Front Suspension Stabilizer Bar problem is a common vehicle problem that happens to most car brands and models. The following is a sample list of Front Suspension Stabilizer Bar problems reported in most popular vehicles.
The vehicle involved was a 2006 Chevrolet Hhr. There appears to be a large amount of cobalt and Hhr owners with complaints about suspension clunking noises. Research shows there is an issue with the stabilizer bar parts and also the intermediate steering shaft. These problems occur at many intervals of mileage ranging from 10,000 miles and up. Gm has since sued the manufacturer of the intermediate steering shaft for those replaced under warranty equaling $30mil. I am unlucky as my vehicle was out of warranty (3yr/36000 miles) and could not get any of my suspension and steering problems fixed by a known issue from gm. They have stated that the intermediate steering shaft is not a safety concern. Now, if a part that is vital in connecting the steering column to the rack and pinion system is not a safety concern, then I believe gm executives are more concerned with cost of doing the right thing than safety of their customers. These are parts that keep a vehicle from flipping over during sharp turns at highway speeds and that keep the car traveling in the direction the operator determines using the steering wheel. After replacing the parts to correct my issues, the problem has re-occurred. The parts were not changed so even after "fixing" it, it would eventually return. This issue happened on Wednesday, April 1, 2009.

The car was a 2012 Dodge Caliber. My car currently has 23000 miles on it and still under standard warranty. Within the last month & 1/2 or so they have had to replace nearly everything underneath, all having to do with suspension and steering. Struts were leaking, control arms were replaced, sway bars, stabilizer bar, along with ball joint , and evaporative system. Now being said that this brand new car has had a bad ball joint for quite some miles this could be the reason for everything else to fail!! I have been hearing faint popping/clicking noises since around 10000 miles!! I could have been killed in this vehicle and I still do not feel safe. It is in service once again because of everything that has been damaged! the manufacturer has been slow in responding back to me. Please check into this matter to make sure that other Caliber owners are safe! thank you. This front suspension stabilizer bar problem happened on Thursday, Sep. 5, 2013.

The car involved was a 2004 Dodge Intrepid. The engine out of nowhere blew up, engine shut down and water and oil came out of the oil spout, also always having problems with the steering, having to constantly change the rubbers in the stabilizer bars, I'm complaining because the car is a lemon. The car was a 2001 Ford Windstar. I was driving home when I went around a corner I heard a thump in the front passenger side of my Windstar, the following morning I took it into my mechanic. He looked the vehicle over and told me the sub frame has rusted out where the stabilizer bar connects. This issue was supposed to have been addressed by Ford the previous year when they had it in for the rear axle recall. I find Ford had made the decision to put some useless brackets in and not replace the sub-frame. I called customer care concerning the problem and was told there was only a year warranty on the work so there was nothing they could do as I had picked up the van end of April /beginning of may 2011. A recall was issued for this problem and quite evidently their fix with some little brackets did not repair the issue, I am not sure how some brackets are suppose to correct a rusting out sub frame to begin with. The failure date was Aug. 2, 2012.

The vehicle involved was a 2002 Ford Windstar. The front driver side spring broke in two pieces. Due to the weight of the vehicle the stabilizer bar ended up getting bent. Also, because of the sharp edge where the spring broke it cut the front brake line. I'm grateful that it occurred overnight to where my family and I weren't driving it. This problem occurred on Friday, April 20, 2012.

My 1999 Honda Passport has a rear stabilizer bar holding the wheel in place that is welded onto the frame. The stabilizer bar has rusted off the frame (or "ripped" off the frame while I was driving), causing the wheel to become loose. This vehicle swerved all over the road until I got it stopped. The vehicle is un-drivable and was towed away. There were no warning signs of this going bad. I am still unsure what the fix would be, as it is the frame that is bad. This front suspension stabilizer bar problem happened on Apr. 3, 2010.

