car   Underbody Shield problem of Chevrolet Suburban

The vehicle involved was a 2003 Chevrolet Suburban 1500. Brake pedal almost to floor, extremely long time to stop. No warning just driving in columbus traffic and lost brakes. Found master cylinder almost empty. Brake lines rusted through left side drivers floor/frame rail area. Dealer estimate $1200 to$1600. Seems to be a common problem as on line investigation verifies. Web site shows open case,no re-call to repair. The failure date was 11/26/12.

car   Underbody Shield problem of Chevrolet Tahoe

The car involved was a 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe. This is a fleet vehicle with multiple drivers. It has been garaged since purchased new, and frequently washed. It is infrequently used in poor weather, when roads are salted or brined, and undercarriage is rinsed after use in such conditions, intending to avoid premature undercarriage rust. In this event, the brake pedal gradually lost pressure while holding at a stop and vehicle began to roll imperceptibly. Driver initially thought seat was misadjusted from previous driver and that his applied pedal pressure was relaxing, therefore he adjusted the seat and continued driving. This was during a snowstorm, so driving was cautious anyway. The prior driver had noticed the same gradual pressure loss retroactively when asked. With 2 more hours driving (mostly highway with little need for braking), the problem worsened to the point that braking was completely unreliable and instrument cluster warnings were triggered. The problem is ruptured brake lines, due to premature rusting. It was Jan. 21, 2014 when this underbody shield issue occurred.

car   Underbody Shield problem of Chrysler Pacifica

The car involved was a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica. The vehicle identification number (VIN) of this Chrysler Pacifica is 2C8GF68464_. A few years ago we were advised by my mechanic that the sub frame was corroding/rusting and they advised that should not happen. At that time, I contacted Chrysler. They recalled some of the 04-05 vehicles that were manufactured during a 6 week window only; my vehicle was manufactured outside of the 6 week window. Today we were advised that the car is completely unsafe to drive and I have pictures, the frame is almost completely rusted out. Nbc chicago recently investigated the issue (the investigation can be found on google). Two individuals with the same issue as me wanted Chrysler to admit the unsafe problem and that they had knowledge of it prior to purchasing the vehicles. Before nbc investigated, Chrysler refused to fix the cars. After the program ran, Chrysler paid two the two individuals featured on the show to have their sub frames replaced. The other 300+ people that have requested Chrysler fix the problem remain without recourse. While 300+ are aware of the problem, there are many thousands of people that are unaware of the dangerous problem. I am herein requesting help in getting Chrysler to recall the vehicle to address the dangerous safety problem. Thank you for your help. This underbody shield issue occurred April 26, 2014.

car   Underbody Shield problem of Chrysler Pacifica

The vehicle involved was a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica. The vehicle identification number (VIN) is 2C8GM68405_. We were informed when vehicle was in for repair that there were holes in the front subframe. The subframe had rusted out and the holes will not allow the car to pass inspection. We were informed that the subframe would need to be replaced. Contacted Chrysler hotline and they said that there were issues and notices sent to cars in the salt-belt, we did not receive one even though upstate NY. They have been in contact with the local dealership as of two and half weeks ago and we still have no response on whether it is covered under potential recall. Safety is definitely an issue, not sure why this issue has not been enough of a cause of concern to issue nationwide recall. Subframe should not rot out and have to be replaced, clearly defect in design and materials. Search web we are not the only ones, hundreds if not thousands of similar complaints. This problem occurred on 09/21/2013.

As I started to pull forward the steering was very difficult and the I heard a whining sound from the right front tire. car   Underbody Shield problem of Ford Escape

While driving her 2002 Ford Escape to work my daughter noticed the steering was not right. In order for her to keep driving straight she had to turn the steering wheel. She went over a pair of rough railroad tracks & lost control of the vehicle. Her front passenger tire control bar had completely separated from the frame. It was rusted through. Luckily she was driving in a 30mph zone & there were no other cars around. Thankfully she was not hurt but quite shaken up. We were unaware of a vehicle recall on this model until a friend of hers recalled seeing an article in the news about control bars rusting through causing steering problems. Her front tire was completely bald after this incident. (tread was good before). I called Ford as soon as I was able & reported the incident. The rep told me that in order for a repair the vehicle had to be towed to a Ford dealer & to keep the tow bill as they would cover it. Right now the SUV is at the dealer. It has been 2 days since they've had it & I've heard nothing. I am getting very impatient. Because it's a recall I have a hunch they put it on the back burner. This vehicle is her only way to school & work. I asked about a loaner & they explained that because of the huge volume of recalls, a loaner would be difficult to come by. What has happened to customer service? I am expecting not only the vehicle to be fixed but I feel we should be compensated for the 1 tire - maybe 2 depending on the condition of the other side. I don't need a set of new ones - just something to pass inspection. If anyone has experienced the same issues please post something back. Thank you ! [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6). This issue happened on Thursday, Apr. 24, 2014.

