Tank Mounting problem is a common vehicle problem that happens to most car brands and models. The following is a sample list of Tank Mounting problems reported in most popular vehicles.
The vehicle was a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu. I have several complaints about this car that I believe to be manufacturer defects. The most serious issue I found today (4/19/2014) when I smelled gas outside of my car. Upon looking underneath my car I found my gas tank leaking onto my exhaust pipe. I consider this to be a recall issue because there is absolutely no damage to the undercarriage of my car. One of the other serious issues I have found with my car include a brake light issue. My car was occasionally showing a "service traction/ esc" error code, which could not be explained by any mechanic or even a chevy dealership themselves. It wasn't until a friend following me pointed out that my brake lights didn't seem to be working right, did I realize I was having an issue. The brake lights do the exact opposite of what they should, but only on the occasions said error code is showing. I looked into the issue online and found this to be a common problem. Chevy has not been able to give me a solution to this problem. The third major safety issue I'd like to point out, I know from experience is not exclusive to my car. When I sit in the passenger seat of my Malibu, among every Malibu I have ever been, the passenger side airbag does not turn on. I am 26 and weigh 94lbs, so I don't know if my size is the reason I do not engage the airbag!? the final defect I had to deal with involved my driver side rim. I had a tiny little hair line crack on the inside of my rim, causing me to loose a lot of air in my tire. I consider this a manufacturer defect because my rim was not damaged in any other way shape or form. I had a hard time obtaining a new rim, because (according to everyone I called) the rim was in high demand. Please look into these issues and consider adding them to gm's current recall list. Thank you for reviewing my concerns. . . Updated 04-23-14. The failure date was April 19, 2014.

The car was a 2002 Chevrolet Venture. I purchased a used 2002 chevy Venture with only 84,000 and the first thing I did was fill it with gas for the next day of school drop offs and pick ups . I got home parked it and the next day a small puddle of gas was under drivers side sliding door. I looked on line and found a recall so I called the chevy dealer and they said my VIN # was not one that was covered. So now we have our new van sitting in our drive way with no money to fix it till next week. I think gm really needs to step up and fix their problem. . . I fond several people in the same boat. And still after they bought a new tank a week or two later the same thing occurred. . So now what. . . Who is keeping the automotive companies accountable. . Does some small child have to be injured or god forbid loose their life. . . Some one needs to do something. . . . This problem occurred on 12/19/13.

The vehicle is a 2008 Chrysler Aspen. I was refilling the gas tank at a gas station. Immediately after the gas hose "clicked off" (when the tank was full), a very large amount of gas gushed out of the fuel filler neck past the hose nozzle, back-flowing from the fuel tank. I was standing in front of the fuel filler opening, holding the hose nozzle handle, and was splashed with gas. In my estimation the amount of gasoline spilled directly on me was at least one-half of a gallon. The front of my pants were entirely soaked, my gloves and the lower third of my coat were also splashed. I changed my clothes as soon as practical, fortunately, I was not injured (though having the skin of my legs and right hand temporarily soaked with gasoline, it's hard to be certain). I called my local Chrysler dealer and learned that there was a TSB issued for this defect (number 14-001-12). In my opinion the decision to allow this issue to be addressed with a TSB rather than a safety recall was a profound error in judgment. Updated 02/27/lj. It was Feb. 13, 2014 when this tank mounting issue occurred.