1988 Honda Passport - vehicle's driver's side rear wheel stabilizer bar rusted off, causing a near accident. Lost control of vehicle, but was only going 5 mph in a parking lot, so was able to stop vehicle immediately. Entire frame is riddled with rust. Area in rear of vehicle where coil springs are attached to frame is completely rusted through. Rust is extensive, from to rear of frame, pretty much swiss-cheesed with rust. Vehicle is unsafe to drive. No area of frame is unaffected. Able to push finger through the frame in many areas. Body of vehicle is in pristine condition with no body rust. Looks new, except for the face that the frame is basically rusting off of the body of the Honda Passport. Honda America states they are not responsible for this. I personally feel his is a safety issue, these vehicles are not safe or trustworthy to drive. No warning there was a problem while I was driving the vehicle, sudden "boom" at which time I stopped the vehicle at the curb of the driveway to the parking lot. Vehicle is unusable. Area where stabilizer bar fell off is not repairable because there is no good metal on the frame to weld a repair to. Passport was well taken care of, excellently maintained, body, interior and engine in excellent condition. Just have no frame to put the body on. Honda America told me "we are aware there is a problem, but when thousands are affected and millions of these were made, we don't consider it to be an issue". Isuzu rodeo are affected identically, the same area of rust is the first indication there is an issue, the rear driver's side stabilizer bar falls/rusts off while driving. We are the sole owners of this Passport, not a flood car, not near the ocean and not in an area where salt is used extensively on the roads. Again, there is no part of the frame unaffected by rust. A 50 year old vehicle has a better frame on it than my 1998. The failure date was January 21, 2009.

The VIN of this Qx4 is JNRAR05Y3V_. I own a 1997 Infiniti Qx4. While traveling 45 mph or more, the vehicle begins to wobble and vibrate violently, seemilngly from the rear. The vehicle was taken to mechanics on several occasions where the rear shocks and passenger side bushings and trail stabilizer bar and four tires were replaced on the vehicle however, the vehicle continues to experience the wobble, shake, fishtail and earthquake. " I bought this 1997 Infiniti Qx4 from cars unlimited here in houston, TX. The owner is rod carlye and I bought 'as is'. Although dealer owner was non-integral, lied and told me vehicle was in good condition and safe, he is not liable under rule by the as is. This vehicle is extremely unsafe. I have taken the vehicle to over 6 mechanics by now. All tell me vehicle is extremely unsafe. I tried making it safer since I am stuck with it by changing the shocks and the trailer stabilizer bar after I learned it had been in an accident and the passenger side bar was bent. That by no means fixed the earthquake swaying and the awful rear end fish-tailing all over the road. Can't drive it in the rain. Can't get caught in the rain, it slides into other people's lanes. Cops look at me crazy as if I'm drunk. I drive 40 miles or less to keep from getting pulled over. The insurance company who handled the previous drivers' claim should have salvaged it. It looks super pretty on the outside. Will fool a lot of women into buying it. Not safe!. This front suspension stabilizer bar issue occurred 04/14/14.

The vehicle involved was a 2007 Jeep Wrangler sahara. The VIN of the car is 1J4GA59177_. The problem started late February 2014. I took my Jeep to the dealership and explained my problem in great detail and they were aware of the this problem, the death wobble. So they called me later and said it's fixed. Which it wasn't I pulled out and only a few minutes later it happened so I went back and asked them if they bothered to test drive to see if it was actually fixed and they said no. This blew my mind especially since it's dangerous. So after they put on a new stabilizer bar I took it to a new place since that was the 4th bad experience I've had with that dealership. The back up place started their inspection of problem and noticed the stabilizer was faulty and he started with replacing that again. I got the Jeep back to only find it was still not fixed. I've taken the Jeep back 5 times to have the following items replaced in this order: stabilizer bar/wheel alignment and tire rotation, stabilizer bar again, all new shocks, steering damper/tie rod ends, and track bar. $2000 worth of work and it is still not fixed. Now I'm at a point where I just don't know what to do. The mechanic is stumped and replaced the entire suspension system. I feel like this vehicle is extremely dangerous to drive so now I'm stuck with a lemon or sell to someone else which is not right either. I'm blown away this is a well documented problem and that the manufacturer has done nothing to remedy issue. This has caused me to almost of been run over by 70mph semis, run two other cars off the road and it's only a matter of time before I get hurt or killed or someone else does. It was Monday, February 24, 2014 when this front suspension stabilizer bar issue occurred.

