The vehicle involved is a 2001 Dodge 1500. The left rear main leaf spring failed while driving 55 mph. At the time of failure the truck had approximately 35000 miles on it and the repair was covered under warranty. With approximately 70000 miles on the truck the right rear main leaf failed as well. This repair was not covered and I was informed by the "certified Chrysler repair facility" that they had never seen this problem before and there were no recalls or bulletins concerning this failure. This truck has never carried a load and has never been abused. Both springs broke in the same place (where the steel is rolled to accommodate the shackle bolt). This is a clean straight break and appears to be the result of excessive heat in the manufacture process. This is most definitely a "manufacturer defect" and as such should be the responsibility of the Chrysler corporation. This rear suspension leaf spring leaf problem happened on Jul. 9, 2004.

I own a 13 month old 2002 Nissan Xterra that has 32,600 miles on it and has never been driven off-road. The leaf spring on the driver's side broke at the rear mounting bolt. Luckily we caught it immediately and the dealer is replacing it under warranty. Has this been a problem with the Xterra and should the other one be replaced at the same time? the dealer claims to have looked at the other one and sees no problem at this time. I'm concerned about the safety because I do a lot of high speed driving with my daughter in the car. This issue happened on March 6, 2003.

The vehicle involved is a 2000 Toyota Tundra. Left rear leaf sprng snapped while driving casually on central street in winchendon. The sprng subsequently beat up agains the gas tank. The dealer, norm wagner Toyota volksswagen refused to accept any responsbilty for the repairs the vehicle had about 4100 miles on it at the time. I would consider this a major problem when this happens as the gas tank could have ruptured causing several possible accidents. This issue happened on Sep. 9, 2003.

Vehicle identification number (VIN): 5TEWN72N12_. The Toyota Tacoma had a rear axle wrap up, this was where the two piece driveshaft becomes loose at the spleen and caused a clung or looseness in the drive line, which caused undue stress on the engine and the transmission, which could cause the driveshaft to break at the yoke and fall to ground, causing an accident. This was getting progressively worse on the truck. I have taken the car under warranty to the dealer. They dismissed it as normal. This was not normal. It was a flaw in the springs they used on the truck. This rear suspension leaf spring leaf issue occurred 05/23/07.