Our Chrysler 300c had begun to stall out while driving with more than 3/4 tank of gas. We began to limit the amount of gas to never fill more than 3/4 tank. This lasted for approximately 6 months. In Dec, 2013 the vehicle began to stall at other times. I had between 1/4 to 1/2 in the tank when we were driving at approx 45mph when the vehicle began to stall then restart at first. Then it stalled entirely several times that evening as we tried to make it home. I had my 2 daughters and 2 granddaughters with me at the time. The next morning I took the vehicle to local dlr, lee Chrysler, were I purchased the vehicle. The vehicle stalled on me 3 times while I was trying to make it the 3 miles. The dealer had the car until 12-16-2013 when they advised that the proportional valve/purge vale needed replaced and that all of the updates to the system needed to be made. The total of this attempt to repair was $379. 45. The car immediately began to stall again so I returned it. They kept the car for approximately two weeks with their computer hooked up to it then advised that the pcm needed replaced this repair cost a total of $1,018. 61. The car was on empty so he offered to stop for gas. He filled the tank up then pulled out to 5 lanes of traffic and stalled. The vehicle would not restart for several attempts. I called the dealer and they wrecker after the vehicle. They had the car for one night and called us to pick up and run the gas out to 1/4tank. We were told it would not stall again because they had disconnected the emissions system. While I was driving the car on a very busy 7 lane hwy with my daughter and 3 month old granddaughter the car came to a dead stop in 40mph traffic. I was terrified but was able to get the vehicle to the center lane. They have now called and advised another sensor must be replaced. Someone is going to get injured or killed in this car. The failure date was Friday, December 13, 2013.

The vehicle involved is a 2006 Dodge Charger. After filling up the gas tank, within minutes I was turning left in an intersection when the engine stopped and the steering became very difficult and an accident was barely avoided. This was extremely dangerous because of oncoming traffic. In fact I was almost struck by two vehicles, one coming at me and the other behind me. I restarted the car, drove through the intersection for about 5-10 seconds and the car stopped again, same steering difficulties. Started the car a third time and it moved forward with no more stops. This has happened at least 20 more time in the past 3 years. Additionally, within the past 6 months, it has been very difficult to put fuel into the tank. It would take about 20 minutes because the nozzle would shut off. I could only put in very small amounts each squeeze of the handle. I find this not only annoying but also question the design of the whole fuel receiving and storage system of this vehicle. I have asked my local Dodge dealership about the problems and was advised that a new gas tank would have to be installed for approximately $1,200! a new gas tank? that would confirm in my mind that these problems are caused absolutely by a design flaw and should be recalled and repaired ASAP before there are fatalities linked to this flaw. This tank mounting issue occurred 02/03/2011.

The vehicle having this issue was a 2006 Dodge Charger. Every time the vehicle gas tank is filled, the engine stalls shortly after driving away. It requires several cranks of the engine to get started again. After the engine is restarted, driving /idle is rough for some amount of time before returning to normal. This happens all the time. This is very dangerous as the car stalls on me in traffic and merging on to the freeway after filling up at any gas station. This tank mounting problem happened on Wednesday, January 29, 2014.

The vehicle is a 2013 Ford F-150. The VIN of the problem F-150 is 1FTFW1ET3D_. Vehicle will not start when parked on a decline of approximately 8% and fuel level below 1/4 of tank or less than 100 miles on fuel warning indicator. Low fuel warning light comes on and vehicle will not start until on level ground. I am not comfortable traveling off-road or in mountains if fuel level is below 1/4 tank as this issue may cause vehicle to stall resulting in an accident or being stranded. This issue happened on Saturday, March 30, 2013.

The vehicle involved was a 2006 GMC Envoy xl. Noticed that the fuel gauge for the past week has been acting very strange. I had a half tank of gas and drive
very little daily (maybe 10 miles) and in 3 days it went from 1/2 tank to empty. I actually thought my gas was leaking out, but no gas spots or leaks. Now, it was on empty, light came on, and started to bing, and the engine light is on also. I filled the car up and fuel light is still on and so is the engine light. Indicating a problem at the fuel gage. I love this car, I have never loved a car more. . . But, now reading all the huge number of people having the same problems. . . And the cost to have it fixed is wayyyyyyyyy more than I can pay or afford. I have been trying to figure out how I am going to pay the first half of my re taxes and my home owners insurance, I used to work for years with auto dealers and with this amount of complaints, the manufacture normally does a recall and fixes this problem. My concern is, if I keep driving it without getting it fixed will I create more problems and the bigger problem is how do I know when I am on empty since it is now always on empty??????. It was Apr. 26, 2012 when this tank mounting issue happened.