The car is a 2005 Jeep Wrangler. Death wobble!!!! started about Dec 2011 around speeds of 55-60 mph. Car will suddenly start to violently shake. When viewing from behind in another car it appears as if the wheels may come off. I have replaced the shocks, struts, stabilizer bar, track bar, springs, spacers, calipers, hubs, new tires, balance and rotate tire every 5000-6000 miles, new front brakes, new back brakes, two rear alignments, 3 front alignments, and rotors, I death wobble has gone from bad to dangerously worse. My Wrangler is a factory right hand drive Jeep that I use to deliver mail. I was using as my primary car as well. I must drive 25 miles to work via interstate and then another 65 miles on my route. The car consistently shakes when I hit speeds of 45 mph or higher. A bump in the road will trigger the wobble as well. I spoke to two different Jeep dealerships today and was told that there is no solution to my problem. I have been to at least 6 different mechanic shops, one off road shop, and two different alignment shops. I was told that I could try replacing the gear box ($899. 99) and also try replacing my rims! if the maker of my vehicle has no idea on what or how to fix it. . . . . . . . Then who will? I would like to resolve my death wobble. I am extremely annoyed! I no longer feel safe driving my car to and from work and when it rains I am a nervous wreck just knowing I will have to drive my Jeep on the interstate. Sadly its gotten to the point that I will not allow any of my kids in this vehicle. I end up having to leave my Jeep at work in another town if my husband isn't able to drive it to and from work for me. I am willing to fix the problem. . . . . . . If Jeep would just let me know what that is!!!! in good conscious I could never sell and stick someone else with this problem/headache!! also, when I fill my Jeep up with gas, it overflows splashing gas everywhere!. The failure date was Dec. 9, 2011.

The vehicle was a 1998 Lexus Ls400. Driving at 25 mph I heard a beeping sound and the vsc off light on the dash came up along with the check engine light. I believe my vehicle then went into fail safe mode because the vehicle would no longer allow me to accelerate with gas pedal. However vehicle would move approximately 12(mph) on its own when I release constant pressure from the brake pedal. When I placed in neutral or park position, rpm's would rise to about 2000(rpm). Turned off power to vehicle and restarted, still vehicle would only move 12(mph) on its own. Again powered down vehicle and restarted then turned off the vsc before the car would scan for trouble and this action returned to me control over the vehicle. I noticed the gs300 and gs400 Lexus was recalled April 16, 1998-NHTSA campaign id number 98v080000. My question is if the same vsc system is on the Ls400, I believe it should receive equal treatment if perhaps this problem is related in some odd way to the yaw rate sensor. The vehicle was a 2001 Mercedes Benz Clk320. Crash happened when the problem occurred. I was backing out of a parking space when my passenger side control arm broke. The front passenger side wheel splayed out and bent the fender. I had the car towed to a garage that was very nearby. The mechanic noted that the control arm was hollow and seemed to be rusting. He was able to detect that the driver side control arm had a similar problem in the making and that the stabilizer bar had stress crack. All were replaced over the next few weeks while I was on vacation. The total cost was slightly under $2900. It was a bit scary and I was certainly glad that I was not driving fast when this cataclysmic failure occurred. I thought that mercedes should hear about the problem and when I returned from vacation, called my dealer who had done all of the mechanical service and repairs on the car since it was bought. They were having phone and e-mail communication problems and did not call back for quite a while. They suggested that I let mbusa know about my concern. I immediately e-mailed mbusa. They took until recently to reply. They tell me that there is no current service campaign and that the government has not initiated a recall on the problem. I have pictures documenting the problem and some of the parts if anyone wants to inspect them. I am fine and do not need any reimbursement. But, I worry that some poor fellow is going to have the same problem at 55 mph and not live to write to you about this dangerous problem. Hopefully my problem is either a one time event or if it is endemic or a design flaw, somebody will get out ahead of this problem before someone suffers. Thanks for helping to make this a safer world. The failure date was 06/28/2013.