car   Underbody Shield problem of Honda Accord

The car involved was a 2002 Honda Accord. The vehicle identification number (VIN) of this Honda Accord is 1HGCG16542_. While taking off my tires to inspect the tierods and brakes I noticed a significant amount of rust on the passenger side front end vehicle subframe directly below the air conditioner drain line. It is rusted through currently only on the top side but it is a matter of time until this progresses to the underside as well. This leaves only the lower portion to hold the suspension and engine in place. I did some research and found many others have had this problem seeming caused by the drain line being positioned directly above this piece of the subframe. I purchased this vehicle a year ago from a local Honda dealership that in hind sight definitely seemed like they were trying to get rid of a lemon. There were a number of other issues with the car (electrical, etc) and now I find this. This car was serviced at this dealership its entire life (since new) and the dealership absolutely should have noticed this subframe rotting as they performed routine oil changes, tire changes, tire rotations, etc. I believe that Honda should be responsible for this since 1) the vehicle was purchased and maintained at the Honda dealership and 2) it seems to be a significant design flaw to have the drain immediately above this area. . . The drivers side does not show any rust at all and appears structurally sound. It was January 15, 2014 when this underbody shield issue happened.

car   Underbody Shield problem of Honda Passport

The vehicle involved was a 2001 Honda Passport. The VIN of the car is 4S6DM58W91_. A few years back my trailing linkage on both sides of vehicle rusted away from frame. The drivers side was first and I was traveling at 50 mph. Hit pot hole and drivers side linkage broke off. Causing me to fish tail in traffic and almost crash. Now I have two cracks in my frame and the rear cross member is rusted through. I have also had the fuel tank support fixed and welded back onto my truck. This will cost me thousands to fix to hopefully make it a drivable vehicle again. Or. American Honda can buyout these vehicles from these owners. The failure date was May. 17, 2011.

car   Underbody Shield problem of Hyundai Elantra

The vehicle involved is a 2003 Hyundai Elantra. Thankfully no incident, my mechanic pointed out to me during normal maintenance on the car, the lower control arm had severe corrosion damage that its almost split he advised not to take it on the highway until it was fixed. He printed out the recall notice of the problems with the front lower control arm. Hyundai is giving me push back on taking care of it because im not in the salt belt. I am not in a salt free state they salt hear at the threat of flurries. That kind of damage is not normal wear and tear on a car that's under 60k miles. I don't want the world I just want them to fix the defective product, more important than that had my mechanic not pointed it out I could have put myself or others in danger if this snapped and I lost control of the passenger side wheel. I cant be the only one outside of the salt belt that is having this issue and may be in danger if it separates. Thank you for taking the time to listen. This underbody shield issue occurred Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014.

car   Underbody Shield problem of Infiniti I30

The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) was JNKCA21A7X_. I took my well-maintained, garaged 1999 Infiniti I30 to the mechanic after noticing the handling getting sloppy and severe inner tire wear. Upon inspection, he informed me that the front core support (the box beam frame member that extends the width of the car and supports the radiator) was rusted through. The corrosion is severe to the point that the sides of the beam are eaten away over 1/3 to 1/2 the length. In places, all that is left supporting the radiator is the top plate. The center support bar that holds the front end of the motor in place is supposed to be bolted to the bottom of the beam, but because of the corrosion, it is now hanging cantilevered. The car is not safe to drive with the motor inadequately supported. Relative to the rest of the car, the severe corrosion is localized to a 2-3 foot section of the frame (as if there is something causing the corrosion to accelerate in this particular area). Properly manufactured structural steel should not disintegrate like this. It was 09/30/13 when this underbody shield issue happened.

