Steering Noise problem is a common vehicle problem that happens to most car brands and models. The following is a sample list of Steering Noise problems reported in most popular vehicles.

car   Steering Noise problem of Chevrolet Traverse

The car involved is a 2009 Chevrolet Traverse. The vehicle identification number (VIN) of the car was 1GNER13D59_. It is difficult to steer and makes a noise when steering. Had the car in to the shop and he said power steering fluid is good and to contact the dealer because there are 1,000's of complaints regarding this same very dangerous safety issue. Called the dealer and they claim to have not heard of this issue. This car has had 6 recalls and now this very dangerous safety issue that had not been recalled. Gm needs to take care of this. I am afraid to even drive the vehicle because of the seriousness of this. Nor do I feel that the consumer should pay for the repairs when this is happening in 1000's of vehicles. It is obvious that there is yet another found problem with this vehicle. I am very disappointed in gm that they are not taking these complaints serious and fixing the vehicles. It was Thu., Apr. 3, 2014 when this steering noise issue occurred.

car   Steering Noise problem of Chevrolet Traverse

The vehicle involved is a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse. Vehicle identification number (VIN): 1GNLVGED6A_. We have a 2010 Traverse and like many owners the power steering has quit working at slow speeds and is a safety hazard. It is impossible at slow speeds to turn the steering wheel. It is very bad when trying to park the car or even turn at red lights. This is something that numerous owners have had issues with and is a faulty system. It started with a small noise coming from the steering wheel then progressed to every once in a while not turning to now never working at slow speeds. If this was not a common problem with these cars then I would send it to mechanic to get fixed but since there are many cars effected and even a class action lawsuit over this issue it does not seem right to pay so much money for a car that is such a safety hazard. Please for all the adults and kids riding in these cars check into this issue and get gm to fix all their safety issues and not just a few select models. This system from my understanding uses some of the same technology that the safety recall in place on certain models. This steering noise issue occurred Jul. 1, 2013.

car   Steering Noise problem of Chrysler Town & Country

The vehicle involved was a 2006 Chrysler town and country. Whining noise coming from under left side of hood. Took car to Chrysler dealership & was told that the whining noise was from the power steering & it needs a reservoir & it needs to reroute cooler hose . Was also told there is a bulletin on how this would be done. After seeing the many problems other customers are having I can't understand why Chrysler would let the safety of their customers suffer. What happened to "we will take responsibility for the failure of our product". This problem will cost from $400-$500, but will cost so much more if the loyal american customer is lost. I love my t&c but I will not be a support system or doormat for a company we have all helped from the brink. The car only has 78k miles & I was just about to pass it on to my daughter, but this is dangerous & I will not be buying another of your products! please be responsible & forget the greed & step up Chrysler!. car   Steering Noise problem of Dodge Avenger

The car is a 2013 Dodge Avenger. The car feels like it jumps a bit when going from accelerating to slowing to stopping. Feels like a vibration slowing down. Also there had been noises coming from the steering column area. And you could hear like a clicking noise. There was another different noise from that area as well. The noises are hard to describe. It has been in the shop and they are basically not finding anything wrong with it. The clicking/sounds are not normal and that vibration is not normal regardless of what they say. The car does not run as smooth as a brand new car should run. Will not purchase a Dodge again. This issue happened on Friday, November 16, 2012.

car   Steering Noise problem of Dodge Avenger

The vehicle involved was a 2013 Dodge Avenger. Car was purchased at the end of October with 17 miles on it. Very shortly after, the engine light came on. The dealership turned the light off and it came back on a day or so later. They turned it off and supposedly checked the car. A while after noises started to become more prevalent. The main noise is coming from the steering column area. It happens when there are sharp turns, backing and turning, and if its cold. The noise is hard to describe. It sounds like a thump/clicking type of noise. Very annoying and somewhat alarming since the dealership has not been able to fix it in several months. . . Another noise is coming from a little to the left of steering column. This is more of a faint noise. Sounds like small clicking. One other noise came from the center of the front of the car. It sounded like something just dropped. Like something just fell down. It was very scary actually. The dealership has worked for months to diagnose the problem with this car and have been unsuccessful. This was my first purchase ever and I am very unhappy. I have been told it is not a safety issue but I am not convinced. I think it is an issue that hasn't been brought up very much yet. The cars are brand new and people are still breaking them in and such. I do not feel as safe as I had in this car. I will never purchase Dodge again. This problem occurred on December 1, 2012.

car   Steering Noise problem of Jeep Liberty

We never had any problems with the steering on our 2006 Jeep Liberty until we had a severe cold snap (Jeep was bought in FL and now resides in DE) and then all of a sudden it developed a screeching, straining noise in the steering and all around driving. It didn't matter what speed we drove the noise was always there and consistent, whether you turned a corner, put on the brakes, backed up or drove on the road normally almost sounded like the brakes were dragging but we had the brakes changed in April 2013. Took Jeep to our auto repair shop and they diagnosed the vehicle with bad upper and lower ball joints. Don't understand why this would happen all of a sudden but in ended up a very costly repair. Enjoy our Jeep but if there was any recalls for ball joints we were never notified. It was Monday, Jan. 6, 2014 when this steering noise issue occurred.