The VIN of the car is 4A3AA46G91_. There is a rattling noise coming from under my car (2001 Mitsubishi Galant). This is a noise that I have never heard before. So I took the car to two different mechanics and was told that the noise is due to a defective suspension rack. My car is only 4 years old and only has 44,500 miles on it. This is a manufacturing defect. I called the Mitsubishi dealership in town and was told that the warranty had expired and that I was out of luck. But this is a major repair (the part is expensive, about $750) and it it not due to wear and tear. A suspension rack is not supposed to break on a 2001 car with only 44,500 miles. Is there anything that can be done? I can pay for the labor but I believe that Mitsubishi is responsible for the damaged part. Thank you. Catherine carlile. I pulled over immediately. Car was towed. The cause and damage was determined to be a broken coil spring which chain reacted and caused the front strut to break, and bend the stabilizer bar. After researching this, I have found this to be a common problem in 03-05 SAAB 9-3 (listed with NHTSA as well as other sources) it is not recalled and SAAB has yet to determine if they will fix this as a courtesy. The car was a 2003 SAAB 9-3. On 8/2/09, I was driving my vehicle when suddenly there was a loud bang. Car pulled to the extreme right with a strong odor of burning rubber. Luckily was able to gain control without hitting anyone and stopped the vehicle. It was quite obvious the front of the car was lower than the back. The smell of rubber was from the spring going into the front passenger tire. The vehicle was towed to a local garage where it was discovered the front passenger spring broke & ate into the front tire. It also pulled out the struts & broke the bracket/top as well. I was very satisfied with SAAB until this. Car is 6 years old, well maintained with only 56,700 miles. This incident has certainly made me apprehensive especially when I did research an found there has been a rash of broken front passenger springs reported, yet no recalls. Parts replaced: strut assembly, strut top, spring pair, bracket, stabilizer bar control link, pirelli tire. It was 08/02/09 when this front suspension stabilizer bar issue happened.

The car involved was a 2004 Toyota Tundra. I took my truck to the Toyota dealer because of a noise in the front end. It turns out the frame at the attachment points for the stabilization bar was badly rusted. There are rust holes in the frame and the attachment point on the left side had rusted free of the frame and the other side is not to far behind. Toyota has a history of rusted frames but according to the VIN number it is not part of the current recalls. I was told sorry we can't fix it. This is not right!!!! can you help. This problem occurred on August 8, 2013.

The car is a 2005 Buick Lacrosse. VIN of the vehicle was 2G4WC53245_. A creaking sound was noticed usually when turning the steering wheel or in a constant state turn mostly at speeds below 40 mph. Car was taken to a gm (Buick ) dealer garage and it was diagnosed as the rack and pinion. Dealer recommended replacing the rack and pinion, tie rods, power steering pump and hose and also recommended replacing the struts. I took the car to a garage that does MD state inspections to have the car inspected and they quickly found the issue. . . . The front stabilizer bar was fatigue cracked completely through at the attach point on one end and only the bolt was holding it together. The stabilizer bar was replaced and the noise went away. If I had taken the gm dealer's advice I would have spent at least $1,850 and still had the problem. The mech. At the inspection station says that this is a chronic problem with certain gm makes/models. This front suspension stabilizer bar problem happened on October 1, 2013.
