car   Fuel Hoses Lines/piping And Fittings problem of Chevrolet Silverado 3500

The car was a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 3500. First failure was the dual braking system I was hooked up to a trailer and started down the driveway (about 0. 4mile long) and stepped on the brake pedal which went to the floor boards. There was no stopping effort from the brakes. I used the manual control of the trailer brakes to stop the vehicle. Both brake lines under the cab area had rusted out and ruptured at the same time. Had I been on the road at speed this would have been a crash. The dealer who picked up the truck commented that this happens "sometimes". He repleced the lines with non-gm ones so they would last longer. This winter I was having trouble starting the truck in cold weather and noted that I needed to operate the manual fuel priming pump to get the truck started. (truck is equipped with the optional diesel engine. The dealer when working on this noted that the lines were very rusty and need to be replaced. My safety concern this time was the small amounts of fuel weeping out of the rusted areas under the hood near the exhaust. And onto the ground. It seems that there is a great amount of rust occurring on the brake and fuel lines. This worries me as the truck only has about 36,000 miles on it and I live in a state (vermont) that uses sand and not salt on the roads and travel only minimally in snow with the truck. When I was having the fuel lines replaced and while there the other two customers in line were also having rusted brake lines replaced. Seems like more than a coincidence. I have requested the rusted fuel lines from the dealer and still have them if you want to see them. This fuel hoses lines/piping and fittings problem happened on Jun. 20, 2012.

car   Fuel Hoses Lines/piping And Fittings problem of Chevrolet Monte Carlo

The vehicle involved is a 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Went out to start car. Turned on key, set radio. Then turned key to start engine with a resulting loud explosion from under hood. In hurry to get up hood and extinguish fire experienced burns on hands from lifting hood and a fuel line that was squirting fuel/flames. Fire extinguisher extinguished flames. Upper intake manifold is blow apart with multiple sensors destroyed. Thank god this happened at home with an extinguisher handy and not driving down the road with no time to slow down. It was January 31, 2014 when this fuel hoses lines/piping and fittings issue occurred.

car   Fuel Hoses Lines/piping And Fittings problem of Chrysler 300C

The car was a 2006 Chrysler 300c. The current issue with this model for me is the fuel. I just had a vapor canister installed that did not solve the issue but it did get rid of a few of the problems. When I first started having problems with my car shutting down after a fill up, I thought the gas had water in it but it's not the gas. No matter what station I fill up at, I have the same symptoms. The car will drive fine for about 3 car lengths, then it will hesitate, choke, jump, try to die, jerk forward and then finally stall and shut itself off. Then it will take 3 or more tries to get the car to restart and it may do the same things over again for another block or two. The bottom line is, in the first 3 blocks of driving this car after a fill up, I can expect just about anything and I know for sure it will die on me if I fill it up. If I only put in 3/4 of a tank of gas or less, I am safe but if I let the pump kick off on its own, I'm in trouble. The only thing the vapor canister did was stop it from jumping and jerking, all the other symptoms are still there. This fuel hoses lines/piping and fittings problem happened on 08/01/13.

car   Fuel Hoses Lines/piping And Fittings problem of Chrysler 300C

The car involved is a 2006 Chrysler 300c. Stopped on the way home to fill up my gas tank. When the nozzle shut off, I removed the nozzle. I heard a gurgling sound in the tank which was unusual. I began driving out of the gas station through the adjacent parking lot and the engine died within 150 feet of driving. I restarted the engine and upon it died again within 15 feet. Re-started a third time and it stalled out and would not stay running. Had the car towed to local repair shop and upon doing diagnostic tests found that the roll over valve in the fuel tank was bad which caused fuel to get into the evap vent hose which caused the engine to flood and stall out. Solution is to replace the tank which is on back order til Jan 30th (9 days from now). They are expecting in 130 tanks at the warehouse which is suggesting this issue is becoming more common. It was January 21, 2014 when this fuel hoses lines/piping and fittings issue occurred.

