car   Air Brake Antilock problem of Chevrolet Tahoe

The car was a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe. The vehicle identification number (VIN) is 1GNEK13T25_. The "service stability" warning message displayed, abs warning light, tc tire deflation, and brake failure light. The first failure occurred on or about February 13, 2012. I took the vehicle to the Chevrolet dealership immediately and the repair was completed by March 27, 2012 after 3 attempts. The computer tester was alleged to show that the ebcm had failed and was replaced. This did not clear the defect and the same warnings continued when ever the car was washed or became wet from rain. The defect was said to be in the wire that powered the ebcm in the proximity of the firewall. The wire was stated to be frayed. When the wire was replaced the problem was corrected. I am concerned that the wire may have been damaged from abrasion near the firewall combined with corrosion from road salt. This could have lead to failure of the abs, airbags, and stability control at a time when it is most needed. It was 02/13/12 when this air brake antilock issue occurred.

car   Air Brake Antilock problem of Dodge Stratus

The car involved is a 1996 Dodge Stratus. Crash happened when the problem occurred. Accident occurred due to failure of the brakes. While driving northbound on knights road in bensalem, a car (2 cars ahead of me)slammed on their brakes to make a left hand turn. The Mini-van that was directly in front of me also stopped suddenly. As I approached, I slowed down to a stop. The Mini-van started to proceed around the vehicle. I then took my foot off the brake to also go around the vehicle, however the Mini-van stopped suddenly again. At this point I placed my foot on the brake pedal and it went to the floor. My car rolled into the Mini-van. My insurance paid out approximatly $1500. 00 in damage to fix their bumper. I am now however going through a lawsuit for bodily damage. After the accident occurred I contacted Chrysler. They sent an inspector out to check my brakes at the dealership. The result was they found nothing wrong with my brakes and that I need to learn how to drive a car with anti-lock brakes. This infuriated me for it is not the first car I have had with anti-lock brakes and I never had a problem before with any other car. This accident was not the first time that the brakes failed on this car. Several incidents occurred previous where I would turn into a driveway or parking lot and suddenly loose my brakes for a few minutes. After I took my car to the dealership for the inspection, I haven't had any further problems with the brakes. I was never informed whether any adjustments were made to fix the problem or if it is just a coincedance. Since I've had this car there has been at least 4 recalls on various things. I lease the vehicle and when I contacted the dealership because I didn't feel safe driving it, there was nothing that I could do except ot buy out the lease which I couldn't afford.

This defect does not impact ability to stop; however, when braking you get a brake/release cycle which feels like the brakes are failing. Eventually, the abs computer recognizes the error, the abs light illuminates, and abs system is disabled, resuming normal braking activity. It was Mar. 8, 2012 when this air brake antilock issue happened.

Had to turn off car to stop it! roadside assistance was called. Car was towed this morning (2 days after situation) and is now at dealership. They checked under the hood and said that all was fine - the battery cover looked out of place. I just had this car in last week for the transmission recall. car   Air Brake Antilock problem of Honda Pilot

The vehicle is a 2003 Honda Pilot. Several months after buying our car in December of 2002, we noticed a clunking sound when we used the brakes when going forward. We were told this was normal and occurred after having just backed up. It was a transfer of the brakes from back to front. I had the service tech look at them and was told it was not a safety issues and Honda would not address it. I have since talked to several Honda owners who have never had this problem. Additionally, my brakes are getting worse and make the sound even if I don't back up first. It was Sat., Mar. 1, 2003 when this air brake antilock issue happened.

