Fuel Pump problem is a common vehicle problem that happens to most car brands and models. The following is a sample list of Fuel Pump problems reported in most popular vehicles.
The car was a 2009 Chevrolet Aveo. The VIN of this vehicle was KL1TD56E09_. 2011 car lost acceleration hold light and check engine light came on had to pump gas pedal to prevent car from cutting off . Took car to chevy dealer had to purchase water or fuel pump I forgot which one. Then receive recall for coil. Had that replaced free at dealer. 2012 incident, car lost acceleration at speeds of 40mph again had to pump gas pedal to prevent cut off. Did not take to dealer added gas treatment to fuel and changed gasoline brands. Problem solved for about two weeks. Lost acceleration again. Changed air filter car was good for about 2 days. Continued to drive car for next several years with same problem. 2013 car not producing any heat added anti-freeze, heat came out right after. Next day no heat again anti-freeze container was empty again. Continued to added anti-freeze to prevent car from running hot. 2014 took car to dealer for anti-freeze problem they replaced the container and cap (purchased separately) and flushed the radiator cost $312. Two weeks later car ran hot steam shooting out from under the hood. Anti-freeze container empty again. Returned car to dealer where it is now they told me I had blown head gaskets and that it would cost $1500 to repair on a car I still pay monthly notes. They called the next day told me gm would cover 60% of the cost and I had to pay $600. I feel that gm should add the 2009 Chevrolet Aveo to their list of recall and replace the whole car for all who have paid out money for these reoccurring problems because this car is a piece of junk. It was Monday, Feb. 14, 2011 when this fuel pump issue happened.

The vehicle involved is a 2006 Chrysler 300c. Upon fill up of gas tank until pump auto shuts off, when driving away from gas station, vehicle will constantly stall and not start, vehicle will shut off unexpectedly in the middle of traffic, this became very dangerous when it happened in the middle of an intersection with my children in the car. I had the gas tank, fuel pump, evap pump, charcoal canister all replaced by galeanas Dodge in warren mi. All expenses were on me. The parts used were the exact same ones that came from the factory, no superseded parts were used or updated. I know this is a very common problem with many others who drive a similarly equipped vehicle. This problem occurred on May 1, 2012.

The VIN of this vehicle is 1D4GP24R95_. The fuel pump on our 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan had to be replaced due to cracks and leaks which left a strong fuel odor along with the loss of gasoline. The fuel pump should have lasted at least 100,000 miles but it did not. When I searched online, I found that quite a few owners of the same vehicle had this problem. The sub par parts are costly to replace, especially when considering it was no fault of the owners. The failure date was Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014.

The car is a 2006 Ford Ranger. The VIN of the car is 1FTZR45E36_. Ford vehicle lost power and stopped running with full tank of fuel. Would not restart, had towed to repair shop. Replaced fuel pump for $606. 99. Drove about a mile and same thing happened again. Found that the fuel inertia shut off switch needed re-setting. Bought a fuel pump I didn't need. This has happened multiple times this year again. Ford dealer said I needed a fuel pump. (35,000 miles) again, no way. The replacement part (inertia switch) moves the switch from passenger floor area to side kick panel. The design change shows design flaw. Ford should replace for no cost. Very dangerous when engine dies. This fuel pump problem happened on Fri., Sep. 10, 2010.

The car was a 2007 Ford F-150. The vehicle identification number (VIN) of this Ford F-150 is 1FTRW14W87_. I was accelerating from a stop and vehicle shut off. I am 8mths pregnant and was stuck on the side of the road for over a 1/2 hour in -45 degree weather waiting for tow truck, because vehicle would not start. Mechanic looked at vehicle and found #9 fuse for fuel pump blown. Fuse replaced, and vehicle ran for 30seconds and electrical plug to driver control module began to smoke and melt. Driver control module and electrical plug replaced, and vehicle runs. I would have like to have been notified by Ford to avoid my stranded experience in -45 degree weather. This was a huge safety risk and it can be avoided. Ford should have located this device near the fuse box or under hood by fire wall plenty of room and same amount of wire. This issue happened on Monday, January 6, 2014.