car   Fuel Hoses Lines/piping And Fittings problem of Dodge Charger

The car is a 2006 Dodge Charger. VIN of the vehicle was 2B3LA73WX6_. When gas tank is filled, car will stall a few blocks later. Dodge says the sensor in the gas tank is faulty and causes the system to suck gas backwards through the vapor recovery lines and deposit it into the engine, flooding the car. All power is lost to power steering, brakes, and drive train. If you are turning when this happens, it is very dangerous and will cause a crash. Total loss of control over the vehicle. Dealership and Dodge/Chrysler acknowledge the danger (I have the emails to prove it). They say it happens all the time and they will only help with fixing the problem if you (NHTSA) asks them to recall the cars. Note that the sensor inside the gas tank is the problem. The part can be replaced, but Dodge only sells the entire gas tank as an assembly, causing increased cost on those of us that experience this problem. We all asking you (the government) to help keep us and our families safe by requesting Dodge recall vehicles and replace this defective design. There is no way a simple vapor recovery sensor inside the gas tank should cause the gasoline to flow the wrong direction, resulting in a stall that produces complete loss of control over the vehicle. It is worse when performing turns (u-turns) or at turns. This is a danger to pedestrians, as the driver does not expect sudden loss of all power steering and brakes. The gas station's fuel pump cut off after accurately filling the tank and stopped when full. The tank is not over-full. It's a defective design (admitted by Dodge) that causes gasoline to be sucked up in the wrong direction, flooding the engine compartment with excess fuel. Please assist the taxpayers by keeping us safe and recalling the vehicles with this design to get the parts replaced with ones that will never fault out in the same manner. The failure date was 12/23/2013.

car   Fuel Hoses Lines/piping And Fittings problem of Dodge Nitro

The vehicle is a 2007 Dodge Nitro. Vehicle identification number (VIN) of the vehicle is 1D8GU28K17_. While attempting to fill fuel tank, the nozzle shut off as normal when tank was full, however gasoline shot out of the filler neck all over my pants and shoes. There was probably a pint to a half gallon of fuel that shot out of the tank. I have checked on line and determined this is a common defect with the 2007 Dodge Nitro. This now occurs each and every time I fill the fuel tank. Someone is bound to be seriously injured or killed over this situation, why has there not been a recall on this issue. It was Dec. 10, 2012 when this fuel hoses lines/piping and fittings issue happened.

car   Fuel Hoses Lines/piping And Fittings problem of Ford Edge

The vehicle having this issue was a 2012 Ford Edge. On a Sunday afternoon I noticed a fuel smell in my car as I drove it to the store. The smell of gas was especially strong when I had the heater on. Upon arriving home I opened the hood and noticed a mist coming from behind the engine near the placement of the steering wheel. I took it into the dealership where they identified it as a cracked fuel line damper. Fuel was leaking on to the engine and into the cabin. I searched online and noticed that the 2012 Edge had been recalled previously for the same issue. When I brought this up to the service team member, the dealership indicated that my Edge was manufactured after the dates covered by the recall. The repair cost $700 because I was a few thousand miles beyond the 36,000 warranty. The failure date was Sunday, December 15, 2013.

Purchased 05/2011, paid full no loan at time of purchase. Purchased add. Ext. Warranty which was 6months. From the dos til present date; I have paid, and was mislead in all the insurance covering major defects, owner(me) had came out of pocket paying for service to fix warranty parts. Now this is the current and serious issue. I am disabled, I have a disable child. My vehicle was reported under VIN to Ford corporate to notate for service to be check and worked on at local Ford dealer. Complained about multiple (4) issues. Dealership mislead me, and did not perform work. Only work they did was replace 1 recall 10/12. After recall service I (owner) recall manufac. Made claim, again and then went to dealer. I was turned away. . . And told to do normal maintenance before putting a service claim in. This is a problem. I am not ignorant to the anatomy of a vehicle. I am very literate on understanding vehicle operations as well as maintaining maintenance. I can say this because I believe I should be aware of every issue so I wont have a disabled vehicle. Vehicle mileage applied from the date recall replaced 5800 within the time til I made another claim in oct 2013. Took vehicle in, told to check everything. Did. Brought vehicle back and vehicle was in service dept for week which rolled over to Nov 1, 2013. Vehicle was dx and found to be the same thing I made a claim about. Vehicle has a defected recall part. Part was not replaced. And owner is now left with a defect recall part, plus more damage on other parts related to torque converter, fuel line, 3rd bench, front r-wheel hub. I have multiple health appts to maintain for me and my child's disability. My children need to get to school, and I missed legal appt dates from court. car   Fuel Hoses Lines/piping And Fittings problem of GMC Sierra 1500

