The vehicle involved was a 2013 Chrysler town and country. I was driving down my street, going around 25 mph, and the 1st thing I noticed was that I had lost the power steering. The kids were watching a dvd, that stayed on along with the normal interior lights however when I applied pressure to the gas pedal to attempt to pull over the car wouldn't respond to that. I realized then that the engine had shut off while I was driving! thankfully I was able to drift to the side of the road. I parked, turned off the van and then restarted it. Everything came back on and was working again. The mechanic can't figure out what the problem is and Chrysler is claiming no one has ever reported this problem before. A simple google search proves them wrong. This lose power steering problem happened on Wednesday, April 16, 2014.

The car involved is a 2006 Chrysler town and country. While driving in the rain, lost power steering capability and could barely turn wheel to get out of harms way. . . . This has happened several times. . . Thought just a fluke. . . But consistency tells otherwise. . . Don't think I would buy a Chrysler product again. . . This problem occurred on Fri., Dec. 13, 2013.

The car was a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. Wife was driving around 40 mph when traction control light came on and she lost power steering and brakes. She was finally able to stop in the middle of the intersection, luckily there was no car coming. She then turned the van off and restarted and everything was fine. She said she is never driving it again because it is unsafe. Last year we had the tipm replaced after the seemingly common problem of horn honking, windshield wipers going and solvent spraying randomly several times. Not sure how Chrysler can get away with having all of these life endangering issues without having recalls and fixing them. But what I do know is we will never buy a Chrysler product again. The car is a 2009 Dodge Journey. The VIN of this vehicle was 3D4GG47B29_. Power steering hoses rupturing from cold weather. Second hose in less than 1 month to blow out while vehicle is parked and warming up. Many people online with same complaint, when it gets cold the Journey starts blowing the power steering hoses. Seems to have been a problem from the start, but the problem hasn't been fixed and newer models are still experiencing this problem. The mechanic feels this is due to the material being used is not the appropriate material, it is too hard and brittle. Once the hose blows out you lose the power steering which is dangerous and it starts to get smoke inside the vehicle as the power steering fluid is smoking in the engine. This problem occurred on 01/07/2014.

The vehicle having this issue was a 2013 Ford Escape. The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) is 1FMCU9J9XD_. While traveling at approximately 50 mph on may 21, 2014 I suddenly heard a chime and a message appeared on the driver information center alerting of a "steering assist fault". Our Ford is equipped with the automatic parking steering assist system. I then felt the steering lock up and dramatically reduce the ability for me to steer the vehicle from one lane to the other on the straight away that I was presently on. The sensation was that of trying to drive a vehicle that completely lost power steering and feedback. After approximately a quarter mile of evaluating the vehicle, I pulled over and restarted the car, thus regaining normal control without further incident, and proceeded to deliver the vehicle for evaluation. The car is currently at lindasy Ford in silver spring, MD now and will be evaluated 5/22/14. This is at least the third time I have seen this fault message, however it would appear when starting the vehicle but never eliminate steering ability. I believe this vehicle to be a lemon in the eyes of the law, I have previously requested a buy back from Ford based on dismal fuel performance and other unrelated matters. Ford has neglected to fully resolve those matters, and with this incident on hand, I am requesting any assistance to ensure that I own a safe vehicle, because my previous experience with Ford has been unacceptable. This lose power steering issue occurred Wednesday, May 21, 2014.

We bought our 2008 GMC Acadia in January 2008. The battery died in July 2008 while vacationing in canada leaving us stranded. After it went dead several more times the dealership replaced it. The air conditioning went out several times in 2010 and we had to pay to have the ac recharged twice since. In July 2013 we had to have the transmission replaced when it stopped shifting into gear. Our warranty had expired in January of that year. The dealership did get gm to pay half but it still cost us almost $2,000. 00. Now it is at the dealership again and we have to replace the entire steering column as it lost power steering at low speeds. We are having it repaired at an estimate of nearly $1,800. 00 more. This vehicle cost about $36,000. 00 in 2008. Since then we have paid thousands of dollars just to keep it on the road and safe. This is a lemon and I would like to see a recall for both the transmission and loss of steering at low speeds. I see that both of these are common problems with this vehicle. I would like to be reimbursed for our expenses. It was Tuesday, Jul. 30, 2013 when this lose power steering issue happened.