The vehicle is a 2005 GMC Envoy. The VIN of this Envoy is 1GKDT13S65_. Repeat problems since car was purchased brand new at dealers. Air /O2 sensors defective/replaced. Defective fuel pump/fuel sensor/electronic gas gauge; flickering/dimming headlights; freezing/inability to control driver's side seat and controls. 1/4 of front instrument panel lights out; drivers side seat control lighting 1/4 out; check engine light and low fuel light on continuously since 1997. Tie rods both replaced as well as both front sway bars. Immediately following vehicle purchase, check engine light would continuously go off. I would call onstar at which point I was told to take car in for repair w/I 7-10 days (often told a problem w/powertrain or transmission) . At dealers service dept, told over and over again after tons of worry, concern and time spent, that electrical system on this car tends to trip/trigger check engine light and they would just reset it so after awhile, I began to disregard the light as I was in the dealership almost weekly. Approx 2 yrs after purchase, filled up gas tank and fuel light showed "low fuel". Went back up to full, dropped to 1/2 and back to empty. Went back to full after car was turned off and continued to do this. After about 2 weeks, constantly stays at empty. Called repair shop and was told approx $700-800 to drop tank and replace fuel sensor which I could not afford and began to track odometer and refill tank after 200 miles driven after fill up. Have been doing this for 5 years. Jan 29,2011, I go for emission test. Fail d/t low fuel and check engine light being on. Go to mechanic, approx $950 repair. Check engine light goes off. . . And back on next day. Read thousands of posts online and am finding many, many Envoy owners experiencing same problems as mine. These are safety issues and gm should issue a recall on entire fuel and electrical system. Please call for questions/clarification. It was Monday, Jan. 1, 2007 when this fuel pump issue occurred.

The vehicle involved was a 2005 Acura Tl. The VIN of this Tl is 19UUA66235_. My fuel pump is knocking, shaking, causing my car to cut off, and causing the vhs light to come on which is a signal that my brakes are being effected. The staff at carland Acura played games with me on the phone when I told them there was a recall regarding this problem. They kept putting me on hold and transferring be from one department to another. The manager, eric, argued with me stating that their was no recall on the fuel pump/fuel system because he had already researched it. Can someone help me with getting my car repaired. I have small children that I have to transport in my vehicle. Can someone make a dealership, Acura, or Honda accountable for my vehicle so that I can travel safely. The vehicle identification number (VIN) of the car was 5FNRL38655_. Complaint corrected by Honda corporate. Strong gas smell on Honda Odyssey 2005. Was told I had a cracked fuel pump and repair was $565. I saw the other complaints online so I call Honda corporate via Honda. Com and complained and told them I did not have the money. They said take it to a Honda dealer to verify the problem, and they gave me a reference number. And said they will see if I can get an out of warranty fix as a good will jester. Today I dropped the car off to hoehn Honda in carlsbad and the repair was approved for free as a goodwill jester, and Honda is also fixing a seatbealt since the sr light was on and airbag. A strong gasoline smell in the cabin and on the outside of the 2005 Honda Odyssey van. I called Honda in October about it they said take to dealer to check fuel relay switch, dealer said it was okay, but to diagnose the smell they have to charge me $120. I did not have the money so I had to leave. Been sick with dealing cancer appointments and , had no time or money to deal with car, finally I took it on 12/6/2016 to a private mechanic for only $40 and they said it had a crack on top of the fuel pump casing. But the whole fuel pump had to be repaired and was going to cost $563. They advised me not to drive it around, so I contacted Honda and they said if I take it back to the dealer they might help me with the repair, because they don't want the car to blow up while I am driving it. I inquired as to a recall for this problem and the service adviser stated that she was not aware of any recall notice for the fuel pump problem, but would see if I could get out of warranty help, I told her that I have read online and had printed out so many people stating their 2005 Hondas having this same problem. I would like to have this investigated for a recall. Just because I don't have the money to fix this faulty casing which is a common problem, I should not have to risk mine or anyone else's life. I will repost the outcome, Honda gave me a reference number and said someone should contact me by the end on 12/09/2013 to let me know if the can help with the cost. This fuel pump issue occurred October 1, 2013.

