Tank Assembly problem is a common vehicle problem that happens to most car brands and models. The following is a sample list of Tank Assembly problems reported in most popular vehicles.
2007 Chevrolet Cobalt. Consumer writes in regards to ignition switch recall. The consumer stated the current actions being taken to remedy the situation were inadequate at best. The consumer did not feel safe driving the vehicle. Also, the gas tank had to be replaced due to a leak caused by a defective seal, that was recalled. The consumer had the seal replaced, prior to the recall. However she was denied reimbursement, because the work was not performed at a gm dealership. The blower motor was replaced multiple times, due to it causing a leak on the passenger side of the vehicle. This tank assembly issue occurred April 1, 2014.

The vehicle involved was a 2006 Chrysler 300c. I had just filled up the tank and pulled across the street and into a parking lot. As I was pulling into a parking spot the car died. I was able to get it restarted after about three attempts. After leaving the store I drove home and it died on me at the end on the parking lot as I was pulling into traffic. It died once more as I was driving through a residential area at approx. 25 mph. After I got it home, I allowed it to idle in the driveway for about 5 minutes with no problem. After eating dinner I took it for a drive and it happened again at an intersection. It died and took about five attempts to get it restarted. This tank assembly problem happened on Apr. 13, 2014.

The car is a 2006 Chrysler 300c. The VIN of this vehicle was 2C3KA63H76_. Right after pulling away from a filling station the car stalled, immediately restarted, drove out on the street and stalled again before reaching the next signal light. Restarted kept slightly more pressure on accelerator, and was fortunate not to have stop or slow down in order to reach home it has did the same thing about a month later. The only way I can be sure of the incident not occurring again is to guess how many miles I have gone based on cars? approximate miles per gal since your agency has completed your inquiry ( NHTSA action number pe13016 ) and the manufacturer has agreed to extend the fuel tank warranty to " lifetime ", how do I obtain an authorization to have my vehicle repaired. I have received no information from Chrysler as of this date ( 3/15/14 ). This tank assembly problem happened on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013.

The car is a 2006 Dodge Charger. Vehicle stalled in the middle of a busy street while driving during rush hour traffic. Luckily no one hit me (especially since I had my daughter in the car). I had just filled up the gas tank (did not overfill--gas is way too expensive for that). Had it towed and the dealer had to replace the fuel tank, o-ring unit, vapor canister, solenoid-proportional purge and some misc. Pins etc. Cost me $1900. 00 out of my pocket with the dealer giving me a 10% service discount. They also informed me that with the vapor canister failing, if you were in a rollover accident the car most likely would catch fire which would definitely decrease your chances of surviving. This is a huge safety concern for anyone that is driving or riding in the vehicle even if it only shuts off. You can not brake or steer when the car shuts off so getting out of harms way is a challenge without getting hit by another vehicle. I see that there are a huge number of complaints regarding this issue and it needs to be put out as a service recall. Not an alert or bulletin but an actual recall. I guess when people start losing their lives and the lives of their loved ones that are passengers then maybe Dodge will do the right thing. I see that there is some info out there that Dodge was extending the warranty on the fuel tank/system and letters were to be sent to the car owners. I have not received anything I honestly believe that I should be reimbursed. Dodge used to have "safety first" on their website. Odd, I don't see that anymore. It was December 11, 2013 when this tank assembly issue happened.

The vehicle involved was a 2011 Lexus Es. While traveling on the highway with the traffic at approximatley 70mph, midmorning, we heard a loud pop from the car. We saw nothing on the road and no one else traveling around us experienced any problems. We were notified by a car traveling next to us that we were leaking gas. We proceeded off the highway at the first exit and pulled into a gas station and shut down the car. Within 8-10 min, the entire tank of gas (we just filled the tank up approximately 20 min prior) had leaked onto the ground. The fire dept was called just in case the car blew up. The firefighter looked under the vehicle and put a plug in the gas tank to stop what fuel was left from leaking out the tank. The car was towed to the closest dealer. The serviceman at the dealership determined the car had a whole in the gas tank, a dented oil pan and a small 2in gash in the spare-tire well ( the latter two we never verified). The vehicle, purchased new 1 month prior, had been driven approximately 600-800 miles within a 4 day period. As the main driver, I noticed the vehicle had a slow takeoff and took several pushes of the gas peddle to get moving eventhough it is a 6 cylinder vehicle. This issue happened on 11/27/11.

