The vehicle was a 2001 Dodge Stratus. This should be handled as a top priority investigation. The front axles bearings have been replaced 3 times on right and left front. The front ball joints and control arms have been replaced once all covered under warranty by manufacturer. Axle bearing failure occured at 21,000 miles vehicle was 6 months old. Then again 6 months later with 38,000 miles on it , at that time it was discovered the ball joints on the upper and lower on both sides were worn out, manufacturer covered under warranty. Recently a power steering line which runs from the power steering pump to the power steering resevoir started leaking, upon inspection I found it had been leaking for a while but finally opened up. The casue is the design of the power steering line, it rubs against the a/c line which is metal and wore a hole in the line. I purchased the line front the local Dodge dealer. The line has been superceeded 3 times, a obvious design problem. I am ase certified technician, the following problems I listed are very serious and Dodge is aware of them. Comment to me was the axle bearings and ball joints are a very common problem, this came from the dealer it self. The dealers also can not keep the power steering lines in stock. Potential risk associated with this failures are as follows, ball joint and axle bearing failure should they break while operating on the highway can cause loss of control of vehicle. The power steering line when it finally ruptures after it has worn through can cause a potential fire hazard due to the proximity of the exhaust system and also loss of power steering. Although my vehicle has 64,000 miles on it, it is only 15 months old and is driven exclusively on the highway. These failures are not normal on any vehicle with the mileage I listed and should prompt an investigation before someone gets injured. The superceeded power steering line can be confirmed at any Dodge or Chrysler dealer. Thank you kevin gilmore dt. It was Nov. 10, 2002 when this hydraulic power assist steering system issue happened.

I have made the same complaint that the 2004 Lexus GX 470 moves (steering wheel) with the crown in the road dramatically. The company and the dealer are no longer acknowledging the problem. The problems have been occuring since the day I took delivery and you never actually feel like you have control over the SUV. The vehicle identification number (VIN) is 1LNFM82WXX_. Crash was involved with this problem. On or about October 19, 1999, we purchased a 1999 Lincoln Town Car from the dealer which is really dan pfeiffer. We were told that the car had never been in an accident. We were told a lot of things which were not true. In any case, we had nothing but trouble with the car and finally we researched the history of the car ourselves when it became apparent that the dealership was just stringing us along. It turns out that the Lincoln had been totaled in an accident about 5 months before we purchased it. State farm insurance company totaled the car but then directly or indirectly caused it to be cosmetically repaired and we ended up paying $46,000 financed for a car which had been totaled about five months before we purchased it. Since I am sure that the dealership knew about the accident prior to our purchasing the car, do they have sources of information which would show the history to them but not the consumer? it does not show up on carfax or vhr and the like. However, we do have a beautiful title suitable for framing if nothing else.

The vehicle having this issue was a 2002 Mazda Tribute. On November 2 driving 40mph with no warning my engine shut off and I lost power to my steering and brakes. I was able to get the car to the side of the road after applying all my weight to the brakes and steering wheel. I missed an oncoming car and a tree by luck. I took the Tribute to the dealership and was told by the service manager that this was an ongoing problem. They were going to put me back in the Tribute until Monday when they had an opening. I requested a rental car because I did not feel safe driving the car untill the problem was resolved. The manager also told me that the Tributes that have been repaired for this same problem have been different porblems. I returned home and called the Mazda customer service department and reported the problem. They assured me that they would look into it and get back with me, this never happened. On November 6th I received a call from the dealership that my car was ready. I asked to speak with the sevice manager who informed me they could not find anything wrong and I could pick up my car. I told him I would not pick up the car until there was a solution to correct the problem and the car was not safe to drive. He infomed me that his hands were tied and to contact Mazda. I contacted Mazda and they contacted the sevice manager who had already contacted the regional manager. I was told I would be contacted by him tomorrow November 7th. I have a 15 year old son who has his learners permit and who I strongly believe would not have been able to avoid what could have been a fatal accident. The car is still at the dealership. My Tribute is the first 2002 that they have seen with the problem. Obviously this serious safety problems continues. This hydraulic power assist steering system problem happened on Nov. 2, 2001.

The car involved is a 2008 Mercedes Benz Ml350. We were told that the vehicle needed the steering rack input shaft valve assembly replaced. We called a local shop to get a second quote for the work and were told that they wouldn't quote us or touch it because of a recall on the model and year -- NHTSA campaign id# 08v682000. We called mb back, and they told us our VIN wasn't included in the recall, but we could request to have a post-warranty coverage or partial coverage determination made. The vehicle having this issue was a 2006 Saturn Ion. While traveling at city speeds (approx 35mph), the vehicle's information center sounded a "ding" and displayed a message reading "pwr str". This occurred suddenly and without warning. According to the owner's manual, the message "pwr str" indicates a power steering failure, an indication confirmed by the fact that turning the steering wheel suddenly became extremely difficult, requiring a significant amount of effort to turn the steering wheel beyond 1-2 degrees from its present location. I estimate this effort would exceed the abilities of some drivers, given the sudden onset and difference in effort required to turn the wheel before and after this problem occurs. This has happened to me on multiple occasions, including while driving at highway speeds (55-65mph) and while traveling in a parking lot (5-15mph). Turning the engine off and restarting it shortly thereafter seems to correct the problem; the message is no longer displayed and the steering works as expected. However, I have noticed with the recent incidents that turning the engine off and on again only fixes the problem for approximately one mile of travel before the problem occurs again. To date, I have managed to avoid getting into a collision as a result of this sudden loss of power steering, however I feel that this is a serious safety problem that could result in injuries or deaths if the problem were to occur while the driver is actively turning the steering wheel (e. G. Turning, changing lanes, navigating a parking structure) or if the driver lacks the strength necessary to turn the wheel without functional power steering. It would seem this problem is already under investigation (NHTSA action number: rq10004), and I would urge you to have this component recalled as it is a serious safety concern. This hydraulic power assist steering system problem happened on 08/24/2011.
