year each. This is the third time the wheel center cover(s) are to be replaced. I talked to the dealer and they said that it is an extremely common problem due to the weather in va. I also noted several 300m vehicles in parking lots with the center caps flopping around or missing. I firmly believe this is a defect of combining steel with aluminum without a protective coating or insulator to stop the corrosion. This wheel problem happened on Fri., Oct. 10, 2003.

I have a 2003 Dodge Durango with about 30,000 miles on it and the problem I am having is the center cap on the wheel is coming off when the car is being driven. At first I thought maybe somebody was stealing them but I now know that isn't true. After I lost two of them I decided to check them every time I get in or out of the car. Yesterday I had to go to the doctor, so before I got into the car I looked to make sure that the two center caps that were left was still in their places of which they were. When I arrived at the doctor I checked again and this time I was missing one on the rear driver side. I did not stop anywhere so I know that it had to come off while I was driving. I also called the dealer parts person to find out if they had replacements and how much they were and he told me that he has been having a run on them and that either somebody must be collecting them or they were defective. I know that somebody will get hurt badly if they get hit by one of these, especially if the person is driving at a high rate of speed. I don't know where to go from here and am hoping that you may be able to help me out. Thankyou,

The car was a 2005 GMC Yukon denali. There was crash involved with this GMC Yukon denali. On 23 March 2005 at 6:30am, I was driving my 2005 Yukon denali in a 15mph school zone on a military post when my driver's side rear tire came off. When I skidded to the side of the road and got out, I noticed that one of the lugs was broken off. This was the cause of my wheel coming off. I was only driving between 10-15mph. I was the only one in the vehicle and there were no injuries. When the tire came off the vehicle, 2 cars in oncoming traffic had to swirve to miss it. When I called the dealership (cutter Dodge/GMC in waipahu, hi) the finance manager told me to call the service department. I purchased my vehicle on 05 March 2005 as a demo. I haven't had the vehicle for even 3 weeks. When I talked with my insurance company on the phone, they told me to check with the service department to see if it was covered under warranty since it was a new vehicle. When I towed the vehicle to the service department, they told me it would take like an hour to do an assessment on everything to see how the problem occurred. If I was on the highway going 55mph, I could have lost my life!!! the service manager after 2 hours said that I would be granted a rental car for the day, and they would have to do an investigation. Today, 24 March 2005 when I went to the service station, they told me that they would take care of all the damages that were caused to the rotor/body/axel or shaft. They extended my rental until Monday. At this moment, I do not feel safe in this vehicle. I paid over $53,000 for this vehicle. I want another vehicle. They can have this vehicle back and get me another one just like it!!!! I will do whatever it takes to get another vehicle. Either I will go to the better business bureau, GMC, or the local news. Just like I said, I do not feel safe driving in this vehicle!!!!!!!. It was Wed., Mar. 23, 2005 when this wheel issue occurred.

The vehicle having this issue was a 2001 Acura Mdx. I own a 2001 Mdx (first year release) and we love it! the reason for my complaint is that when having routine service today at my Acura dealer (leith Acura in cary, nc), they noticed that one of the alloy wheels has a crack that appears to run across the back of one 'pillar' of the wheel and toward the front facing on both sides of that spoke or pilar. I've never had such a problem with any alloy wheel in 35 years of car ownership and wouldn't expect it particularly with a luxury vehicle such as the Acura Mdx. The dealer would not offer any assistance other than to sell me a new wheel. I want to know if Acura will warranty the wheel, as this appears to be a real anomaly. There is no indication of impact to the wheel which might have caused the damage. Please advise. It was Monday, June 6, 2005 when this wheel issue happened.

The vehicle was a 1999 Mazda Protege. The vehicle identification number (VIN) of the car was JM1BJ2215X_. Your recently announced investigation into slow tire leaks due to bad steel wheels on gm products prompted me to write about the same experience with my 99 Mazda Protege alloy wheel that I just replaced at full cost. Mazda told me they have had no complaints on the type of defect that I had--a pinhole in the middle of the wheel. Of all the years of owning an automobile, I was never confronted with this type of problem. Any correlation? any other complaints on these wheels? thanks. It was 03/01/2003 when this wheel issue happened.

The car was a 2000 Toyota Rav4. The VIN of the car is JT3HP10V7Y_. 2000 Rav4. The wheel is failing, disintegrating. Several cracks have developed in the wheel rim, and the inner part of the wheel - the spokes - is separating from the outer part. This is the second wheel to fail on this vehicle, which makes it surprising that I have not heard of others. It is a very dangerous situation. I reported the first failure, about a year ago, to Toyota canada, and was referred to the dealer, who listened politely, and offered nothing more by way of help or solution. I have not bothered to report this one. This wheel problem happened on Saturday, June 9, 2007.

The car is a 2003 Toyota Corolla. The VIN of the problem Corolla is 1NYBR38E93_. The consumer wanted to rotate the tires. The vehicle was jacked up followed by changing the tires. When the consumer made an attempt to dismount the tires from the drums, the wheel/rim was stuck. This was a characteristic for all the wheels. The consumer discovered that the axle end was the same size as the center hole in the wheel and was frozen together. There was a little hole in the center of the drum, that was adding to the problem. The consumer had to get a hammer and repeatedly beat upon the wheels to dislodge them. This wheel problem happened on Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004.