The vehicle is a 2008 Mercury Sable. On the above date - September 28, 2011, I became aware that the gas in the gas tank was moving
around (sloshing) whenever the vehicle stopped or started moving from a dead stop. I contacted Ford customer relationship in florida and they were not helpful at all. I talked to them
3 different times - - -they couldn't tell me if there are baffles in the tank to prevent the sloshing -
they didn't even know what a baffle was - -would not direct me to someone with more technical knowledge. Last contact was Thursday, oct. 13,2011, yesterday - - was on the phone 32 minutes with an individual
who couldn't find the answer and wouldn't try to find someone who could give me an answer. A gas tank should not have a problem such as this in 39 months of ownership. Gas tanks don't
"wear out" in this period of time. And I can't get any answers. There has been no accident or damage
to this vehicle. Does my vehicle have baffles in the gas tank?? is there a safety issue here with the sloshing of
the gas? if there are baffles why would they suddenly stop functioning? would this problem
be covered in the vehicle warranty?. It was Wed., Sep. 28, 2011 when this tank assembly issue occurred.

Dealership not cooperating, fixed the wrong thing, engine still cuts out/stalls, now saying I "overfilled the gas tank, ruining the charcoal fuel canister. " this is not covered under warranty?! there has to be another reason this happened. I have never overfilled or topped off my gas. I think they messed it up, or perhaps the gauges are wrong. The vehicle involved was a 2008 Nissan Pathfinder. The VIN of this vehicle is 5N1AR18B68_. Starting last summer we initially noticed a problem with our gas gauge reading, but it seemed to go away. It is now happening frequently and almost caused an accident. We were in heavy traffic on a 4 lane and we thought we had enough gas, 1/4 tank?, but all of a sudden we ran out of gas. We were lucky that we were not hit by a semi truck. We fortunately were able to push it to the side of the road and wait for my son to come with a can of gas. We called dorschel Nissan in rochester and they agreed that it was a recall, we had went on your site and checked prior (10v075000). We scheduled an appointment. Now we received a call from them telling us that it is not covered, that it was a warranty extension item and that we are past the date?? wow, what customer service. I think this is a safety issue and that this is not a normal wear and tear item. They obviously have had problems with these sensors (80,000 recalls?) now the gas gauge is doing other things, saying we don't have any gas when we just filled up?. The failure date was Jul. 15, 2013.

I finally took it in to the mechanic and tells me that the gas tank is leaking from the top and it's too major of a job to take on. Suggested I take it to the dealership. Firestone is worried my vehicle could catch on fire. I hope the dealer has a better insight on this. My wife has been driving this car. It's very upsetting. It was 08/30/13 when this tank assembly issue occurred.

The vehicle having this issue was a 2000 Suzuki Vitara. Check engine light came on. My wife brought it in to royal Suzuki tucson,, arizona repeatedly while still under warranty. Dealer kept telling her it was her fault for not closing gas cap tightly enough. This happened several times at a charge of $50 , extended warranty deductible, each time. I even bought a new gas cap, no change. Now that the warranty expired, they tell us it the fuel pressure sensor in the tank needs replacing. There are no after market parts for this, and I refuse to pay the dealership for the part they should have replaced under warranty. Therefore, my wife , lisa schrant, is driving the vehicle with the check engine light constantly illuminated. This may hide any new problems which may occur. This tank assembly issue occurred Tuesday, May. 15, 2001.