car   Underbody Shield problem of Infiniti I30

The car is a 2001 Infiniti I30. VIN of the vehicle was JNKCA31A31_. When I took my car in for service my mechanic noticed excessive rusting on the frame below the radiator. It is the only place on the entire car underbody with rust. The metal bar is almost completely rotted through, and my mechanic said the car is unsafe to drive - if I hit a pothole or a bump the bar will crack and the engine/radiator will lose support. My car only has 114,000 miles. It's 12 years old. Only one spot on the car has the excessive rust that is eaten through. This sounds like Nissan did not rustproof one section properly, and should be investigated. The failure date was Sep. 10, 2012.

car   Underbody Shield problem of Jeep Wrangler

The car involved was a 2000 Jeep Wrangler. Affected parts: frame and suspension last weekend I was driving 2000 Jeep tj thought I had a shock mount break. The Jeep wobbled and I lost control of keeping the Jeep straight in my lane almost hitting a car in the other lane. I checked under the Jeep and noticed the rear passenger lower trail arm broke totally away from the frame due to rust. Looking on forums and the web read about safetcap autorust frame sections. So thinking this might be an option to repair it asked a friend that used to work at a body shop take a look. He took a look and was shocked how bad the Jeep was rusted for being a 2000. Didn't notice until we looked again but the skid plate is also falling away from the frame. He is not sure he would have any good metal to weld to and also said it will be like dominos there will be more failed rusted parts under the Jeep like brake lines etc. Friend said safety is a huge concern even if you were able to patch it because so much of the frame and components are rusted so bad. I don't have the resources, knowledge or extra money to throw couple grand at it and replace the frame. Since this is a safety issue has anyone had any luck communicating this to Jeep Chrysler dealers or heard anyone that has? couple options I see now are to part it out or try to sell it as it stands. Any suggestions? I never went on any rough trails because it was a primary vehicle. For a 2000 Jeep Wrangler sport tj this is a huge safety issue. Does Jeep not treat the frames with rust protection? is the frame just poorly designed? will never purchase another Jeep vehicle. This underbody shield problem happened on Jan. 4, 2014.

car   Underbody Shield problem of Jeep Liberty

The vehicle involved was a 2008 Jeep Liberty. Bought the Jeep new from Jeep dealer and it came with a factory installed 'skyslider'. We hardly ever use the skyslider and after a severe thunderstorm, we noticed when driving the Jeep, there was a popping noise. The skyslider had bunched up and was not closing. Took the Jeep to our mechanic who advised that there was a 1" piece on the track that was broken and the part would cost approx. $1900. !!!. I called Chrysler because the Jeep is only 4 years old and this is a clear defect. Chrysler advise me to take the Jeep to a Jeep dealership for diagnosis. . . A broken piece on the frame which needed to have the whole frame replaced at a cost of - $4k. Four thousand dollars. The skyslider is defective on all 2008 Jeep Liberty models and this could cause a fatality. The skyslider is made of canvas and can pop off the track and fly off. I cross a bride daily and cannot drive more than 20mph or the roof starts to lift up. It was Sep. 29, 2011 when this underbody shield issue happened.

I well not be able to drive it! there is no recall. . . This will cost me $2,000. 00. I believe if you live. . . Where it snows. The vehicles should be made for states which have snow. . . . . And use salt on the roads. Why should I have to paid for this. The sub frame needs to be recall by kia manufacturer. The mileage on my van is 63,553. Also, kia stated that it will not pass inspection. There was a recall on lower control arms. They fixed that, but still it shakes. It's the sub frame. Guest what! they inspected my van on Jan 8, 2014,. Kia, passed my van for good condition and my van was inspected after they corrected the control arms. Again, it still shakes. . . . It is the sub frame. How did kia pass the van for inspection. "the sub frame is still rotten". So, are they waiting for a accident to happen or someone is killed. Kia you need a recall on sub frame!. car   Underbody Shield problem of Lexus Rx400h

The car involved is a 2006 Lexus Rx400h. While driving my 2006 Rx400h, I slammed on the brakes and my heel went through two carpets and the floor board. My heel was stuck in a hole in the floor board. I can now place my finger into a hole and feel wires and empty space under the gas and break path. Lexus has agreed to fix the problem for a fee. car   Underbody Shield problem of Mercedes Benz E Class