The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) was 5NMSG13D98_. The fuel gauge on my 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe at around 67k miles started reading empty and then it started reading normal and then empty. Finally it has only read empty for the past couple thousand miles. I was hoping that it would fix itself which it never did. Wishful thinking. I ended up bringing my Santa Fe into the local Hyundai service department to troubleshoot the problem plus replace the front and back brakes, and perform existing recalls. They told me that one of the two fuel pumps located in the gas tank had failed. The fuel pump that failed was the one with the sending unit which provides the signal to the fuel gauge. They told me that I was fortunate that the other fuel pump did not fail as my Hyundai Santa Fe will stop running. This problem occurred on Jan. 31, 2014.

The vehicle involved is a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe. The fuel gauge on dash has begun fluctuating wildly even with full tank of gas. No check engine light yet but based on what I have read I am anticipating a problem code coming soon. My research is pointing to the fuel level sensor attached to the fuel pump. However, only the whole assembly appears to be available and as such, it is highly costly to correct. Hyundai should provide a recall for this due to the huge number of people experiencing the same problem. It has also been noted that this has caused vehicles to stall while on the highway creating a hazard to other drivers and myself. When the car ran out of gas, the power steering went out and it became very hard to steer. Please see the following web site for a current list of many other Santa Fe owners having the same problem. The consumer stated the vehicle had to be towed, where an inspection revealed the gas tank was empty, even the needle read half full. The fuel pump sending unit was replaced, but it did not rectify the problem. Finally in December 2011, during a smog test, it was discovered the fuel gauge was defective. The failure date was Wednesday, December 26, 2007.

The vehicle involved is a 2003 Infiniti M45. Vehicle identification number (VIN): JNKAY41E53_. This relates to NHTSA investigation pe11038. I write about a faulty design that Infiniti did not recall and will not take responsibility for. Some time ago, my fuel gauge became erratic, then the "service engine soon" light went on. The trouble code, p0462, was for "fuel level sensor a circuit low input" (not really news since the gauge wasn't working). I took it to a shop that replaced the fuel sender and fuel pump, but that didn't solve the problem. They told me that the instrument cluster had to be replaced and that Infiniti has redesigned the cluster because the original design was faulty. As I was told, the design error caused the cluster to fail when the fuel sender failed. I see online that this is a recurring problem and one that Infiniti will sometimes take responsibility for - though not for me. I understand, of course, that manufacturers generally need to put some limits on their warranty liability. My fuel sender failed after my warranty had expired, and I would not expect Infiniti to cover the cost of that repair. However, the instrument cluster was poorly designed such that it too could fail if the fuel sender went bad. That, apparently, is a problem that Infiniti knew about years ago and chose not to address. It seems reasonable to me that Infiniti would not issue a recall for such an issue that would likely be seen only by a minority of owners. However, it also seems fair that the owners who are affected - regardless of their warranty status at the time of failure - would have their faulty clusters replaced at Infiniti's expense (which would certainly be a small expense compared to a recall). Repeated inquiries to Infiniti - directly and through my dealer - have elicited only the response that my car is out of warranty. It was Wed., Sep. 15, 2010 when this fuel pump issue happened.

The car was a 2006 Jeep Liberty. The vehicle identification number (VIN) of this Jeep Liberty is 1J4GL48K86_. This incident started in 2008 and at the time thought it was a failure of the gas pump at the gas station but now the problem is more common and happens weekly, recently splashing gasoline into my eyes which required fluid eye rinse and medical attention. Every time I fill up the tank on my 2006 Jeep Liberty, the gas begins to overflow and splashes back, out of the fuel inlet opening. This in turn sprays fuel out at a force, and then onto the ground. Recently this happened and sprayed fuel into my eyes, on onto my clothes. Not only is this a safety issue, but also a major fire hazard. It is my understanding after talking with the dealer that this is a known problem with Jeep Liberty's in that the fuel tank's inlet check valve is faulty which in turn fails to automatically shut off the gas station fuel pump in time. This is my formal complaint that I was injured due to a known, faulty part/component of the Jeep Liberty. This fuel pump problem happened on 06/25/2008.