The vehicle involved is a 2001 GMC Sierra 1500. Vehicle identification number (VIN) of the vehicle is 2GTEK19T71_. Two things started to happen 1. The truck when coming to a stop of a speed of less then 25 mph started to lose its brakes and feel spongy. This continued until I got it in the shop which was about two days. 2. The truck started to run very rough and the engine light was coming on at the same time as well. After I got it in the shop and they got it up on a lift they found that all of the brake lines and fuel lines were all most rusted through and starting to leak. They had to replace all of the brake lines, fuel lines and since they had the fuel tank down they replaced the fuel pump because they found rust and dirt in the old pump. The shop mechanic said the lines were ready to fail at any moment. The chevy dealer I bought the truck off of just four months early had just inspected it and had seen the rusted lines and even repaired a piece of one of the fuel lines but left the rest go to fail down the road, they gave me little to no help. This is a huge problem, dangerous as well as very expensive one and needs looked into. Is there any help I can get for this problem??. This fuel hoses lines/piping and fittings issue occurred Oct. 3, 2012.

car   Fuel Hoses Lines/piping And Fittings problem of Acura TL

The car involved is a 2004 Acura 3. 2tl. I started my car, backed out of my driveway, started to go down the road and smelled a strong whiff of gasoline. So I backed up and pulled back in my driveway to find gas pouring down the front of my gas tank, all over the exhaust system. In a few seconds of having the car running I had a 5 foot pool of gas under the car. If my wife had taken the car, she wouldn't have noticed and kept going. This could have been really bad. The car is a 2004 Acura Tl with about 50,000 miles on it, but I have the extended warranty. The car is currently at the dealer and they just called me and said that they found a fuel line has split and they ordered the part. They have not yet figured out what may have caused the fuel line to split. My wife can not smell and also is a smoker, so luckily I happened to take the car when this happened. The failure date was Aug. 20, 2007.

car   Fuel Hoses Lines/piping And Fittings problem of Honda Accord

The car is a 2007 Honda Accord. Per Honda manual recommendation for a tune-up @100,000 mile; on April, 2013 I went into nalley Honda for my 100k tune-up. Shortly after this service was performed, my car stared to pulsate. I return my car back to dealer and was advised I need a fuel flush. They stated this was not part of the tune-up, but should be done with a tune-up. I paid for a fuel flush. The problem still existed. I went back to the dealer and inquired if they had changes all six of my plugs and wires. They said yes. . . I asked why was I still having this issue after getting a tune-up. I was asked the grade of gas I use. I told the service tech 87, that is what the manual recommended. I was told to try 93 grade for about a month to see if that will filter and clean the lines. I did. . . However, the problem still occurs but not as bad. I call and scheduled an appointment for Saturday after thanksgiving. I'm now being told my transmission is going bad (torque converter). I said that is not possible. A 2007 vehicle with only 117,000 mile and my transmission is going out. While sitting in the customer waiting area, a gentlemen with the same identical vehicle as mine told me he had more mile on his vehicle than mines, but his transmission went out also and he had to have his rebuilt for around $2,000. 00. I said there is no way transmission should be going out on a 2007 model vehicle with only 117,000 miles. Honda need to investigate if this is a defect issue. The service manager said no, Honda does not have a recall on the problem. Someone please help!. This fuel hoses lines/piping and fittings problem happened on Saturday, April 27, 2013.

car   Fuel Hoses Lines/piping And Fittings problem of Hyundai Sonata

The vehicle is a 2002 Hyundai Sonata. The VIN of the problem Sonata is KMHWF25S32_. We had our vehicle warrantied for the rotten frame on our vehicle last year. The brake lines broke 3 times in the past 6 months after sections were already replaced. These vehicles need all the brake and fuel lines replaced immediately!!! this is not routine maintenance and should be recalled immediately!! the power steering line rotted out 5 years ago, this car was made out of really crappy metal. Dangerous vehicle. Everything on this vehicle is rotted out beyond what is normal, the wheels, the brake drums, everything on these vehicles rot to the point of swiss cheese. car   Fuel Hoses Lines/piping And Fittings problem of Hyundai Accent

The VIN of this vehicle was KMHCG45C82_. My 2002 Hyundai Accent "clicks off" repeatedly when attempting to refuel the vehicle. Gasoline pools in the chamber between the fuel door and the gas tank causing a serious hazard. Fuel smells are frequently observed within the car after fueling and for a period of days afterward. The "check engine" remains illuminated indicating a fuel line system. I have had the system checked by a full service automotive facility and they have replaced several parts with no success in remedying the problem. Have suggested possibly replacing the entire full line, gas tank, etc but have indicated this is likely a manufacturer defect that should be addressed as such. At the current time it is impossible to put more than a few ounces of gasoline into the car at any one time and failure to closely monitor the chamber while attempting to refuel can lead to gasoline overflow and spills. I have significant concerns as to the safety of fueling this car on a weekly basis as well as the risk of fire hazard should any type of rear-end collision occur with this vehicle. From my research this appears to be a fairly common occurrence with this model/year of Hyundai, including at low mileage points. Concerned that Hyundai has not addressed what appears to be a serious issue for safety. This issue happened on Aug. 1, 2012.