The car was a 2003 Acura 3. 2tl. I started the Acura 3. 2tl type s at 6:45am, the Acura had not been started or driven the previous 14 hours. Engaged transmission in reverse, the gear locked up and rapidly accelerated backward and at the same time a fire started in the engine compartment, I managed to stop the Acura after 30 feet where I was â½
on and â½ off my parking area at my house. By the time I had stopped the car flames, smoke & fumes were filling the passenger compartment, I could not get the drivers side door opened, my neighbor noticing the large amount of smoke coming from under the hood rushed to my aid for he could see that I was in the car and I was pushing on the door with my feet in an effiort to escape the burning Acura. I was overcome from the fumes and smoke when he pulled me out of the now the rapidly burning Acura, the flames having advanced to the front seat. He pulled me out with my heavy jacket on fire and the bottom â½ of my pants aflame. He managed to get my jacket off and the flames out on my pants and we managed to get away from the burning Acura then in thirty to fourty seconds the fire had progressed to the rear of the Acura and the gas tank exploded and the whole car was a fireball. I suffered 2nd & 3rd degree burns on my legs. Appletree Acura, fletcher, nc had performed recall (campaign id #: 04v176000) on December 8th, 2004 at 42,000 miles in which they did not replace transmission but performed a revision to the oil cooler return line. The Acura was a total loss. It was Friday, January 28, 2005 when this tank mounting issue occurred.

The vehicle is a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe. As of late, the fuel gauge has been acting very erratically. The low fuel light is lit even when the fuel tank is full. As I'm driving, the amount of fuel on the fuel gauge fluctuates from empty to 3/4 or from full down to empty. Seeing that there are several complaints about the same thing, Hyundai should issue a recall - obviously this is a defect with the fuel sensor. Overall, this vehicle has been a really good vehicle, but this fuel gauge thing is starting to drive my crazy. I'm afraid one day I'll run out of gas in the middle of nowhere because the fuel gauge is giving me a false reading!. This tank mounting issue occurred Jan. 20, 2014.

The car was a 2004 Infiniti M45. While driving vehicle the fuel gauge and fuel remaining computer showed a significant amount of fuel left, almost half a tank. After a couple of minutes of driving the car sputtered and stalled. I pulled over and tried cranking the motor. After several failed attempts I noticed that the fuel gauge was now settled on empty. Checked the computer and it showed 0 miles till empty. Luckily my wife was able to bring me the gas for the lawnmower. This has happened several times since this intitial incident. A couple times with just my wife and children in the car. Fortunately my wifes commute involves streets and avenues and no freeways or highways. I've communicated my issues on forums and blogs, tunrs out this is a common problem, and so far nothing has been done by Infiniti to address this. The fix comes at a ridiculous price, dealer wants to change out gauge cluster, upwards of $1,000. I've been using the keep it full method, since I like the car, of course I shouldn't have to be doing this. I decided to file this report after reading that the NHTSA was looking into the issue. Thank you. This tank mounting issue occurred September 22, 2011.

The vehicle involved was a 2006 Jeep Wrangler. The VIN of this vehicle is 1J4FA44S86_. While filling up the gas tank, my Jeep will frequently spit the fuel back at me when it approaches being full. This almost always results in a significant amount of fuel left on the ground and inside the gas cap area. The gas will also spray all over the vehicle's operator and their clothing. This is definitely a potential fire hazard. A quick search on Jeepforum. Com reveals that this is a well-known issue among Jeep owners. Why has nothing happened? can't you enforce this recall? I contacted Jeep last month and they said they were still in the "early planning phases", which is a completely unacceptable answer considering the amount of time they have known about this problem! please enforce this, I am scared to drive my 3 children around in our Jeep until this is fixed!. The car involved is a 2006 Kia Motor Spectra. Vehicle identification number (VIN) of the vehicle is KNFAE12196_. One of the vehicles fuel tank mounting straps has rusted into and dragging the pavement. This would cause a possible accident, fire and or explosion if tank had hit the pavement and rubbed hole in the tank. The vehicle has no other rust on undercarriage. Said vehicle has 92,893 miles on it and is a 2006 model year. I believe straps are made of poor quality metal as there are no other rust issues with said vehicle! I think that this a safety hazard and there should be a recall for this problem. I called a kia dealer and he told me that there was a recall on some kia's in the north for the same problem but said there was no recall for my vehicle. If they knew of the problem they should have recalled all of them!. This tank mounting issue occurred Wed., Oct. 23, 2013.