The vehicle is a 2000 Mercedes Benz E Class. The vehicle's vehicle identification number (VIN) was WDBJF65J5Y_. My 2000 e320 has excessive rust issues through out the entire body. I was told by Mercedes Benz of north America this is a common issue because of the use of a new water based paint used between 1997-2002 but because I am out of warranty and the car is over 10 years old they can not help me or offer me any further assistance with the issue. I have located online forums with consumers who own the same car as myself and have the same exact issues in the same places and received the same information from mbusa. The worst areas are in every wheel well causing the wheel wheels to buckle and chip into the suspension and break area and it has cause the frame of the car to severely weaken, in addition my rear trunk key hole area is rusting through and I was advised it will rust through and at that point the locking mechanism will come off and I will at that point need to replace the trunk lid possibly causing the trunk to involuntary open while operating the vehicle. car   Underbody Shield problem of Mitsubishi Eclipse

April 2010 while driving my vehicle a 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse rs hatchback at approximately 20 miles per hour, the 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse rs hatchback suddenly loss control and crashed onto the roadway. I heard a loud noise and the car instantly loss use of control in steering and the car proceeded to leave the road onto a grassy median to my left side. I discovered the front control arm was lying on the roadway detached from the axel and tire. The front driver's side wheel was wedged at an angle between the frame and the disassembled parts of the car. I had the 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse towed home and replaced the faulty parts with another front control arm & lower ball joint purchased from auto zone. In 2011, the same vehicle a 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse rs hatchback loses control while in motion at approximately 15 miles per hour, as I was turning left onto a two lane street. The car lost steering control skidding off the roadway in the direction on-coming traffic. The front control arm was lying on the ground detached from the front driver?s side wheel. The front driver's side wheel was wedged between the frame of the vehicle and the road. I contacted a towing service to tow the car in for repairs. I bought and replaced the faulty control arm & lower ball joints. July 2012, I was traveling at approximately 35 miles per hour, in the left lane of a four lane main thoroughfare, when the 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse rs hatchback loss steering control and crashed to the ground while in motion, causing the car to leave the roadway towards the left. I got out of the vehicle to assess the damage and discovered the front control arm detached from the front driver's side wheel. The control arm was lying on the ground and the front driver's side wheel had been damaged from the impact and skidding along the roadway. I contacted a towing service to remove the vehicle. This problem occurred on Monday, April 26, 2010.

car   Underbody Shield problem of Nissan Quest

The vehicle is a 2004 Nissan Quest. The vehicle identification number (VIN) of the car was 5N1BV28U14_. No incident yet. I was informed by Nissan service that the front engine and suspension support frame has a hole rusted through and needs replacement. Apparently this is a known design issue. There is no reason a hole should form in a frame support member if safely designed. It is difficult for an average vehicle owner or non-Nissan garage to notice this problem so many vehicles may have it. The most obvious time the frame would break would be during a high speed bump. It would be hazardous if the frame broke during travel resulting in possible loss of control of vehicle. The failure date was January 8, 2014.

car   Underbody Shield problem of Nissan Versa

While driving home from work my 2010 Nissan Versa began to make a rumbling sound. It has sense grown to a roar while stopped with the car in drive. I took it to the dealer where I got it and they said the rear muffler assembly had broken loose and was rubbing on the frame causing the noise and vibrations in the driver compartment. Upon a brief internet search I have found that many other Nissan owners have experienced the same problem. Nissan claims it is due to road salt, but the only part that is rusting out is the flange leading to the rear muffler assembly. This issue happened on November 1, 2013.

car   Underbody Shield problem of Saturn VUE

The vehicle was a 2003 Saturn Vue. As I was driving my and it car began to pull to the right and the tires began to squeal. In my mind I thought I thought I needed better tires and a wheel alignment. As I was driving to get the tires and alignment I heard a cracking from underneath the car, this really scared me. At this point the pull to the right was even stronger. I arrive to a tire shop and put tires on thinking this would be better but it was the same so I drove across the street to a mechanic to get a wheel alignment and the mechanic came out and went underneath the car when he came back up he stated that "your subframe and chasis is cracked all the way through, park it immediately for safety reasons, in his 20 years of experience as a mechanic he only saw his twice the first time was in another car that was recalled and mine that should be on recall with the level of danger, especially because I see you have a baby's car seat in your backseat". He also said even an older car should not have a subframe crack like this, and that the motor can fall out while I'm driving and the wheels will collapse. What am I supposed to do I can't even trade it in and it's worth $5500 and the cost would be fananimal to fix. I can't get to work and even child car this is horrible. Please help. This is a defective car and the worst I have ever had. It was Friday, Sep. 14, 2012 when this underbody shield issue happened.

