The car was a 2012 Chrysler 300. I came to a stop at a four way intersection. I accelerated to turn at about 5mph instead of the car turning the steering locked up for about 1-2 seconds. Then drove normal until I got to my destination which was a few minutes away & turned the car off. I got off the car & went into the store. Went I finished shopping I returned to the car & tried to start it up. It would not start & steering wheel & brakes were locked. The power steering light, stability control & brake lights would blink & say service engine. About an hour into this I tried to turn the car on. It turned on but the steering wheel was barley turnable I tried to move it a few inches. For the wrecker service personal once I moved it the cars steering was back to normal & working. I plan on taking it to the Dodge dealership tomorrow morning. I just really hope this does not happen again while driving at a high speed. This problem occurred on Nov. 28, 2013.

I currently own a 2011 Dodge Charger and I got into my car and noticed that all of the lights were on in the dash board from the wind shield wipers, power steering service light was flashing, brake lights I mean every light was on. I took the car to the dealer because I purchased the car December 2012 and I remember the dealer saying that I had the previous owners warranty but to find out I only had the power train warranty and was told that I had to pay $120. 00 just for a diagnostic. My husband was furious and took the car to another shop and they stated that the car just needed fuses when all of the fuses were replaced all of the lights went off but the power steering went all the way out so now I have not been able to drive my car until I can get the money to see what is wrong with the power steering it is unfortunate that my car has been sitting up for 2 months now. A fairly new car and I am having these problems this is just crazy I check the Dodge website for recalls and I didn't see anything. This power steering light on issue occurred Oct. 28, 2013.

The vehicle was a 2009 GMC Acadia. The VIN of this Acadia is 1GKEV13D39_. When trying to steer the vechile below 5 mph's (engine below 1200 rpm), the steering wheel will lock up and is very hard to steer. My wife had this happen to her the first when she was pulling into our diriveway (thankfully it did not happen in the city). She told me about it, so I then took it to town shopping. It took a while before it happened to me, but finally it did when I was making a tight right hand turn into a menards parking lot. I started the turn and notice instantly that I had no steering. I almost hit another car because I was not able to steer sharp enough or fast enough for the right hand turn. After that, I got in the parking lot and did a little testing. I figured out that the steering was locked, and if the engine was reved over 1200 engine rpm, the steering would come back slightly. After several try's, it did come back. Dont know if I can trust it to work all the time??? it appears the problem is worse after the car has been run for a while. With cold temps it works until the steering system warms. , then problem is random. Scarey!!! feels like there is a flow control valve maybe that is in pump, and when it sticks open, the steering is lost at idle speeds. Not a good deal. . . The failure date was Wednesday, December 12, 2012.

The VIN of this Civic is 2HGFA15596_. There was crash involved with this Honda Civic. I had a car accident on the huntingdon side of pine groves mountain on PA 26 south. I drove a Honda Civic 06 lx. When I was going down the mountain, I applied the brake normally to slow down before a curve when the speed was at 60 mph, but my car was drifting, not like hydroplaning at all. There was no water to cause that but it rained five to six hours before the accident. During the whole course of incident, the steering wheel was not responsive. When it started to drift, it skidded towards the incoming lane. I tried to correct the steering wheel slightly, it took much more force to operate the steering wheel and the direction was not corrected, so I adjusted it more. Then the head suddenly turned 60 to 80 degrees and hit the guardrail and then the car turned more than 180 degrees clockwise; then the tail hit a stop-sign pole and the car stopped in the mud. Since the car was still drivable, I did not call the police to check the scene. I think it was caused by Honda's design defects since I had goodyear four-season tires with more than enough grids, so I want to hire an investigator to investigate my case and ask Honda to buy the car back. But none of the law firms I contacted could help me. During the whole course, there was no car coming in both directions. Two cars passed me by when I was pulling my car out of mud but none of them stopped, so I guess there was no witness. The first time when I applied the brake again after the incident, I felt the brake was flimsy, so I drove much slower later, at around 40 mph. I am not sure if the brake could handle that wet road again, but most of time at most places the brake does not fail, so I assume I experienced a case, on wet road with downhill gravity, that the car is incapable of handling. It was Friday, Apr. 11, 2014 when this power steering light on issue occurred.