The car was a 2005 Land Rover Lr3. Fuel leak while driving. I was driving through a mountain pass (during extreme fire danger btw) with the windows open. I smell gas. . . I pull over when I finally can about 2 miles later. I see gas pouring out the right rear of the car, on top of the hot exhaust pipe. . . Causing the gas to vaporize and smoke. I opened the fuel door and removed the fuel cap. Sounds like a liquid was violently boiling came from the filler pipe. A passing motorcyclist who was behind me stopped to let me know he thought I was also leaking gas. The problem continued as I tried to drive another leg of 3 miles or so. Finally I stopped the car for about 30 minutes. When I restarted the car, the problem seemed to go away. Major safety issue here. . . To me it seems like there was some pump at work, pumping gas from the tank out to the overfill hole of the filler pipe. . . . I have no other explanation for what was happening. Apparently I am not the only one with this problem. . . Others have talked about it on lore owner forums. The failure date was 08/13/05.

The car involved was a 2005 Land Rover Lr3. 1). Disconnected plug to generator which resulted in electric failure in navigation
system and stereo - fixed. 2). Vehicle continues to veer to the right while driving, however after each complaint and servicing to Land Rover we are told there is no alignment problem when they drive the car. 3). Repeat of the same problem, approximately three weeks later - dealer stated there was a recall on the stereo/navigation system, which is what initially caused the problem - fixed
3). 9-14-2005 vehicle stalled while driving downhill in heavy traffic in a canyon, leaving me with no brakes or power steering, almost veering off the mountain. Started engine again and it stalled again only 30 feet further - called Land Rover and was informed there is a recall that is supposed to start October 14 - it is a fuel ignition problem - very dangerous - and needs a new fuel tank. Recall # 05v37600. This issue happened on Sep. 14, 2005.

The vehicle having this issue was a 2007 Lexus Gs350. VIN of the vehicle was JTHBE96S47_. 1. 2007 Gs350 used for normal operation (apprx. 34,000-miles; serviced for 30,000-miles at Lexus dealership 2 months prior). Immediately after exiting the freeway, the car stalled. Smoke was coming out from front of car. Upon further inspection, fuel was spilling down onto the ground. Car was towed to Lexus dealership. 2. The fuel hose connector somehow came "loose", thereby disconnecting the fuel hose connecting the engine and gasoline tank (connector & hose located visibly on left side of engine compartment), allowing gasoline to freely flow out. Any electrical spark or accident could have caused severe fire damage and loss of life during this time. This warrants further question as to how durable the connector would be in the event of an accident. 3. Lexus dealership found no defect with the hose and connector, other than the fact that it became disconnected. Without any investigation into the matter, they have categorized this as a singular incident. They replaced the parts to "bring peace to our minds", but maintain that the parts are functioning correctly. Asked as to how the fuel hose could become disconnected when there is no apparent defect to the parts, Lexus provided the answer, "we don't know", and further adding "there is no issue since we replaced the parts". Logical course of action would be to immediately investigate whether there is a design flaw in the system, but this does not appear to be the case with Lexus. This tank mounting problem happened on 12/16/10.