The vehicle identification number (VIN) of this Land Rover Range Rover is SALPV1440X_. The vehicle was a 1999 Land Rover Range Rover. The contact heard a rattling sound and noticed that the heat shield surrounding the muffler was compromised. He took the vehicle to several dealers, but they could not locate any failure. The contact stated that the heat from the exhaust melted the plastic gas tank and surrounding wires. The exhaust is located next to the gas tank, unlike most vehicles. The design has fused the fuel pump to the gas tank. A mechanic inspected the vehicle and stated that the heat from the exhaust has caused a dangerous fuel leak. The exhaust system was repaired for $2,000 by a local mechanic. The mechanic stated that the fuel design was a safety hazard and caused the damage. Land rover refused to repair the vehicle for free. The failure mileage was 90,000 and current mileage was 110,000. It was Jan. 15, 2008 when this fuel pump issue happened.

There was a half a tank of gas in the vehicle. The vehicle would crank and crank but would not start. I troubleshooted the issue to a failed fuel pump. When I pulled the fuel pump out of the fuel tank I noticed that the wiring going to the negative side of the pump was melted. The vehicle was a 2006 Mercedes Benz E350. Vehicle identification number (VIN): WDBUF56J86_. In the previous months leading up to March 2012, I, along with my family, started to smell a strong odor of fuel in the interior of our Mercedes Benz e 350w. The smell was so strong that when riding in the automobile, we had to drive with the windows down fearing of what could happen to me and my family if there was a spark from any part of the engine or underneath the automobile. At a point during that bad experience with that automobile, I could only fill the fuel tank half full without smelling the strong odor of gasoline inside the vehicle. I thought it was now time to get some professional service and advice. In January, 2012, I took my automobile to atlanta classic cars, inc. In duluth georgia 30098. After the first inspection, I was told fuel sending units leak fuel. The next visit, March 2012, both sending units were replaced. Before the next visit, the fuel fumes continued. The next visit, April 3, 2012, the fuel pump was replaced due to intermittent open circuit. The next visit, April 9, 2012; "the team leader found a slight trail of fuel residue which may be where fuel vapors are coming from part of the fuel tank. " the next and last visit, April 12, 2012 the fuel tank was replaced. Not trusting the work performed by that dealership and the time it took to find that problem, my wife and I had no other choice but to trade the automobile. Maintaining ownership of that automobile was much too risky and dangerous for my family. Dealing with that dealerships service advisor was much too difficult!!!. The vehicle was a 2007 SAAB 9-3. Began having issues starting, and misfires, and finally engine lost compression but still able to start when weather was warm. Nov -Dec 2011 no start or hard start in weather below 35f,local service shop said needed new engine, no compression when sat for long periods or exterior temp below 35f approx 94,000 mile. Dec 2011- called SAAB but bankrupt so no customer service, reached out to gm corporate regarding warranty and was told not honoring them since bankruptcy. Jan 2012 -2nd opinion by indy SAAB focused service center. Thought wrong oil was put in and with proper oil car, new spark plugs, fuel pump, etc started even in cold weather, but still misfired and rough idle and had to start in cold had mild winter. Jan 2013- same no start in cold and compression test again and cold test showed no compression in all cylinders. Hard to start when outside temp was below 30f and tested compression again and loss of compression, and ran sea foam through engine to remove carbon buildup upon suggestion from website board, others having issues with gm motors! not specific to SAAB. Still randomly started car ever 6 hours when temp dropped below 28f. Mar 2013- did another top engine cleaning with sea foam, mild weather until December. Dec 4th 2013-again hard start in cold weather did another top engine cleaning with sea foam. Jan 8, 2014- temp outside 22f no start again after sitting for 6 hours, battery dead from cranking, car towed, and no compression again, another 2 cycles top engine cleaning, car started after sitting in shop overnight. Jan 22, 2014- temp outside 16f, sat idle for 8 hours, no start again, battery died from cranking, car towed to shop, waiting on diagnosis. Found mention of spna technical bulletin dated 12/17/2013 hard starting cold w/ engine misfire and low compression 9-3 b207 and it described my issue perfectly. Reaching out local SAAB/gm service center. It was Tuesday, November 29, 2011 when this fuel pump issue occurred.

