Bumper problem is a common vehicle problem that happens to most car brands and models. The following is a sample list of Bumper problems reported in most popular vehicles.
The vehicle involved is a 2001 Chevrolet Venture. While turning left at a light the electric sliding door opened, all of the lights came on in the van including the light notifing me that the door was opened. The door is suppose to have a safety on it so it can not open unless the door is unlocked and the car is in park. My 1 year old was sitting on that side of the van at the time. The dealer says it is only covered under an extended warranty and I have to pay the deductible to have the repair made. This is a safety issue and my son could have fallen out of the car. This door has been recalled and I had it repaired one time before due to hearing air coming into the door, it was not sealing correctly. Now the door is opening even though there are safety devices to stop this from happening. I should not have to pay for a safety issue with this door. I wonder how many other people are having the same problem. Dt. This problem occurred on October 27, 2002.

The vehicle having this issue was a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer ext. The rear bumper of my 2003 chevy Trailblazer cracked duing an impact of less than 5mph. Gm told me that this isn't a problem, and this might happen. I thought they named this a bumper because it was there to withstand some kind of impact. This bumper problem happened on Monday, Mar. 15, 2004.

The car was a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500. The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) was 3D7KU28C94_. 2004 Dodge ram front bumper was loose. Customer states he towed the vehicle to California and back before noticing the bumper. He was thankful the bumper didn't detach while towing the truck. The consumer wanted to tow the vehicle behind his motorhome. The consumer purchased a 10,000 pound blue ox tow bar and the recommended blue ox truck attachment bar to go with the specific tow bar. The consumer noticed the bumper assembly was only attached to the frame with four 7/16 bolts. The bolts were the only thing that held the assembly to the frame with only 1/8 or less metal slotted brackets. The jarring movement of the towing had allowed movement of the brackets at the point of contact with the frame. It was Oct. 1, 2007 when this bumper issue occurred.

The car involved is a 2000 Ford Ranger. The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) was 1FTZR15V0Y_. While pulling into my driveway the rear bumper fell off. After getting under the vehicle I found the frame to be rusted from the furthest point back to the axle area. Looking into it more I found the cross member to be rusted to the point that it is ready to fall off. The gas tank holding straps are rusted from the frame, not sure what's holding the gas tank in place. The spare tire holder is rusted and ready to come off. I removed the spare a placed it in the bed for now. The bed and its mounts are shot, the bed can be picked up a good two inches off the frame. Basically the truck is nothing but rust from the cab back. I was lucky when the bumper fell off 1/2 hour earlier I was traveling on a state highway at speeds of 60-65 mph. I have looked at other Rangers the same year and found some worse and some with no rust what so ever. Whats up? and is Ford aware of the problem and are they going to do anything about it. Who would have gotten sued if my bumper had fallen and killed someone?. This bumper problem happened on Wednesday, April 25, 2012.

The vehicle involved is a 1999 Ford Ranger. The vehicle identification number (VIN) is 1FTYR14X2X_. It was revealed to me that my bumper appeared to be falling off. A closer inspection showed that the rear portion of the frame has rotted. The bumper mount has deteriorated and no longer supports the bumper. The shock mounts appear to be hazardous as well. The vehicle has been garage kept and has never been involved in a rear end collision. As I have researched this problem online, it seems to be a major problem with this years model of the Ford Ranger. It was 03/09/2012 when this bumper issue happened.

The car was a 1999 GMC Suburban. Crash was involved with the GMC Suburban. Vehicle identification number (VIN): 3GKFK16R9X_. The vehicle was parked on a slight grade in the driveway. When it was shifted from park to drive, it drifted backwards approximately 2' (1mph - maybe) where it contacted a sapling tree with the right end of the bumper. At first glance, no damage was detectable. On closer examination, it was discovered that the end of the bumper had bent inwards towards the vehicle and just narrowly missed contacting the rear quarter panel. Further inspection uncovered that the top of the bumper had buckled under the step cover near the center of the bumper. When the dealer was contacted, they recited the gm policy statement that the bumper only withstands impacts that are squarely applied at the very center of the bumper. Customer service at GMC waited until contacting the dealer to recite the same finding. Most people purchase this truck for the size and safety of a larger vehicle, and certainly one would expect that an SUV would be sturdily built. I want the manufacturer to replace this bumper under the vehicle warranty. This is undoubtedly a safety hazard as a 5mph impact would have had a devastating affect on the vehicle and its occupants.

The vehicle involved is a 2001 Honda Passport. Problems that continue to exist are as follows:
1- miles per gallon are far below what was indicated. In such a spiraling cost per gallon environment, usage of gas it 30% to 50% greater than the manufacturer says. I believe this is deceptive
2- the "engine warning light" has gone on several times. This last time the Honda dealer says it is a special "backordered" item that may fix both the mpg issue as well as the "warning" issue. The question that could not be answered was, it is harmful to the car or a danger to me driving the car. 3- during a recent ice storm my car bumped a telephone pole and it shattered the bumper. The speed could not have exceeded 2 to 3 mph. The entire bumber has to be replaced due to the extensiveness of the damage. . . . Cost ~$1000. 00. 4- upon evaluating the above issue the repair specialist (an independent car repair person) asked if I knew that my vehicle was not a Honda but an isuzu. I was not made aware of this during my purchase!!! an issue I consider to be deceptive as this will constiture my fourth or fifth "Honda". I was led to believe I was, again, purchasing a "Honda". Not happy about that. What can you do to help me with the above issues. My warning light has been on for almost 3 weeks now since I took it to the dealer. Is this too long and what is happening to the engine of my car?
thanks for your assistance!