My 2012 Honda Cr-v (awd, ex trim) has, on 5 separate occasions, locked up the electric power steering (eps) system while driving in neighborhood streets (<25 mph) or parking lots. I am lucky this has not happened to me while driving on a city street or highway, but I fear it may happen at any moment. On today's occasion (the 5th out of 5, at 6372 miles), my car was sitting in bright sun all day, and when I drove it a few miles and parked in front of a store, I lost power steering right as I turned to park. The steering tended to harden up as I drove through the parking lot to find my spot. The eps indicator on the dash did not illuminate at all, even though my steering was lost. I had to wait 5 minutes before I was able to maneuver the vehicle into position. On page 355 of the owner's manual, a notice states that: "if you repeatedly turn the steering wheel at an extremely low speed, or hold the steering wheel on the full left or right position for a while, the system heats up. The system goes into a protective mode, and limits its performance. The steering wheel becomes harder and harder to operate. Once the system cools down, eps is restored. Repeated operation under these conditions can eventually damage the system. " what kind of steering is this? you tend to use your steering most when in parking lots or tight neighborhood streets. In conclusion, normal driving habits will "eventually damage the system. " I demand Honda to fully reimburse me for the remaining negative equity of the vehicle lease, and provide me a safe, paid-in-full rental vehicle (non-Honda please) to drive until my new Mini countryman arrives from europe in a few weeks. I find it appalling that a company known for "reliability" and "durability" would skimp on the most important aspect of driving: the steering. It was Mon., May. 20, 2013 when this lose power steering issue happened.

The car involved was a 2007 Honda Fit. While driving my car across a busy intersection, I was wanting to turn left and in doing so, the power steering went out of the car and I headed right into oncoming traffic. I was unable to re-attain power steering and had to get my car pushed into a parking lot. This is the third time I have lost power steering (first time while driving in a busy intersection). I no longer feel safe driving my car as it had the potential to be a very dangerous incident. I have read on multiple websites that this has been an issues for Honda Fits but there has still not been a recall issued. I know that I feel unsafe now in my own car, something I would never want anyone to feel. This needs to be issued as a recall to ensure that no injuries are sustained due to this occurring. I have taken the car to the dealership, however they are not showing any idenfication code that the incident occurred. Due to the fact that this has happened on multiple occasions and there is a service bulliten out, it is only right to issue a recall and ensure everyone's safety on the road. This lose power steering problem happened on 10/03/12.

The car was a 2010 Hyundai Elantra. My daughter was driving in a rain storm and lost her power steering. The eps (electronic power steering) light illuminated. She was lucky she didn't get into an accident. She pulled over to the shoulder, turned her car off, then started it again. The eps light went out and the power steering was again working. I performed an internet search and found numerous complaints concerning the Hyundai eps system. This is a serious safety hazard and a recall should be issued immediately to correct the problem. My beloved Jeep Commander suddenly shut off while driving at 40mph. With no prior problems or warning signs the engine completely stalled- instantly I lost both power steering & brakes. Needless to say I was terrified. After much confusion & hassle I was told to replace my key. (reason being the 'chip' inside was malfunctioning. ) I replaced the $270 key which solved nothing. To my surprise, many Commander owners experience this same problem with no help from Jeep. Not only do Jeep dealerships ignore the potential recall warning on the Commander, but they actually recommend expensive 'solutions' that do not even touch the known problem. It seems as though there are no solutions for this faulty system, given that no dealership can successfully stop the shutting off. There are way too many owners experiencing the same dangerous stall. I cannot in good conscience ignore the fact that this problem goes beyond inconvenience; this is potentially very dangerous and the Jeep Commander needs to be recalled. The failure date was Apr. 17, 2014.