The car involved is a 2006 SAAB 9-7x. The VIN of the car is 5S3ET13S46_. The fuel pump is faulty. I was told from my SAAB mechanic that he had seen 3 other models just as mine, within a couple of weeks, with the same problem. He told me that there is currently not a re-call on the part. I can not tell how much gas is in my vehicle, and need to make sure I gas up ever 300 miles. I was told this problem will keep re-occurring so I have not bothered to have it fixed, as I can't just throw money away. I feel that a re-call should happen. This problem occurred on Mon., May. 16, 2011.

The car was a 2007 Saturn Ion. Vehicle identification number (VIN): 1G8AJ58F47_. I was stopped at a red light. The light turned green and I depressed the gas pedal. The car started to move and immediately died. I turned the key in an attempt to restart the car several times; the car engine would turn over but immediately die. I was stranded in the middle of an intersection. I called 911 for help so that I could get out of the intersection and not get hit by oncoming cars. Police responded and moved my car; I then waited for a tow truck, and had car towed. At the repair shop, they diagnosed the problem as a bad fuel pump. Upon replacement of fuel pump, car would not start; according to invoice report, they then removed gas tank and found "no power to fuel pump module" and then "inspected harness" and found "internal open wires at power side" and "need to replace upper fuel pump" as well. It was Saturday, November 16, 2013 when this fuel pump issue occurred.

I have had nothing but problems with my Saturn Ion since I have owned it. First there was a purge solenoid that went out on my car which affected how I started it. Then my key got stuck in my ignition with the car on! I had to disconnect the fuel pump fuse and the battery to get the car off. A month later of driving the car without being able to use the key, I ordered a new part for it and had a friend rebuild the ignition in the car and now only my spare key to the car will work. Now the most recent issue to date is the fuel pump. I started smelling gas about a month ago and it gradually got worse over time. Took it to have it looked at and there is now gas leaking onto my gas tank and gasoline is also pooling under my car! huge problem! my friend says it is the fuel pump that is going out on the car and I do see that it is under recall but I don't think my car falls under the recall which is ridiculous!. This fuel pump issue occurred Tue., Oct. 1, 2013.

Fuel leak in 2004 Subaru Forester xt similar to other safety complaints entered, NHTSA campaign 09v468000 and Subaru recall wvk-21 for 2003 wrx. Evening of 7jan2014 driving home (in uncommonly cool weather) the vehicle began to smell strongly of gasoline in the passenger compartment. Upon arriving home, inspected under the hood to observe dripping fuel (approximately 1 drip per second) above the engine at a metal to rubber fuel line connection. Leaked fuel was pooled on the top of the engine. A puddle of warm fuel vaporizing near electrical equipment (battery, alternator, radiator fans) is a serious fire hazard. The car has been parked since the event. I investigated on the internet and have found numerous other accounts of cold weather fuel leaks in many Subaru models nearly identical to mine. My local Subaru dealer appeared to be aware of the issue when I called, but stated there is no active recall on my model. They offered that their fix is to tighten the hose clamps but I would need to cover the cost of the work. If Subaru has accepted responsibility for this issue in the 2002-2003 impreza and wrx, why would they not address the problem in other models that show the same symptoms?. This issue happened on 01/07/14.

The car was a 2003 Suzuki xl-7. My 2003 Suzuki xl-7 started making noises and suddenly the engine died while I was driving on a major road at an intersection during heavy traffic. My car would not crank back up and I had to have a police officer help me push my car through the intersection and call a tow truck. The tow truck took my car to the local Suzuki dealership and service dept. The head mechanic informed me after inspecting the vehicle that my internal fuel pump burnt all my wiring harnesses up in the entire car. I was low on fuel that day and it was a miracle that the fuel tank did not blow up and or the vehicle didn't catch fire. The mechanic has recorded what he found and we have all the burnt and defective original parts. I have paid a lot and am still waiting for over two months without a car for the parts to get it fixed. A recall needs to be made and an investigation on the fuel pump that was installed in my car by the manufacturer Suzuki. This fuel pump issue occurred Tuesday, March 10, 2009.

