Front Suspension Leaf Spring Shackle problem is a common vehicle problem that happens to most car brands and models. The following is a sample list of Front Suspension Leaf Spring Shackle problems reported in most popular vehicles.
The vehicle involved is a 2000 Chevrolet 1500. While driving on a city street I heard a loud bang from the rear of my vehicle. When I got home and looked around I found out my driver side leaf spring shackle snapped in half and the leaf spring shot up and tore a hole in my truck bed. Luckily the truck was unloaded at the time. The shackle rusted through and failed. This front suspension leaf spring shackle problem happened on March 3, 2014.

The vehicle was a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado. While driving, loud bang. Looked under truck, driver's side rear leaf spring shackle had rotted off and the leaf spring busted through the bed of the truck. 2 weeks later, a banging on the under side of bed. Look underneath and the driver's side rear shock mount has rusted off the frame. Not even sure there is enough metal left to weld or put on a new mount! the rear cross member that holds the spare tire is non-existent. It has rusted away. The body of the truck is in great shape. It is just the frame area and mounts that attach to it. I have owned this truck since it was new, it has never been off road and has been kept in excellent running condition. This seems to be an ongoing problem with gm. I have seen many complaints and hopes that the NHTSA takes notice and action. It was 06/07/2013 when this front suspension leaf spring shackle issue happened.

Vehicle identification number (VIN) of the vehicle is 1FTYR14V1Y_. The frame on my 2000 Ford Ranger has rusted through to the point I don't feel safe putting anything in the bed of my truck. It needs to be repaired before I will even feel safe putting it back on the road. I couldn't believe the poor overall condition of the frame but the worst part is at the rear leaf spring shackles, holes completely through. Haven't checked the rest of the frame thoroughly but will this week before I decide if it's even worth the cost of repairs. This was very disappointing to find on a truck that has been fairly well maintained over the years. I wish I would have gotten a full size truck. I guess I better do a little research before I buy something else. I found out that a lot of people are/were aware of the frame issues with these trucks many years ago. I wish I would have done a little homework before buying this Ranger, at least I would have oil sprayed or something to prevent premature failure. Will have to see what else is out there next time I buy a truck. I was hoping to find frame recall info on this issue but I see there are a lot of upset Ranger owners out there because there isn't one. My pevious f150 was around for a lot longer than this one will be. Signed. Disappointed with my 2000 Ranger XLT extended cab 3. 0. This front suspension leaf spring shackle issue occurred Saturday, April 26, 2014.

The vehicle was a 2001 Ford Ranger. When going to install trailer hitch I found that spring and shackle brackets are about to fall off due to severe rust perferation. Also bumper brackets are compromised by severe rust perferation as well as entire spare tire compartment. I have found several forums where the same complaint has been reported and I feel it is a safety hazard due to manufacture of the frame metal. I am concerned that my bumber is going to come off while driving or spare tire or leaf spring shackles causing an accident. Surface rust is expected but total perferation of metal from rust on vehicle this old is not acceptable and is a defect in the metal. This issue happened on Apr. 20, 2014.

The car is a 2006 Nissan Titan. I noticed a sound coming from my backend. When I got home I opened my tailgate I found that my driver side leaf spring shackle had failed and the leaf spring had punctured my bed. I took it to the dealer only to find out the $2000 warranty through wheelz I purchased did not cover it. It seems to be a common thing yet Nissan isn't doing anything about it. This problem occurred on Friday, March 7, 2014.

Purchased used 2000 Toyota Tundra that appeared to be in excellent condition. After driving it for a few days decided to crawl underneath and take a closer look at it. At first glance undercarriage and frame appeared to be in great shape until I noticed undercoating that had large bubbles in it. Poked at the bubbles with my finger and large pieces of rust flaked away from the frame and fell to the floor. Discovered many of these spots on the frame and rear leaf spring shackles. One area of special concern is rear brake lines are rubbing on the frame where the rust has pushed a leaf spring plate away from the frame and has begun to seperate. Did some research and found out how common this is on Tundras and tacomas. Also found out that Toyota has been applying some type of undercoating to these frames so they are aware it is a problem. Called Toyota and the agreed to inspect it at no charge. Of course dealer did not seem to think it was a problem so Toyota customer relations was contacted. Guess what? they see no problem either! apparaently Toyota is spraying this stuff over the rust to buy them some time. Now I find out they had been replacing these frames but that expired at the end of 2012? the tacoma has a 15 yr unlimited mileage warrenty on the frame? is it just me or does this seem a little odd? parts of the frame are paper thin and I personally do not feel it is safe to drive. I will be staying in touch with Toyota about this and I will not settle for the answer they are giving me. How can they admit they have a problem and then at the end of 2012 just pull the plug and pretend it is not a problem any more? I think it might be time to get together with the thousands of other people that are having the same issue to start a class action lawsuit. This front suspension leaf spring shackle issue occurred 08/14/13.
