car   Air Brake Antilock Control Unit/module problem of Chevrolet Tahoe

The car involved was a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe. My abs light came on and the abs motor started to run. I turned the car off, but the abs motor continued to run. I had to go under the hood and pull the fuse to prevent the motor from burining out and to prevent the battery from draining. The dealer wants $1000 to replave the ebcm, but some compaines on the internet who were formed solely to fix this problem will do it for cheaper. There are many many people on the intenet sites who have this problem for all types of chevy trucks from 1999-2003. It was 11/27/2003 when this air brake antilock control unit/module issue occurred.

car   Air Brake Antilock Control Unit/module problem of Ford Windstar

The vehicle is a 1998 Ford Windstar. On 12/7/01 my abs light came on and the trac off light started blinking. I took it into the inver grove Ford, mn and the diagnosis was broken wheel sensor and had to replace the ecu. That cost us $1600. 00. Then on 12/8/02, the 2 lights came on again. I called Ford very upset and was told that there is only a 12 month/12,000 miles warranty on the part. After another diagnostic test, it was determined the ecu again went out. Ford offered to pay $500. 00 of the $1147. 00 estimate, but it infuriates me that automobile companies can get away with this type of "highway robbery" and only warranty such an expensive piece for a short period of time. It is now a safety issue, because my anti-lock brakes do not work! what am I to do?. This air brake antilock control unit/module issue occurred 12/08/2002.

After researching on the internet found out there had been several recalls for this, but not with my VIN #. Have called gm corp to report this and am currently waiting to hear back. The car was a 1996 Acura Rl. 2 weeks after purchasing this previously-owned Rl, I heard a squealing noise that I thought was coming from the a/c and reported it to my dealer who couldn't find any problem. The next time I heard this noise my windows were down and the noise was so loud, it echoed off surrounding buildings. I hit my brakes to pull over and investigate and the noise stopped. Reported to dealer but they couldn't find any problem. This noise still pops up from time to time, but goes away when brakes are applied. Noise is a squealing/hissing sound that eminates from the abs area under my hood next to the firewall on the passenger side, abs lights haven't illuminated during the evet at any time, yet. car   Air Brake Antilock Control Unit/module problem of Jeep Commander

The car was a 2006 Jeep Commander. Took car to dealer to have recall #07v434000 -service brakes, hydraulic:antilock:control unit/module on certain sport utility vehicles, the software programmed into the abs electronic control module may allow a momentary delay in braking when coasting up a hill during certain conditions--could cause crash! when the dealer corrected the recall issue, the abs module failed--this was in north carolina where car was bought initially. Took car to pennsylvania dealer to have the abs module installed. Waited for new module when it arrived 2 weeks later, dealer said that new modules were failing and could not be fixed and that detroit was saying they knew they had a problem and were attempting to correct. I called Jeep customer service and they said all they could do was tell me what already had been told by dealer that they were waiting for a fix/new components from Jeep. Customer service checked with both dealerships and again reiterated that detroit was attempting to fix the problem and as soon as they did they would send new module. The Jeep is now being driven w/o abs or the esp modules, both lights are on and car keeps alerting to get service. My insurance gives me a discount for having abs but now I am driving w/o them. I am afraid to drive the car since the initial recall said that a crash could occur. During winter driving having to stop quickly can occur from out of nowhere, now I do not have abs or esp. This is an accident waiting to happen. Jeep does not seem to care. Their customer service rep suggested that the only thing they could tell me was to contact my state attorney general and file a complaint--which I have done. There was another car in the PA dealership with the same problem as mine--no abs or eps after attempting to fix the initial recall problem. How many more cars are having this problem? please investigate before there is a death. Thank you. This issue happened on Tue., Nov. 20, 2007.

car   Air Brake Antilock Control Unit/module problem of Land Rover Discovery Ii

The car involved was a 2000 Land Rover Discovery Ii. The car had a crash. On 7/1/05 I was driving my 2000 Land Rover discovery series ii on the left lane of I-75 s, in clear weather, on dry pavement, near the 68 mile marker in kentucky(copassengers-my wife & son) enroute to tennessee. Around 1. 45 pm traffic ahead started slowing down. I was driving at about 60 mph, and applied the brake; the vehicle immediately started fishtailing and swerving badly. I did not feel the pulsing of the abs; the vehicle swerved across the right lane & shoulder, hit the guard rail on the right, bounced back, & tipped over on to the right (passenger side) on the shoulder. My wife sustained injuries to her right hand & arm due to the tipping over of the vehicle and the shattering of the front passenger window glass, & was taken to a local hospital by ems ambulance. She will undergo hand surgery. The vehicle sustained serious body damage and was towed to a local towing yard. It was determined not drivable by my auto insurance company appraiser(the vehicle is still capable of starting and moving forward at this time). We (my wife and I ) informed Land Rover north America in maryland of the incident; they said they could not send anyone out to examine it. They suggested we contact any local Land Rover dealership with a service center for a detailed examination of the vehicle. The (closest available) lexington Land Rover dealer/service center refused, citing conflict of interest! the vehicle remains in the towing yard, awaiting a move to a salvage yard soon. No other vehicles/people were involved. We got back home to pennsylvania after the accident. We would like to find out if the abs failure contributed to this accident. Land rover has not made any attempt to contact our auto insurance company, or showed any interest in tackling this problem, other than giving us an address to write to. Therefore, nothing has been done to address/correct this problem so far. This air brake antilock control unit/module issue occurred Fri., Jul. 1, 2005.