The car involved is a 2007 Lexus Gs350. Fuel feed line to passenger side fuel pump became disconnected while driving. Was stooped at the traffic light and start smelling gas, thought was coming from the front car. As light turned green start to move and engine stopped. Was towed to the dealer and all they can find is fuel feed line to the fuel pump was disconnected. They inspected o-rings and pipe retainer which was found ok. Needless to say lucky for us that there were no spark otherwise it could have ignited the car. Contacted Mercedes Benz atlanta on piedmont (all records on file with up keep of vehicle maintenance) to advise. First available appointment was Tuesday 8 am. I was told by my service advisor that in 7 years the fuel pump goes out and has to be replaced? really mercedes? this is a manufacture defect and the consumer should not be held accountable for something this major. So much for high end top of the line. This is certainly a defect and needs to be recalled immediately. I want my money back and mercedes need to send my check immediately. car   Fuel Hoses Lines/piping And Fittings problem of Mercedes Benz E55

The vehicle involved was a 2004 Mercedes Benz E55. After filling the car up there was a strong gas smell inside the cabin of the car. It was so strong that we had to roll the windows down to help the smell go away but it was still very strong. After driving home and parking the car (2 mile trip home) there was a small puddle of gas on the driveway floor about 2-3 hours after parking the car. I had the car towed to an independent repair facility and was told the there was gas coming from the top of the passenger side fuel pump and that it was a common problem. They replace the o-ring and a couple of fuel lines and said that I may need to have the entire fuel tank, pumps and 2 of the fuel lines replaced if it happens again. I called the dealership and was told they know this is an ongoing problem but there is no recall and I would be responsible out of pocket and the cost would be $2500-$3000. How is a fuel leak that is obviously a defect from mercedes and has affected 1000's of vehicles not a recall? I did a lot of research on this and have found many claims of this on mercedes forum's so this isn't an isolated incident. car   Fuel Hoses Lines/piping And Fittings problem of Mitsubishi Eclipse

The car was a 2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse. After checking out service engine codes p0456 and p0457 (evaporative emission control system leak detected) I found the fuel filler neck tube and all vent lines totally corroded through. The vehicle is a 2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse and this assembly is located in the rear right side wheel well. Driving area is the northeast and found sand and debris packed all around assembly where tubes make a 90 degree turn through a support/protective bracket. I repaired with a new fuel neck assembly (part no. Mr73836) purchased from a local dealership at a cost of $200 for parts only. No fuel had yet leaked out but would have in a short time if this part was not replaced. Dealer stated that this vehicle was not recalled for this problem but other Mitsubishi models around this same year had been recalled for this same condition. This problem occurred on 08/16/11.

car   Fuel Hoses Lines/piping And Fittings problem of Mitsubishi Galant

The car involved is a 2002 Mitsubishi Galant. On leaving work, I filled up the gas tank. I started to drive home and my gas gauge showed near empty after 15 miles. I stopped on the side of the highway and the police officer said to get off the highway since I had a gasoline leak. I though that it was in my gas tank so I filled up to drive home. It did not seam to leak when the engine was not running. The next day I drove it to the Mitsubishi dealer and a fire started in the engine compartment. I pulled over and turned off the engine. I did not want to raise the hood because the oxogen would cause a fire to envolve the entire car. I keep the hood down for about 30 minutes until there was no smoldering. I then called a tow truck to take the car to my dealer. My 2002 Mitsubishi Galant v6 ctz was checked out by the delor an he found that the plastic protector that covers the gas hose in the engine compartment was chewed up, he said, by a squarrel causing the gasoline to flow onto the top of the hot engine. He replaced part of the plastic protector. This problem can be repeated since this season has cold weather and animals hide in the engine compartment for heat. Luckaly there were no injuries and a major car fire was averted. This fuel hoses lines/piping and fittings problem happened on Wednesday, December 1, 2004.

