The vehicle is a 1998 Dodge Ram Van. Vehicle: 1998 Dodge b1500 Ram Van
problem: at less than 40,000 miles I was told by a tire dealer that my upper ball joints were shot and that I should take the vehicle repair shop to have them replaced before the front end could be aligned. At 60,000 miles I finally decide to have it repaired. Not only was the ball joints bad, but one side had come loose in the upper control arm, and destroyed the threads and was floating free in the control arm. I consider this to be a serious saftey hazard. I am interested if this is a common complaint with this vehicle or not. By doing some research on the internet I see multiple complaint on other Dodge vehicles. Thank you for your attention. Joseph scheibenpflug. This problem occurred on Wed., Jul. 20, 2005.

The latest complaint I have is with the drivers side upper control arm. My son could have been killed when this broke. I have talked to several garages including the dealership and no one has ever replaced an upper control arm except on a vehicle that is very old and then very seldom. the consumer stated the problem was the upper suspension arms on the vehicle. Right after the vehicle was purchased, both upper control arms had to be replaced, before alignment problems could be addressed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for unrelated problems. However, the consumer was informed that windshield wipers, transmission fluid and new tires were needed. Shortly after the visit to the dealer, the consumer purchased new tires from another dealership. The dealer inspected the vehicle and discovered the left front upper suspension arm was hanging by a loose nut and several threads on the upper arm's bolt. The consumer noticed there was no safety device that would have prevented the retaining nut from coming loose. This front suspension upper arm issue occurred 03/01/2012.

The car was a 2007 Toyota Tacoma. The VIN of this Tacoma is 5TELU42N97_. On March 24th I drove to a neighboring town about 120 miles away in my new toyo Tacoma 4x4 2007. I did my shopping, and every time I exited the vehicle I would smell the odor of burnt rubber. I would then inspect my tires (exterior) and there did not appear to be any problems. I drove home that evening okay, but when I arrived at home, I again smelled the burnt rubber odor. The next day, I used the truck off road to get a bundle of firewood (under 15 pounds). But, on my way over I had a blow out on the front driver's side tire. We took off the tire and found that the tire had wear marks on the inside of the tire caused by protruding metal off of the a-frame. We changed the tire and put on the spare. I returned home, and became concerned. I took a look at the other passenger side tire and also noticed that there was also a protruding piece of metal also beginning to tear into the right tire. I called the dealership where I purchased my vehicle, and they advised me to get the truck into the shop to have their technicians take a look at the matter. I am a little concerned, being that I have no spare tire, and my nearest Toyota dealership is 120 miles away one way. But, all in all, I think the defect is in the a-frame, where a piece of metal was overlooked in being grinded down before complete assembly. This defect could have caused some major damage and injury, luckily, I usually drive under 60 mph. I hope more people that do purchase a 4x4 toyo Tacoma take a good look at their front suspension a-frame before purchase, so they themselves don't have a blow out. I plan on getting my truck to the toyo dealership as soon as possible. It was Sunday, March 25, 2007 when this front suspension upper arm issue happened.