The vehicle is a 2004 Mazda RX-8. The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) is JM1FE17N14_. The 2004 Rx8 has internal seals fail prematurely. This causes the engine to "blow" by a loss of compression in one of the two rotor chambers. The problem being the car with still run with half power. I continued to drive to find help off the highway. The rotor that is not working is dumping gas into the catalytic converter. By the time I parked, I could smell burning fiber and plastic and the exhaust shot out several large chunks of red hot ceramic material. The catalytic converter was bright orange and the entire underside of my car is melted. Looking on internet under "2004 RX 8 engine failure" I have seen several other stories with similar results but worse. Is it possible that the fuel tank could explode with such heat so near if you continued to drive. This happens anywhere from 12,000 miles to 100,000 miles and beyond. Mazda knows of the engine defect and has extended the warranty on the motor as of may 2008. My car is at hancock Mazda in dallas. They said damage amounted to $9,500. 00 from heat. The vehicle involved was a 2004 Mercedes Benz E320. While driving I started smelling gas, especially when I would have just filled the tank. This smell went on for years, it got odor got stronger and stronger so finally I went and got it diagnosed and my mechanic said that I need replace my fuel pump and showed me the gasoline under the rear seat (rear driver's side) the amount of gas was so great that I called and asked my rep at mercedes if there was indeed a recall on the part and I also told him that my mechanic said that there should have been a recall on it , and still he said no. So I replaced the part on my own. Now I am smelling the fumes again, I take it that it is coming from the other side. I have to ride with my windows down and/or sunroof open to keep from getting the head-aches again. This have been ongoing for years now . I purchased the car in Jan. 2008. Crash was involved with this problem. My 17 year old son was driving his 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse gl when he ran off the side of the road. He over corrected which resulted in loss of control of the car. The car flipped several times and hit an electric pole before coming to rest. The car then burst into flames. My son and his passengers miraculously were able to get out of the car before the car was reported to have exploded and become completely engulfed in flames. I have since been able to determine that Mitsubishi had a recall on certain models due to concerns with a defective part on the fuel tank. We purchased the car 3 months ago from a dealer and the car has a warranty. When I contacted Mitsubishi to determine if the recall work had be recorded onto his car. I was told the car was not one of the cars with a recall. I am concerned that the car did not have a recall like other 2007 models yet the car burst into flames as a result of the crash. summary:
Mitsubishi is recalling 45,988 my 2005-2007 endeavor, galant, Eclipse coupe, and my 2007 Eclipse spyder vehicles. The bracket that is the attachment point for the left rear fuel tank mounting strap may have been improperly formed during a metal stamping process. The process may have caused the metal to have a split in the area where the bolt that holds one of the two fuel tank straps to the underside of the vehicle is located. In the event the fuel tank is full and the vehicle is subject to a severe collision, the bracket may break and allow the fuel tank to drop down, possibly causing a fuel leak. Consequence:
fuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source could result in a fire. Remedy:
dealers will inspect to see if the left rear fuel tank strap mounting bracket has splitting beyond a specific limit. Vehicles with moderate to severe splitting will be repaired using a reinforcement cap, a special structural adhesive. This tank mounting problem happened on 10/04/2010.

The car involved is a 2013 Nissan Sentra. I purchased the vehicle in April. Two months later I realized that when in drive when I set my foot on the brake I would hear a grinding noise in the back of the car. When I would put it in reverse the noise would not occur. It was always when I would hit the breaks until the car came to a complete stop. It would not make the noise when I hit the breaks suddenly. When I called Nissan and brought it in for them I was told that it was a fluid problem. After 2 weeks the noise began again, now it has stopped and goes on and off. Also I have noticed that the indicator for the passenger air bag will be off at times when there is an adult sitting in the seat. This also happens on and off. I have had it though, where the indicator has come on saying the air bag is off for 3 days in a row, having someone sitting in it. The third problem is that the windshield wiper fluid does not spray correctly. It pools at the bottom of the windshield and so it does not clean it correctly. Finally the last problem is that I have noticed when I fill up the gas tank the amount of miles I get are different every time. I have a particular routine everyday and every weekend. At times it seems I have more gas than when I have filled it up before. When I have used the eco button at times, it seems that once in a while it will work the way it is supposed too. Most of the time it seems that the car just guzzles gas more than usual. The failure date was Monday, Jun. 17, 2013.