car   Fuel Hoses Lines/piping And Fittings problem of Nissan Frontier

The vehicle is a 2005 Nissan Frontier. The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) is 1N6AD07U85_. Passing other vehicle on I-45 towards downtown at approximately 70 mph the engine experienced intermittent stalling. I was in danger to crash others with problems to get our of the high speed lines. At that moment the engine totally stalled ,. Finally I was able to reach the extreme right line and pull out waiting for a complete stop. I tried to restart the engine but no help. I did not believe it but wanted be sure that no lack of fuel was the origin because I already had the problem with fuel sending unit problem which do not work properly to accurately show how much fuel is on the fuel tank. I got some extra fuel. We returned and poured the 1 gallon can , then I tried to star the engine. It cranked but no starting. I called my insurance requesting towing service . I tried two more times and after that the engine started roughly and hesitating. After 2 minutes and stabilized I decided to continue. I called my insurance company to cancel the towing service . Decided to continue on I-45 but on the extreme right hand side line. I arrived home with no other issues and after parking on my driveway, shut down the engine, then I tried to restart it but nothing . Only cranking good but no starting at all. Finally after some like 10 seconds of cranking, the engine hesitated but started. I took it to autozone , they scanned it and gave me the codes p043 for the failed fuel sendin unit ( fuel level sensor ) and the code p0335 which is problem with the circuit or signal or sensor crankshaft. I made search to find it and today, Sunday 29, after several hours, finally removed and replaced it. After this the truck starts very good as usually before the stalling experiences. Cost was some like 23 dollar but the risk in what I was and exposing others has no price. Is necessary to have a crash or fatal results for you to consider this a recall to protect others?. It was Fri., Dec. 27, 2013 when this fuel hoses lines/piping and fittings issue happened.

car   Fuel Hoses Lines/piping And Fittings problem of Saturn VUE

The vehicle is a 2007 Saturn Vue. The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) is 5GZCZ53477_. While parked noticed a strong smell of gasoline coming from the rear of the vehicle. Took vehicle to our mechanic who found that the secondary fuel pump had cracks along the top plastic connections where the fuel lines attach, after further examination our mechanic stated that fuel had been spraying from this defect and we were lucky not to have had a fire, the fuel pump connections being plastic and in such close proximity to the underside of the vehicle it is able to get damaged easily if you hit a hard bump in the road and the tank compresses agaist the frame. After paying $850. 00 for parts and labor to have the fuel pump replaced I found out that similar gm vehicles have been recalled for the same type of defect but the Saturn Vue has not, will it require a fire or death before the Saturn is added to the recall list. This issue happened on Sat., Jul. 27, 2013.

car   Fuel Hoses Lines/piping And Fittings problem of Saturn VUE

The vehicle having this issue was a 2007 Saturn Vue. My truck only had 60,000 miles on it. While driving home I began to noticed some smoke coming from the hood of the truck. Being only a block away from the house I proceeded to the stop sign. I was going to park and check it out thinking that it was something minor. Just as I was about to turn the corner the unthinkable happened. While at the stop sign the smoke quickly ignited into flames under the hood of the truck. I quickly pulled over in front of my house. Turned off truck, jumped out and ran to the side yard for the hose. I yelled out for my wife call the fire department. She called immediately and I tried to control the fire until the police and fire truck arrived. I was afraid that it would explode and damage other cars around it. The fire spread under the hood of the truck, under the car and quickly into the interior though the dashboard. There was no warning of a problem with the vehicle. My wife is pregnant and we had just driven to her doctors appointment earlier that day in the truck and it drove well. There was no indicator light on to warn me of any problem with the engine, fuel or any other vehicle hazards. The car has not been in any accidents and has been maintained well. I did not receive any mail or email notification about recalls that disclosed a problem with this vehicle. The next day I retraced my path home and saw a trail of fluid in the street that lead to the spot that the car finally ended up in. So some kind of leak and engine failure took place that caused this awful fire. I am just so glad that I made it out alive and that it didn't happen to her while she was driving because she usually drives this vehicle. I need to know what recourse I have now to deal with this matter. The failure date was Monday, October 14, 2013.