The vehicle is a 1993 Toyota Pickup. I was removing the gas tank due to a fuel leak and found that the frame had rusted heavily and entire sections of the frame box wall were gone. Toyota had a voluntary buyback program for 1995-2004 Pickup trucks due to extreme frame rusting. I have never seen frame rust this bad. Toyota should be encouraged to extend the buyback program to 1993 models or recall the vehicles and repair them. Pictures are available. It was Nov. 8, 2013 when this tank assembly issue happened.

The vehicle having this issue was a 2007 Toyota Corolla. The VIN of this Corolla is 2T1BR32E27_. I stopped at a gas station to fill my gas tank and while this was being done I heard a loud bang similar to a gunshot. When I started my car there was a loud rattling sound. I stopped the car and got out to look underneath but couldn't see anything hanging. Since I was near home I started the car and drove slowly home. I took it to the dealer the next day and they repaired the gas tank strap passenger side. I told them I considered this to be a design defection and a safety issue. They stated there has been no recall despite the fact that they had seen quite a few of the same problems. I had to pay for the repair. Toyota corp has refused to reimburse me for the repair because my car is out of warranty. I have had many cars and have never had this problem before. I am told that there is a drivers side strap as well so I suppose I can look forward to this happening again plus since it is due to corrosion I can expect this to happen again in about five years. I do not know how likely this is to lead to the gas tank dropping but I don't feel to good about it. This issue happened on 08/17/12.

I'm having the same problem covered under recall 01v259000 for year 2000 Audi A8s, but I'm told my car is "outside the build date" covered. I have a large fuel vapor leak at the fuel filler neck / expansion tank, which was the subject of the recall, but I called Audi and they are denying coverage of my car. I cannot smog the car without this being fixed, and the car is leaking fuel vapors into the atmosphere, causing pollution, and risking a possible fire. This problem occurred on Oct. 4, 2011.

The car is a 2001 BMW 330ci. The VIN of this vehicle is WBABN534X1_. There is a metal strap that runs under the right gas tank and holds the gas tank to the car. One end is bolted. The other end is hooked to a bracket that is welded to the frame of the car. As I was getting off the freeway the 4 welds on the bracket failed. The complete strap and bracket assembly dragged on the road. This made a growling noise so loud that I had to pull over, get under the car to see what was happening. The right gas tank was now dangling from the car. This bracket failure should have never happened. It was Jan. 13, 2014 when this tank assembly issue occurred.. Read more...

The car is a 2005 Cadillac Cts. While driving on the highway under normal operating conditions, my properly maintained and unmodified 2005 Cadillac Cts caught fire. The fire caused significant damage to the drive train and fuel tank with the plastic fuel tank seconds away from being totally breached by flames and likely significant injuries including death. The fire burned for 30-40 minutes until the responding firefighters were able to jack up the vehicle and extinguish the fire with water from underneath. Fortunately, the firefighters were able to extinguish the vehicle fire prior to the fuel tank breach with no apparent related injuries. Pursuant to an expert analysis and report, the following manufacturing and/or design defects sequentially caused said fire: 1. While driving, the rear carrier pinion bearing failed; 2. Failed carrier pinion caused excessive play in the pinion gear; 3. Excessive play in the pinion gear caused failure of the pinion gear seal in the ring and pinion housing; 4. Failed pinion gear seal allowed the rear carrier lubricant to leak; 5. With vehicle in motion, rear carrier lubricant contacted rotating driveshaft assembly; 6. Rotating driveshaft and pinion yoke "sprayed" lubricant in the rear axle housing area including onto exhaust, plastic fuel tank, rubber driveshaft coupler and floor pan; 7. Heat from exhaust or pinion gear ignited lubricant & subsequent fire quickly spread across the bottom of the vehicle. Expert report concluded that manufacturing and / or design defects were previously well-documented by nhsa 2005 Cadillac Cts nhsa owner complaints and said fire could have been prevented by vehicle manufacturer through recall notices and use of non-combustible materials. It was Saturday, May. 19, 2012 when this tank assembly issue happened.