car   Air Brake Antilock problem of Honda Passport

The car was a 1999 Honda Passport. The VIN of the car is 4S6CK58W7X_. This is the third Honda I have owned, but the only one with problems. The first two had over 300,000 miles combined. . . . No problems. This really isn't even a Honda, it is an isuzu. When I purchased the car, I was told that all parts inside and out were made by Honda and that isuzu supplied only the seatbelts and the actual car frame. I have had the a/c blower replaced two times, the first time was under warranty. After the first replacement, the cd player stopped working and then the car started experiencing electrical problems. When I turned on the blinker, the a/c went out along with the auto transm. Spent over $150 plus cost of rental car and Honda said the probl. Was with the trailer hitch. I did not pay for repair. . . They wanted over $600. . . However, when the car was given back, mysteriously the cd player begain working and so did the a/c. . . Checked and they replaced the blower (although they said they didn't do anything) as soon as I picked up the car. . . No more problems during that time. A year later (no longer under warranty) the a/c blower works intermittenly, the transmission today just started to manually shift itself from 2 to 3rd gear and makes a hard clunking sound. A few months ago, it was shifting itself from drive to neutral or low and then back to drive. Also, the fuel sending unit is inoperable. . . The tank registers empty and the light flashes constantly. Heard this is a known problem for isuzu rodeos and Passports. I even work with someone who has a 99 rodeo and has the same problems, but his fuel sending unit went out while he was under warranty. The Honda dealer down here wants over $600 for repair. I feel mislead. I purchased Honda due to success on my other two Hondas. I could have saved over $10,000 and purchased an isuzu rodeo, but I thought by purchasing a Honda, I was getting a reliable SUV. I will never purchase another Honda/isuzu again. . . I have gotten no support from the Honda dealers. Too many problems with this model!. This air brake antilock problem happened on Tuesday, Sep. 3, 2002.

car   Air Brake Antilock problem of Hyundai Sonata

The car involved was a 2001 Hyundai Sonata. My brakes are squeaking loudly and grinding terribly however every time I go to the dealear for this they can never seem to duplicate the problem. I keep taking in to cover myself for the simple fact that if my front end falls to the ground as the vehicle sounds as if though it will I can have documents from the dealer that never seem to duplicate the problem. What other steps can I take in getting this resolved the dealer has told me that's normal for a Hyundai I love my car other than that I'm paying for a 2001 it should not sound as if I'm driving a hooptie everytime I pull up to a stop sign. This problem occurred on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002.

car   Air Brake Antilock problem of Hyundai Santa Fe

The car was a 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe. After starting the car each time, and either backing up and then pulling forward or pulling forward, there is a popping sound and a slight vibration in the accelerator pedal. I took the car back to the dealer and was told that it was the motor mounts, then it was the master cylinder. After having my boss who is a mechanic, drive the car, he said that it was neither of those items, and could possibly have someething to do with the drive train or the u-joints. I relayed this information to the service department and they then went back over the car, and said that they had to call their corporate office. After that call, I was informaed that the noise had to do with the abs system, checking itself. But I wonder if this is the case, since it only happens when I am in a forward motion. I enjoy driving this car, and would reccommend it to anyone who asked. It is comfortable, fun to drive and the noise hasn't seemd to alter the operation of the car and any form. It was 04/09/05 when this air brake antilock issue occurred.

While driving our 2004 infinity G35 on the fwy going about 40 mph (the ground was wet) we felt the track control started to shift side to side, a truck cut in fron us us, which made my husband put on brakes, as he putted on brakes, the driver side front brake locked, which caused for the card to turn sideways and hit the center divider full speed. The brakes after they locked, never stopped the car, the only thing that stopped us was the center divider. The airbags never pop, as we hit the wall going 40 miles per hours. I have taken the car to the dealer recently and had the brakes changed (2 times in 11 months) and the last tme I tood the car I informed the dealer that the brakes felt hard, and they were hard to stop they stated that the brakes will get better with use, and that's how it usually felt after the brakes were changed. The car did not drive the same, the traction was not working, the brakes locked and to top it all the bags did not deployed after impact. This problem occurred on Mon., Feb. 21, 2005.