car   Underbody Shield problem of Subaru Impreza

The vehicle having this issue was a 2002 Subaru Impreza. Vehicle identification number (VIN) of the vehicle is JF1GG68582_. When I took out the underneath plastic cover below the engine for cleaning purposes, I saw severe rust on the" sub-frame" where both lower arms are attach to it. I went to the Subaru dealer for inspection on Nov. 9, 2013. They told me that, it is not in the recall list, so I will need to pay for the costly repairs . When I ask one of the associates if it safe to drive,he said no, it is not safe to drive and also if collision occurs. They scheduled my car for free estimates on Nov. 11,2013. No accident this time. I just want to drive my car safe. Please help me,thanks. It was Saturday, November 9, 2013 when this underbody shield issue happened.

car   Underbody Shield problem of Subaru Impreza

The vehicle involved is a 2007 Subaru Impreza. I was at the dealership having a recall done for my front suspension a frames. (wvx34) and was told that the vehicle needed more extensive repairs as parts were corroded and could not be changed without being damaged. I was told Subaru had refused to agree the repairs until their dpsm had seen the vehicle, he would be at the dealer in the next 4 weeks. I contacted the dealer on the 5th December to be told the rep would be in until the 18th December (I am out of the country then). I contacted Subaru as I was disappointed with the service and the contacted the dealer and called me back on the 6th. I was told that the vehicle was dangerous and that the repairs were $5,000 worth and that I would have to pay as they had corrosion and that this wasn't part of the recall and the dpsm date was still the 18th. I would assume that if the a frames wee damaged due to corrosion and that the same corrosion had damaged other parts of the suspension then this would not be my liability. I am driving a dangerous vehicle (says the dealer to Subaru but not me) and Subaru not only don't care enough to inspect the vehicle as a matter of urgency but do not want to repair the vehicle. So the complaint is that the recall (wvx34) is just for a frames and the actual corrosion damage is much more extensive. The failure date was November 6, 2012.

car   Underbody Shield problem of Suzuki Esteem

The vehicle having this issue was a 1997 Suzuki Esteem. Driving along big timber straight at 40 mph then all of a sudden car started pulling to the right and started to shake, I managed to stay straight until I turned left to meadows rd. I made it home okay in the complex but was unable to use the car again. Next day looked at the under carriage and then noticed the rusted out sub frame (cradle) by the right (passenger) control arm. This car is garage kept if that means anything. Well this certainly is a bummer, I'll have to figure on how to fix this problem at a reasonable expense. It was Friday, Jan. 11, 2013 when this underbody shield issue occurred.

car   Underbody Shield problem of Suzuki Esteem

The vehicle identification number (VIN) is JS2GB 41S7_. 2000 Suzuki Esteem sedan. The subframe and front passenger side axel rusted through and collapsed while turning corner. Loud grinding of tires. This caused the front passenger side wheel to be pushed back into the wheel well. Repaired cost of $1200. Fortunately no one was hurt as the vehicle was slowing down, but if these parts had failed at highway speeds, it is quite likely a fatal accident would have occurred. I have searched on line and found that other Suzuki owners have reported this same problem. I wrote to corporate relations at Suzuki in brea California, they contacted me and left a message that they were not going to reimburse me for the cost of repair and that the warranty for this known problem was no longer in effect as of Dec 21, 2011. However, the warranty they sent to owners said this repair would be for 12 years from the date the car was originally put in service or 180,000. My car met the conditions but they refuse to honor the coverage extension warranty. I hope this vehicle is recalled or at least owners should be notified of this defect before a fatal accident occurs. The failure date was Apr. 19, 2012.

2001 Toyota Tundra. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle frame rust recall. The consumer stated the vehicle was known for having defective steel used for the frames that was prone to premature rust. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealer and they kept the vehicle for a week, during which they had a secondary contractor apply a rust proofing material to the frame. When the vehicle was returned to the consumer, he was informed he would never have to worry about the frame rusting again. Recently, he had the tire replaced and while on the hoist, he realized there was rust appearing in spots everywhere on the frame, including where the metal straps were holding the gas tank to the frame. He immediately took the vehicle back to the dealer, where they inspected it and took many photos. The service manager informed the consumer the truck frame definitely needed to re-done, but it wasn't his decision. A Toyota representative informed consumer, they were no longer participating in the recall, as it had ended. car   Underbody Shield problem of Volkswagen Passat