The vehicle involved is a 2007 Honda Fit. I've had this issue numerous times over the past few years. When the ambient temperature is below approximately 45 degrees f, the electronic power steering module relay makes a strange clicking buzzing sound immediately after the engine starts. The power steering warning indicator light stays illuminated on the dash and the steering wheel is very stiff and difficult to move. The condition can be remedied by turning the key to the off position, waiting a few seconds and trying again, although this cycle may have to be repeated a dozen times before the power steering comes back on. Driving the vehicle without the electronic power steering active is dangerous as it's obvious the system was designed to be highly assisted. You could find yourself in a situation where you are stranded by this issue. Apparently it's a common one, so much so that Honda has issued a service bulletin for it which calls for replacing the eps module at a cost of $700+. Luckily I haven't had it fail while driving but I'm afraid it could as it has for others. It's obvious with the frequency of this issue that there was a manufacturing defect in the eps module which should warrant a recall. It was Jan. 1, 2011 when this power steering light on issue happened.

The car was a 2013 Kia Motor Optima. The vehicle identification number (VIN) of this Kia Motor Optima is KNAGM4A78D_. New vehicle. The vehicle will not track in a straight line. The vehicle wanders (drifts) left or right. I constantly have to nudge the steering wheel slightly left or slightly right to keep the vehicle somewhere in the middle of the lane. This is a dangerous condition. I no longer take a mug of coffee with me as I drive to work. I have to keep my eyes directly on the road ahead, only glancing briefly in the rear view mirror or side mirrors to check traffic. It also does this at low speeds on residential streets. Help! I am taking it back to the dealer a second time on 11/16. However, I have noticed many complaints on the web for the same vehicle, model and problem. It would seem there is no fix! has the NHTSA contacted kia about this problem?. This problem occurred on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012.

The vehicle having this Issue was a 2007 Lexus Is. The VIN of the problem Is Is JTHBE26297_. As I just exited the highway and pulled into the parking lot of my work, the steering wheel suddenly froze. I was about to park in an open spot, so the speed of the car was very low. As I was reversing into the spot, the steering wheel jammed and would not turn. I tried shutting down and restarting many times but the wheel was stuck, and required enormous amount of power to turn ever so slightly. The car was towed to the Lexus dealer. They were also unable to turn, and upon their review, they said that there was a leak in timing cover, which accumulated over time and went into the harness of the ecu and burned the ecu, which in-turn jammed your steering. There was no physical leaks on the bottom, and the dealer also confirmed that but said it was an internal leak, you would not see it on the floor. The car Is still at the shop and only after replacing the ecu they will check for steering assembly. The explanation provided by them Is not very adequate and if it Is true then there seems to be a serious flaw in design that any unseen leak from timing cover could cause your steering to freeze unexpectedly, while your vehicle Is in motion. This power steering light on problem happened on Oct. 18, 2013.

The car is a 2006 Mazda Mazda3. Power steering seems to quit - power steering warning light comes on. Since we were on a freeway, it was some time before we could get off the road. Steering was available, but very stiff. We turned of the engine and got power steering back/warning light off. Since then the power steering will "fail" (get stiff) as we are driving down the road. What would happen, if we were on a mountain road on a steep curve? we do not find Mazda's little film on what to do if this problem to "fix" the problem. Mazda needs to recall cars with this problem!! I am told the repair would likely run $1,400 to fix, wow! not sure I will buy another Mazda, if this is not resloved. The vehicle was a 2006 Mazda Mazda3. Vehicle identification number (VIN) of the vehicle is JM1BK34306_. Over the past 2 weeks, my power steering goes out intermittently and the power steering indicator light on the dash turns on. The loss of power steering lasts for anywhere from 5 seconds to 5 minutes, and typically resolves when braking and/or turning and speed is reduced to below 20 mph. The power steering loss has occurred at a variety of speeds, ranging from 25 to 70 mph, and has led to a jerking of the wheel and a potentially very dangerous situation on the freeway. On average it occurs about once or twice per day, so roughly every 20-30 miles on average. I have seen other similar reports of this problem for 2006 Mazda3's, and a recall for the 2007-2009 models. Therefore I am hopeful that 2006 Mazda3s will be included in the recall as well to avoid potentially dangerous situations. I am the second owner of this car, and purchased it with about 42,000 miles. The failure date was Mar. 16, 2014.