The vehicle is a 2006 Kia Motor Sorento. I was merging onto a highway when all of a sudden I heard a loud thud and my battery light & e brake light came on and I lost power steering. I was able to drive the vehicle to a local mechanic who informed me that the harmonic balancer had fallen off due to the crankshaft bolt sheering off. Once it was fixed by an ase certified mechanic, approximately 8000 miles later I was driving to work and the car started shaking like I was driving on rumble strips. I took it back to a service garage and after replacing the harmonic balancer and crankbolt again they came to the conclusion that the crankshaft was bent. The garage suggested replacing the entire crankshaft and balancer and then having the engine rebalanced or a complete engine replacement both of which are greater than $3500 to repair on a vehicle that's worth about $5500. . It's been approximately $2000 that I've already spent to correct this problem and the problem still exists. It's at a local kia dealership now, where I purchased the vehicle and they told me that it's not fixable and they can only recommend to replace the engine which would cost $6,700 for a used engine with 71,000 miles on it. It seems that this same issue happens on these motors between 60k and 90k miles then from doing some research, it seems after repairs are done the same problem happens approximately 6k-10k miles later. After looking into it, it leads me to believe that the only cause of this problem would be manufacturer defects and faulty parts. This has caused me to be out of a vehicle since mid November of 2012. It's disturbing with how many other complaints I'm reading on this site about the same exact thing!. This lose power steering issue occurred Friday, November 23, 2012.

The car was a 2012 Mazda cx-9. The VIN of the car is JM3TB3CV4C_. I have a Mazda 2012 that spontaneously stalls while decelerating. It also stalls predictably on an incline. Mazda corporation has stated "the stalling on an incline is a characteristic of all cx-9 models" and are not willing to fix it. They have informed me that stalling while decelerating in my car has not been able to be recreated by their tech so they are doing nothing about it. I have been in two near miss accidents. The car involved is a 2000 Mercedes Benz M Class. The vehicle identification number (VIN) of the car was 4JGAB54E2Y_. A year ago I was turning a corner in my mercedes ml320 when the steering wheel "locked. " it had lost the power steering fluid and for me, the wheel was impossible to turn. I was told there was a problem with the clamp. It was under warrenty and repaired at simonson mercedes, 1626 wilshire blvd, santa monica , CA 90403. One month and one thousand miles later the same thing happened. This time I was told that mercedes had sent a modified clamp to correct a problem with the origional hose clamp. April 20, 2003, at 30,000 miles the power steering failed again. I had it towed into simonson on April 21, 2003 and have refused to pick it up even though it has been "repaired. " I told the manager that I felt this was a life threatening defect that they had not been able to fix twice in the past. I dismissed the pull I felt while driving my new Nissan Versa since Feb. 2012 as being new to driving on mountainous roads. . . . But after having a major scare this weekend where my steering went completely out I am not sure if it is not all connected. When driving I can not let my hands off the wheel at all with out it significantly moving towards the next lane/curb. Then this weekend when sitting in traffic (yes it was very hot outside) with ac on I traveled a few feet beyond the traffic light and went to make a right turn when my steering became so hard that it took all my strength to keep the car from colliding with signs/off road. It was like I lost power steering. . . I got it to an empty parking lot near by and turned the car off for about 1 min. The check engine light was on and oil light. I restarted the car and steering had returned. Called the dealer and they took me in right away and "looked at it" and said there were "no trouble codes stored" and "electric power steering motor may have got hot enough for the control module to shut it off to prevent damage". Does this mean I can't steer my car if it gets hot outside??????? I am a mother and don't feel safe traveling in this car!!!!! I do not feel that the dealership was concerned with what had happened. The car involved is a 2003 Saturn Ion. I was driving along the highway when my car began to accelerate and shift gears strangely. The check engine light came on and then a warning about the power steering. It did feel a little bit harder to drive. Took it to a mechanic who said something about the transmission had come up instead of power steering. Took it to another place who said it was a computer control module. Once checked, engine light turned off and car drove normally. Happened again in March, lost power steering for a few miles before it came back. Engine light came on, stayed on for a day, and then turned off. Searched online for other instances of this happening and found other Saturn Ion owners complaining of same thing, only it applied to 2004 and later. My 2003 is having the same issue as their's. The car involved was a 2010 Suzuki Sx4. I was driving down the road and I heard a thump. I then realized that the battery light was on, and I had lost power steering. The engine started heating up shortly there after. I feel that this was a major safety issue because the power steering went out. I'm very thankful I was close to home and not on a major highway, otherwise this may have resulted in a crash. The belt tensioner in this vehicle had previously been replaced as part of a recall. Upon consulting the mechanic, that was again the problem. A belt tension should last more than a couple of years. This vehicle is driven very lightly, mostly around town. It is my belief that the replacement belt tensioner was no less faulty than the one replaced in the original recall. Because my warranty had lapsed, I had to pay for the repair out of pocket, even though it is my belief that the replacement part was clearly defective. This issue happened on Feb. 16, 2014.