car   Air Brake Antilock problem of Land Rover Discovery Ii

The vehicle having this issue was a 2000 Land Rover Discovery Ii. There was crash involved with this problem. On 7/1/05 I was driving my 2000 Land Rover discovery series ii on the left lane of I-75 s, in clear weather, on dry pavement, near the 68 mile marker in kentucky(copassengers-my wife & son) enroute to tennessee. Around 1. 45 pm traffic ahead started slowing down. I was driving at about 60 mph, and applied the brake; the vehicle immediately started fishtailing and swerving badly. I did not feel the pulsing of the abs; the vehicle swerved across the right lane & shoulder, hit the guard rail on the right, bounced back, & tipped over on to the right (passenger side) on the shoulder. My wife sustained injuries to her right hand & arm due to the tipping over of the vehicle and the shattering of the front passenger window glass, & was taken to a local hospital by ems ambulance. She will undergo hand surgery. The vehicle sustained serious body damage and was towed to a local towing yard. It was determined not drivable by my auto insurance company appraiser(the vehicle is still capable of starting and moving forward at this time). We (my wife and I ) informed Land Rover north America in maryland of the incident; they said they could not send anyone out to examine it. They suggested we contact any local Land Rover dealership with a service center for a detailed examination of the vehicle. The (closest available) lexington Land Rover dealer/service center refused, citing conflict of interest! the vehicle remains in the towing yard, awaiting a move to a salvage yard soon. No other vehicles/people were involved. We got back home to pennsylvania after the accident. We would like to find out if the abs failure contributed to this accident. Land rover has not made any attempt to contact our auto insurance company, or showed any interest in tackling this problem, other than giving us an address to write to. Therefore, nothing has been done to address/correct this problem so far. The failure date was 07/01/05.

Although there were no skid marks and the officers that responded did not ticket me for failure to stop,Nissan insists that everything checks out and that it must have been operator error. Since this accident I have had my stereo replaced under warranty I have had work done on my steering column due to grinding noises and both motors in my rear windows are failing and need to be replaced, and this is just with 7200 miles on this vehicle, not to mention that every time I get out of the car the brakes smell hot after ashort or long drive and when I get in it the squeal and grind until they get nice and hot and start to smell. car   Air Brake Antilock problem of Saturn VUE

The vehicle involved was a 2003 Saturn Vue. Coming home after a 300 mile highway drive the abs activated on dry pavement at the end of the off-ramp. This happened just as the car was coming to a stop. The brakes came on very hard and unexpectedly. The problem continued while driving home through residential areas. I shut car off at home then took it out again and the abs activated hard and unexpectedly at every stop. I let the car sit the next day, Sunday, and took it in to dealer Monday. On the way to the dealer, the brakes operated normally. They could not find the problem. I've had cars with abs for the past 8 years and never experienced this before. I am concerned about this happening again in heavy traffic and causing loss of control. It was Saturday, December 27, 2003 when this air brake antilock issue occurred.

The vehicle involved is a 2003 Saturn Vue. The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) is 5GZCZ53B03_. Occasionally, sometimes frequently, (I can go a month without it happening), I step on the brakes and just before the final stop, there is a loud groaning sound and then the brakes let the car roll forward a little more before they grab for the final stop. I can feel the pedal pushing back against my foot. I hold constant pressure on the pedal, but the car still rolls forward slightly no matter how hard I push. Twice, the car has actually gone into an intersection several feet more than I expected it to. My husband was with me for one of those incidents. We have taken the car to the dealer for service several times. On each trip, they tell us there is nothing wrong with the brakes. We finally just told them to do a complete brake job and paid $500 for that work. Last week-end, it happened again. Can this be an example of the problem being investigated by NHTSA action number : pe05020?. It was Sat., Apr. 10, 2004 when this air brake antilock issue occurred.

car   Air Brake Antilock problem of Subaru Outback

The vehicle involved was a 2000 Subaru Outback. There was crash involved with this problem. The vehicle identification number (VIN) of this Subaru Outback is 4S3BH68611_. Brakes are very soft or mushy and are slow to respond. They do not effectively engage until the pedal is depressed very close to the floor, thus requiring an inordinate amount of time and distance to stop. The inadequacy of performace contributed substantially, in my judgment, to the accident in which I was involved because the brakes simply failed to start slowing the car down until the pedal was almost completely depressed to the floor. I have just reported it in writing to the dealership from which I purchased the vehicle. I advised my insurance agent and the carrier of my concerns regarding the brakes' performance immediately upon my report of the accident on the day in which it occurred. This air brake antilock issue occurred 12/04/00.

This has almost lead to two rear end accidents reported to dealer. They would not reproduce. This has happened many times during ownership with multiple types of tires and rims. Dt.

The warnings shut off in a few seconds and the car appeared to return to normal.
