car   Steering Linkage Connection problem of Chevrolet Kodiak

The vehicle having this issue was a 2007 Chevrolet Kodiak. The VIN of this Kodiak is 1GBE4E1207_. In reference to complaint #10217562, this is an addendum. The vehicle has since been to an alignment facility, and it has been determined that the steering wheel was repositioned approximately 50 degrees off center by the end manufacturer---monroe truck equipment. This deviation from center was subsequently reported by us to an engineer at zf linksystem (the manufacturer of the steering gear), and their opinion was that the steering gear was not at its optimal position--this adversely affects steering "play" and the range of steering left or right. Upon testing the vehicle, it was evident that there is 1/2 greater turn capability to the left, compared to the right. (there were 2. 5 turns left of center in the steering, and 2 turns to the right. ) the effect on turn radius has not yet been determined. The expert consensus was that the drag link should have been shortened to maintain the original turning specification and performance. This may be the inciting factor in the bump steer complaint. It may also be responsible for the operator's difficulty in recovering from such a bump steer event. Monroe truck equipment denied the alignment as part of their warranty obligation and has denied that their modifications have had significant impact on the vehicle's steering. It was Dec. 28, 2007 when this steering linkage connection issue happened.

Vehicle identification number (VIN) of the vehicle is 4S6DM58W71_. 2001 Honda Passport exl isuzu mfg in Aug 2000. Purchased used in Nov 2004, was leased to 1 person, then at end of lease auctioned to place I bought from. Front brake pads and rotors replaced 1 month after purchase. Check engine light goes off 1 month after purchase. Exhaust flange replaced 1 month after purchase. 3 months after purchase fuel indicator goes wacky, check engine light goes off and on. 1 year after purchase engine dies, intercooler was culprit, only 76,000 miles on vehicle. Transmission was found to have a leak, the right servo rubber seal was replace. Exhuast has leak at or up to y pipe area. Something underneath is cracked severly. I am depressed, as I paid $19,000 am stuck paying $31,000 in long run through financial institute, and can't do anything with negative equity, and bad credit history. Dealership refused to fix problems when first purchased and still refuses to offer financial relief. Warranty CO. And financial institute are just as uncaring. I was made to believe it was a sturdy, long lasting vehicle, and have since found out otherwise. Oil is big problem, have to feed it half to 3/4 qt. Every 2 days. Gas consumption is poor, can only go 110 mi. Per fill up. Oil, oil filter and air filter are changed on regular basis. Shocks are the pits, takes bumps hard, and feels like it is going to break in the rear. Also known problem is the rear clunk, thump on stop and go, is caused by a item underneath that turns. Could of been killed when engine died on major highway, but was able to roll off to shoulder before ceasure. I consider major depression from this a injury. The failure date was Sunday, November 7, 2004.

car   Steering Linkage Connection problem of Jeep Grand Cherokee

The car involved is a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving to florida in our 1999 Jeep grang cherokee, the tie rod on drivers side dropped to the ground. Fortunately for us, we were not going fast at the time. The tie rod end which consists of a ball and socket came apart. Inspection by a Jeep dealer determined that all 4 tie rod ends (2 tie rod and 2 drag link) were loose and in danger of failing. If we had been moving at highway speed when the failure occurred, we would have lost all steering control. There are no grease fittings on the failed and failing parts and no mention of having the tie rod ends checked at regular intervals in the owners manual. We ended up having all four tie rod ends replaced, the vehicle aligned, and buying four new tires, but that being said, we just feel fortunate we weren't in a serious accident or worse. The failure of the tir rod ends should be made a recall for the protection of other Jeep owners. It was 12/24/02 when this steering linkage connection issue happened.