The vehicle having this issue was a 1999 Land Rover Discovery Ii. Under normal driving conditions all three lights (traction control, abs, downhill) lights up. It happens even with suvs with very low miles. Bleeding the brakes and cleaning the connector or replacing the sensors doesn't make any difference. There is fault in the abs modulator design and there should be recall on this item. The failure date was Mon., Mar. 8, 2004.

car   Air Brake Antilock Control Unit/module problem of Nissan Maxima

I purchased a new 2002 Nissan Maxima in may 2002. I began to see an abs light when driving in Jan 2003 when I had 9,800 miles on the car. Brakes began to catch and then failed completely before I could get home or to the dealership. No accident, due completely to luck. Car was towed to dealer. Dealer replaced the master cylinder. Got car back and in less than 2 weeks abs light again on while driving. This time no catching of anti-lock brakes. Returned to dealer for repair. Another part replacement. Less than 1 week later the abs light on again during driving. Dealer is now not calling me, I have to call. Has had car for 3 business days. Say they have fixed the car and are keeping it so they can test drive it. They have replaced the sensor. Does this mean the abs light will not come on when there is a problem?. The vehicle involved is a 2002 Subaru wrx. Crash was involved with this problem. While driving on a residential street, well within acceptable speeds,â â  approaching a right hand turn with no traffic I slightly moved leftâ â  on the road (over the bump strip, but not into the other lane) to getâ â  a smoother angle into the turn.  â upon braking, the drivers front tireâ â  squealed/slid, no abs pulse and brake pedal was far closer to theâ â  floor than normal.  â I let off and downsifted to no avail.  â I hit theâ â  curb (only, thankfully) but did extensive damage to my car renderingâ â  it undrivable.  â I now have no faith in my once cherished car and onceâ â  it is repaired am contemplating replacing it.  â why havent they fixedâ â  this???????!?!?!?. car   Air Brake Antilock Control Unit/module problem of Subaru Baja

The vehicle involved was a 2003 Subaru Baja. This vehicle's brakes are defective. The abs is too easily activated by bumps or debris on the road during routine stops under normal environmental conditions, resulting in loss of decelaration of varying degrees of severity. This has caused one accident already and almost caused another one on 12mar04. We have notified Subaru of America after the first accident, who refused assistance. We have taken the vehicle to the dealership since then, who maintains there is nothing wrong with the vehicle's abs. Still, the failures continue. We are being compelled by Subaru of America and its local dealership to operate a patently defective vehicle. This failure can be replicated and it occurs an average of three times a week on daily driving. It even happens while pulling up into our garage at less than 1 mph. We urge NHTSA to extend defect investigation ea-03-024 to include all models covered in Subaru's technical service bulletin 06-31-03. This problem occurred on 03/12/2004.

car   Air Brake Antilock Control Unit/module problem of Toyota Prius

The vehicle involved was a 2010 Toyota Prius. Bought this car certified used from Toyota dealer in mid-may 2013. First Prius I've owned, and not used to driving it, so the first couple times it 'lurched forward' with the brakes on, I was surprised, but figured it was just related to the 'hybrid'. It happened again last week at a stop sign with rough road - braking, hit bumps, and brakes disappear! took it into dealer this morning, and they're saying it's 'normal'. Then I start researching and while car is not included in any recalls, it's the same problem investigated in ntsb 10v039000. Exactly! car is still at dealer, as I have asked to speak to service mgr. And just in news today, supreme court is allowing calif 2010 Prius owners to sue Toyota over a bogus fix for this problem. Not sure what to do, but not going to let up on this. Half dozen times in 4 months this has happened, and I like the feeling less every time. Anything I can do? (when you all get back to work). This issue happened on 10/01/2013.

The car involved was a 2003 Volkswagen Passat. Fuel pump failure while driving on the freeway the car quite running. 1. 8 liter turbo in o3 vw Passat. I talk to a women tell her the same thing as above and she ask me to hold while she submits the claim. She comes back on the line after 45 seconds or so and says that they won't cover it. The VIN number is not part of the recall. I ask to speak to a supervisor. I am told there is no one else I can speak to and this is the finally decision of vw of north America. This is not the first failure for this car. The car involved is a 1999 Volvo V70xc. Vehicle identification number (VIN) of the vehicle is YV1LZ56D0X_. I have been notified by my Volvo dealer (don beyer Volvo, falls church, va) during routine service that there is an internal fault in the abs module in my 1999 Volvo V70 wagon. The estimated cost for this prospective repair is $951. I understand from conversations with other 1999 and 2000 Volvo owners, as well as a search on the internet, that this is a frequent problem with Volvo's during this production period. Since the abs control module does not deteriate from normal wear and tear but, instead is a computer based system which should last much longer than 3 or 4 years, I am requesting your organization to investigate whether this problem is a latent defect and should be the subject of a recall and paid for by the manufacturer.