Once restarted, the vehicle functions properly. When the failure occurs, the advance track abs light illuminates. She took the vehicle to the dealer, but they could not duplicate the failure. Ford sent an engineer to the dealer and he retro fitted something to the steering wheel to block light from affecting the sensors. The remedy has not corrected the failure. The failure has occurred five times and the vehicle has been taken to the dealer four times. The vehicle has not been repaired. The failure mileage was 8,000 and current mileage was 10,300. The vehicle involved was a 2012 Nissan Maxima. I was driving on rt41 near chicago in the middle lane at 65mph and tried to change the lane to get into left lane from middle lane, right then when I turned the steering slight left to change lane, it felt like the steering of my car got locked. My car was inches away from colliding into concrete barricade, I had to wrestle with the steering to avoid that crash and pulled the car on the shoulder. I might have got killed because of this. This is really a very serious issue. Dealership informed that the power steering pump failed. My car is at dealership since then and today is 2/1/14, I was informed that the pump is on back order until first week of March, so my car will sit at the dealership for almost two months. The car is a 2013 Subaru Impreza. The malfunction described in the following always occurs under the conditions described. This is a potentially life-threatening malfunction that in many cases would result in the total loss of steering control while the vehicle is in motion. 1. Car is parked, with the engine off. 2. Driver enters car, depresses clutch pedal, and releases parking brake. 3. Vehicle rolls (even slightly) before engine ignition is turned on and engine starts. 4. Engine starts and the steering malfunction light illuminates and the electric power steering servo powers on and actively locks the steering wheel in position, preventing the driver from turning the steering wheel. This condition continues to exist when the clutch is released and the vehicle is in motion under engine power. This condition lasts 4-10 seconds, and then the vehicle begins operating normally. In order to turn the wheel, the driver must overpower the power steering, something many drivers would be unable to do. This is not a case of "dry steer" (engine off steering) or attempting to steer without power steering. The vehicle can be steered (with increased steering effort, as expected) under "dry steer" (engine off) conditions, the first time this malfunction occurred, the vehicle was moving at approximately 10 mph before the driver (myself) noticed the inability to steer. I narrowly missed crashing into a curb/divider by performing a "panic stop" with the brakes. I was unable to steer to avoid the curb, I was forced to come to a rapid stop using the brakes. This issue happened on 06/01/2012.

I own a 2006 Suzuki Forenza and have had numerous problems with this car. Since purchasing new in 2006, I have had the gas gauge, gas tank, radio, center console, front door handles & catalytic converter replaced. The factory tires went bad within a year, and because it is an odd tire size cost over $400 to replace. Currently the check engine light is on stating there is a problem with the catalytic converter which was just replaced about 3 months ago. I left the car overnight at the dealer & got a rental car (which cost $75) and the dealer and Suzuki tech support can not figure out why the catalytic converter error continues to show up. The power steering light is also on & I was told that it requires a sensor - not covered by warranty - that will cost over $300. I have had a problem with the engine jerking and slipping gears on acceleration. It would also stick in neutral or not change gears and hesitate to the point of moving very slowly. I was told this was an oxygen sensor which cost me over $300 to replace. I have had this problem once since. The struts - front and back - also need to be replaced which is a $1200 repair because they are leaking. Currently both front door handles are broken causing me to have to open the windows to open the doors. I have had them replaced once before under recall, but now it will cost over $200 a piece to replace. I didn't even know there was a light to indicate that the daytime running lights were working until it just appeared one day. The daytime running lights indicator won't stay on - it comes on, then goes back off. I think Suzuki needs to make good on these cars because there are so many problems. This power steering light on problem happened on Wednesday, Mar. 1, 2006.