The vehicle involved is a 2011 BMW X5. Vehicle lost all power (mechanical and electrical) without warning. This occurred while cruising at highway speed, under normal conditions. The vehicle lost power steering and braking became significantly more difficult. After drifting safely to the highway shoulder the vehicle remained disabled and could not started. The car exhibited no signs that it would start again. Instrumentation did not display information and towing was necessary. Several days after delivery to the BMW service center, technicians advised they had attempted to repair the problem. The stated cause was vanos bolts shearing off into the engine. However, on the test drive the vehicle suffered another complete failure, leaving it disabled. 56 days later a remanufactured engine had replaced the original due to failed repair attempts. The vehicle was a 2007 BMW 335i. VIN of the vehicle was WBAVB73577_. My serpentine belt (drive belt) snapped and shattered causing my vehicle to lose power steering capabilities. This belt drives all the accesories( alternator, power steering, ac, etc). This is a known issue by BMW, there is a sib 11 09 08 that states the issue and how to go about checking it by the dealer. The issue is the design flaw in the power steering pully hitting the sub frame and causing damage to the belt and in turn the belt snapping. This can/will cause a fatality one day because of the loss of steering controls. The belt on my vehicle was replaced before on 12/20/12 for the same reason and it has only been 1. 5 years and the same problem. It was 04/14/2014 when this lose power steering issue occurred.

The car involved is a 2006 Buick Lucerne. Car died while driving it. Lost power steering and brakes. Had car towed to dealer. It was diagnosed as having a faulty ignition module. I was lucky I was not on a highway at high speed. Given the company recalls on ignition parts on other nameplates, it is likely that the Buicks are also seeing ignition problems and failures but gm has not issued a recall for this car platform. I hope that no one is seriously injured or killed before this defective part is recalled. I consider myself lucky. This problem occurred on Wed., May. 21, 2014.

The car involved was a 2013 Buick Lacrosse. The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) was 1G4GC5E34D_. Near the florida-georgia on north interstate 75 I stopped at a rest area. When I started the auto again,I found it difficult to back out of the parking lane and to straighten the cars wheels to exit the area. I realized then I lost power steering. Slowly and on the right lane I drove the auto to valdosta,GA . I stopped at a motel and called the local Buick dealer. The next day (April 2) I was able to bring the auto to the local Buick dealer. Fortunately, the dealer was just a few miles from my motel. I stayed overnight at a local motel. The dealer arranged for me to rent a auto. The next day, the mechanics at the dealership informed me that they would have to replace parts but did not know how long it would take to receive the parts and how long it would take to fix the auto. Thus ,they removed my luggage and books from my auto and placed them in my rental car. Then I proceeded to drive to my home in illinois. On April 27,my repaired Buick la crosse was delivered to my home in illinois. This lose power steering problem happened on Apr. 1, 2014.

The vehicle involved was a 2004 Cadillac Seville. My 2004 Seville loses all power steering, and I lose control of the vehicle do to the lack of being able to steer the vehicle. Now I have been experience problems with my service stability light coming on after these occurrences when driving in any wet conditions! , I could have been killed due to this defect on several occasions. I now refuse to drive my car in or after rain. Obviously, this causes frequent problems for me both personally and business wise. I have also find it really unfair do to paying 50,000+ for a vehicle with less then 90,000 miles on it to have such problems. The car has been and stays maintained regularly. This issue happened on Monday, December 10, 2012.