The vehicle involved is a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder. The VIN of this Pathfinder is 5N1AR18U26_. I had transmission problems, the transmission started vibrating and then would not move, I took to local transmission shop, they advised there was a problem in the radiator causing damage to transmission, I took to Nissan dealer they advised that Nissan had extended the warranty to 80,000 miles due to the radiator, however Nissan had not sent any information regarding a problem are extending the warranty. If I had known there was a problem with radiator, I would have had it checked prior to the 80,000 miles. Then Nissan sends letter that they are extending warranty to 100,000 miles with a 3,000 dollar deductible. If I had received a letter earlier from Nissan about the problem, I would have taken the Nissan to a dealer prior to the 80,000 miles. At times the transmission would stall out when making a turn, which could have caused a serious accident; fortunately there were no on coming traffic. The car also has a fuel gauge which gives a false reading at all times to the actual amount of fuel in the tank due to a faulty sending unit. So now I am stuck with a bill for 3,000 dollars. I feel Nissan was negligent in not advising their customers of the problem earlier. The dealer then called me and told me that the timing chain was worn and needed to be replaced at a cost of 2,000 dollars. My Nissan has less than 100,000 miles and the radiator, transmission and timing chain are faulty, and Nissan should cover these charges. This issue happened on Apr. 22, 2012.

The vehicle having this issue was a 2007 SAAB 9-7x. Less than 100 miles after the manufacturer warranty ended, after filling the gas tank, the gauge dropped to "empty" and the gas light came on. After driving for several miles the gauge started fluctuating between full and empty, and seemed to be accurate after a while. This continued for a few weeks, but eventually stopped fluctuating and now always shows empty, regardless of the amount of fuel in the tank. This tank mounting problem happened on Friday, November 19, 2010.

The vehicle identification number (VIN) of the car was 5S3ET13M96_. 2006 SAAB 9-when fuel tank is filled with gas, the fuel gauge in the intrument panel reads empty and the check engine light illuminates. Will be uncertain as to how much fuel is in the tank. After approximately 100 miles, the gauge will swing between full and empty and may begin to function normally. However, there is no clear indication of the amount of fuel in the tank. The local SAAB dealership indicated the cause is a faulty fuel level sensor and is common with this year/model vehicle. Only recourse is to utilize the odometer and refill every 250 miles travelled. The failure date was 02/01/11.

The vehicle was a 2006 Saturn Saturn Ion. The vehicle identification number (VIN) is 1G8AN15F46_. Gas fumes have been noticed within the car, outside the car near the fuel tank, and strongly within the trunk. There is a recall for fuel leakage #09v419000, however, my car doesnt qualifiy since its not registered and/or was purchased in the states listed. New jersey had a record breaking heat and the highest amount of hot days therefore the recall/bulletin should be updated immediately to include NJ. For total repairs for this serious safety defect. This a definite safety issue and I feel that the manufacturers and dealers are accountable for this repair. They sold this vehicle with good faith and profit. I bought it for the safety, and yet this car is not safe to drive. This problem occurred on Thursday, October 6, 2011.

My 2006 Saturn Ion, has started to have a distinct overwhelming fuel smell and gas can be noticed under the car from a leak. It is also harder to start and may take 2 times of turning the ignition. I have taken my car to an independent repair shop and was told the fuel pump which connects to the top of the fuel tank is leaking and I will need a new fuel pump assembly and fuel filter. There is a very specific recall for this issue on gm vehicles in warm weather states, but gm is not honoring this defect in all states. It has been an unseasonably hot summer, so all states have hot weather. Gm told me this is VIN specific, but if this is a defect on a part, why isn't it part specific. My car is leaking gas and could start a fire at any moment and yet gm does not see this as an issue. Many other Saturn/gm owners have posted about this default and have been denied any coverage by gm. How can this not be an issue for every state, when owners in every state that own a Saturn or other gm model are having the same issue? I am taking my Saturn to a gm dealership, and have to have them deam this as a defect. So, the company that will loose money if they have to fix this for free is determining if this is an item that qualifies? this is a conflict of interest and a recall should be posted for the safety of all gm owners. This tank mounting problem happened on Aug. 2, 2011.