It was raining outside and I left my home to go to the store and went to turn the corner and there was a very loud grinding noise and the steering wheel froze, just completely seized on me and I drove right into the curb opposite the road. I had a child in the car with me and it was terrifying! now, I cannot drive at all in the rain or even if there's puddles on the road! I see that there's others that have had this same issue, even some having wrecks on the freeway! why isnt this a recall issue!? it is hurricane season here, and its been near impossible to make an appointment at the dealer with all the rain every day, nor do they allow you to just drop off your car and leave it unless its towed in which I cannot do. I surfed the web and found that some Nissan altimas are also experiencing the loud intermittent whinning noise from the electronic steering. I filed a complaint with Nissan consumer affairs case id# 14055152 about this problem. I believe that Nissan is aware of this intermittent loud whinning noise from the electronic steering and is refusing to anything about it. car   Steering Noise problem of Volkswagen Passat

The car is a 2012 Volkswagen Passat. The VIN of the problem Passat is 1VWBH7A31C_. When I started my car, a loud strange noise came from the steering wheel. The controls on my steering wheel would no longer work, and a warning light came on for my airbag. As my husband drove us home, I searched the owner's manual for the airbag warning light. The error message is to warn the driver that the airbag is not working properly and may not deploy as it should or may deploy when it's not supposed to. The owner's manual did not warn of an accident, but I'm pretty sure the airbag deploying unexpectedly would probably cause a car accident. My husband took my car in to the mckinney, TX vw dealership first thing the next morning. They said the clock spring had malfunctioned. They replaced this part, but my steering wheel still makes a clicking sound when turning. This is the same sound we heard while we drove home the night before with the warning light on. I returned to the dealership and was informed the clock spring was defective. They replaced the clock spring again, but I again heard the same clicking noise when turning. When I returned to the dealership a third time, I was told that all of the Passats make this noise, and that there is nothing wrong. My steering did not make noise the first 40,000 miles I put on the car, so I'm worried there is a defect with this part. I bought this car brand new. I found online that a lot of other Passat owners have this same complaint, and many of them had clock springs replaced because they were told they were defective as well. With so many defective parts, this seems worthy of a recall since the airbag could deploy without warning causing a major accident. This steering noise issue occurred Sunday, Mar. 16, 2014.

car   Steering Noise problem of Volvo S80

The car was a 2010 Volvo S80. The VIN of the problem S80 is YV1982AS7A_. I received a notice from Volvo of na regarding my 2010 s-80. Volvo said they were extending the warranty coverage for the steering gear to 7 years from 5 years because "there is a potential for insufficient sealing in the steering gear. This can lead to water or moisture intrusion, resulting in internal corrosion and oil seepage. This condition can result in a long term gradual increase in steering effort and noise. " Volvo did not issue a recall to fix this problem since they determined it was not a safety issue. I would like the NHTSA to investigate this issue and determine if a recall is necessary as a safety issue--it would seem to me that anything affecting the ability to steer the car would be a safety issue. The letter from Volvo was dated Dec 17, 2010. This problem occurred on Dec. 17, 2010.

car   Steering Noise problem of Buick Enclave

The vehicle was a 2011 Buick Enclave. Reported issue to dealer of car making whining noise at low speeds. Dealer says I need a new power steering rack, hoses and possibly a new pump! the car is a is only a 2011 and very well maintained! spoke with gm - they contacted dealer wondering why no recall since every single forum I read has hundreds of people complaining about this same exact issue. I was furious that they refuse to acknowledge this as a problem. They say that there are not enough power steering noise problems reported to require them to issue a recall. They say that they are not responsible for this decision. It is a federal safety issue and that they issue recalls based on numbers, however, this has not happened often enough to issue a recall. They are offering me a "deal" to get the car fixed at my dealer. They will pay all but $500 toward the rack and labor. I need to cover the hoses and possibly the pump if it is bad. Also, if there is a recall in the future I will be reimbursed retroactively for my expenses. Isn't this an admission that there is a problem??? I am so angry! my dealer, however sings a different tune from gm. Says that this problem exists quite frequently in the Enclave, acadia and the chevy traverse. . . . . . I am not sure that I believe or trust anything they have to say! I have a 2011 Enclave (which I absolutely loved up until now!) with 60k on it. Now out of warranty - eventually this will have to be fixed - leaving a very large dent in my pocket and a hole in my heart because I really thought I would have this car for a long time. However, once it is paid off I am dumping it. No more Buicks or gm cars for me. Not ever! I really wish that someone would begin investigating gm and this issue. It is a huge safety conce, not to mention a very expensive fix. Please contact me to discuss and let me know what concerned folks such as myself can do to deal with this! thank you!!!!!. This problem occurred on 02/18/2014.