The vehicle was a 2005 Volkswagen Passat. Vehicle identification number (VIN) of the vehicle is WVWAD63BX5_. In 2007 I heard a noise from under my vehicle. It felt like something was loose and at times dragging the ground. I was advised by a CO-worker that it was probably the under cover and to get it taken care of as soon as possible. On October 27th 2007 I took my car to darcars Volkswagen. I was advised the undershield was damaged and I authorized the dealer to replace it. I contacted volkwagen of America by phone in November 2008 for reimbursement of repair costs for a defective underbody heat shields that I paid in October 2007 prior to the safety recall #26e5/r5 issued in June 2008. I was told the same day that my repairs were not related to the recall campaign. Recently, after I obtained lost receipts from Volkswagen and examined them against all recalls--in hindsight something didn't seem right to me. I just couldn't fathom that the repair and the recall were not the same issue. I called Volkswagen again about this recall and was told 1) there had been an extensive investigation on my initial claim 2) they had spoken with the mechanic that serviced my vehicle 3) that because I requested the heat shield to be replaced that I was responsible for the cost. I dispute that there was any investigation on my claim; that anyone spoke with the mechanic who serviced my vehicle; and most importantly that since I authorized replacement that I am liable for the associated cost of the damaged heat shield. It is my position that Volkswagen is avoiding responsibility for reimbursement through deception and that they attempted to take advantage of my lack of knowledge of automotive specifics. I bid your intervention in this matter. This issue happened on 11/06/2008.

car   Underbody Shield problem of BMW 323

The car is a 1999 BMW 323i. After 6 months of squeaking & rattling sounds coming from the rear of my vehicle, I was driving on CA route 10 when I noticed the sounds were becoming more prevalent, as the car's handling began to feel loose. I reduced speed for the remainder of the trip, fearing loss of control of the vehicle, and upon arriving home had my vehicle inspected by beverly hills BMW, where they told me that my vehicle's subframe was damaged to the extent that the car was "not road worthy" ([xxx]) and I was advised to have the vehicle towed out of the shop. I contacted BMW customer service agent [xxx], who informed me that BMW had a program (that I believe is part of a settlement agreement of a class action lawsuit), in which they recognized there was a problem with some of the early e46 BMW models' sub-frames and offered to have them inspected & in some cases would pay for the cost of the repair. BMW chose to deny me repair, citing that they had mailed me a letter about the program previously (that I had never received) & that the program had now ended. After having my vehicle repaired by an independent party, I contacted[xxx]to see if BMW would reimburse me for some of my costs of repair and car rental, seeing as how they were a fraction of the quote from BMW. She told me to forward my invoices ($2207. 70 in total) to her email, which I did. Despite 3 follow-up emails, 3 voice mails, and one certified letter, I have received no further communication from BMW. The mechanical / structural integrity of a vehicle's frame, or sub-frame, should never be compromised by regular use. Having a defective sub-frame in a car manufactured in the last 80 years is wholly unacceptable and constitutes a need for investigation concerning a potential recall, rather than some manufacturer-controlled program with time limits that affect the safety of its customers. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6). This issue happened on Friday, April 6, 2012.

car   Underbody Shield problem of BMW M3

I currently own a 2003 BMW M3 coupe, manual transmission. The car has never been raced or taken to the track and has seen mostly city driving. All suspension components are stock or oem replacement parts. Upon inspection of the car, a trained technician found hairline fractures starting from the spot welds on the rear suspension subframe mounting points rendering the vehicle stationary until expensive reinforcing plates can be welded into the trunk. If a car company makes street-legal race cars and markets them to the public in that way it seems like a design flaw such as this would be repaired by the company. Again, this car was never raced or tracked and is experiencing the start of a catastrophic structural failure because it was driven on normal roads. This underbody shield problem happened on March 24, 2012.

car   Underbody Shield problem of Cadillac CTS

The vehicle involved is a 2011 Cadillac Cts. My husband was driving in our community, about 15 mph. He made a right hand turn and the control arm snapped in half, the wheel broke off and the frame came crashing to the ground. We have owned the car for less than 3 weeks. Aaa towed the car to the nearest dealership. The dealership refuses to fix the car under the manufacturer's warranty claiming that the car had to have been in an accident. We have neighbors who heard the thud and came to see what happened. There was no accident/collision. We have driven the car a couple hundred miles. This shouldn't have happened. Cadillac told us we needed to file a claim with our insurance company. The dealership estimates $12,000 in damage. The failure date was November 18, 2013.