car   Fuel Hoses Lines/piping And Fittings problem of Subaru Impreza Wrx

The vehicle involved is a 2003 Subaru wrx. On the morning of Feb 3, 2014 I started my car and it smelled very strongly of raw gas. I turned off the car and had it towed to my local repair shop. The tow cost $84. 70. I found out later that morning that Subaru issued a recall beginning December 31, 2009 for 2002 and 2003 Subaru wrxs where the fuel line leaks in extreme cold. Unfortunately, the recall included only 16 states, and offered an extended warranty to the other 34 states not named in the recall (I reside in one of the 34 for the "extended warranty"). I promptly phoned Subaru of America and my local dealership, webster groves Subaru about the issue. The service department employee, [xxx], advised me to drive my vehicle over to have it checked out. Considering this is talking about raw gas and at least one fire has been reported in relation to the recall, I do not agree with this suggestion. Both Subaru of America and the dealership affirmed that the car would have to be taken to a dealership to see if it might be considered for the recall. After directly telling [xxx] I will not drive the vehicle since it is dangerous (the recall even states that it is dangerous!), she agreed to call her district manager then return my call. This is not the whole of my concern. We have had colder weather all over the united states this year and I am very concerned about this issue. I was not notified of the extended warranty or the issue by Subaru, and I gather other individuals were not as well and their safety could be at risk. While it would be ideal for Subaru to pay for the necessary repairs to my vehicle, I ultimately hope they will notify all 2002 and 2003 Subaru wrx owners of this potential hazard for the safety of everyone! this is not just a small optional recall, but one that could cause serious harm to drivers, their passengers and fellow drivers. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6). This fuel hoses lines/piping and fittings issue occurred Monday, Feb. 3, 2014.

car   Fuel Hoses Lines/piping And Fittings problem of Subaru Forester

The vehicle involved is a 2004 Subaru Forester. Upon starting car in cold weather (approx. 25 degrees f or colder), there is a strong fuel smell. Cannot turn heat on as fuel smell fills cabin and makes passengers nauseous. Headaches have also occurred. When vehicle is parked in garage after driving in cold weather, fumes accumulate in garbage and leak into house as well. Apparently fuel lines shrink in cold and leak fuel directly onto engine. This is both health and fire hazard. The failure date was Dec. 10, 2013.

Complaint no. 1 the fuel line of my 2004 Suzuki Verona became disconnected, causing me to lose power while I was driving and causing fuel to spill on the roadway. The problem was allegedly fixed by franklin square Suzuki. However, a few months later, the fuel line again became disconnected causing me to lose power while driving and causing fuel to be spilled on the roadway. The problem was fixed by malmstrom Suzuki. Complaint no. 2. The brake pedal switch has become inoperable six or seven times. When the switch becomes inoperable, the brake lights are not activated when I depress the brake pedal. In addition, the transmission lever cannot be released from park unless I use the keyhole override. The problem has been repaired each time (occasionally after a few visits), but nevertheless, has occurred way too many times, even after Suzuki supposedly came up with a fix fro the problem by redesigning the brake pedal switch. The vehicle was a 1995 Toyota Tacoma. I noticed when I was filling up with gas that I was leaking gas where the filler tube had rusted away from the tank as well as the return fuel line. Then I noticed that my frame is cracked in front of the rear leaf springs, on both sides of the truck. After removing the fuel tank I realized that the entire rear frame is completely rusted away. car   Fuel Hoses Lines/piping And Fittings problem of Audi S6

The VIN of this S6 is WAUXU64B02_. On 10 Aug 2010 my 2002 Audi S6 avant fuel tank rollover valve hose nipple began leaking fuel vapors and liquid. The leak which is caused by the same material failure noted in NHTSA campaign # 08v157000 and is a serious safety risk because of fuel and fuel vapor exposure to hot exhaust and other possible ignition sources. In this case the plastic hose nipple cracked without any type of impact, damage or the presence of harsh conditions. The valve is located on the driver's side of the tank a few inches from the fuel sender access hole under the rear seat. The p/n for the entire fuel tank for the a6 and allroads affected by 08v157000 is [xxx] bl. The p/n for the entire fuel tank in the S6 and a6s w/ 4. 2 v8s yet recalled* is [xxx]. The design of the tanks is nearly identical, but the 075 bl is three gallons smaller. While the fuel tank p/ns are different the plastic rollover valve which is bonded to the fuel tank assembly is common to both p/ns and is unavailable as a replaceable component. Although the fuel line attached to the valve is of a different material, similar forces act upon the hose nipple leading to the cracking on the 4. 2s larger yet otherwise similar tank. The defective fuel tank on my vehicle is still installed and the car is not drivable due to the serious safety hazard. An inspection through the fuel sender access panel under the rear seat revealed that the plastic rollover valve was the source of the fuel leak streaming down the tank beside the exhaust and pooling below car. Note: I personally know of at least one other instance where a 2002 a6 w/ 4. 2 v8 began leaking fuel from the same rollover valve hose nipple and these vehicles equipped with the 4. 2 have not yet been identified by a NHTSA campaign or manufacturer recall.