The vehicle involved is a 2001 Volvo V70. The VIN of this vehicle was YV1SW61RX1_. I began to notice a fuel smell and drip marks under the vehicle after parking the vehicle in the garage in the evening. Upon investigation, I noted fuel drips on the underbody of the vehicle in an area slightly in front of the fuel tank and a developing fuel puddle immediately under the vehicle. Following an inspection at the Volvo dealer, it was determined that the electric fuel pump was leaking fuel. It was explained to me that the fuel pump housing was cracked and leaking fuel at an unsafe condition. I was advised to replace the pump immediately due to the high level of fuel leakage. I was also advised that the fuel tank sending pump was also defective and required immediate replacement. The failure date was Oct. 15, 2013.

The vehicle involved is a 2008 Buick Lucerne. Car would not start, and the fuel relay fuse had blown, damaging the fuse box. Fuse was replaced and on Dec 4, 2013 the car would not start again. New fuse block had to be installed. Mechanic's diagnoses said the fuel pump was not receiving good voltage at time, further inspection and testing showed under the rear seal left side fuse block is receiving good voltage but sending a low voltage signal to the fuel pump. Further investigation shows a burnt and melted high resistance connection at the fuel pump relay. Normally, I understand the fuse next to the relay should have blown. Problem seems to stem with the fuse box and there was only one available in the united states on 12/4/2013 which I got. My mechanic was told they are on national backorder and it could take up to 6 months to receive one. So there is an obvious problem with these fuse boxes. This issue happened on Saturday, November 23, 2013.

The car involved is a 2007 Jaguar X-type. The VIN of this X-type is SAJWA51A87_. The engine stalled out when we were traveling in the passing lane at speed on an interstate highway. We had to move to the right side shoulder of the highway in front of another vehicle we had just passed and other traffic coming close behind. Definitely a scary situation for us and the other drivers. We were towed to the nearest jag dealer. The dealer had our car for two weeks. They replaced the fuel pump. The service tech's told us that they had never heard of a fuel pump going bad in an X-type. When I questioned the cost of the job, about $1450, I was told that the fuel tank had to be removed to replace the fuel pump. Since that time, we have had a battery replaced, the second for this car since we have owned it, and had to have brake pads replaced, at which time, we were told that the rear brakes had a problem in the calipers that caused the pads to sit further from the discs than they should. This brake problem causes us to use extra pedal travel when braking the car. Then, on Dec 9, 2013, the rear differential fell out of the bottom of our car. We were only doing about 20 mph so there was no accident, but we had to be towed to a jag dealer about 30 miles away. My research found that when the fuel tank is removed, the differential would also be removed. This was confirmed by the service writer where my jag was towed. One of the differentials bolts broke where it appeared to have been cracked, as if it had been over torqued when installed! the service writer asked to see the work order for the fuel pump work, so I asked him to look it up. He was not able to find the info, because the work was done out of warranty and the jag system does not record out of warranty work! that is probably why the techs never heard of a fuel pump going bad or a differential falling out of a jag car, even though there have been examples of both reported here!. This fuel pump problem happened on Dec. 21, 2012.

The vehicle involved is a 2005 Jaguar S-type. I would like to start by sharing with you that I am a father, husband, friend and active member of the community that I am part of. Today, I am contacting you because I am extremely concerned about an issue that has occurred with our family car that we purchased only two months ago. I am concerned because I feel that driving this car presents a high danger and can cause a tragic accident harming not just me, but my children whom I drive to anf from school, my wife and friends and other fellow drivers who drive on the same streets and highways I do. The details of my concern and complain are as follows and I hereby request that your organization investigate this matter until the cause of it as well as the permanent resolution is found and reached for the benefit of all the drivers on the road - who are not just drivers but also parents, children, siblings, spouses and friends to those in their lives. In the two months I have owned a 2005 s type Jaguar, I have had to take it to the dealer twice with the same problem which the Jaguar mechanics have not been able to figure out the root cause of. The issue involves the car shutting down right in the middle of the street without warning. The dealer has told me that the fuel system/pump is failing on the car, however, they are not able to determine what causes the fuel pump system to fail. Since I have taken the car now twice in two months, the dealer is telling me that they will not fix it again if the fuel system fails. I am extremely concerned because the dealer/manufacturer now does not want to take ownership of the issue and identify and correct the root cause of the problem which I found out through an attorney is a known problem for these cars and there was actually had a recall under NHTSA's campaign id number: 06v418000. This issue happened on Tuesday, September 20, 2011.