The car was a 2001 Subaru Legacy. Purchased vehicle in south carolina and drove it back to northern kentucky. It produced approximately 380 miles on one tank of fuel. Note: it was well into the 50-60 f range outside while driving during that time. Subsequent fill-ups in northern kentucky (with outside temperatures ranging from 10-30 f) produced 160-225 miles in-town. I experienced a very strong, raw fuel odor in the passenger cabin. It was taken to a mechanic and they found "nothing wrong. " this of course, does not mean there is nothing wrong. The fuel lines were checked and tightened even though they were neither loose nor worn. After reading the numerous complaints about this problem from other owners, it seems that Subaru owes me and many others a recall. Today is about 14 f outside and I drove the Subaru 16 miles. The fumes were so unbearable I had to pull over and wait for them to subside. This seems like not only an emissions violation, but also a fire and health hazard. This issue happened on Tuesday, December 10, 2013.

The vehicle is a 1994 Toyota Rav4. As I was driving home (approx. 30 mile drive), I was hearing something that was thumping, thinking it was just my seat belt hanging out the door. I tried the passenger seat belt and it was tight, so I assumed it was just my seat belt hanging out the door. After arriving home, I noticed the seat belt was not hanging outside the door. I looked under the car to find a "l-shaped" bar hanging off the car. It was the bar that held the gas tank. I never expected something so important to a car would have let go. All along I am thinking is it still safe to drive the car to the mechanic because there must be a second bar holding the tank up. According to the mechanic, there is not. The mechanic told me I was a very lucky girl as the metal bar was the only bar holding the tank up. There should be a additional bars installed to give extra protection if one should fall off or become loose. This tank mounting problem happened on Sep. 10, 2013.

The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) was WAULT64B13_. The reporting person owns a 2003 Audi A6. Approximately one year ago, the contact smelled a strong odor of gasoline whenever he placed fuel in the vehicle. He also noticed fuel leaking on the garage floor. He assumed that he was placing too much fuel into the vehicle. In the beginning of June of 2008, the contact made sure to fill the vehicle to the correct amount to avoid any fuel leakage. Within half an hour of parking the vehicle, the contact smelled a strong gasoline odor and noticed a much larger puddle of gasoline underneath the vehicle. He called the dealer and was advised to have the vehicle towed; however, the contact refused and drove the vehicle to the dealer. A diagnosis was performed and they stated that there was a crack in the check valve of the fuel tank that could not be repaired. The entire fuel tank needed to be replaced. The contact proceeded with the repairs, which were completed within a week. The failure mileage was 38,000 and current mileage was 40,000. Updated 07/16/08. Updated 07/16/08. The vehicle involved was a 2011 BMW 528i. Purchased a brand new 528i BMW and within months I had a coolant signal indicating low coolant. Subsequently, the coolant signal came on every six weeks, despite having it topped off at dealership. Car had inadequate power and felt like it dragged. BMW service center repeatedly failed to identify a problem. Eventually, the signal came on and an intolerable fuel odor emerged upon turning on the car. Fuel and chemical odors remain. I have read of other similar complaints online and believe there is a manufacturing defect that makes the car unsafe. The exposure to carcinogenic coolant fumes and the gas fumes are dangerous. Coolant may be leaking into the engine. Other mechanical issues may be causing the drag and continued loss of power. In one instance I left the vehicle at the BMW service center with a full tank and when it was returned to me, the fuel level had dropped significantly despite having been driven a very small amount of miles by the service people. I am very concerned that these problems pose a safety hazard to not only myself, but the general public and other BMW owners who may be unaware of these issues. I feel the car is compromised by the manufacturing defects and that efforts to repair the problems continue to exist. I feel the car is unsafe and poses a safety and health hazard and that BMW is unwilling to investigate how pervasive the problem may be. I want an investigation and feel the vehicle is unsafe to drive. This is not "the ultimate driving machine. " please investigate these problems and help prevent others from being unnecessarily subjected to toxic fumes and chemicals which may compromise the public's health and the safety of people on the road. It was Dec. 27, 2012 when this tank mounting issue occurred.