Purchased a new 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe 11/2001 with 11 miles on it. In 3/2007, the radiator needed to be replaced. In replacing it, 2 major safety defects were discovered - no safety/protective foam in the front bumper and the safety/crash bar was bent - I was told that the car must had been in a major accident. I took the car back to the original dealer and they accepted no responsibility - they said I must have done it. I have had no accidents or tickets and my driving record proves that. I purchased a vehicle history report, which showed no accident history. The only conclusion is that the defects were present at the time of sale. The car slipped through the cracks of the safety inspections. It was Mar. 10, 2007 when this bumper issue happened.

The car involved was a 2000 Mercedes Benz Clk430. The VIN of this vehicle was WDBLK70G8Y_. The front plastic bumper has been designed to be too low to the ground and parking lot wheel bumpers are higher. When parking the 2000 clk model 430, this mismatch causes the plastic bumper to drag along the concrete bumper stop, and because of very weak design of the bumper, it will crack the bumper at its weakest points, causing the bumper to hang loose and become a potential safety hazard. The bumper should be recalled to be replaced with one that is higher from the ground. This bumper problem happened on Dec. 14, 2007.

The vehicle having this issue was a 1999 Subaru Outback. Crash happened when the problem occurred. I was quite hurt (to the degree of having to go on ssd) in a rear end collision in a 1998 Subaru legacy wagon. In trying to recover the original head rest of this car I learned it is no longer available and can only be replaced with a much safer model. In doing a recent crash analysis with this new head rest I realized the significant differences and how much safer the new head rest is. I learned on your car safety web site of the national caution on the whole seat of this model seats and head rest. I have had numerous orthopedic (left arm, all/whole back, right leg, both knees, posture) and brain injury problems from my car accident. I recently learned (3/06), that Subaru started unofficially replacing the seat and head rest of this model legacy 1998 thru 1999 whenever possible. Meaning whenever these models requested new parts, there is an unofficial recall in that it is impossible to get the original part only the safer new parts. I keep thinking about how easy a recall for approximately a 2 and a half years model car is (I have experienced a gm recall of a part that went very smoothly). There is a great cost to society and myself of there not being an official recall. Please respond to this email with a letter or I will send another letter by signed receipt email. Sincerely,
marcie ellis. This issue happened on Monday, August 20, 2001.

The vehicle having this issue was a 2000 Toyota Toyota truck. The vehicle identification number (VIN) is JT3HN86R1Y_. The rear center bumper of my 2000 Toyota forruner sr5 4 wheel drive is rusting. I noticed on many other 2000 forruners that there is also a rust problem , again only on the center bumper. Because of the amount of vehicles I observed rusting in the same location it appears to be a product defect and failure. I wrote to Toyota and called them, they said to bring it to my local dealer to look at the problem. They told me it was out of warrenty, but maybe they would chip in half for the repair. They completely wasted my time, as after I wasted a half day bringing it over, they acknowleged the rust wasnt from damage, but they would do nothing as it was out of warrenty. I told them then why was I told to bring it over to look at and waste my time. They did not give me a valid answer. I have seen at least 5 other vehicles like mine. The vehicle involved was a 2003 Volkswagen Passat. The vehicle identification number (VIN) of the car was WVWWH63B93_. I recently leased a vw Passatt station wagon and things have gone wrong with it even before the car had 300 miles on it. The car has less than 5000 miles on it and it has spent some 10 days at the repair shop. Defects have included a transmission that would disengage, heated seats that would not turn off, a/c and side mirrors that would not work, a module had to be replaced, the car had to be aligned, the front spoiler fell off, a speaker had to be replaced, part of the trim on the back was falling off, the memory settings on the driver's seat were not working, and the sun roof was rattling. The sales department has responded to all my calls by saying that I need to talk to the service department or to vw corporate directly. I have done both, when I called vw corporate they responded that as long as the car was driveable they would cover it under warranty and would not replace the car. I was driving my 2004 Volvo S60 on the NJ turnpike. Winds reported that day to be up to 50 mph and I am driving at around 50 to 60 mph when I heard a loud sound from the rear of my car. I started to slow down to enter onto the breakdown lane on the turnpike dragging the bumper as I pulled over. When I got out to inspect I found that my bumper cover have blew off of the car and was hanging on due to a wire that was connected to it on the right side. I called my Volvo dealer and was offered an appt to bring it in. The service manager along with his regional rep is disputing that this could have happened. They are saying that they have never heard of this before and that it could not have happened because it has never happened and will not take responsibility for the replacement unless it is paid for by me. Neither the dealer or the rep is concerned about the safety of this incident and why this actually happened. It is by the grace of god that this bumper cover did not completely dislodge causing fatalities to occur had the wind blew it in the path of other cars on the roads. Not only am I not getting good service Volvo is not concerned about safety which is the core of their commitment to the consumers. My character and my integrity and credibility is being challenged by the service manager and his regional rep rather the reason for the bumper coming off in this way. My confident in the safety of the car and Volvo customer service has been destroyed. Vovlo is saying that this is the first time they have heard of a bumper blowing off. There is always a first and being the first does not indicated that it's impossible to have happened. This issue happened on Oct. 29, 2006.