The vehicle was a 2001 BMW 330i. The metal strap that supports the passenger side of the fuel tank just broke off. I was driving down the street and heard a pop sound and then metal grinding and jumping around (like a needle on a scratched record/ a cd) the bracket to which the forward end of this strap mounted to the underbody broke free leaving a gash like tear on the underbody. I am having the car serviced for repairs, but when I called the dealership the parts department didn't have any fixable solution for the mishap. They told me that the only thing that I could do was take it to a body shop to have a fabricated piece made. I've researched this incident and found that there have been several other BMW owners who have experienced the same incident. I am also experiencing the loss of reverse. The drive gear seems to be fine; however, the reverse is not operating. I am now looking into having it serviced for that issue as well. When I called the dealership, they did tell me that there was an open campaign on the transmission (though the service manager said that it was only for programming issues). I had also found that there has been other BMW owners that have experienced this issue as well. I know that they had mentioned that there were two types of transmission (the gm and the zf transmission). There was a mention that it could be a faulty solenoid or the reverse drum has broken/ shredded. None the less you can place into "reverse" and give it gas and nothing happens no movement unless you place into "drive. " my car does have the steptronic feature. This problem occurred on 08/09/12.

The car is a 2003 Buick Lesabre. The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) was 1G4HR54K13_. For the past several months, I have had a problem with a faulty with the gas cap. The alert I receive on the car states that the gas cap is loose, then the engine light goes on. I have had this issue thoroughly checked out by my mechanic and he is stumped as to how to fix this. We have replaced the gas cap several times, he has performed numerous checks to see if there is a leak in the gas tank or fuel lines, all to no avail. He cannot detect a leak. I have spent over $1000 trying to fix this problem. The problem remains unfixed and with the engine light and fault active, this vehicle does not pass state smog. The car involved is a 2005 Buick Rainier. The VIN of this vehicle is 5GADT13S65_. The fuel sensor gauge does not accurately depict how much gasoline is in the tank. When I fill up the tank it remains on "e" and the low fuel indicator light is on. The gauge will fluctuate up and down and never go all the way to "f". I am very upset that this problem is so prevalent yet gm will only cover 50% of the expenses. It is unsafe to not know the correct amount of fuel in one's vehicle. The vehicle having this issue was a 2008 Cadillac Cts. Driving up a hill in PA. We were on state highway 118 near sweet valley PA. Car bucked and jerked violently. Car stopped running in middle of roadway with traffic backed up behind me. Eventually cars worked their way by me and I was able to drift car back to a place where I could get it off the road and out of the way. Very harrowing experience. Very unsafe. Car was towed in as it would not restart. Tow truck driver also tried to restart to move car to optimum place to put car on flatbed. Car would not restart. After diagnosis the dealership said that:
car only had 3 gallons of gas in tank and this was not enough to get up hill. Gas gauge showed between 1/8 to 1/4 of tank. No low fuel light. The dealership said that it might not happen again, but that it could. After returning to my home in FL I took it to the selling dealer. They called Cadillac and Cadillac agreed with both dealerships that there was nothing wrong but that due to the design of the gas tank, the car could stall going up a hill at any time unless a significant amount of gas was in the tank. They would not define significant. They said that gas had sloshed to the rear of the gas tank and the gas pickup was sucking air. They say that after car was towed 30 miles on a flatbed
gas sloshed to the front of tank and engine could be started. They said that nothing could be done. This is a very, very unsafe condition. The guy behind us almost hit us as we decelerated rapidly. And then a whole line of cars almost collided. Cadillac says that nothing can be done. I say that something must be done to protect drivers of all 2008 Cadillac Cts. This issue happened on Saturday, Jul. 12, 2008.
